Over 40% of parents of elementary- and middle-school children in the US would not get their children vaccinated against COVID, or would do so only if it were required. A new survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation indicates that 43 of parents of children under 5 in the US say they will not get their child vaccinated. If a vaccine were approved for those under 12 years, 45 percent of parents would not have their children vaccinated.
Several studies have examined the reasons why parents refuse, delay, or are hesitant to vaccinate their children. In one study, 577 of parents reported having concerns about one or more childhood vaccinations. The Kaiser Family Foundation found that 25-30% of parents with younger children would “definitely not” get them vaccinated.
The largest gap in vaccine acceptance is between parents and non-parents earning less than $75,000 per year. A Gallup poll found that parents and non-parents earning less than $75,000 per year have the largest gap. In 2009, approximately 60.2 of parents with children aged 24-35 months neither delayed nor refused vaccines, 25.8 only delayed, 8.2 only refused, and 5.8.
A small proportion of the population – only 1 of children born in 2019 or 2020 hadn’t received any vaccines by their second birthday. Overall, 71 of parents with children younger than 5 were uncertain or reluctant about vaccinating their child. The overall national exemption rate for vaccines increased to 3, with 10 states having over 10 of incoming kindergartengartners with vaccines. Among parents, opposition to requiring childhood vaccines now stands at 35, up from 23 in 2019. Most parents were happy with the safety of vaccines for babies and young children, a reduction from the 2022 survey.

Why do some parents reject vaccines, despite evidence that they’ve helped generations of children stay healthy?
Should your kids get vaccinated?
Vaccinations are crucial for children and the community as they provide immunity against harmful diseases like hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and polio. All vaccines are extensively tested and approved by the CDC. Research at CHOP and worldwide has proven that vaccines are safe and effective. The more people receive a specific vaccine, the greater the likelihood of developing “herd immunity”, protecting everyone in the community, even medically vulnerable individuals. A typical vaccination schedule includes recommended vaccines for different age groups, and most schools, daycares, and colleges require proof of immunizations.
Can a child survive without vaccines?
Parents often delay vaccinations due to various reasons, such as fear of a child cries or the child being too young. However, the most important fact is that a child’s immune system is more vulnerable without vaccinations, and without them, many children could become seriously ill or even die from diseases like measles, mumps, and whooping cough. In an increasingly global world, with increased risks around every corner, travelers entering New York create an even greater risk of exposure.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports outbreaks around the world and provides health information for travel to more than 200 international destinations. Diseases once thought to be eradicated are coming back due to people not being vaccinated as they once were. Misinformation in the media, such as false claims about autism or Dr. Bob’s Alternative Schedule, has led many parents to delay vaccinations. To prevent your child from becoming a statistic, ensure they get all the recommended vaccinations.
What are the risks of vaccines?
Vaccines have the potential to elicit adverse reactions, including redness, soreness, fever, and allergic reactions, which are the most commonly observed.
Why some children are not Immunised?
Children who cannot be immunized due to medical reasons, are too young, missed appointments, or have parents who choose not to be vaccinated may not always be protected. Early years providers should not refuse to offer a place to a child who has not been vaccinated. Parents should be encouraged to have their child immunized to protect their health and that of other children in the setting. Parents concerned about their child’s vaccination status should talk to their health visitor or GP. It is crucial to know the vaccination status of every child in the setting, as this information will be crucial in case of a serious disease incident.
Can I refuse to vaccinate my child in California?
California’s vaccination requirements for school-going children vary across jurisdictions, with exemptions for children with special medical conditions or religious beliefs. In California, students are only exempted for medical purposes, as effective immunizations provide indirect protection for those not effective or safe. However, some parents have worked around this requirement by having their doctors sign-off on illegitimate medical claims for exemptions.
SB 276 was introduced to allow the California Department of Public Health to crack down on fraudulent medical exemptions by requiring physicians to verify their statements under the penalty of perjury. California’s child neglect laws create civil and criminal liability for parents who unjustifiably put their children at risk of serious harm. Criminal prosecutions for child endangerment are reserved for severe cases where parents harmed or seriously risked their child’s health and safety.
