Is My Homework Excused For The Day Of Shabbat?

The Sabbath is a holy day of obligation, with six days of work and the seventh day being a solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Companies owe employees who observe the Sabbath, and the Supreme Court has agreed to consider this question. The Sabbath should be a day of delight, celebration, and rejoicing, and it is a day to cease from work and fellowship with the Creator.

The Bible principles of what to do on the Sabbath include honoring the Sabbath by not doing your usual ways, walking differently on the Sabbath, and giving your employer several months of notice when you are absent. Before Jewish holidays with Sabbath-like restrictions, all normal business, school, and secular activities must cease with sufficient time to allow for adequate rest.

Homework is not intrinsically evil, but it is not the best way to keep the Sabbath day holy. Some argue that it is allowed as long as no note-taking is involved, but others suggest it’s like preparing for after Shabbat or being involved with work. Studying on a Sunday is not intrinsically evil, but students should strive to avoid studying if possible.

Doing homework on Sunday is a sin if it gets in the way of going to Mass or other important obligations. Sundays aren’t exempt from the bustle of work; this is where homework sneaks in the gaps. If Saturday is full of games, evening rounds, and other activities, it is not necessarily necessary. One priest recommends that students give what they can and do no schoolwork from Saturday evening until the end of the week.

Is it okay to work on Sabbath Day?

Seventh-day Adventists observe the sabbath from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, with the sun setting at 6 p. m. in places where the sun does not appear or does not set for several months, such as northern Scandinavia. During the sabbath, Adventists avoid secular work and business, except medical relief and humanitarian work. They also avoid activities such as shopping, sport, and certain forms of entertainment.

Adventists typically gather for church services on Saturday morning, some also gather on Friday evening to welcome in the sabbath hours (sometimes called “vespers” or “opening Sabbath”), and some similarly gather at “closing Sabbath”. Traditionally, Seventh-day Adventists hold that the Ten Commandments (including the fourth commandment concerning the sabbath) are part of the moral law of God, not abrogated by the teachings of Jesus Christ, which apply equally to Christians.

They have traditionally distinguished between “moral law” (the Ten Commandments) and “ceremonial law” (the Korban system of sacrifices), arguing that moral law continues to bind Christians, while events predicted by the ceremonial law were fulfilled by Christ’s death on the cross.

The Ten Commandments are a collection of biblical texts that provide guidance on the observance of the sabbath. The Bible provides numerous references to these scriptures, including Exodus 20:1-21, Deuteronomy 5:1-23, Leviticus 25:2-4, Exodus 31:17, Exodus 23:12, Deuteronomy 5:14, Leviticus 23:16, Leviticus 23:24, Leviticus 14; Numbers 19; Leviticus 24:5-9; Commentary on Leviticus 24, The Hebrew Study Bible, Oxford University Press, 2004, pp. 234-238; Leviticus 23:24; Commentary on Leviticus 23, The Jewish Study Bible, Oxford University Press, 2004, pp.

Can you make love on Shabbat?

Shabbat is often recommended for husband and wife to have sex, often due to the obligation to delight in the Sabbath and the time it provides for Torah scholars. This tradition is also believed to imitate cosmic unions between God and the Shekihnah, as imagined by Kabbalists. Any emission of semen during sex makes a man ritually impure, and if it occurs during sex with a woman, she too becomes ritually impure.

However, there is no prohibition on becoming ritually impure, and the consequences of ritual impurity are limited to visiting the Temple in Jerusalem or touching certain sanctified objects. The value of sex in marriage is accepted.

Is it a sin to study on Sabbath?

The Sabbath was established by God as a distinctive 24-hour period for rest and communion with Him. The act of studying or working on the Sabbath does not inherently imbue it with a special quality; it is merely another school day.

What are 5 things you cannot do on the Sabbath?

The text provides a comprehensive list of melachot, a traditional Jewish ritual, which includes carrying, burning, extinguishing, finishing, writing, erasing, cooking, washing, sewing, tearing, knotting, untying, shaming, plowing, planting, reaping, harvesting, threshing, winnowing, selecting, sifting, grinding, Kneading, combing, spinning, dyeing, chain-stitching, warping, weaving, unraveling, building, demolishing, trapping, shearing, slaughterering, spinning, tanning, smoothing, and marking.

The Virtual Reader can locate these definitions in the books themselves, but detailed footnotes are not available on the website. The text is taken from the book “SABBATH Day of Eternity” by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, published by the NCSY (National Conference of Synagogue Youth) Division of the Orthodox Union.

Can I work on Sabbath day?

Those who adhere to the Sabbath may engage in work on the Sabbath if they perceive their work to be indispensable for the benefit of others or if their profession is not amenable to interruption on any day of the week. Such examples include medical professionals such as doctors and nurses, caregivers, emergency personnel, law enforcement, and firefighters. Some professions are even conducted on the Sabbath to assist others in observing the Sabbath day.

Is it sinful to do homework on Sunday?

On Sundays and other holy days, Christians are required to avoid activities that hinder their worship, joy, and the performance of works of mercy. While family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse Sunday rest, they should not lead to habits that harm religion, family life, or health. The charity of truth seeks holy leisure, and the necessity of charity accepts just work. Christians should be vigilant about the Lord’s Day but avoid scrupulousness, as it can have debilitating effects on individuals and their loved ones. For more information, see the Church’s treatment on the Third Commandment and Catholic Answers presentations on observing the Lord’s Day.

