Leggings are a popular form of pants that have been popular since the 1960s, offering both comfort and style. They are high-waist, stretchy fabric, and can be worn with various outfits, such as a denim jacket, white striped shirt, black leggings, ballet flats, sportsy, or boho. Some ways to style leggings include wearing an oversized tee and sandals in the summer, tucking leggings inside boots paired with a cashmere duster in the fall, and pairing leather leggings with a silk blouse.
A statement peplum top creates volume, making leggings highly covetable. Leggings outfits offer both comfort and style, making them highly fashionable. To create an on-trend look when pairing a denim shirt with leggings, consider pairing a quilted jacket and clogs. A cloud coat and clogs are another way to create an effortless look.
To wear a denim shirt with leggings, simply throw a denim shirt on top of a white tee. If your denim shirt is long enough, you can wear it buttoned up by itself with leggings. Pairing fitted jeggings with a tight or fitted top can appear quite jarring, but a flowy top that skims the body looks better and helps balance your overall look.
Patti Burnett’s board “Jeans leggings outfits” on Pinterest features ideas for outfits, styles, and how to wear. They recommend pairing them with long skirts, tights, or leggings underneath them. The best color for a black, dark blue, Khaki, or maroon jegging is Style and Co. from Macy’s.
Denim leggings can be paired with t-shirts, slouchy sweaters, hoodies, linen tunics, and plain-colored button-down shirts. They can also be worn under dressy tops or tunics. Overall, leggings are versatile and comfortable, making them a must-have for any wardrobe.

Hi Angela! I was so excited to see that you featured my shirt extenders here in your article. I created my small business in 2015 and have had many people, especially foreign companies rip me off by stealing my pictures and articles. I’ve had multiple friends reach out and say they saw my extender pictures featured here in your article. I would love if you would direct link them and would be happy to set you up as an affiliate. I believe everyone needs these in their lives. ♥️
The shirt extenders make me smile because those were popular during the early-2000s when low-rise trousers were the prevailing cut. Women who weren’t comfortable wearing a low-rise cut wore the shirt extenders to cover the low-rise cut and prevent unintentional “plumber’s crack” that happens with low-rise.
I’m 63, tall & of normal weight. I just discovered Lularoe leggings purchased at a thrift store. I have about 5 w/colorful patterns I wear now all winter long with sweaters, boots & fleecewear. I went from a career wearing formal office attire to being a retiree wearing comfortable clothing. LOVE the neon shirt!
Thanks for the tips. I’m 67 but I still find your article helpful. I like tunics, long shirts over leggings. I just don’t like myself in shorter tops even though I see younger women doing this all the time. I feel naked. lol But I have noticed that it’s getting harder to find the longer tops. I keep looking in thrift stores and ebay. As far as extenders, I do have a few flowy tank tops I can wear under other shorter tops.
I’m not sophisticated enough to use the shirt extender or the silicon cinch maker, my shirt extender would end up too low and look like a shirt, but my booty would be out, and I’d loose that cinch thingy as soon as I sat down and didn’t make sure not to pull on it. Remember those round plastic devices that had a bar across the middle, kind of looked like 🚫 and we took the edge of our T shirt, and threaded int thru the back, over the middle piece, then pushed it back thru to the back again. I liked those because it cinched up one corner to give the waist some lift.
I just subscribed! I’m 68, 4’ 9″, and 100 lbs. I’ve been sick for 20 years with BII (breast implant illness), mold toxicity, a mini stroke that left me extremely fatigued all day, every day, infections from my weakened immune system, latent infections that resurfaced, lots of autoimmune diseases, 4 surgeries within 10 months, and now I was just diagnosed with Lyme co-infections, and have a poorly healing broken shoulder. I’m so sick of looking pasty, and I want a life! These suggestions are quite good, and I think I’m going to try the cinch and the cami tunic. I need one with a padded bra in it because my left breast was disfigured in a car accident two weeks post-op after my explant surgery. But, overall, I got some good tips from you. Thank you. 💕
Oh my goodness!! Thank you! I literally thought just yesterday I need something to help cinch up a tunic I had bought. My mind went back to those circular plastic rings my sister had in the late 80s early 90s that cinched up t-shirts. I literally thought surely someone’s improved upon that. And you found it!! The timing couldn’t have been better! Thanks, Angela! Blessings to you and yours, Crystal
Congratulations on the 75,000 mile stone. Since I just recently subbed. I am proud to be part of the process helping you to get there. Way to go. I was fascinated by these shirt extenders, so to say. I never knew they existed. Thank you. I have search online & can’t find anything that can be slipped-on under or over pant legs, at knee-high distance from the bottom of the pant leg to add a few inches of length to jeans/pants. I found waiste extenders galore, but I’d rather come at the situation from the bottom. Please, let me know if you come across any. For now, I guess I’ll continue making my own. My hands don’t work so well with all the sewing needed, though. Thank you. Take care.