What happens if a baby doesn’t have jabs?
Delaying or refusing vaccines can pose significant health risks to both the child and others. People with weakened immune systems, those with chronic medical conditions, newborn babies, and the elderly are most at risk. Communities rely on high immunization rates to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases from spreading. The more parents choose not to vaccinate their children, the greater the risk of infection in the community. To protect others, follow these steps:
- Get vaccinated: Get vaccinated by a licensed health professional.
- Get vaccinated by the age of 18.
Who if you choose not to vaccinate your child?
It is recommended that parents consult with their child’s physician to ascertain the criteria for determining when the child is no longer at risk of contracting the disease. It should be noted that not vaccinating not only places the child at risk but also has the potential to impact the broader community.
What is the risk of unvaccinated children?
It is a well-established fact that unvaccinated children can transmit vaccine-preventable diseases in schools and communities. This can result in infection of babies who are too young to be fully immunized and people of any age who are unable to be immunized due to medical reasons.
What countries don’t vaccinate children?
The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF have reported that North Korea, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, the Central African Republic, and Sudan have the highest proportion of children not vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. North Korea and Papua New Guinea have vaccination rates of 41 and 45 percent, respectively. The WHO states that over half of unvaccinated children live in 31 countries currently in a fragile, conflict, or vulnerability situation, where populations are particularly exposed to preventable diseases due to disruptions in and lack of access to health services.
What if I refuse to vaccinate my child in the UK?
In the United Kingdom, vaccination is not a mandatory procedure and requires parental consent. Nevertheless, they are of paramount importance for safeguarding your child against significant health complications over an extended period. In the absence of vaccination, there is an increased likelihood of contracting the aforementioned illnesses. It is of the utmost importance to comprehend the significance of vaccination in order to ensure the safety of oneself and one’s family.
How many babies don t get vaccinated?
In 2023, 14. 5 million children worldwide were missing out on vaccinations, with a third dose of the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTP3) vaccine being the most common. The proportion of children receiving a first dose of measles vaccine was 83, well below the 2019 level of 86. Global coverage for the first dose of HPV vaccine in girls grew from 20 in 2022 to 27 in 2023. Yellow fever vaccine coverage in countries at risk is 50, well below the recommended 80.
The COVID-19 pandemic and vaccination efforts strained health systems in 2020 and 2021, resulting in setbacks. Data from 2023 shows that performance has not returned to 2019 levels. Low-income countries are lagging behind in vaccination coverage.
📹 Growing number of parents refusing vaccinations
Health officials are alarmed at the growing number of parents who are opting not to vaccinate their children, saying there is a risk …
Un-vaccinated kids cannot spread a disease they don’t have, and these antiquated diseases would have been extinct by now if they weren’t incubated in human bodies and shed to everyone around them. Anti-vaxx parents were once pro-vaxx parents, and the reasons they changed their minds are heartbreaking.
I’m extremely saddened by this comment section. Vaccines ARE necessary for developing children. Vaccinations provide support for building a strong immune system capable of fighting off otherwise fatal illnesses. While I agree that eating a nutritional diet is beneficial for a child, it won’t stop them from getting polio. The common concern brought upon by vaccines is the false notion that they can cause autism. While the rate has increased in the past 20 years, it has nothing to do with vaccines. I would like to thank all parents who give their children the fundamental building blocks to live a long, healthy life. To those who don’t, I respect your decision even if it does not coincide with my views or reasonings. EDIT: To anyone on the fence about this issue, I implore you to talk to a TRAINED and TRUSTED doctor instead of a youtube article to get accurate information to make an informed decision. 💕
Thankfully people are finally becoming aware of all the risks associated with vaccines. Many times vaccines aren’t effective either, so why take that risk on non-deadly common childhood illnesses. Natural immunity is always best and has other great health benefits. These ever increasing multiple vaccine schedules have hardly met the test of time.
