Methods For Escaping A Productivity Slump?

In order to break out of a productivity rut, it is essential to take risks, set small, attainable goals, acknowledge your feelings, identify the cause, set small, achievable goals, seek new experiences, and focus on self-care. To do this, create a prioritized to-do list and work through it systematically.

Building small habits such as exercising, drinking more water, and setting an alarm can help you break free from the mundane and shake things up. Acknowledge your feelings, move your body, try a brain dump, start somewhere, be conscious, improve exercise antics, engage in house cleaning, cultivate reading habits, and take baby steps.

To combat burnout, find a creative outlet and stay flexible. Re-evaluate your personal goals, realign them with the organization’s goals, and reconnect with your muse. Set a bedtime and wake-up time, vary departure and arrival times at the office, do some reps, and change your shoes.

In summary, taking risks, setting small, attainable goals, acknowledging feelings, identifying the cause, setting small, attainable goals, seeking new experiences, and focusing on self-care are all key steps to breaking free from a productivity rut. By taking small steps, shifting mindsets, taking baby steps, staying flexible, and re-examining personal goals, you can overcome any obstacles and live the life you want.

What is ADHD burnout?

ADHD burnout is a recurring pattern where stress leads to emotional exhaustion, which in turn leads to more stress. This cycle can impact overall well-being and daily task management. The stages of the cycle include high energy and commitment, overwhelm and overstimulation, unhealthy compensatory efforts, exhaustion and reduced productivity, recovery and guilt, and a restart with increased pressure.

High energy and commitment are initially associated with ADHD, leading to increased motivation and enthusiasm. Overwhelmedness and overstimulation can make it difficult to focus and process information. Unhealthy compensatory efforts may include overworking, neglecting self-care, punishing oneself, or pushing oneself to do more. Exhaustion and reduced productivity are common during this stage, leading to significant fatigue and a drop in energy and productivity. Recovery and guilt are common during this phase, where individuals often experience extreme feelings of guilt and self-criticism.

Recognizing the major symptoms of ADHD burnout is crucial for preventing it. The cycle will restart as energy regains, and feeling increased pressure to compensate for lost time and productivity in future cycles is not unusual.

What does an ADHD shutdown feel like?

ADHD shutdown, a response to intense stress, often results in a state of “freeze”, where individuals feel stuck and unable to proceed. This freeze response is particularly debilitating as it prevents individuals from addressing the stressors that cause the shutdown, leading to a cycle of inaction and increased anxiety. There are different types of ADHD shutdown, including emotional shutdown triggered by sensory overload, which can be triggered by irritability, withdrawal, or physical discomfort.

Managing sensory inputs can help regulate emotions and access executive functions. Loud noises or crowded places can trigger an intense need to escape, leading to a shutdown where individuals cannot think or act until they are quiet.

Productivity dysmorphia is a term coined by Anna Codrea-Rado to describe the inability to see one’s own success. This can lead to burnout, as nothing ever feels quite enough, and the pursuit of productivity can hinder the ability to savor any success along the way. The term is often used to describe the feeling of being unfulfilled in one’s job, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy and burnout.

How to get unstuck mentally?

Feeling stuck is a common human experience, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. To overcome this, it is essential to recognize that you are normal and that you are capable of feeling stuck. Spending time with positive people, working on important goals, and doing things that make you feel good can help you get unstuck.

Staying away from stress-causing activities can lead to missed opportunities and a negative mood spiral. For example, staying away from a test at school can prevent you from enjoying fun time with friends and learning that you can handle the stress.

However, the good news is that our brain can learn new tricks and adapt to new situations. Our bodies act differently, and our brain will start to think differently when our bodies act differently. By following these strategies, you can overcome the negative effects of staying away from stress and find happiness in the present moment.

  • as a college student, i just wanna say that it’s a suuuper scary thought at first but once you actually get to college, you kind of just come to a realization that everyone else there is in the same boat and you’re all experiencing the same feelings! it becomes less scarier after and at the end of the day, just make sure to still cherish your college years because it FLIES! as for your high school friends, the distance honestly kinda makes your friendship stronger and i still talk to a lot of my high school friends 🙂 i like to think of it as my circle is just expanding and i have a bigger support system by my side☺️

  • Nicole, I just want to say thank you! This past year I have been applying to high schools (yes it’s weird) and it was this really prestigious school as out of 450 people that apply, only 28 get in. during my interview, the teacher asked me who i would want to say thank you to (dead or alive). I said you 🙂 you have helped me through such tough times and i am so grateful for you. I just got the news that i got in (first round offers)! I really appreciate what you do for everyone perusal and in your life. so…THANK YOU!!!!!