Can I study for a test on Sabbath?

The text posits that it is permissible to pursue secular studies on the Sabbath or a festival for personal edification, whereas the practice of studying for examinations in subjects that are not of interest is a topic that is the subject of considerable debate, with a diversity of opinions espousing opposing views.

Is studying allowed on Shabbat?

The inquiry appears to pertain to secular studies, given the prevailing view that Jews should engage in Torah study on both the Sabbath and weekdays. While it is permissible to peruse secular educational materials on the Sabbath, it is advisable to limit such activities if possible.

Can you do math on Shabbat?

The minhag is lenient in science, math, and medicine, but not history or fictional novels. However, those who fear heaven should refrain from secular wisdom on Shabbat. Chazal prohibited certain reading materials from being read on Shabbat due to concerns about erasing or inappropriateness for the holy atmosphere. This broad category of prohibited reading is known as shtarei hedyotot, and some believe it only applies to business documents, while others are more expansive.

What is forbidden during Sabbath day?

The prohibition of doing m’lakhah on Shabbat includes various activities such as earning a livelihood, engaging in business or commercial transactions, shopping, and performing strenuous physical exertion. This includes changing the physical world, making preparations for events after Shabbat, and engaging in drudgery. The Observant Life: The Wisdom of Conservative Judaism for Contemporary Jews explores the profound questions of living a Jewish life with timeless values, remaining loyal to the covenant between the Jewish people and the God of Israel, and embracing the law while maintaining fidelity to one’s own moral path.

The work is a comprehensive guide to life in the 21st Century, covering Jewish rituals, holidays, life cycle events, and Jewish ethics such as citizenship, slander, taxes, wills, courts, and the workplace. The authors of The Observant Life explain what it means to live a Jewish life honestly, morally, and purposefully, providing a comprehensive guide to life in the 21st Century.

What you Cannot do on Sabbath day?

What you Cannot do on Sabbath day?

The biblical ban against work on the Sabbath, which is observed throughout the year on the seventh day of the week, is a significant aspect of Jewish tradition. It commemorates the original seventh day on which God rested after completing creation. Scholars have not been able to trace the origin of the seven-day week or the Sabbath, as it does not align with either a solar or a lunar calendar. Some scholars suggest a Babylonian origin for the Sabbath and the Sabbath, but this term has little in common with the Jewish Sabbath.

The Sabbath is central to Judaism, as reflected in the Talmud and Midrash, as well as numerous legends and adages. The Sabbath is the only Jewish holiday enjoined by the Ten Commandments and is a place where Jews are obligated to sanctify it at home and in the synagogue by observing Sabbath laws, engaging in worship, and study. The leisure hours afforded by the ban against work on the Sabbath were used by the rabbis to promote intellectual activity and spiritual regeneration among Jews. Other days of rest, such as the Christian Sunday and the Islamic Friday, also owe their origins to the Jewish Sabbath.

  • Hey BEAT family, this is part two in our study of Seventh-day Adventist them. Please do keep in mind that these articles are not meant or intended to bash any particular member of that denomination as we respect the beliefs of all. However, it is my intent to clarify what I believe is the biblical position on some very important theological issues. In this article we will discuss the important and divisive topic of Christians and the Sabbath.

  • Hi Mr. Parr and everyone. How come is it the 4th commandment only that is now optional, and where in the bible does it say this? You say that Jesus kept the Sabbath because he was still under old covenant, but if you read Matthew 24: 20; when Jesus is asked about two FUTURE events (destruction of the temple & His second coming) He says to His apostles to pray that their flight to be not in winter nor on the Sabbath! Why does Jesus make reference to a Sabbath when being asked about a FUTURE event (events that He knew will happen long after His death – under the “new covenant”) if they were not expected to keep it? If you say it’s optional, please share the chapter & verse.

  • My reading this morning brought me to this. Psalm 119:1-8 ” Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.” God is pretty clear about honoring His commandments. Allan Paar says we can put them aside. I think I’ll stick with what God wants. Blessings to all as you study God’s Word.

  • Obeying the law expressed in the ten commandments cannot earn salvation but willfully breaking them and teaching others to do likewise will prevent one from serving only God. One cannot willfully go on committing adultery, bearing false witness, having other Gods or forgetting the 7th day Sabbath etc and expect to receive or retain the Holy Spirit of God.

  • The issue of Sabbath is sin and obedience. Is it a sin to break the law? Is it a sin to break the 10commandments? Is the 4th commandment part of the law? How do you view sin under salvation? Can you commit adultery, worship idols, steal and kill and make it into the kingdom? How is Sabbath excluded from all the other 9 that God wrote with his own finger?

  • I was 5 years of chronic illness! I was Semi Housebound, lost my health, job, finances and my fiance left me. I couldn’t even look at electronic screen for 5 minutes, or hold a 10-minute conversation. But God did an amazing work. And if he can do this, he can do it in you also. 👍🏼 I now have a Christian website where I encourage people and show them what God did in my life and that there is hope for you also. ✝️🔥☺️ Keep believing even when it’s hard 🙏❤️🔥👆🏼☺️ All things are possible with God

  • Joshua 1:5 “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” Is this promise to Joshua only or can we apply this to ourselves as well? If the promise given to Joshua, before the children of Israel ever entered the promised land can be applied to us the what about God’s commandments? Are they for us also? Obviously the answer is “Yes”. The commandments are also promises. God promises us “You shall have no other gods before me”. He will keep us safe from false gods, He promises us that. He also promises us we will “Remember the Sabbath day…” His holy day, to keep it holy. Blessings to all as you study God’s Word.