I’m vaccinated and there is nothing wrong with me and there never has been. I’m 28 and have always been vaccinated. So has my brother and there is nothing wrong with him either. I’ve worked with hundreds of children in day care settings etc who have all been vaccinated and have never known one child to be harmed by a vaccine. Every single adult I know was also vaccinated as a child and none of them have ever had a “vaccine injury” or nothing more serious than a rash that goes away within a few hours. I’m sorry if you or your child has autism or has any kind of sickness or disability but I’m telling you, it has nothing to do with their vaccinations and if by CHANCE their autism or other sickness or disability started after being vaccinated then that is purely coincidence. My cousin is autistic, up until the age of 2 she was unvaccinated and it was right around the age of a year and a half that she very quickly started showing signs of autism (she changed completely within the space of about 3/4 days) she was still unvaccinated at this point. She received her first vaccination at the age of three years and has been vaccinated ever since and it has not done her any harm just as it has not done anybody else any harm.
once almost choked to death while eating food. I did my own research and discovered that I am not alone. Thousands of people choke every year while eating, and hundreds of those people die. That’s why I don’t feed my kids. It’s dangerous. Now plenty of people will point out that food supposedly “prevents starvation,” and that might be true, but it’s not fair to completely ignore all the dangers food poses, like choking, allergies, gingivitis, and garlic breath. I’m just saying, do your own research and decide what you think is best for your kids. If you choose to give your kids potentially deadly food, that’s your problem, but as a parent, I don’t think the government has any right to tell me that I need to feed my kids.
Where are those kids, then? In today’s day and age where are those kids? Why are there currently big hospitals specifically dedicated to children who have major diseases or illnesses or viruses etc., some, if not most of which were in fact vaccinated? What about viral shedding? What about vaccination shedding? What about the children and adults who still get the flu or other diseases even though they’ve been vaccinated for it? If a medical treatment of any kind has a known side effect of death, then it should never be mandated and mandated does not mean it’s an established law.
After being victim of vaccine accident details not going into. I think people need to space vaccines out so can watch kid for adverse reaction. Yes means more doctors trips when little but better then then getting 2 at once that the instructions say shouldn’t be given at same time yes a lot of drs do this.
Another problem with not inoculating your children is, you can put other more vulnerable children at risk. Children who have Immune deficiencies. Children with cancer and other conditions can’t be immunized until they are fully recovered. Okay, so otherwise healthy little Freddie gets rubella he will get over it, in fact he’s not that sick so mum takes him out to the park. There’s another child there who is presently being treated for cancer. Little Freddie goes up and talks to this child, the child catches rubella which he can’t fight and dies.
My uncle was a healthy baby in 1960s untill he got his polio vaccine. His life was screwed forever, he worked at a plant and never got married. Thankfully the government granted him a nice apartment. That was in Soviet Union. Yes, people with special needs were getting free housing from the Soviet Union gov. I doubt it is the case here in “free” capitalist world.
I got measels as a child. As a complication of measles I got meningitis. As a complication of meningitis I’m partially deaf and have memory problems. If I’d been inoculated against measles I would of retained my hearing and my memory. My mum has to live with the guilt of making the choice not to have me inoculated.
When Little Timmy went to school, And mastered 1 to 9, He thought that every kid was cool And every class divine. He painted shapes in red and blue, And drew in curves and bends- And by the time the day was through, He’d made a hundred friends! “I’m pals with Pete, and Mike, and Max!” He told he pa with pride. But Timmy’s folks were anti-vax And Timmy freaking died. ( yes this is unoriginal. Credit to Oz Media )
When your child gets sick, you will return to that medical business. And the possible lawsuits from others who were around your child and got sick,. She will be asking you why you allowed her to get sick, and your two other daughters will thank you for protecting them. By your ignorance, you put your youngest, and those around her at risk. Will you be able to live with yourself then?
