Social media has become an essential part of our lives, with many people interacting and judging our every move. Recent studies have explored patterns of social media use, its impact on mental health, and the potential to leverage its popularity and interactive features. Excessive social media use can lead to negative effects, including poor physical and mental health, cyberbullying, and sleep disturbances. However, researchers have looked at general anxiety provoked by social media, which can lead to difficulties in contact with family or peers, a decline in academic performance, and even road accidents. Some young people try to gain more anonymity, less emphasis on the physical aspect, better control over time and the rhythm of interactions, and easier access to similar-minded individuals.

The glorification of the gang lifestyle and violence has been around since the 19th century in the USA. Billy the Kid and Jesse James stories were sold as penny novels…fast forward to the 1970s and 1980s we have further glorification via movies like Scarface and Goodfellas. Mythologizing street life, violence, and gang culture has been the norm in the USA for over a century and this new social media wrinkle just adds fuel to that ever burning fire to be a street legend.
Junior wasn’t targeted because he was confused for someone in a social media article. A girl falsely accused him for doing something to her and her brother and his gang/friends attacked Junior. There’s so many articles out about his story, please do your research and honor/respect his lost life. Thank you <3
From 3x former female gang members – When April Roby-Bell joined the Gangster Disciples in middle school, the street gang treated her like family when she felt abandoned by her own. She was looking for love, acceptance, and stability. “They trained us as little kids. How to own your ’hood, own your street: ‘This is my territory,’” From: Survivors of Gangs and Gun Violence, These Women Now Help Others Navigate Grief*
The glorification of gangs in American culture is as old as the country itself. Criminals from Billy the Kid, John Dilinger, to Al Capone have been mythologized in our traditional media outlets, and I believe that the proliferation of contemporary gang culture via social media and drill music is just an evolution of that. If you want to see a decrease in gangs and gang violence you need to address the systemic issues that cause gangs to be formed in the first place.
Isn’t this exactly why people said social media and unrestricted media access for kids was so horrible for them like 20 years ago, and everyone laughed at them for being “Backwards” and “anti-progress,” but now everything they said is coming true? Didn’t like tons of scientific studies say that this exact scenario could not happen?
Yeah nah bro, I’ve been around from before social media and this was a thing before that. They blamed hip hop and they blamed black people, but never Hollywood, or authors before that. Gangs made themselves glamorous, just look at gangsters in Al Capone times. And also remember, Robin Hood was a gangster too.
These gangs are a great money maker for everyone involved in the justice system. These kids are being used to make a profit and they can’t even see it. The people who make a profit from the courts and the lawyers and the prisons don’t live in the same neighbourhoods as these gangs, so their crimes don’t touch them. So these gangs are harmless to them.
I like how they talked about companionship and fraternity. A lot of these young people are lost and are put in very horrible situations where poverty and violence is rampant. A lot of broken people find comraderie here. Sadly, this is due to the fact that young people struggle to get out of poverty and it is disproportionately targeting black abd hispanic people. The only way foward is to help these people build positive communities and make sure temptation does not let them fall for these gangs. For those that say, be chill and keep the peace and how drill music is violent therefore should be stopped do not look at the root of the problem that many of these people desire companionship and fraternity. I think the sentiment of being in a street gangs and being in a frat are the same, considering the fact that they are both built over creating close knit relationships. However, frats don’t get condemned despite their rampant sexual violence cases while street gans do because of their violence and its members being in a lower socioeconomic status.
This kind of lifestyle is shocking to see, without the help of their parents, police, and the whole community in fact, nothing will change! Going 2 feed under or in jail for life is nothing to be proud of!i was in an violent entourage myself as a teenage, but I quickly realised that it was not a good path where I was heading!
Civilian Conservation Corps went away when amerikkka was forced toward integration and non-white migration increase. Its yet to be brought back and yet its a clear solution to the problem via establishing unity in manhood, giving valuable work and skills to budding young men who lack wealth networks that upperclass white guys have access to. Also CCC improves the environment & connects the fellas with nature (which they control).
Really interesting ideas. Social media probably pays a larger part than I had credited it in the “recruitment”/nurturing kids in to “gangs”/criminals. A lot of words used here, to describe what has been bothering many people. I think musical media plays a large part. Maybe nowadays it can be looked at as a leg of social media. Basically all the music that glamorises violence, seems to be recruiting more artists😄 Ngl if all these songs make me feel devilish I wonder what it does to younger people…
Just re-introduce the death penalty, act like animals, treat them like animals. New York bring back stop and frisk. It’s extreme, Yes! It’s not fair, Yes! It’s inhumane, Yes ! However, innocent people are losing lives and that’s more extreme, unfair and inhumane. The way I see it, cut the tumor before it gets worse.