This is the first of your articles that I’ve seen, and I love it! I’m going to get a couple of the shirt extenders and give them a try. There’s one thing that I wish you’d address, though. I’m short and somewhat overweight. So many times the “hide your extra weight” problem isn’t addressed. You are so talented, I wish you’d help us with that. By the way, I’m 71.
I’m new. I’m 52. And I’m 5 ft 2. I’ve lost inches lately. I just started wearing leggings in December. I’ve gone from a size 3 x to a 1 x. I just ordered my first pair of jeans since I was 18. I like the red shirt you have on. I thought you were supposed to tuck shirts in your pants and leggings. Or do a French tuck. I love the black and white shirt extensioner.
I love the tunic cami. Those are adorable. And the long shirt thing. I have never seen anything like that. But those are something I need. I like to wear leggings in the winter. Once summer hits, I’m wearing Bermuda shorts. Wether they are in style or not. My legs aren’t the best so I feel more comfortable in the longer shorts. I’m 63 and I don’t need to be wearing short shorts.
I got shirt extenders recently! I prefer to wear tunic tops because of my belly, and leggings balance me out down below. But not all my shirts are tunic length so…. shirt extenders! it’s such a current look! I seriously need more colors. Thanks for all these suggestions because if I’m supposed to stop wearing capris (lol) I’m going to have to lean into styling the leggings for my apple body type.
When I was 17 years old, Mommy told me that I was too old to wear leggings and needed to start dressing and acting like an adult. When I was 21 years old, she told me that leggings are only for 2-year-olds who can’t keep their diapers in place. When I asked her if I could wear little shorts under a super short dress, she said, “ladies don’t wear little shorts under their dresses. Ladies don’t wear leggings.” She has been like this ever since I was little. She told me that ladies don’t wear certain things. When I was a newborn baby, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear bows. When I was 4 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear smocked dresses. When I was 6 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear gingham. When I was 9 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear dresses to church. When I was 11 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear dresses, skirts, or blouses, to school. She also told me that ladies don’t wear white pantyhose. When I was 14 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear pink dresses. When I was 15 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear flat shoes and pink shoes. When I was 16 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear headbands. When I was 17 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear leggings. When I was 18 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear onesies. When I was 20 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear floral dresses. When I was 21 years old, Mommy told me that ladies don’t wear flat shoes and unicorn shirts.

Leggings: there are 3 rules: If you don’t have the legs and bum for them, ignore them. If you don’t want to look like someone on their last legs (lol), pretend they don’t exist. If you want to stand out from the mainstreamers, ignore them, even the black ones. If you must, wear them for gardening, workouts and – to bed (if you don’t share your bed for things other than sleep.) LOL
OMG I’m not even halfway through and you have just CHANGED MY LIFE!!! 🎉 🥳 👏🏽 I’m 55yrs old and 6’1″ and was actually searching how to make my own leggins because I can’t get them long enough. This article came up. It’s even BETTER. These tips are actually great tips for tall women. I have to buy oversized tunics and tops just to get the length so that first thingy-me-bob will be a perfect solution. I need to share this on the TALL GIRL groups. THANK YOU 🙏🏽
I am a professional make up artist of 40 years. You are a good presenter BUT: Your make-up looks very patchy. It is not flattering to any older woman to use shiny make up alll over your face. It is best used on where the light falls: tops of cheek bones :centre of nose and tip of chin on a round face.
