On 31 Dec 1968 FM were half way through their second US tour (early Dec ’68 – mid-Feb ’69) and appeared at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago on this date along with the Byrds and Muddy Waters. This 4-hour show (called Surprise Partie) was recorded on 27 Nov ’68. Other groups who appeared in Paris were the Who, the Small Faces, Aphrodite’s Child, PP Arnold, the Troggs & the Equals plus numerous French groups & artists. The show also featured separate inserts by Joe Cocker, Pink Floyd & Booker T & the MGs.
RIP Peter Green. Absolute legend British Blues Player. 🙏 This was and is still how it’s done. Great Musicians pumping it out solid, awesome Tone from Greeny and his vocal was cracking at this point of their game. 🔥 You don’t get this now days, as much as people think you do, you just don’t. The Rawness and Organic vibe of a proper Blues band.
damn, look at Danny! no more than a kid (coming from me a 23 year old) and he was keeping up with Peter like it was nothing. If those damn german cultists hadn’t got hold of Pete and Danny they would have gone far. Peter was already leagues above Clapton and given time I think Danny could have surpassed him. It’s sad that no one knows where Danny is these days but it’s nice to see Peter is getting back in the game.hope I get to see him live at least once before he hangs up his guitar for good
Look at all those beautiful, vintage Fender amps! And I guess we know where J. Geils Band got their arrangement, huh? Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac is always under the radar due to the huge, superstar Mac but this is a killer blues band. Peter had the touch and feel of The Blues. BB King called his playing “exquisitely melancholy,” an apt description. A shame that he no longer plays with that edge and power, but he’s been through a lot of shit in his life. I actually dig ALL versions of Mac, but the original band is the most captivating to the ear and the heart, imho.
+bluegreen988 I think it’s important that people are able to express their opinion on music and art in general. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I will give you this Blue, there are a few people like you out there that do find this kind of music boring or to really pinpoint your remark find the original Fleetwood Mac boring. I’m not one of those people. I actually place Peter Green and the original Fleetwood Mac on my list of great groups from the 60s / 70s. Peter Green is a guitar player that can grab me with one note placed in the right place. He isn’t a shredder by any means and often asked of younger people they wouldn’t even know that there was an original Fleetwood Mac. Just the band with the chicks. I couldn’t really get on board with the Mac line up. To try and change your mind just for at least one song why don’t you give this one a listen and see if this makes you tap your foot just a little bit. Thank you for posting your opinion on the Early Years article youtu.be/u8lme8he8WU
Never knew they’d done this one. Love it! Great live footage – Kirwan hadn’t been in the band for too long at this point, had he? Still looks like he’s about 14 years old here! Amazing how much older he looked only a year later. I’ve got this saved in my favorites, along with many other of the old Kirwan/Green-era Mac.
What muppett disliked this?! I mean really, what is there to dislike? This is awesome!! I just wish I’d been there. What a great start to 1969. There’s footage of The Small Faces and P.P. Arnold playing on the same show with a drunk looking Keith Moon and Pete Townshend in the audience…what a party that must have been backstage!!
You ask why ? Quite simply ‘cos the dude on the camera doesn’t care about the blues – but has to show the world that HE is the real artist and what nice things he can do with HIS ‘instrument’ 🙂 But it could be worse: just look up the clips of the HydePark FreeConcert of Blind Faith (Clapton plays solo and you’ll see the shoes of Ginger).
@lheavy1970 I, and I suspect millions of others, haven’t a clue who Adam Sandler is, or what he looks like. Nor do they really Care. PG looks like PG to me, and always was a style icon, without meaning to be?. The Audience, on the other hand, seem to be caught in 1964….. and Carnaby Street, Hermans’ Hermits (no disrespect intended).
@avlisk No big deal. Christine didn’t join the band till after Peter left. She did some keyboard/vocal work on “Kiln House” as well as the album cover art. I like Jeremy, but the Elmore James impersonation got old after awhile. He wasn’t involved with “Then Play On” besides a few piano things here and there. Great band either way.