People in the west baffle me. We boast about being the most powerful and the most educated, yet we allow crimes and problems to persist that some of the “lower” countries would never allow. We are narcissistic with an inferiority complex. It’s sad to see so many people in the comments giving useful solutions while you all shoot them down saying “there’s is nothing we can do” THAT IS FALSE. Humans create and change culture when we want to. But lord forbit it means having restrictions then y’all start spouting off bullshit. This is why our government does what it wants. This is why you don’t feel safe anymore. It’s because you’ve become powerless in a system you were meant to run. America deserves whatever decline is coming its way.
These people are in the land of opportunity. Millions of people around the world would do anything just to come here for work and build their lives lawfully. I know this is true for my family in Morocco. And these guys, Dominican americans, born in america, throwing it all away for a risky and violent deadly life. What if you focused on education and studying. Get real work. Work in a bank, become a cop, firefighter, executive etc anything. Save for a house and a family. This is nonesense. Other immigrants would do anything to be here and you are throwing it away
I see alot of gangster being glorified on those YouTube shorts where they are filmed while flashing their gang signs, guns, money and looking around for their “opps” alot of them are grown adults..like Damm do they not have a sense of embarrassment or shame? It’s cringe AF, especially the adults doing this .. it’s weird how they never mentaly grow up
Sad story but that reporter tried putting the monarchy down on the count of slavery which if you know the monarchy paid to stop it in the first place and enforce it on the rest of the world and juniors death was a count of misidentification they thought he was someone else I remember seeing this death back in 2018 such a sad story rest in peace mate
I understand everything that was said, but when it comes down to it, all I hear is description of the problem, and then the reason. And somehow you’re telling me that it’s harder to fix the problem now with social media given that it helps it spread now in New York. Had the gang problem in the 80s and 90s with no cell phones. No GPS no cameras no social media we overcame that but social media might help the spread, but is a Way better aid, for what’s trying to be accomplished!!! That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I can’t stand how hard it is to get privacy nowadays it is so easy to find everybody and find what they’re doing and everything else and somehow this is now being used as an excuse, that’s fucking ridiculous. It’s absolutely ridiculous, there are way too many ways to be able to pin things on people these days either come up with a better excuse or just admit that you can’t do your job idk that’s it! Bottom fucking line. I’m sorry if people don’t agree with me, but I think the most well and if they don’t I really don’t care either way. It’s still ridiculous.
😂😂😂😂😂 Hey they r you tube influencers! Tik tok over night sensations! Viral! 😂😂😂😂😂 In fact it’s called body count challenge! 😂😂😂😂😂 So long as 99% of Americans are using these platforms, it means a gigantic amount of streams for 1% of Americans to benefit from. You are talking figures in the billions, divided by 1% of, not “people”! 😂😂😂😂😂
The bullshit media might explain, why it’s all good with the community guidelines to be able to upload gang articles, that disses other outfits only a few blocks away, but takes down articles of individuals that don’t promote hatred & violence. Of course, no explanation for this idiot policy. Day in day out the media has porn placed via links to link to youtube teen websites in the most sinister and subliminal way, but this is all okay. I know why I don’t have social media available and the idiot box at home. Book: Propaganda by Edward Bernay. /// The Beasts Of The Apocalypse by Olivia O’Grady.///
Don’t agree with your understanding that gangs are primarily disassociated from a national structure. If ya examine the hierarchical structure- ” Federal prosecutors in Chicago say Gangster Disciples founder Larry Hoover still holds sway over the gang’s hierarchy from a Colorado supermax prison….” (Chicago Tribune, Feb, 2021). Court transcripts document payment of dues from you block to city leadership to state leaders to national lever.’ As for social media aspect (while I agree it plays a pivotal role – see federal indictments incorporating social media as evidence) there’s strong pushback from an industry that claims it’s NOTHING more than Black art – purchased by White kids. The articles – studio recoding time…. all provide. conduit for laundering gang drug sales, extortion, human trafficking proceeds.
Wherever Dominicans live at, quality of neighborhood goes down. early/Mid 70s an great influx of them hit the heights. They moved in n everyone else moved out because they were out of control. Now, they’re being pushed out of the Heights n spreading to the other boroughs. My neighborhood is now overrun with them. The continuous loud music, the hanging in the streets, the revving of cars n the violence is just overwhelming. Even the old school Dominicans complain about it
Coming from a puertorrican, that dominican gang has lost all respect in all ways, after they killed that kid-27, Ñetas, Lating Kings, Bloods- that are inside and on the streets send their everyone to punish anyone who claimed trinitario even in PR they killed alot of dominicans just because of this kid, 2023 they still around but deffinetly not how they were respect is everything on the streets and they lost it all 🤞🏽👍🏽🤟🏽👌🏽
Flippin yt keeps erasing my comments, so I’ll change a bit. Vigils are needed to ex out the ebil out there. Soshaety keeps protecting ebil and allowing it to continue its wretched designs. The only way to change it is to literally ex ebil. Even as ebil moves about, so goes gud. P.s.a.l.m.s 82:6 – gives us the God mind G.e.n.e.s.i.s 9:5 – gives the powah as judge to ebil ones. G.e.n.e.s.i.s 9:6 – grants powah to ex all ebil hoomans.
