When Is The Best Time To Complete Homework?

Homework is an essential component of academic success, as it promotes curiosity, self-directed learning, and allows students to revise what they learn in class. Studies have shown that take-home assignments are effective at improving academic achievement, with 64 in one meta-study and 72 in another. Homework is not just a mundane task; it’s a secret that can boost study habits and lead to academic success.

However, homework has its pros and cons, especially for college students. It enhances critical thinking, time management, and learning but also brings stress. The “10-minute rule” recommends a daily maximum of 10 minutes of homework per grade level. A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows that students actually learn more through traditional lectures than through traditional lectures.

To ensure homework has meaning and students appreciate its benefits, there are multiple strategies to implement. The best time for effective studying is either before dinner or as early as the child can tolerate. The best time for effective studying is usually between 5AM to 10 AM and 5PM to 9 PM. Some middle school and high school students might score higher on achievement tests when they do homework.

Key points to consider when setting homework tasks include setting shorter, more frequent tasks rather than long tasks less often. Set homework tasks that call upon specific skills and activities. Homework can also be conditioning students to expect some of their non-school time to be taken up with extra schoolwork.

In conclusion, homework is a crucial aspect of academic success, but it can also bring stress and challenges. To ensure students appreciate the benefits of homework, it is essential to set shorter, more frequent tasks and avoid conditioning them to expect extra schoolwork.

What is the best time to study?

Scientists suggest that the brain is most alert and teachable between 10 am-2 pm and 4 pm-10 pm. To optimize attention span and practice deep learning, it is recommended to study between 4 am and 7 am. This period is best for deep focus and is popular among students worldwide.

In middle and high school, there are greater benefits from practicing and thinking about school work, which do not depend as much on immediate supervision or feedback as elementary students. In high school, students should receive four to five sets of homework per week, taking between 75 and 150 minutes per set to complete.

As children progress through school, homework and its amount become more important, with more homework assigned in college preparatory classes and special education and vocational training classes. However, many students unsuccessful or struggling in school spend less time engaged in homework, potentially leading to less consistent academic performance. Some American educators have concluded that if students in America spent as much time doing homework as students in Asian countries, they might perform academically as well.

Is it better to do homework at night or in the morning?

Is it better to do homework in the morning or evening?

The author suggests setting an alarm for early mornings, aiming for 3 a. m. to 4 a. m., as a study at Penn State found that cognitive function is impaired by nightfall. This early wake-up time is healthier and more productive than late nights, as the brain is already active during the day. Distractions decrease exponentially, and the subconscious is not awake enough to be distracted by notifications from the night before. The illusion of being the only person awake makes it harder to get distracted.

Wake-up early also comes with intrinsic motivation, pushing individuals to stay productive. They use the time more efficiently than if they stayed up until 2 a. m., as uninterrupted work is nearly impossible past midnight due to power naps and FaceTimes.

  • This might help some students – The article provides several study and productivity tips to help improve the efficiency of studying and retain information. Here’s a summary of the important points and tips: Studying Answers First (Step 1): To quickly understand and summarize a topic, compile all the questions at the end of each topic and write down the answers. This approach is particularly effective for factual and process-based subjects like biology or history. Learning the Basics (Step 2): Before moving on to more complex topics, ensure a strong foundation by revising and understanding the basics. Read through subtopics, learning objectives, and illustrations of previous topics. Reading with Focus (Step 3): When studying subjects with a lot of text, such as biology or history, pick one element to focus on, like circling keywords or verbs. This keeps you actively engaged in the material. Writing Down Questions (Step 4): Avoid distractions and time wastage by writing down questions you have while studying. Address these questions after completing your study session and write the questions and answers in a notebook for future reference. Time Management (Step 5): Divide your study time into two-thirds for applying knowledge and one-third for learning. For example, if you want to study for three hours, spend two hours applying knowledge and one hour learning. Compiling Corrections (Bonus Tip): When practicing with past year questions, compile all your corrections into one notebook or digital tool like Notion.