  • It saddens me to see how you are so adamant on propagating error… How can you say that God’s commands are options for us to choose? You have all the light before you but you study not to receive the truth but to find hooks to hang your doubts and place your erroneous interpretation on the Scripture, may your eyes be opened to understand the real issues at stake with the Sabbath issue.

  • Ever since the beginning of this created earth, God’s work of creation God has shown that He takes care of his children and is concerned about us. He gave us instruction to keep the Sabbath day holy (seventh day of the week) after He rested on it, blessing, sanctifying and making it holy (Genesis 3:1-3 & Exodus 20:8-11). This is not the only instance in which the Sabbath is mentioned to be kept prior to when the ten commandments which were written with the finger of God were given. God had instiuted it in the creation week since Moses and the people of Isreal knew that they must obey God by keeping the Sabbath and His law and in this occasion by saving manna for the Sabbath on Friday (Exodus 16: 23, 28). He also specifically wrote to REMEMBER it as He had said so since the beginning. We may not be jews but we are all the descendants of Adam and if we are going to the New Jerusalem then we should also be the modern isrealites is a renewed pact with the same God. The day itself is supposed to be separated for God and not just keeping it by going to church on that day but keeping the Sabbath is more than just a day of rest it should be kept by doing God-centered activities trying to be the most intimate with God. Furthermore, as a 7th Day Adevntist, I believe that keeping the Sabbath is just another of the commandments God has commanded us to keep and obey. The Sabbath allows us to give the recognition God deserves as our Creator. A bond or clasp between Creator and creation. It shouldn’t be a matter of salvation.

  • Hey sir, I’m glad you’re doing further research. You’ve grossly misinterpreted the SDA faith but hopefully, through study of the fundamental beliefs of the Adventist faith and of scripture, guided by the Holy Spirit, you’ll be led into truth. God’s makes clear how important His commandments are. All of them. Don’t relegate any of them.

  • As a Sabbath keeper myself, it’s not that we keep it to be saved or receive salvation but rather to honor & listen to God’s word. God asked us to keep the Sabbath & made it holy (“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Exodus 20:11). I do attend an SDA church and although Ellen G white is someone who was inspired by God, what she stated about the Sabbath that you referred to (8:38) isn’t something my church believes. Plus she was a person, not God and people make mistakes which is why we must test everything that is stated by the word of God (the Bible). We believe the Bible over her and God’s word over anything else. So we believe that we can only be saved by accepting Jesus’ free gift of salvation. Not by works (what you do), keeping the Sabbath (that alone won’t save you, that would be saved by works), what you eat, or what we wear. We try to follow God’s instructions based on the Bible in order to live the best way and fully while here on earth.

  • “The church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant, claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter the Seventh Day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant. “– The Catholic Universe Bulletin, August 14, 1942, p. 4.

  • It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church. —Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.

  • Thank you for your effort to make clear your beliefs and raise important biblical points. Your presentation should be an ENTRY point and it means a lot to someone who wants to know about the Sabbath. Your followers should Study the BIBLE for themselves (through the help of Holy Ghost) and know where the truth REALLY is! GOD BLESS.

  • NO OFFENCE INTENDED. SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISM HS FLAWS. Please be open to what I say even though it may sound harsh Eventually, I mean well. The Bible says: 1. “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holiday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath day” (Colossians 2: 16). That means that those that see Saturday as a way of judging people regarding their salvation, are in error of justifying themselves by the works of the law. This was Ellen G. White’s big mistake. The Bible states that “by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified for by law came consciousness of sin” (Romans 3: 20). These festivals, feasts and Sabbaths are really what the Bible calls “Types and Shadows” prefiguring the coming of Jesus Christ the Messiah. Now that Jesus has come He has fulfilled all of these. 2. In Seventh day Adventism there is the doctrine of soul sleep. This is not so according to Christian Near-Death-Experiences and Outer- Body-Experiences. There is a plethora of such NDE’S and OBE’s in medical science, and in the annals of history that the soul survives bodily death. In Quantun Physics, the universe is said to be multi-dimentional St. Paul said: “I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven” – 2 Corinthians 12: 2. 3. BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS OF ELLEN G. WHITE, THE FOUNDER OF SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISM. I DON’T KNOW IF YOU ARE AWARE THAT SHE SAID THAT JESUS CHRIST WAS THE ARCHANGEL MICHAEL?

  • I was raised Seventh-Day Adventist, but am no longer. However I still believe and keep Saturday as the Sabbath. Even Jesus when He was resurrected, He rested on Saturday. There is so much to be said about why I believe Saturday is the Sabbath, but it is too much for one comment on here. Based upon my research and separation from the religion, I still believe Saturday is the Sabbath. There are things that I still believe that Seventh-Day Adventist believe, but there are many things I do not agree with. I am also aware that we do not get into heaven through works. I look at it this way, if I love God/Jesus, I will WANT to and DESIRE to follow His teachings. Not because I believe I will be saved through works, but because I now understand why He is telling me and told me what He has. I will truly feel and believe His way is the right way. I no longer associate myself with a denomination. I say I am a non-denominational Saturday keeper who believes and follows the Bible. We are here to help each other grow, but we must choose what and why we believe what we do for ourselves. Just because someone says something is true and the right way means nothing. We must study the Bible for ourselves and rely on God and The Holy Spirit for guidance.