Wow we’re allowed to talk about crime again? That’s interesting, I also heard NPR say today that the coronavirus vaccines can have severe side effects for some people. I’m glad sanity is slowly returning, even if it’s just being allowed to openly state the obvious without being ostracized. I wish people weren’t so afraid to criticize obviously detrimental things, like rap music that glorifies murder and violence. Social media definitely amplifies gang beefs, but it’s not making them murder people, so what is?
I truly don’t think the issue is that certain youths are seeking belonging or fulfillment or any other far-reaching assumption. I think some just carry an extreme desire for violence and see absolutely no value in the lives of others. And the fools who celebrate and encourage them? Nothing more than background noise. The only thing I question anymore is why it has become so pervasive.
It’s always cool till you are forced to live that life. If you still enjoy it or grew up that life and still enjoy it….you aren’t the majority. Most people are smart enough to know they don’t want to be there. What will the average person do once guns are taken away? You think they are bold now….wait till you got no guns in the neighborhood. Even if you have none, others having some will keep you safe too.
I know I am going to get hate for this, but lets put ourselves in the shoes of the store owner or clerk and a few costumers. What can they have done? The way the laws and the media work in the U.S. is to protects the criminal gangs first. Let say the clerk or customers pullout a gun to stop the gang members from dragging the pool kid, there would be outrage of racism because the clerk pull a gun on minority teenagers. Additionally, it wouldn’t take long before the gang targets the clerk’s family. In another scenario, the clerk tried to prevent the gang members from dragging the kids out of the store, it is most likely he would have been stabbed too. Lastly, if it’s anything like where I live, how many times have that store clerk seen teenagers fight outside of his store?
Pretty cool to see a much older, fatter man with much less life to live just casually go “nah kid you cant hide here from murderers” and then to just walk along behind the kid as they drag him out to kill him. Dude looks so dead in the eyes during this. Another reminder folks, dont have faith in your fellow man, adult or not, we have all grown to serve ourselves. Noone else and nothing more.
Social Media should ONLY be accessible to adults using a credit card with the persons name. Also stop constant media coverage of these stupid school shooters, talk about the murder charges against the parents for their lack of supervision! The parent is responsible for their child’s actions start charging these parents I guarantee things will magically improve.
Dude thats been happening since al capone. Joseph Stalin, Blackbeard, other famous pirates. And other historical figures for thousands of years. People have always had some fascination with people that just have no regard for human life the same way we have fascination with Black holes which also doesnt have regard for human life. Or celebrities (which includes monarchs, etc.). Which until recently didnt have even a conceptual regard for our life.
It’s all will in good Until your driven away from a crime scene with blood all over your clothes and all your friends have the look of a guy who’s trying to get a way out, in seconds trust that took years is gone and so is your freedom, in jail nobody cares about you only your family and shame is all you’ll feel when you see them.
Guys can you please hire a native english speaker or at least someone who can annunciate all english phonemes because I be eating while perusal this and the crunch in my mouth plus this nice asian lady’s ethnic accent cause me to be having to pay closer attention to hear the words and I shouldn’t need to do that
I remember how the store owner came on saying he tried to help crying and all he never helped him wasit cuz he was scared they would hurt him no idont think so but I do pray for him that he feels guilty for not helping he crys also cuz he had to shut down his store. This was so sad for everyone the mom most of course for the young man that lost his life this gang thought they werebeating up a kid that molested someone’s sister she lied said he was the one to save her boyfriend so so so sad
yea… these kids come from homes that dont give them enough attention and love, so they go looking for belonging in their friends, the gang makes them feel like part of a family, they would probably kill for each other. its sad. all these kids needed was a loving family. but such is the tale in the black and hispanic community. i remember going down a dark path when i was a teen as well. luckily, i realized, those friends werent really my friends and quickly got out
My skin care routine- alovera gel, coconut oil, sunscreen, Fuller’s earth+ turmeric + curd / coffee + honey face pack( 2 times a week) nd sometimes scrub ( for Blackheads)….. that’s it 🤣🤣🤣 nd yeah i m a girl . Stay away from chemicals as much as possible. Eat healthy nd do exercise / yoga / mediation daily .
