Can Vegans Consume Chicken?

Vegetarians do not eat animal-based products like fish, meat, and chicken, and they also avoid by-products of slaughter like gelatine and animal rennet. They can eat plant-based foods like legumes, fruits, nuts, seeds, and vegetables, as well as dairy products and eggs while avoiding all types of meat, including red meat, poultry, and chicken.

However, some vegetarians may eat chicken, as it is not considered a vegetarian. Most vegetarians avoid meat, poultry, and fish, but some also restrict eggs, dairy, and other animal products. A pollotarian diet is a type of semi-vegetarianism in which chicken is allowed, but red meat and pork are not. Some pollotarians may also include eggs and dairy in their diet.

A lacto-ovo vegetarian eats dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian eats no meat at all, including poultry or fish. A lacto vegetarian diet excludes meat, fish, and poultry, as well as eggs and any foods containing eggs. Chicken can be part of a climate-friendly diet, but we are eating way too much of it.

Polotarianism is the practice of adhering to a diet that incorporates poultry as the only source of meat in an otherwise vegetarian diet. A pollotarian diet is a type of semi-vegetarianism in which chicken is allowed, but red meat and pork are not. Some pollotarians may also include eggs and dairy in their diet.

In conclusion, vegetarians do not eat animals, but they can still consume plant-based foods and occasionally eat chicken.

Is chicken vegetarian or not?

Chickens are not naturally vegetarians, like turkeys, ducks, or other domesticated birds. Instead, they are opportunistic omnivores, consuming a wide variety of materials such as fruits, seeds, leafy materials, arthropods, worms, leeches, snails, crustaceans, small mammals, and snakes. This omnivorous diet is a result of their pre-domesticated ancestors, the Red and Green Jungle Fowl, native to South Asia.

These animals have more genetic code pre-dating their interaction with humans than those that changed during their domestication. The study of domesticated animals, such as chickens, can provide insight into their dietary needs and the evolution of their diets.

Can you eat chicken as a vegetarian?

A pollotarian is a semi-vegetarian who primarily consumes poultry and excludes red meat and pork from their diet. This dietary pattern may reduce the risk of certain cancers and type 2 diabetes, and is often selected for various reasons.

Can vegans have chicken?

Vegans abstain from consuming animal-derived foods, including red meats such as beef, pork, lamb, chicken, duck, and poultry, as well as fish and shellfish. This is due to the fact that these foods are derived from living creatures and, as such, are not permitted for consumption.

Is chicken meat yes or no?

Chicken is considered meat by the USDA and the American Meat Science Association, and is often referred to separately due to its nutritional content. Red meats have more saturated fat than skinless chicken, and the American Heart Association recommends choosing skinless chicken and lean meat, including lean ground chicken, “choice” or “select” cuts of meat, and extra lean ground beef. Birds are considered mammals and have unique traits, such as feathered bodies.

Why did I quit vegetarianism?

Being a vegetarian or vegan requires careful planning to obtain the necessary vitamins and nutrients for a healthy lifestyle. Some may feel the need to stop being a vegetarian due to the planning involved, while others may simply be tired of the process. However, there are ways to work around this by ordering from healthy vegan restaurants or meal delivery services.

Intuitive eating has emerged as a popular alternative to traditional diets, where individuals listen to their hunger cues to understand their eating patterns and needs. This philosophy suggests that individuals should know what their body needs to eat to stay healthy and happy. Eating disorders can sometimes arise from veganism and vegetarianism, but it is not a guarantee that these diets lead to developing an eating disorder.

Life events like pandemics, layoffs, and failures can break one’s resolve in the plant-based diet. Some find comfort in meat during stressful times, while others may find options decrease due to local availability or job requirements. Pregnant women often return to eating meat due to changes in their body.

Changes in religion, such as Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism, can also lead to a change in diet. While many consider the vegan diet healthy, some may choose to consume meat again.

Some people are scared about the consequences of returning to meat and poultry after quitting vegetarianism or veganism. However, Professor Birger Svihus from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) believes that the body would not be unable to digest meat once they started eating meat again, as enzymes in the body break down meat proteins in the same way they do with plant proteins.

Can a vegetarian eat eggs?

Vegetarianism excludes any form of animal flesh, including the egg. Many vegetarians include eggs in their diet while avoiding poultry, beef, pork, fish, and other animal products. These diets are classified as ovo-vegetarian (excluding dairy) and lacto-ovo vegetarian (including dairy). Vegetarians need to consume a variety of foods that provide different types of amino acids to meet their daily needs, as plant protein often lacks essential amino acids. This is especially important for those who are lacto-ovo vegetarian, as plant protein often lacks essential amino acids.

Do vegetarians need to eat meat?