  • I am a SDA. I worship on Sabbath, preach on Sabbath and on Sundays preach in a non SDA denomination. Do I preach there about the Sabbath, no I preach about Jesus His love. Jesus Himself says that He has sheep in different folds and will bring them together so it will be One fold, one Shepherd. That’s why I don’t have any reason to denigrate another denomination. What other SDA say or do is up to them and the Lord. Where ever I have the opportunity to tell about the Risen Savior I will. There is so much what we can together instead of fighting each other. Christ is coming let us stay focus on Him and we won’t get ourselves lost in other denominations. For all will have to give a personal account. We are not being saved by our denomination but by Gods saving grace through Jesus Crowning sacrifice. Much love for you all and if we don;t meet here on earth, look for me at the Hallelujah square and teh Overcomers Blvd.😇🙏

  • I would like to share my experience. I am currently going to a SDA church and have been going there since 2018. One of the reasons I joined is that I was convinced that Saturday not Sunday is meant to be the true worship day. As I lack faith back then, I joined the SDA in fear because I needed to Sabbath to be saved. In 2020, I had a reality check regarding my faith, it shouldn’t be my decision but it should be God’s decision on how we should view Sabbath and the answer is to spend time with him and not having to be scared that I need the Sabbath on Saturday or whatever day. Instead, I was told by some members of the SDA church that I have to keep Sabbath from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset regardless of my faith and personal life. Back then, it affected my mental health as my mind was clustered with how different churches teaches the Bible. The answer is not all churches is right or wrong but in the end it is according to whether the church are interpreting the Bible correctly through the faith and grace of Jesus Christ. I mean it’s ok if someone from the SDA church wants to give us the time and choice if we choose to observe their way of Sabbath, but to be forced into it (like what I have experienced) that’s a different story. As I have matured through faith overtime, I came to realise that it’s not that I need the Sabbath to be saved but it’s how I used the Sabbath to spent time with God. I do have concerns about some of the ways that SDA churches and perhaps other denominations teaches but in the end it’s about how God leads us, not other people having to drag into a church because of their interpretations on Sabbath of other topics.

  • You are cherry picking. I don’t believe in all the teachings of the church but I do believe in the Sabbath. It is the 4th commandment. “If you love me keep my commandments ” As the women were preparing to wash and oil Jesus’ body they realized the Sabbath was fast approaching so they decided to go home and return to his tomb on Sunday. Had the covenant been “nailed” to the cross that wouldn’t have happened. The Sabbath is real.

  • 17:31 only for the old covenant? Jeremiah 31 let’s see what the Bible actually says and let’s test your theory. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Who is the new covenant for Jew or Gentile? What is the new covenant? Put the LAW in your HEART. My brother, we gotta talk. This is leading people astray. We are not saved by keeping the 10 commandments but we WILL be condemned by breaking them. You have no problem with not cheating on your wife or not murdering or not worshipping another god but oh, let’s not keep the Sabbath… but if we DO keep it, let’s keep it on the wrong day… come on brother, we gotta talk Allen. This is not good.

  • I believe that the sabbath is on a Saturday. God said we should rest on that day and keep it holy, he did not say we should come together with other Christians to worship him. So to my understanding we are supposed to rest on Friday sun down to Saturday Sun down then go to church any other day we want to go.

  • Not sure why everyone is clapping for you brother when you are literally overturning the Law of God ….I wish you could not read Ellen White but read the Bible….But I am glad you are on the right path to discovering the God of the Sabbath. Scholars have taken your path and came back more converted than anything. So I am praying for you that like Paul the scales will fall from your eyes so understand the God of the Ten Commandments. You cannot defend the authenticity of the gospel by undermining the foundations of Christianity …question do you steal and do you covert another man’s wife and why are you busy confusing the Mossaic law and the Law written by the finger of God on a tablet of stone on mount Sinai? The Bible is wholesome book in it’s totality you don’t cherry pick that which your ears itches to hear…. ..by keeping keeping quite and clapping hands for you while you dismantle the Law of God is to be an accomplice…..So let us worship and honour the Lord in the Beauty of his Holiness

  • I feel like I jumped from the frying pan into the fire I was raised LDS, left when I was in my twenties, my friend who is SDA invited me to go to her church, I have never even heard of SDA before, got sucked into their love bombing, read their beliefs, the one that says we believe the SDA church to be the remnant church raised a red flag with me, I said to myself that sounds just like the Mormons that they are basically saying they are the only true church, and also when I heard about the investigative judgement, raised another red flag. I think if they would throw out Ellen G. White’s teachings they might be a good church until then I am done with them.

  • “I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.” Galatians 2:20 I do not set aside only one day to worship God. I worship daily, I read my bible daily, I deny myself daily, I pick up my cross daily and I say this not to boast, but to proclaim that since Christ lives me, one day is not enough! My day starts with Christ and ends with Christ. There is no holiday away from God, there is no vacation from God. He alone sustains me. I have lived in Kuwait for 13 years, there are many house maids who get 1 day off a year. Are we to believe that since they can not observe the Sabbath they are condemned? I pray that we as believers focus upon Math. 22:37-40. Love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.

