Can I wear sneakers for business casual?

Business casual is a trend in many workplaces, combining traditional business attire with casual components, including sneakers. It is best to stick to minimalistic and clean sneakers, with minimal detail. However, there are exceptions depending on the area of work, such as creative fields like fashion or advertising, where bolder colors and designs can be used. To stay on the safe side, start with simple dress sneakers.

White sneakers are ideal for work and are versatile, making them suitable for almost any outfit. High-quality suede or leather sneakers are recommended for their polished look, and bold patterns should be avoided. Minimalistic sneakers should be kept clean and free of stains or dirt marks, as they will be noticeable.

Are jeans okay for business casual?

To dress jeans up for work, go dark when in doubt, as darker jeans are more suitable for business casual dress codes. For men, choose Black, Rinse, or Heritage Rinse, while for women, Black, Dark Stone, Aged Medium Stone, Indigo 75, and Heritage Rinse are perfect colors. Choose the right jean fit for comfort, such as a mid or high rise jean and a softer denim for easy movement. Avoid thicker fabrics that restrict movement. Performance Denim offers stretch and durability for a full workday, while Four Way Flex fabric is made with plant-derived TENCEL Lyocell for comfort and movement.

Pair denim with more formal accessories, such as a classic leather or silver watch, simple gold or silver jewelry, a leather belt, or handbag, to elevate the look. Avoid colorful accessories like woven jewelry, large statement necklaces, casual backpacks, or hats, as they tend to look casual and dress jeans down.

What is nicer than business casual?

Smart casual is a less formal version of business casual, suitable for office and meetings, but not for informal environments. It can be worn with a plain, toned-down t-shirt under a jacket, with a t-shirt without a jacket being more casual. A shirt can be added with color or checked, and a blazer or pullover can be paired with it. Smart casual is suitable for casual settings, but not for formal settings.

  • Aww that was fun!!! Thank you for sharing this with us!!!! I also noticed a similar observation to yours in school! When things get really busy with assignments and studying I sometimes put less effort into my outfits (like very basic outfits with no jewelry), but when I did try a little more during those times I did feel better lol!!

  • Thank you for this!!! I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I’m a derm PA, I’m 5’2 and I often get comments about how young I look. I’m confident, experienced and knowledgeable, so those patients change their mind about me by the end of the visit. But of course it would be nice to not have to deal with that initial barrier/comment/impression.

  • You look amazing without makeup could definitely go business casual with no makeup. I’ve been trying to dress nicer recently wearing all blazers and vests all different dress clothes, I’ve been liking it. I just switched careers and became a programmer earlier this year. I finally got my bachelor’s, love your article!