A vegetarian diet excludes meat and seafood, with variations including eggs and dairy. Vegetarians avoid meat for various health, environmental, ethical, religious, and economic reasons. There are various types of vegetarianism, and a well-planned vegetarian diet can meet nutritional needs throughout life. However, certain nutrients, like protein, iron, calcium, zinc, vitamin B12, and vitamin D, may be harder to obtain from certain types of vegetarian diets. Special care is needed during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and with children on vegetarian and vegan diets.

Did egg is vegetarian?

Vegetarianism excludes animal flesh, but eggs are considered vegetarian. To ensure their needs are met, vegetarians should consume a variety of foods that provide different types of amino acids.

Do vegans eat chicken?

Vegans abstain from consuming animal-derived foods, including red meats such as beef, pork, lamb, chicken, duck, and poultry, as well as fish and shellfish. This is due to the fact that these foods are derived from living creatures and, as such, are not permitted for consumption.

Is vegan really healthier?

A vegan diet is not inherently healthy; however, incorporating a variety of plant-based foods while avoiding processed foods and meats is crucial for optimizing health benefits, regardless of whether or not one chooses to eat meat.

Is vegetarian chicken a thing?

Vegan chicken is a vegan substitute that mimics the form, texture, and taste of chicken meat. It includes various options like chicken nuggets, popcorn chicken, goujons, sliced lunch meat, meaty chunks, and chicken breast fillets. While some argue that vegan chicken is a fake, it is actually a real food. Vegan chicken serves the same role in a meal as animal meat, so it should be used as such. Companies like ours use the term vegan chick*n for clarity.

  • I have been a vegetarian and a non vegetarian. Trust me being a vegetarian completely changes the way you think and the way you perceive the world . It gives more tolerance patience and internal calmness . Westerners are following Vegetarianism rapidly but we Indians dont appreciate the values of our forefathers !!!

  • Whether u r a vegetarian or non vegetarian, at least one should know how their meal is being prepared. For non-vegetarians, at least they should visit slaughterhouse once a while & see the cruelty, how their meal is prepared, feel the pain and then decide whether they r ok with it. Or else atleast watch slaughter house articles. Make sure your kids also watch. Don’t hide your food process from them.

  • I watched this as a meat eater hoping that he would make me feel better about my choices. He did, for a moment. But then I thought through “only what is necessary to nourish ourselves.” Eating meat requires the animal dies and all of the plants that it eats dies. It’s also worse for the soil and the environment overall, so you are truly creating more suffering than necessary when you are eating meat. I think I’m left with only one choice now…

  • I am a vegetarian by birth. The fact that plants feel pain troubled me for over a decade. I felt very bad that the whole idea of being vegiteration was misplaced. But very recently I read a sentence from some evolutionary biology paper which quotes.. The pain felt by any organism is proportional to its ability to react.. So I just hope that plants feel pain much lesser than animals.. Infact close to zero pain.I can’t be sure, but I hope they do.

  • I am very good in that matter, I have small number friends who do same..I am veg, they r non-veg…1. we do not through food, once that comes into our plate 2. We take only required quantity 3. We do not search for food 4. We have it whatever available on that certain point 5. No complain on taste 6. We eat with lot of respect, no hurry, ..

  • I hope Sadhguru reads this —– 🙏🙏I think Sadhguru is scared of offending his meat eating followers. Plants have some understanding of their surroundings but they don’t have pain receptors, a central nervous system or a brain, besides in nature any living being that is capable of experiencing pain also has the ability to run away from what’s causing it pain (nature has evolved these creatures with arms and legs). Plants have roots to stay in one place, if they experienced pain they would also be equipped with legs to run away. If all of life stopped eating plants, life as we know it will come to a halt on earth, except for some bacteria However when we eat meat we are causing unnecessary pain and suffering to animals that want to live a full life like you and me. There is no nutritional benefit from eating meat and now FDA has also labelled meat as a carcinogen, while a vegan or a plant based diet have shown to reverse a lot of the modern day ailments.

  • Totally agree with Sadhguru on this. He just destroyed both vegetarians and so called foodies with single answer. You eat for nourishment and survival not for pleasure. It doesn’t matter veg or no-veg, whatever available cheap and best at the time and dont indulge in it. MODERATION is the key and everyone’s intellect will tell you if they’re in for impulsive pleasures so stay away from it.

  • I won’t lie, I’ve never struggled for food so I don’t think I’ve EVER appreciated it as a basic source of sustenance. I wish I could have heard Sadhguru speak when I was much younger, it may have influenced many things in my life. At least I can educate my kids from an early age, maybe that’s my purpose in this life.