  • We can not pick and choose what God has ordained as a commandment. If it’s only a small thing why is there such contention regarding those who choose to follow the Sabbath on Saturday and keep it Holy? If it’s not important to God then if one follows it then God will honor the respect and obedience given to Him, but if you are wrong and out of arrogance you choose to disobey God then what will it cost you?? I am not a Seven day Adventist, but I know that they are correct about honoring Sabbath. Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it and In John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus became flesh and He is the living Word. So if we abide in Him we abide in His Laws and the Laws of the almighty Yahweh our creator! And Paul said not is the law void rather let it never be… in Romans 3:31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.. Also the “laws” that were spoken about were the Talmud and all the additions the Pharisees had imposed which were heavy burdens that they couldn’t uphold and were used to control and oppress. Those fake laws were never to be meant to be followed because they dismissed and tried to overtime scripture. If we have the Holy Spirit He brings to our remembrance the Laws that were established from the very beginning!

  • Happy Sabbath to all. I don’t know why the commentary on SDA’s but I pray you continue in your studies sir. There is way more to the why behind what we do than what you have mentioned. Look beyond the SDA website and into history itself. I implore you to continue in your studies in hopes that the Almighty Yah will bring you to the truth as He is doing with me. Peace and rest to you and your family on this Sabbath day.

  • Thanks, Allen. Please can you make a commentary on day Sunday, why so many Christians worship on Sunday with biblical prove of remember the Sunday to keep it holy. That would be a real blessing to me than you talk too much about Sabbath. Worshiping God is a choice, so talk about Sunday too, I can decide for myself, which day I will going to church to worship.

  • Your treatment of Acts 15 is disingenuous. Quite apart from the fact the Jerusalem Council did not list all of the commandments most Christians accept as binding on them, you studiously ignored the Council’s own acknowledgement that: “from early generations Moses has had in every city those who preach him, for he is read every sabbath in the synagogues” (Acts 15:21), indicating the letter was being sent to gentiles in sabbath-observing congregations. At this early stage in church history, there was no New Testament for Christian congregations (which typically met in synagogues) to draw on. Taken as a whole, the New Testament is unequivocal in its support for the Christian observance of the Biblical sabbath, which ran from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. For example, expecting sabbath observance to continue until the end times, Jesus – the Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:28; Luke 6:5) – told his disciples to pray that, when they see the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place, their flight not be on a sabbath (Matthew 24:15-20). In Acts 13:42-48, jewish and gentile converts alike observed the sabbath. In Acts 20:7, the breaking of bread refers to the evening meal after the sabbath was over. Notice that the reference is to the Jewish ‘first day of the week’, which ran from sunset on Saturday to sunset on Sunday, and not to the Roman ‘Day of the Sun’. Hence, the ‘breaking of bread’ was the Saturday evening meal. Acts 20:11 confirms that Paul departed at daybreak the next day.

  • I’ll agree to disagree with this presenter. I am a convert TO SDA. I was a VERY reluctant(and down right rude at some points) about conversion. But God showed me the answers to the questions my wife and I shared that NO-ONE in the/our Sunday going community would (or COULD) answer. At THIS point in history, Sabbath keeping (like many other things God says to do like eating healthy and obeying ALL TEN commandments) is not for Salvation but obedience and good practice. Although, He is VERY SERIOUS about the Sabbath and NEVER changed it. But in the future EVERYONE (atheists and non believers included) will be given orders/choice to worship on Sunday with the prophetic harlot in Dan & Rev (the institution that is the Roman Papacy) or be killed for blasphemy (like SO MANY others in history have already gone through). We need the strength of obedience and practice for those soon coming days leading to Jesus return. I don’t want the “I never knew you” response from my savior.

  • Dear Allen, I am an SDA. I believe that salvation is not through works. The Adventist church doesn’t teach that. The thing is that you are mixing prophecy with other verses that don’t correlate with each other. You are talking about different times in history. I won’t digress too much. I believe that you aren’t saved through works, but that a saved person works. In other words, I can’t proclaim that I am saved, but I keep lying. That will make me a hypocrite. There is a solution to stop sinning: It’s believing Jesus is with you at all times. You end up putting on the armor in Ephesians and talking to Him. Because he’s next to you, you ask yourself and Him, “how could I sin if you are with me?” As Christians, we make mistakes. Many mistakes. The thing is, we have to learn to live in communion with God. The law is holy. I would like to invite all of you to read John 5:39. After reading the verse, ask yourself this question: What scriptures was Jesus talking about? I think everyone’s answer will be the Old Testament. One of the problems nowadays is that we don’t want to personalize the whole bible, so sometimes some Christians tend to focus on salvation by grace alone (and that’s true), but if there’s no change in our lives, if nothing sets us apart from other people (non-believers), if we don’t have the fruit of the spirit, then we are liars. We are just fooling ourselves. Many people pull out the verses in Acts chapter 20 where Paul stays with them to break bread on the first day of the week.

  • Brother, I had paused this article half-way through when I wrote my first post. As I continued I think I just heard you say that Sabbath observance is an “option”. I think you said it’s a gift from God that is an option for us take or leave. Dude!!! Forget not the kindness and severity of God. Natural branches were cut off and we were grafted in. Before you say that the Sabbath was for the Jews please… honestly and prayerfully read this: “Thus says the LORD: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my righteousness be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD say, “The LORD will surely separate me from his people”; and let not the eunuch say, “Behold, I am a dry tree.” For thus says the LORD: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my covenant, I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off. “And the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, to minister to him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it, and holds fast my covenant— these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.

