In short, yes he should be banned and, if this is a pattern of behavior that has gone unimproved (I have no idea yes or no but needs investigation) then the coaches should also receive scrutiny. Whatever happens make it public as a follow up so, hopefully, this will not encourage similar behavior from others.

This is disturbing. The kid in blue went from simply the 1 who didn’t win the match – there could be only 1 – to easily the most embarrassingly sore loser, probably in the league’s history. If he’s not embarrassed by his own actions when the adrenaline subsided then I think we may have just witnessed a young sociopath in action. Get him in therapy now before society pays the price.
I do not condone this behaviour, but people don’t understand that when u fight competitively, the adrenaline really kicks and and your survival instincts activate, anyone who knows about these situations will know that you get frustrated at the smallest things and if not handled properly can lead to attacks like this. I assure you the kid regretted it, but when you’re in battle mode, u are in a completely different state of mind. When you lose, you’re tested to try to do better, to try to work harder and if it doesn’t work out, it could teach you to move on—not to punch somebody’s face!
I was a successful wrestler and I have received technical fouls from losing my control. Never have I witnessed such a mean gesture from a competitor. That child is obviously dangerous and needs to be under strict supervision. Hopefully the parents are able to address this and get the help this child needs. I saw a kid do this one in high school he lived next door to me. His father trained him in MMA. He beat him for real that night. This happened in the UFC. A few years ago, a fighter named Paul Daley sucker punched Josh Koscheck in the face after their match. Josh was however ridiculing Paul however that was no excuse for a sucker punch. Dana banned him for LIFE from the UFC. And every time I see it I read the comments and feel the need to share my own comment. On youtube all i watch is wrestling. Youth, high-school, college, training articles. We have 2 kids who wrestle, 11 and 13. My son has wrestled since he was 7 and my daughter just started at 11. We are a wrestling family and all in in the sport. My son wrestles for 2 clubs plus school and he does camps year round. Our son is humble in his mostly wins, but also in the few losses he has taken. He is a leader amongst his peers, both on and off of the mat. I know that parents can only do so much, but we have taught him to respect his opponents, and the sport. And he does. With all that said, my take on this kid is this: he made a terrible decision and should be punished. But to take away from him the best sport in the world at teaching kids to be men is crazy. Suspend him for a year, send him to an anger management class, and let his coaches put the fear of God in him at practice. What you would see on the other side would be a better person. I know a lot of people are thinking, but what if that was your kid who got punched? Well I’m sure I might feel differently had that been my kid, but since it wasn’t I can have a level headed idea about what his punishment should be. You wonder what his coach teaches. This uncontrolled aggression must have been noticed before. I honestly believe that he was encouraged to hurt others. That type of aggression is taught. Shame on the coaches and especially the parents! Wrestling is by far the most physically demanding and difficult sport to handle. But fundamentally the most disciplined. I’m the successful person who owes the best part of my achievements to this sport.

Who wants to show good sportsmanship when the last time you tried to someone sucker punched you before you even realized what was going on? I have a crazy 1. A independent wrestling organization. My wife and I decided since the wrestling organization was coming to a town near us, why not go. Well we wish we didn’t. All the matches were good, including the 2 promos- 1 of a wrestler returning from a near fatal car accident that he wasn’t involved in but saved a woman’s life by getting her out and broke his arm in the process. He gave a article message explaining his progress and the other was a promo for the next card wherever it would be. My wife and were enjoying it. Well the main event was supposed to be a iron man match. The men’s heavyweight championship and women’s heavyweight championship. A husband and wife were the champions. Going against a #1 contender and a woman he picked as his partner. Well the ref goes to ring the bell. But the match didn’t start. A woman jumped over the barrier, 3 police officers with her. She confronts the #1 contender. Apparently he sexually assaulted her daughter and attempted to end the daughter. She had proof with her. He got arrested and attempted to resist but that didn’t go well. The owner of the company came out, apologized, and he asked all the wrestlers to come out. At least 35 wrestlers were there. Men and women. The heavyweight champion says on microphone: Well we had a iron man match scheduled but hey, we still can have both titles on the line. Over the top rope battle royal. All of us in the ring. Last man in is the men’s champion and same with the women. Some of the wrestlers took the microphone and apologized to the crowd for the actions of the ” wrestler ” It was clear they didn’t know that jerk did it and he’s hopefully in jail.
I don’t know this child’s story. No doubt this was wrong. I’m a law abiding citizen and I had great parents. I did some really stupid things when I was young and turned it all around later in life. I had some harsh consequences for my actions and without those consequences I think I would be dead or in prison. Please send positive thoughts to this boy along with consequences that fit and classes that show this does not define his life. This may be his last chance to change his path. Only he can make a choice of what he does next.

dunno this is a violent sport that is related to fighting. It was to be expected that like Boxing, it would draw at least some criminal and antisocial elements from ethnic minority backgrounds in right?