  • Hi Faye!, Thank u for motivating me this semester I truly am thankful to you for my grades now because I’m truly an overthinker (September Virgo) and I love planning before time last semester I didn’t know where to start as I thought studying was only reading, memorizing and reading again. • Thank you for another wonderful article! I haven’t heard about these tips yet and since I’m preparing for an important biology contest I will definitely apply them to my study sessions. • Hi faye!! Thank you for always providing content that is unique and inspiring many people along the way. Your articles has always motivated me to try new ways to study more effectively. I’m generally an impatient learner who is always distracted by anything and everything 🤣😬 And merry christmas everyone!!🎄🌟

  • Guys, I have one more tip for you all. This may save tons of time flipping through your big ass file and looking for your mistakes…make an error book. Just take some foolscap paper, and each time you complete a practice paper or do any questions and you have wrong answers, write down the qs on the left and the correct answer on the right. I learned this too from a YTber called Peistudies. I’m currently a Secondary 1 student in SG in Express. Any fellow Secondary students here?

  • When preparing the answers to study first, you can use AI as a short cut to get your revision notes together. Obviously, you need to have read the textbook first and attended lectures, etc, but when preparing for an exam with not much time for revision, AI can put the answers concisely right in front of you and it’s then easier to learn in this concise format.

  • hi, as I study in India in an ib school, having my mid-terms in January you are a lifesaver. I got such bad grades in semester 1 since I wasn’t able to understand or study anything properly plus half of my life my teachers and parents have only taught me I am never able to self-study that is why I am so so so so so so grateful for this article and your website because tbh it has helped me a lot. The tips you give me are just the best thing that has ever happened to me thank you, thank you so so much. edit= I am patient when studying but when the process takes longer than expected I lose my cool.

  • Distraction, Procrastination, low self esteem is what stops me from being better, now its sorta too late, my igcse has already started im not prepared at all, but im gonna try my best and continue to find tips to improve, i may have to retake all if not some of the subjects in this exam. What ever it takes i will get my goal and go to college, I wont let my past mistakes define me.

  • I don’t really have it figured out if I’m patient or impatient while studying, because i tend to get soo overwhelmed when i have to study multiple subjects from multiple reference books. But then when my motivation and focus is high, i can easily sort through the topics from different texts and study them thoroughly.🙌🙌

  • Thank you faye ❤ You’re someone I can relate to. I’ve become much more productive since I started perusal your articles. Your tips are genuinely helpful. I have final exams in coming feb 2023 and literally wanted this article *unknowingly*. Sometimes I just start rushing and messing up everything I hope this helps. • Omg thanks so much Faye for this! This is so helpful especially for people like me 🤧 the answer for what you asked at the end, I think I’m quite impatient when studying cuz idk it feels illegal to study for long time periods 🤣🤣 but when I’m REALLY focused on a particular topic, I take everything slowly and try to understand every concept. This mostly happens on the time of exams 😅 Again tysm for this articleo 💞💞 and I don’t celebrate Christmas 🙂

  • hey fayee your study tips are only the ones that work for me certainly. I’ve been searching for study tips on other study tubers but nothing works for me. You motivate me a lot in my studies. I wish I could tell you personally how grateful I am. but THANK YOU!! One of the best Christmas gifts I’ve got.