  • FYI: the SDA belief don’t have the kind of teaching, you are only making it up. Also, there is no such words in the Bible about if you “obey the Sabbath you will be saved”. And do not used that phrase to attack Seventh Day Adventist. Why don’t you just say “I can’t obey the Sabbath because it is convenient for me to go to Sunday” Why is it okay to observe the 9 commandments but the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy is hard for you to keep? “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast”. Ephesians 2:8-9, YES we are save by Grace, but continue reading on verse 10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM”. How could you walk in them without keeping the Sabbath. By the way, the keeping the law (10 Commandments) including the Sabbath is the result of being saved and your love to the Creator. John 14:15 “15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

  • Wilfred Sathianathan, Hi Allen, Christ told His disciples to pray to the Father that the flight would NOT be in winter or THE SABBATH DAY ! So, the Saturday Sabbath was in force AFTER Christ died ! Mark 2:27 and 28, Christ said that The Sabbath was made for man ( Not just for the Jewish people ). Man here means the whole human race, starting with Adam and Eve ! I am NOT a Seventh-Day Adventist. But, I believe, as we all Christians do, that murder was committed by Cain, Joseph said to the woman that he could not commit such a great wickedness AGAINST GOD, committing adultery etc. Where was then the written law ? The moral law was transmitted from parents to children orally TILL GOD HIMSELF WROTE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS ! He did NOT write 9 but 10 ! Nothing wrong in worshiping God any day or anywhere, but to call Sunday God’s holy day is obviously contrary to the word of God. God warns us NOT to add or take away from His word. As your brother in Christ, I warn you not to add or take away anything from His word. I can write more, but this will suffice for now. I do not want you to be a blind guide leading the blind ! Both will fall into the ditch ! I am praying for you and your mission. Thank you.

  • We rest on the Seventh day Sabbath, because it was instituted by God in creation, not first in Sinai. He knew Adam and Eve would sin one day. And at the very beginning, He gave a sign of salvation by faith. This is why the Bible says He/Christ was slain from the foundation of the earth- Revelation 13:8 And in Creation He gave us the command to keep the 7th Day Sabbath. Even today, the reason we rest is due to our belief in Righteousness by Faith. Faith is resting in God as He commands us to do. And not to work for our salvation. Sabbath is also a commemoration of God as creator. The Creator of the world, the Creator and sustainer of our salvation and faith. We keep the Sabbath as a sign that He is the One who sanctifies us, and not ourselves- Ezekiel 20:12 I would recommend doing a Biblical search for Righteousness by faith in the Old Testament, and a Biblical study of Righteousness by faith in the New testament. Salvation by faith was offered to mankind in the OT as well as in the NT.

  • Mr. Parr, i appreciate your teaching about this topic. I love the way you interprete and express your understanding with zeal. However, i find your explanation about this topic wanting. I recommend that you read more of the Bible, do more research, and most importantly stop overthinking; you are thinking beyond the actual points. Just don’t reason with your own intellectual ability, pray for the Holy spirit guidance especially with your reasoning. However, i really find your other articles very interesting and i have learnt alot. Thank you so much, God bless

  • After saving by Christ through my Faith in Him who died for my sins because death is the penalty of sin, I became to realize that Sabbath is the only way that God wants me to acknowledge Him as the Almighty Creator. No wonder because there are other gospels who also believes that we came from apes and monkeys instead of created by God in the likeness of His Image. That means anyone who rejects the Sabbath as a sign of acknowledging God as a Supreme Creator agrees that he/she may be descends from apes and monkeys.

  • I have question for you Sabbath doesn’t save people, but the Sabbath he is law of God?can show any place in the Bable Jesus Christ worship any other days only on the Sabbath!you never read in Genesis 2:1-3.Sevenday Adventist he is fourth group worship on Saturday 1) the Jewish people 2)the Jewish for Jesus Christ 3)the seven Baptist 5)the seven day Church of God and seven Adventist.Adam and Eve received from God.if you agree with the Catholic Church he is the man master of worship in Sunday as Lucifer gave to the Head of the Catholic Church of Satan.

  • “And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭2:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬ The sabbath was established at the beginning of creation. Jews(man) were not created for it. “And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭11:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬ What’s inside of the ark? Don’t be deceived. The commandments begin in Genesis and end in Revelation. Not a single word will be taken away from the law.

  • Please take the time to read Genesis 4:3-5. I heard you acknowledge that Saturday is the Sabbath, but you chose to celebrate on Sunday. We cannot choose to disobey and win. Both Cain and Abel performed acts of worship but God did not respect Cains because he was obsessed with himself and that is not truly worshiping God. In addition, you have a large audience which puts you at greater risk. Read Matthew 5;19. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Stop attacking the people of God.

  • Allen, I just want to tell you: you have been MONUMENTAL in my life and in helping me grow in my walk. My father is a pastor and it has brought it’s fair share of struggle in regards to my faith. It has been a blessing and a curse. Your articles have been used as a tool in my life to great effect… in fact I believe you have helped to open my eyes fully to Christ. I am forever thankful for you and your leadership and if I don’t meet you in this lifetime I look forward to worshipping side by side with you in eternity!