  • One thing I love about you is that when you are having a hard time you talk/ post about it, you don’t just pretend like it didn’t happen and sometimes you just need to see/ hear that especially from social media. Anyway love you tons! I believe that you are now on spring break but I’m not positive about that. Again I love you! 🫶🌹

  • a reminder to all of you: there are still places you haven’t visited that you’ll love so mcuh, and people you haven’t met that will have a beautiful impact on your life whether by their presence in it or for the lessons they’ll give you, and moree, so be happy for where you’re going in life, even if it’s different directions, one day you’ll sit down and talk about the different experiences you had, so yeah, that’s that

  • Dear Nicole, thank you so much for always uploading. Even though I doubt you will ever see this, I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your articles. • Hey Nicole I wanted to say that I care about you! I’m very proud on how you are working hard to overcome some challenges while finding motivation. I’m always proud of you and you inspire me. I struggle to feel motivated when the world gets hard or when people get mean at me due to having autism including a learning disability. Always rooting for you

  • hi colie, i just wanted to say that im so thankful for you, ive been perusal you since the beginning and i feel that we’ve grown up together (im also a senior now), and you’ve truly blessed my life and perusal your articles has made me a better person (genuinely). this stressful season is almost over but we’ve got this, thank you for always being so honest and vulnerable with us. you’re an inspiration, we love youu thank you for everything <3

  • Hi Colie, I just want to say that I’m going into college this fall also and at first I was very stressed about it but I will tell you one thing that I had to learn through the process is that God has your back whatever happens happens he knows what he’s doing. Don’t stress about it because all you can do is wait for the acceptances and if you don’t get into your dream college, God always has a reason don’t stress you will do amazing. You worked hard throughout these years and it shows that’s all you can do is give it your best but don’t stress over something you can’t control. I love you girlie and I love you and your articles.

  • Gym tip here! I’ve been working with a trainer in the past couple months, and she was telling me for the cable kickbacks, to put one hand on the machine, bend your leg, and put the other hand on your lower back and not to kick back so high! Just kick back enough to where you feel the tightness in your glute and go back down again! That’ll help with glue gains without hurting your back at all! Even if it’s not hurting your back right now, it might later on! I was having the exact same issue, so I thought I would help <3

  • Literally so right on time!!! I’ve been feeling stuck and like I’m in a rut, especially with my new job post high-school, but this is so encouraging Colie! I’m 27 and I have this personal trainer that does this group workout class 3 days a week and he’s my personal trainer too 2 days a week. Monday-Friday. 4 weeks ago I wasn’t going to the gym 5 days a week. I’m glad you are able to get a break from school. You got this!! ❤

  • Nice to see and hear that you are happy again, that is just the part of our imperfect life the ups and downs with sin a part of it. I look for the return of the Savior, Who is the One True God, Yahushua. The more I look the more I see we are in the end times which more and more are coming to realize how much time we have left only The One True Family of God really knows, but I choose to get ready and continue staying ready, which is the far more important part. The Kingdom of The One True God is for those who endure to the end no matter how hard as it says in the Bible! May you be well Nicole happy for you!!! As you wanted 🌹😊

  • I really feal this is a super important point that failed to get mentioned. there once was two men fishing, one young man and one old big nosed man. The big nosed man saw the young man struggleing to catch a fish, but the old man caught them left and right. The old man says the the young man, “come hop into my boat, i will show you how to fish”, so the two boarded the boat and rowed out into the lake.. the old man says ” your bateing wrong, in order to catch them you must use the right kind of bait” the young man said with interest “ohhh i see, you must know how to do it qwite well then? Because i saw you over there by yourself popping them off left and right. You have bin doing this a long time havent you?” The old man replys ” yes longer than you have bin alive, i know qwite a lot about it” so the young man says “so does this make you a master?” The old man says, “well i would not say a master myself but im fairly good” the young man says ” ohh are you sure? Because you totaly look like a “Master bater” to me”…..suddenly there was a large splash and the old man rowed back to the shore alone… 🤣