  • I was hard core eater… You won’t believe in 2019 feb to march, 53 days every single day in breakfast lunch dinner i would eat chicken or fish or egg… I was unable to control this habit… But, something happened. I’m a part of sadahnapada now, im pretty good to be with myself and have veg food only. It’s been 4 months since I haven’t eaten a piece of non veg food…. I will not identity myself ever as a NON VEG again.. It’s just whatever you eat, eat concisously……

  • Her: But, I’m an animal lover too. Sadhguru: Oh, so that why you eat them… I loved that answer. So simple yet so profound. Even though I don’t always agree with Sadhguru, that right there shows the reason why I still listen to him. The man is as wise as they come. Thank you God for allowing me to learn from Sadhguru through the comfort of my house, thousands of miles away from him. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Whatever he says ppl blindly follow. Eating animals was evolutionary part of our history. If humans wouldn’t have eaten animals we would have reached where we are right now. It’s a choice to go vegetarian but to maintain balance of the ecology and the world meat products should not be stopped. Now the concern comes whether animals are brutally slaughtered for this purpose? Yes, they are but if everyone choose to consume plant based diet it will have others consequences. The only thing we can do is to be grateful for the animal and should respect the meat.

  • As for now i am non vegetarian but after seeing and realizing the fact thats really knocked in my heart so i have decided to change non vegetarian to vegetarian Forever .yes animals has also the right to live they feel pain as well when they cutted by us I am very sad but decided the new change nd i know i will it..😔😔😔😔

  • Well if u don’t eat the fruit, then also the tree will drop it. So you can eat food without killing anything. Likewise there are so many vegetables that will drop on the floor by itself if u don’t pluck it by urself. I can agree with Sadhguru for the fact that Eating food just for taste is wrong. And I just want to add a point that… If there is any source for nutrients that can be intaken without harming anyone… Then eating animals conscientiously is wrong!!!

  • Sadguru, I have heard so many articles where people put allegations on you. U still treat them well. U join hands and address them. This is really nice about you. I am really moved. People raise voice in front of you and I see you still respecting them. I have not seen you loose control of the situation and shout at anyone. Sadguru a big Namaskaram to you.

  • Animals which thoughts and feelings in consideration, later claim themselves as human, gradually.Animals usually use their brain to think but not to liberate. But,nowadays we see they started to liberate. The supremacy of thought always urge you to critical thinking and execute your deeds without knowing the reflection but your feeling at the bottom of your heart which the holy spirit stays will tells you – only if you consider it! When you realise, you may conclude the findings of the question -Live to eat or eat to live.

  • A really correct explanation! However, there are 2 things I’d like to add: 1)There’s a possibility for people who eat animals to feel bad they’re killing them, because they express their feelings and so they may be bothered by it adding to negativity. That may be inevitable till they reach a true sense of oneness with all beings. 2)We all can call ourselves ‘foodies’ too, provided what we mean is we are truly grateful for our food and for having a great relationship with our food.

  • I was born in non vegetarian family but turn vegetarian (no egg, no seafood,no meat,) i love animals. They are like children to me. I do feel temptation and craving but i can’t eat my loved one. Also it wasn’t smooth road as my family was like eat nonveg,i did ate non veg after 1 month or so but i told myself we can’t do it again. It’s alright to feel craving but master self control. ā¤ļø

  • What he said actually makes a lot of sense. Science has proved it long back that plants are living things too. Yet criticizing animal eaters is still common in our society. What we should also realize is eating fruits and vegetables is equivalent to eating animal. Just because you don’t see flesh and blood while you pluck the vegetables doesn’t mean that you have not ended a life of another living species.

  • Through non-veg there may be ease for nourishment but all those nutrients are also available through vegetarian means. A disease free body and a healthy body are two different aspects. We are going through psychological disorders and various incurable acute ailments like never before, inspite of having so many resources and advancements in medicine. There is inertia in body, which can be simply experienced after eating unhealthy or not-so-easily digestible food like non-veg. Thus sleep quota is also increased and body consumes more energy in digestion process and metabolism. Simply looking at the distressful lives of people, there are enough symptoms and we can’t claim that we are leading a healthy and balanced life being the economic superpowers of the world.

  • If you’re looking for an answer, here it goes. To produce a kg of meat, it takes more than 30 kgs of plants. So by the argument that even plants feel pain, as a non-vegetarian we are causing 30 times more pain every time we consume meat. This knowledge turned a hardcore non-veg lover like me into a vegetarian.

  • It’s been 22 years of my birth and when my parents started to feed me non veg at the age of 5, they say I resisted it and kept crying for a week. I am a vegetarian till today and will be until . Plants do have life but they have enough to feed others like milk from cows, which they give by their will.

  • Sadhguru ji, I have listened to a lot of your preaching / view points and have learnt a 1000 things. Pranams to you. But, I have learnt from my Gurus that plants also have sensitivity but do not have a sense of pain. So, plucking a fruit and killing an animal for food is still not the same. Though, cutting / uprooting a tree / plant does cause loss of life which is bad.