  • Summary article: 1. Study the answers first (helps to understand the topic fast) 2. Have a good foundation and have a good basic (You can also use websites like “Brilliant” ) 3. To read fast and understand, you can highlight the key words or verbs. It keeps your reading more active. (reading out loud also helps) 4. Write down every questions you have and comme back to it later (don’t get stuck on one question and come back later to answer it) 5. Use most of your time practicing than learning 6. Compile all your corrections in one notebook or on notions 7. Before starting a new study session recap what you have learned before 8. Use the revision technique: Blurting

  • You just uploaded what I needed the MOST rn and I ain’t even kidding like I was an avg learner sort of but long story short My mental health just destroyed me from every corner of my life like completely and now I am a super slow learner with horrible attention span and my important exams are starting from February I have 0 preparation So I WANT YOU TO TYSM I JUST REALLY HOPE IT WORKS FOR ME♡ TYSM 💝

And also, I really appreciate your hard work, you’re always looking out for us and honestly the way I study has really been changed through perusal your articles. • I completely agree with the basic points. I’m in college rn, and i have french as a subject. I have never had french as a subject before so ofcourse i had no idea what’s going on. So i had to go back to all the yt articles that taught simple grammar, alphabet, pronounciation, etc. The first two exams, I didn’t score well caz of my basics being unclear. But in the last exam, I scored well. Clearing your basics is very important guys. Without basics, you cannot understand anything literally . Thank you faye🫶🏻😭

  • I am really impatient while studying (depending on the subject) and crave to do other activities but I am trying to improve on that 👍👍 TYSM for being a lifesaver and a true inspiration bestie! 🥰💐. I have an upcoming exam next week and I can use all the help possible. article Suggestions ➡ -How to study when you have no mood to study at all! -Study with Me.

  • Hello Faye! I am absolutely in love with your website and I’m so happy I’ve discovered it. Your articles always get me motivated, I was binge-watching your articles during summer vacation. I am patient when studying when I start and get into the study vibe. But I’m a huge procrastinator. Do you have a few tips so that I can stop procrastinating? I know you have a article about that but I don’t know HOW to start. I always say to myself: Start studying, but I never do. So do you have some tips, or could you maybe make a article about that? Merry Christmas to you Faye

  • I’m usually a mix of both because sometimes, I have all the patience in the world and that’s when I read the chapter ( for a LONG time) and then I do questions. This is however, not as effective as when I’m impatient and I study my textbooks and notes simultaneously in 20 minutes and then resort to questions.

  • Thank you, you are such a live saver like i have Seen so many articles but they dont work actually, but with your tips i have like aced my exams, I feel like recommending your articles to every person struggling with their studies. I cannot thank you more i feel cause thank you is not enough for these tips which you share as most people don’t shre the real tips. Lots of love from me 😊😊❤❤

  • Hi Faye, Firstly merry Christmas to you For me it is like mostly I am impatient during Study… Please can you make a article on How to stop addiction of YouTube Shorts. Like if I have to watch any important short then it take hours spending on shorts and end up cursing myself for wasting the amount of Time…

  • Main points of this article: 1.study the answers first 2.understand basics, read subtopics, learning objectives, illustration/pictures/diagram 3.reading a lot of text, focus on one thing 4.when studying write down all your questions first 5.divide your study time into three learning applying (practicing) 6.Compile all your corrections 7.Recap before studying new chapter.

  • For me, it’s takes me very long time to start the new lesson and actually know the value…once I catch it I learn the other lessons related to that very quickly. Once I properly understand a thing it will be stuck in my mind always. But the fact that sometimes uncommon lesson and things I don’t have enough introduction and knowledge about takes me forever to understand and sometimes that creates a lot of problems to my exams and so on. I’m really patient about learning but it’s frustrating when I get things wrong eventho I know the lesson very well.

  • Your articles have always been helpful and I’m grateful for your sincere efforts to help us. I have a problem/issue with studies that i don’t know how to tackle… How do you study when you can learn better when someone teaches you or supervises you but not every time will there be someone to teach you and help you? It’s very hard for me to focus and i end up not studying and wasting time. It would be great if you can come up with a solution for this. Anyways love you Faye 💞✨

  • Merry Christmas Faye! I recently discovered your website. Unfortunately after I finished my finals but I’m definitely going to use your tips next semester. May I ask if you have any tips regarding making the large mindmap that you mentioned at the end? I LOVE mindmaps but have always struggled with making my own one. Thanks bestie ❤️
