To achieve a minimalist dorm room, declutter thoroughly before decorating. This is the essence of minimalism. Rearrange the room, use unused vertical space, use wall-safe wall art, coordinate bedding, use baskets, hang soothing art pieces, choose a few favorite colors, place beauty items on trays, stash extra belongings under your bed, and keep basic bedding.

Choose a neutral color palette or 1-3 colors for your dorm theme, personalize your space with simple decor, and utilize vertical space. Personalize your space with simple dorm decor, swap shelves for photo rails or magnets, and make decluttering a habit before moving in.

Buy furniture with a minimalist look and hide all personal belongings. Dorm room decor can include posters, string lights, cozy bedding, wall art, rugs, and throw pillows. By following these easy-to-follow tips, you can create a minimalist dorm room that feels organized, clean, cozy, and at home.

A white slipcovered sofa, faded vintage-style area rug, and natural wood coffee table create a calm, elegant look. A triptych of modern art prints can elevate the space with a chic picture light. To avoid monotony, natural textures like wood, leather, and jute accents can be used to create an inviting, earthy quality. • I love everything you did with the room, the only thing I would have done differently is the chalk board calendar on the closet, since they are both artsy/musical i would have just covered the entire surface of the closet doors with the chalk board material, that way they can write notes, or draw on it as well. But over all what a well done make over! Good job girls! <3

  • OH MY GOODNESS!!! You did such a great job on this room makeover 👍😘 I like the way you rearranged the room to make the most of the space while also having a functional flow to it. Please do a room in my place that we’re going to hopefully be getting in the new year 🤗 maybe a getting ready/making YouTube articles room?

  • I was a little sceptical at first, but those finishing touches in the end really pulled the thing together. Although sharing a small room with someone who isn’t your s.o. as an adult sounds like a form of torture to me 😁. I’m so glad I never had to do that. Is it the norm in Canada for two students to have to share?

  • My dorm mate/best friend since kinder Emily and I are at Emerson College and we are in the piano suite so we have one dorm with three rooms. She and I love Panic! At the Disco and a lot of the same other stuff but the rest, Kayla, Lexi, Becca, and Jill have different styles. Kayla likes a lot of Illuminati stuff (like me), but her dorm mate Lexi is very tomboyish and is going to military school next year. Becca is article game obsessed (again like me) but Jill is obsessed with candy and monochrome… I just had to say that.

  • Please bring this series back! I have seen the dorm I will be living in this year and it looks like a ran down nursing home:( The carpets are as thin as paper and have creases present from moving heavy furniture, the bathroom sink and walls are eww, and space is limited. I am going to need some ideas!!!

  • So creative! My favorite corner was the piano, fluffy bench, hydrangea, artwork, calendar wall Oh, and I love how you lined the open baskets with brown butcher paper to hide the clutter! I bought three similar to those and placed them in our bathroom… and I don’t like them anymore… too cluttery looking…. going to try that…. cheap fix😄 ( I bought my baskets at dollar general) Love the articles!

  • WOW your room makeovers are always so amazing ♥️ I wish you could do my room because I share with my brother with a mixed wall design and I just don’t like this sand paper wall feeling. And it’s just so old but I live in Tokyo 😅 and in Japan some people sleep on the floor so I have no bed frame which is just hard for me 😒 but I love your vids 😍

  • That was honestly awesome! I’ve been needing inspiration lately- so we’re moving soon and I get to redecorate my room. Only one problem; I don’t know how! My room has a closet and I have my furniture. I just need decorations. I have a white full sized bed, white desk, white nightstand, white bookshelf and a fuzzy white spiny chair. I’m planning to have a few white fluffy accent pieces (I’m looking at some fluffy pillows to buy). If anyone can help out, thanks!

  • Hey ladies! My boyfriend and I live in a studio/one bedroom. It’s very open, little amount of doors. My problem with it is the bedroom, in the center of the apartment, has a wall facing the main windows that is only 2/3rds normal height. It’s supposed to let in natural light, but it really means my early riser boyfriend makes all the sounds just on the other side, with nothing to break up the noises. Help!

  • I wish my college dorm rooms were as big as these two lucky ladies, I don’t even care for the make over I just want the room size! My freshmen year my roommate and I only had 2 options of setting up our rooms, either make it non-spacious where no one could visit or have to worry about her bed falling down and killing me each night because who can really trust a metal bunk bed holder?

  • it’s beautiful but they forgot about being practical. The room is surely in odd layout. but. 1. there are drawers under the bed, having the Desk in between two bed, how are they going to use the drawer that have been blocked? 2. having a display table (dont know how to call it) at the end of the bed is fine but with the same height of the bed and you basically can’t put anything on the top. everything on the table can’t stay in place while sleeping. you know we pulled or kick off the blanket when we sleep. All in all .. It looks great. but it make everyday living more difficult.

  • I really want to redecorate my apartment and I want it in a minimalist kind of style but I don’t know how to start since I’m not really good when it comes to arts and stuffs like that. I know what I want but I just can’t picture it out! So frustrating ugh! Good thing I saw this article, thank you for giving me some amazing ideas! 🙂

  • One thing tad bit buggin me, that one bedroom by the window, it looks it has somekind of shelf underneath it, can the owner ( i dont know which and whats her name) still use it? Well, if its not a shelf and just another layer of bedding, just ignore this comment 😂. Room looks real great tho. I kinda wanna copy that wall rail and lamp kinda thing. 😂

  • i’m only 14 and live for right now in Moscow i speak 3 languages fluent,y (not important) but Russian is sot of hard for me but i can take it. lol. but anyways my mom is sending me to a school. not college. but school and i’m gonna live there for 1 year and i cant wait! to get away from fam and ill have a roommate and a room so it will be fin decorating. and i love your dorm rooms btw <3

  • Ugh my dorm was so tiny and ugly I couldn’t have pulled off anything like this lol. The walls had like ten layers of chipping paint and it came with drawers and desks but they were attached to the ground so we couldn’t move or rearrange anything and we had really ugly white tile floors. It was just a mess haha

  • Kelsey and Becky, i really like your articles and your Approach to bring out the best with an apartment. Maybe its just my thing but i interpret your “quirky” Situations (like where you decide how a word is spelled or what the specialist word for a certain Tool is -not in this article but generally speaking) just as uniformed and “City Girls like”. My tip would be to research the exact pronounciation ect and then just blend that in the article instead of the whole scene. I hope you understand what i mean, i really didnt mean it offensive 🌠

  • I added/changed some things: portable speaker/Google home/Alexa, essential oil diffuser, fairy lights, paper towels/ napkins, makeup remover, and sunscreen. This was an excellent list and covered most of what I’ll need!! I think maybe a few more cleaning supplies would be useful like a mini broom and dust pan as well as hand sanitizer…but honestly there’s not much else I can think of!

  • While command hooks/strips are helpful for hanging things, a lot of colleges use cheap paint on the walls that peels easily when removing the hooks/strips. Unless you know your walls are made of brick or concrete (in this case command hooks/strips are encouraged), I recommend using thumb tacks or some kind of mounting putty like blue-tac to hang things on walls. Thumbtack holes can be filled with bar soap or chalk at the end of the year.