  • Observing the Sabbath is one of the commandments that Christians are to be observed it is one of the ten commandments. In the book of Genesis it clearly states God spent six days working on the seventh day of the week he rested. Sunday is the First Day Of The Week making Saturday the seventh day of the week. Jesus being a Jew observed the Sabbath which meant Jesus worshipped in the temple on Saturday not Sunday. It was the Catholic Church that changed one should observed Sunday because, Jesus rose early in the morning on the first day of the week. But, the fourth commandment of the ten commandments states one is to keep holy the Sabbath. If, one says it is not important to keep the Sabbath it is breaking the commandment of God.If keeping the Sabbath is not important then one can kill someone, rob, and have an adulterous relationship because, they maybe of the ten commandments but there not important either. What people seem to not realize keeping the commandments is loving God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and loving your neighbor as yourself. Because, one keeping the ten commandments is the fulfilling of the two great commandments loving God and loving our neighbors. In the gospel of St. John Jesus tells if you love him you keep the commandments. So, there is importance in keeping the commandments.

  • Genesis 2:1-3 The bible says God rested after his creative work. This rest was GOD’S REST and not anybody’s rest . He rested not because he was tired but that rest was only pointing to completion of his creative work. From Genesis 1 to Exodus 16, no single person in the bible rested on the Sabbath Day until it was given to them on Exodus 16:29-30. This was a gift of the Sabbath calculated to regulate conduct and/or behaviour. This gift of the Sabbath failed to change people’s behaviour until God turned it into law in.Exodus 20:8. Hebrews 7:18-19 says the law was weak and useless and made nothing perfect. God had a redemptive plan and in Galatians 4:4-8 God sent his son to redeem those who were under the law. Sabbath keeping was a law in Exodus 20:8 hence redemption in.Galatians 4. Hebrews 4:4-8 answers the issue of the 7th day. God set a day that he called the seventh day and on this day sets another day which he called TODAY. Now which day is TODAY? Everyday is TODAY and puts everyday to a day of worship. In Luke 16:16 Jesus says the Law and prophets were until John the Baptist. He was the last prophet to deal with the Law and the law was put to end by the death of Jesus Christ. We need to understand that OUR bodies are the temple of God or the house of God. The Trinity now dwells in us. We are containers carrying the glory of God and with the presence of God in us, who are we keeping the Sabbath day for. It was law and we were redeemed from the Law. Paul write in Romans 10:4 that Christ is the end of the law hence Sabbath keeping was law.

  • I find it odd that the only commandment that God says, “Remember” is forgotten by people today. I do not believe this is by coincidence. God knew that the enemy of our souls would want to make us forget the precious, special day He sat aside for us. Let’s be reminded that the Bible says “the Sabbath” not “a” sabbath and “the Seventh day” not “a day out of seven.” It’s like you get married and your wife has 6 sisters, and you tell your wife to meet you at the restaurant for a date night and one of her sisters meet you instead of her. You say “You’re not my wife” and she says, I’m one of the seven. Is that okay? I think not. What God has blessed and sanctified no man can undo and what God has not blessed and sanctified no man can bless it and call it as such. Man’s word does not trump the Word of God ever. Please pray for wisdom from God. Honestly, how does a Christian read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and not see the truth regarding the Sabbath. Constantine implemented Sunday. I plead with every Christian on here seeking after God, not the traditions of men to earnestly seek Holy Spirit and ask Him for wisdom and understanding regarding this matter in reading His Word to find His truth.

  • Sir…I literally paused this vido at 10:37 min. in…I will tell you EXACTLY where in the bible it says Sabbath is the key to salvation….All of the verses that say to keep his commandments. DONE. The fourth commandment says what??? REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY AND KEEP IT HOLY!!!!! If you break one commandment you are guilty of them all! thats another verse in the bible though I dont know exactly which one. just google it. You just have to think brother…use your GOD given mind. It is not that difficult. May GOD bless you with understanding and open your eyes to see the truth <3 And another thing...I can see why people look upon Adventists as being cult like...there are def. high regards to Ellen G. White... but let me tell you something...not anywhere you look..not anywhere you go...will you find perfection. It says in the bible that the elect of the elect error is still found in them. we are humans. we sin. we are not perfect by no means. Do some people take it a ittle far with Ellen G white? Im sure. But thats not what we should be focused on . what we need to be focused on is the truth in our BIble's. GOD's word. Ellen herself said to not look to her but to look to GOD. I think a lot of people get confused because of Ellen G. WHite and think she created the sabbath and therefore created the cult like image that people see adventists as today. But if you look in your bible, and your history books, you will see that the Sabbath was of LONG LONG LONG ago. FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. THE 7th DAY of CREATION, OBVIOUSLY. Im a 7th day Adventist and I just read my bible. I hear a lot about Ellen G White but I dont look to what she said...I look to GOD's word. The Bible. I think we all need to stop labeling through religion and focus on seeking the TRUTH...instead of trying to disprove one another. There will be many people of different walks, differnt faiths, that GOD will call upon. There eyes will be opened and they will see the truth. Not because 7th day Adventism is the true religion...thats ridiculous....but because THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH, religion aside. What do you think GOD meant when he said dont follow the traditions of men? Dont add or take away one word from this book (bible)? The papacey changed the day of worship to Sunday. Constantine wanted to convert more people to christianity so they decided to change the sabbath day (which is Saturday) to Sunday to appeal to the pagans whom worshipped the Sun on Sunday... It is in your history books. Ellen G white didnt have anythign to do with it as she wasnt even alive yet!!!! Do your research people!!! Stop listening to all of these people on youtube and just whip out your Bible and a history book!

