This happened to me when I was in kindergarten. I had just gotten off the bus and was walking across the road to my daycare when all of a sudden a car came speeding down the road. Luckily someone nearby saw and yelled for me to jump out of the way. I may not be alive today if it wasn’t for that person who witnessed what had happened. When my mom found out, she tried to get information from the bus driver and from the person who witnessed it, and tried to get help to figure out who’s car it was and make sure that they were stopped. But no one would help, no one would listen. Any other incident like that would be in the news, but mine was never. They refused, never even tried to look into what happened and I’m not really sure why. And I’m not sure who it was, but whoever yelled for me to get off the road, thank you so,so much for saving me <3
In Grade 8 I gave my bus driver a bag of pebbles. Anytime a car would drive past the flashing lights he’d throw one or multiple at it. The passing stopped after three people got broken windsheilds. When people complained about broken windshields and the bus driver should be ticketed, the cops just ticketed them for passing a bus with flashing lights using the bus’s dashcam as evidence. That was a fun month
Hopefully the camera was able to capture the licence plates! My friend in elementary school almost got hit while trying to cross the street after getting off of the bus and if she hadn’t stopped walking across when she did she would have been severet injured or dead. The fine for not stopping should be so much higher than it is, and if a cop is nearby I think they should be arrested.
No student and bus driver should have to go through this everyday. My school bus was my only mode of transportation to school and I can’t appreciate enough the bus drivers out there who wake up early in the morning and arrive on time everyday so we don’t stand out in the cold and snow for too long. I really looked forward to seeing my bus driver every morning, I wonder how he’s doin now.
We also have a similar situation in Germany. We don’t have special school buses here but when a bus stop with four way flashers you have to pass it with walking speed. Many drivers here in Germany don’t do this and the next thing is driving on the German Autobahn. But everywehere around the globe in every country are distracted drivers.
We don’t have this rule in England. In fact. We don’t even have the stop sign on our school busses. So long as they don’t get off on the side of the oncoming traffic? Maybe I’m missing something here and I apologise if I am. Just dont understand the rule. Kids won’t get hit if they are getting off the bus on the opposite side to the traffic.

Does this stop procedure get taught when learning to drive in America, is it a part of the test and is it part of the module. Looks to me that the drivers aren’t aware of what to do and/or not familiar what to do. Reason why I ask is that I’m a Brit and we don’t have buses with stop lights and signs like that, so just curious if it’s taught in America.
I consider myself a pretty careful driver (I’ve had my license for almost six years) and while I took my driving course, they never really brought up having to stop for school busses from what I remember. I live in an area where there are next to no school busses and honestly had no idea that you had to stop for school busses (I thought it was just common courtesy). More people definitely have to be made aware of this.
This really gets me fired up!!! Police departments need to set up operations at problem areas with saturation patrols and ticket these idiot motorists. The police chief wouldn’t want one of his kids getting struck by a vehicle at these crossings, so why not set up more operations to crack down? And issuing of tickets shouldn’t be some simple, silly $100 or $250 fine! It needs to be no less than $1,000, an automatic 5 points on their licenses, their insurance premiums should automatically double, plus they should be required to attend a defensive driving course.
Why don’t they stop?! These are kids! Do they want them to be killed? I’m not scared because the cars in my neighborhood actually stop EDIT: A kid at my school got ran over by a car while riding his bike across the street. It was actually at the school. Where the kids get dropped off in the carpool lane. I was on the bus so we got a private escorts by the assistant principal
Where I grew up, the bus would drop you off on the right side of the street. And we had a conductor to help kids cross the roads on rare occasions. Cars and drivers are way too unpredictable for this to be safe ever. The schools should consider having a conductor or the driver step out for kids crossing.
In my school district, the school buses are not allowed to let children cross the street. They have to stop on the right side and the children can only get down to the right side. Often that requires the bus to come around a long way to drop the kids who are just across the road, but still can’t cross it, but that saves children’s lives.
In America,school buses CANNOT stop and let students off between the hours of 9pm-5am!! This is a violation of MUTCO regulation 405980CX. They can be reported also! During late night events,school buses have to pull into the nearest parking lot and let students off after 9pm or no pickup’s before 5am.
It’s literally part of the test for a drivers license in EVERY province. EVERY SINGLE PERSON with a drivers license should know this. What should be happening with license testing is a few questions and points that if you get wrong is an automatic fail. This should be one of them. Likewise I don’t think the monetary penalty is enough. Anyone caught running a school bus stop sign should have their license suspended and have a court date to get it back. Let a judge decide if there should be any further penalties.
The regular driver, on my granddaughter’s bus, will stop in the middle of the street, as she has to walk across. I am constantly reminding her to always look both ways, to walk, NOT run, continuing to look both ways. There are a couple of motorcycles that will go quite fast, as this street leads out into the country.
Schools should set up bus routes that only let children off in front of their homes. Children should not be crossing in front of the bus to cross the street in on coming traffic. Kinda like city buses where the passengers only get off and on the bus on the right side. Schools are to blame for not using common sense and figuring out how to stop children from getting killed when riding a bus.Seems like a simple solution to me.
This happened on my bus everyday and My bus stop was on a busy street and are bus driver said “If somebody’s not stopping take your phone out and record them I don’t care if you phone out for it just do it.” I’m not sure when ever happened to those drivers but I don’t take the bus anymore but pretty obvious it still happens daily.
Ok I think there should be cameras in the outside of buses so they can catch cars’ license plates like this And when a car gets caught they don’t get a ticket they actually get a license suspension for a certain period of time in which breaking said suspension will get you fined a lot of money And if this happens repeatedly you’ll go to prison. This may seem like a lot but children’s lives are at stake. There needs to be harsher penalties instead of just a ticket and a regular traffic fine.
Licence should be suspended for minimum 1 year. As the bus is quite large why can’t a sign say 18 inches high by 4feet long with large block letters saying STOP on it with flashing lights and camera attached to it. one child’s life would be worth the cost. Plus any fines handed out could go to help offset the cost of the signs.
