How To Get Homework To Appear On A Canvas?

This tutorial explores three ways for new teachers to create assignments in Canvas. The first method involves adding the Chrome extension and reloading Canvas to get started. The second method involves creating an assignment using the Gimkit website and then creating it in Canvas.

  1. Click on the Assignments link in the Course Navigation menu.
  2. Click “+Assignment” at the top right.
  3. Write the assignment title and directions for students.
  4. Assign the number of points available for the assignment.
  5. Create a Gimkit Homework Assignment using the Gimkit website.
  6. Open Assignments in Course Navigation and click the “+Assignment” link.
  7. Add an extra credit assignment group with a weight greater than 0 and an assignment with greater than 0 points in order for Canvas.
  8. Find and click on the Calendar icon in the left sidebar.
  9. Add a new assignment by clicking “+”.
  10. Create assignment shells from the Calendar.

The Calendar in Canvas is a global feature, allowing all users, regardless of their course roles, to see all course assignments and events in one place. The Canvas Calendar tool brings together all assignment, quiz, discussion due dates, non-graded events, and appointments booked through Canvas.

  • I can’t tell you how useful your articles have been. My college switched to Canvas this fall and I took 5 short classes in Canvas, but I was still lost. It did not make sense until after I viewed your articles. You’re a great teacher and the effort you have put in these is appreciated!. By the way, I think you meant to say the “kebab” menu (3 vertical dots, versus the hamburger menu (3 horizontal lines). Thank you!

Here are the ones you have access to:” also when I try to change Group Set “Students have already submitted to this discussion, so group settings cannot be changed.” but never created a group and I can not grade this discussion any Ideas, please?

  • I am a TA for a professor. When I grade discussion posts the posts do not show up for the selected student. I have to go in and view the full discussion board and search for the student. How can I or the professor make it so the students posts show up in speed grader without me having to search in the full discussion board?