  • Did you notice how even Allen Parr emphasized the fact that only the 7th Day is the Sabbath of the Lord our God! Praise God! This is a significant point to make. We all know the Catholics reverence Sunday as the Sabbath but even evangelicals are starting to do the same. Heaven will NEVER accept Sunday as a Holy Sabbath. Glad Allen conceded this point. The Holy Spirit is working…

  • I hope that these verses shed light onto some of the dilemnas posed in the article. Specifically, why worhip and obedience will be important in the end times, when the mark of the beast is enforced. “…know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9 NKJV “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, “because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Acts 17:30-31 NKJV Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. Matthew 24:3-4 NKJV For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:12-13 NKJV There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

  • Guys, the problem here is that this ellen woman is saying that those who go to church on sunday are going to hell. The bible never says that we are going to hell for not keeping the sabbath, so that is false teaching. Now, if people feel comfortable going to church on Saturday that is completely okay, Allen never said it was wrong.

  • These are not the teachings of EGW! This is in the bible. Exodus 31:16-17 New International Version 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’” Only this is taught in the SDA church that I go to on the saturday sabbaths. we follow the laws of the old testament about food and all. The problem is churches are uneducated and think they can throw out the OLD TESTAMENT. Matthew 5:17 The Fulfillment of the Law 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

  • Jesus summarized the Ten commandments into 2. Here are the explanations; The first four commandments has to do with our love for God. If we truly love God, we won’t, 1. Have other gods before Him, 2. We won’t make any graven image. 3. We won’t take His name in vain and 4. We won’t disregard the seventh day Sabbath. And the remaining six commandments has to do with our love for our fellow men. If we truly love our neigbour, 5. We won’t dishonour them including our father and mother. 6. We won’t kill them. 7. We won’t commit adultery with them. 8. We won’t steal from them. 9. We won’t bear false witness against them. 10. We won’t covet our neighbour’s belongings.

  • Kudos for admitting that Saturday will always be Sabbath! You nailed that one, while many will argue it. However, the reasoning about God not explicitly giving the Sabbath command in Eden is VERY misleading. God did not explicitly state the other 9 commandments at this time either. Does that mean Adam and his family were free to steal, lie, kill, adulter, etc? Was Satan’s lie to Eve ok? Was Cain commended by God for killing Abel? Were there not SEVERE penalties for these acts? This very fact proves there was a Law even then, as where there is NO law, there is NO sin. What an absurdly slippery slope! Virtually no one says we are free to CHOOSE whether the other 9 commands are to be obeyed! Per Scripture, the Ten Commandments are a cohesive unit. No one has the authority to chisel out one of the ten eternal laws written in stone and declare it to somehow deem it a mosaic law. Jesus upheld all 10 of the commandments, and John says the remnant at the end of history will still keep them. However, the Bible does say in Acts 17:30 that God has winked at times of IGNORANCE. Many have been ignorant of this topic, thanks to the massive influence of the beast power that promotes it. But now is not the time for those who have a copy of the Bible to promote and teach ignorance! Brother, you seem to be opposing Adventists, when in reality you are opposing simple Bible truths which existed centuries before there was an SDA church! Why be so insistent on teaching as doctrines the commandments of men?

  • I am an Adventist. The Bible and the Bible alone is my foundation of faith. This is what the Bible says. READ: Matthew 5:17-19; Matthew 15:3-6; Mark 7:6-9; Mark 2:27,28; Matthew 19:17-22; Luke 16:7; Mark 10:19-21; John 14:15; Romans 3:31; Romans 7:12; 1 Corinthians 7:19; Romans 7:22-25; Romans 8:1-4; Revelation14:12: Revelation 22:14; James 2:11,12; 1 John 3:4; Roman 7:7; Roman 13:9,10; Genesis 2:1-3; Luke 23:54,56. Who will you worship? God or the commandments of men? I chose to worship God.

  • The ceremonial laws( sanctuary service that dealt with slaughtering animals for the atonement of sins )were nailed to the cross because Jesus was a better sacrifice . I.E those sacrifices were a reflection or a foreshadow of the better sacrifice . But the moral law which is the Ten Commandments still stands.

  • Thank you for your article I’m not a Seventh-day Adventist but I do choose to keep the Sabbath day which Has always been Saturday. I keep the Sabbath from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. I definitely agree with you that it is not a requirement for salvation. We are saved by grace by believing and confessing that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and that he died on the cross to pay the price for sin and death.

  • Jesus resurrected on the first day of the week and met with his disciples for 40 days till the ascension o the first day of the week that’s 4 or 5 Sundays. Was He who knew no sin now committing sin? 2 For. 5:21 by not meeting on saturday sabbath and beginning a practice of worshiping on Sunday with His disciples. Absolutely NOT!!!

  • Dear Brother Allen Parr, I listened very carefully to your articles on the heresies of Adventism (Saturday, Ellen G. White). You are a very charismatic and persuasive teacher. You claim that you will go into the depth of the topic in your interpretation. I am a preacher of the Adventist Church and I am grateful to God for what he teaches from the Scriptures. Adventists do not teach salvation by works, but by God’s grace and Jesus’ ransom sacrifice accepted by faith. Ellen White is not on the level of the Scriptures, but she is a God-inspired teacher of spiritual truths just as you do in your lectures. Or do you not pray for the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit in your preparation and presentation? This is what she did when God encouraged her to teach the church and write her writings. Why did you choose attacks on another church as the main content of your lectures and instead you don’t preach salvation in Christ to unbelievers? Or you put yourself in the role of judge or prophet who warns. I do not sense love and tolerance from your attitude towards Adventists, but condemnation. I pray for you that God will put more love in your heart. Josef Hrdinka