  • “foodie can’t be your identity” 👏 People even share Funny quotes like ” I am on see food diet, when I see food I eat it”. And update pics of their fancy food they eat always .Which is disgusting. This does not make it easy …if they want to loose weight or stay in control when they get old. Coz they branded themself as a foodie.

  • Dear viewers, Pl consider one thing that God/Nature created two types of species 1. Vegetarian 2. Non vegetarian Naturally vegetarian species not eat non veg food for ex. Buffalo, cow, horce, zebra, bulls, etc. And non vegetarian species not eat veg food for ex. Tiger, lion, etc. Non vegetarian species drink water by toungue and vegetarian species drink water by mouth. Diff. Is that one should either veg or non veg. Both not . A non vegetarian species can survive only on meat but man can not survive only on meat . Then how can anyone give logic for non vegetarian mans. Non vegetarian species can directly eat rough meat but man only eat meat by processing. So point is that Human is vegetarian by naturally. So be vegetarian.

  • Agree with him and there is much more on it that I would like to add. 1. Plants are living being with only one senses(touch) where as most of the meat you consume are from living being with 5 senses. They have the brain and they experience the pain and fear.. 2. Most of the veg food you eat is actually the product of plants and you actually don’t cut the whole (except the roots like onion, garlic, etc. ) So that’s the minimal and least violence. 3. On the other hand non veg food is actually considered as Tamsic which is highly prone to develop negative qualities in our body. Understanding from the Karmic point of view, greater the violence is, more you attract bad karmas.

  • This is so disappointing to watch :/ plants don‘t feel pain the same way animals do. There‘s evidence of inter plant communication while being cut, but that doesn‘t make it the same as slaughtering animals… if you pick the fruits/vegetables or cut part of a plant it will repair itself and continue to grow, different to when an animal is slaughtered… also, with this guru’s logic, eating animals, means that you have to feed them plants… thereby hurting plants… so it makes no sense whatsoever. Becoming a celebrity and having a platform like this can indeed be dangerous to society.

  • The question of food habit is more deep. If our parents must have eaten non-veg or veg food to produce us, then we will have the same cravings. Food cravings are something like voice of the stomach. Our primary diet never changes. The non-vegetarians cannot understand vegetarians and vice versa. Both of them are made of different food energies. This food habit cannot be changed by someone’s saying. It is natural. Only if we concentrate the level of sensitivity within us then it can change.

  • We cannot equate sensitivity of all life forms. Most animals that take care of their offsprings have higher sensitivity and love given by nature. Others have less sensitivity. To be sensitive to nature, is being evolved. To eat sensitive life forms when we have other options is being insensitive and disharmonious with nature and definitely not spiritual.

  • I love animals and plants; all living things actually to include plants.I do eat beef and poultry about thee to four times a month. However, I’ve begun to learn how intelligent and sensitive cattle are. How they too can become pets. Chickens have personalities and a societal order as well. I am having trouble eating any meat and poultry without guilt… However, in my awareness of the evolution of humans I’ve been under the impressing that it was when humans began consuming meat (protein) regularly the intelligence of humans increased at warp speed in the grand scheme of time. Humans need proteins and a vegetarian diet provides little protein.

  • Lmao, his argument about how eating plants is also cruel is extremely dumb. First of all: eating plants is NOT cruel. For example, fruits, nuts and certain roots want to be eaten; they have literally evolved to be as delicious as possible so that their seeds are spread through the droppings of the animals that eat them. Secondly: Say that plants do feel pain and eating them is cruel, then eating meat becomes even more cruel: producing 1kg of beef requires 10 to 100 kg in plants…

  • Two years ago I had a thought ” if aliens ate humans would it be ok? Why not they are more intelligent than humans, so intelligent that to them humans are not intelligent life, humans build things but so do ants, and birds, well what if they only ate humans that they’ve taken and raised for the purpose of slaughter, no wild human but farm fresh free range humans on an pasture that they can roam around a bit” my answer was No. I haven’t eaten any “beings” since then.

  • dont think much more to remove test about non veg …….. once you remove spices then try to eat non-veg without any test …… you will understand why “i m eating non veg?” then you will think same difference between veg & non veg food ….. you can understand nothing in non -veg without test of spices ….. you can use same spices in veg food then try ….. you also like test of vegetarian food ….. in a way you talk about non veg …..its a matter about spiciness of spices ….no test of meat without spices so you r interested in spices test not in meat test

  • 1:35 If you pluck a fruit from a tree, the tree will not die, on the contrary, it grows the fruit itself so that you can eat it. And on this occasion, the tree cannot feel pain in any way. So are vegetables, if you pull a vegetable out of the ground, then you can just plant its seeds and it will germinate again (after all, the vegetable itself gave this opportunity so that we could plant it in the ground again). Can you do the same with an animal?
