You clearly are don’t understand there are many kinds of leather jackets, and the only type of leather jacket I would say is off-limits is a moto jacket if you do not have the build for it. I consider myself a fashion-forward clotheshorse, and the majority of people I know could not afford a quality leather jacket until their 30s. I think you should add a caveat to your rules about leather jackets, have you watched old Steve McQueen films? Some men are blessed with the look and personality to be excluded from these rules regardless of age, they’re not trying, they just are. That being said if you don’t have that “it” factor the rule can apply, and the luxe fabrics for distinguished wardrobe is always a fun aspect of growing up.
This is a better article than your other over 40 article. But, I think you are still missing perspective. For one, henleys and leather jackets are now function than form. A Henley is a work piece, not a fashion piece. A good, well fitted leather jacket is indispensable. Especially in the winter. I’ve worn the same classic leather bomber and classic leather biker jacket for the last 30 winters and still get compliments on it. Bomber jackets may be the most forgiving. But, a good cafe racer or moto-jacket is great on a fit guy regardless of age. Especially if that is your lifestyle. And, today’s 40, 50, and 60 year olds did not necessarily give up their rides when they had kids.
What, no leather jackets??? I love leather jackets. I have a nice Real Shearling jacket for colder weather. I also have three soft lamb sport coats, one brown, one black and a slightly longer black. I also have a nice lamb suede in neutral colors that is just above the knee. As far as fitted shirts, I’m over 70 and have a belly issue, slim every where else. I feel very uncomfortable tucking in shirts no matter what the fit, unless I’m in a tux and then the jacket stays buttoned. I don’t wear oversized shirts but do not like it too tapered.

I would have to say the most important tip is get your sizing right. Whilst I’m not a big guy, I have always reached for “L” as the “M”‘s always feel tight in the store and uncomfortable and really who is mucking around trying stuff on for too long anyway?? In photos my clothes always look ill fitting. Just recently I found a jacket that I loved the look of but it was an “M” and having listened to everyone regarding Fashions for over 40’s, thought “Maybe I am just a Medium”. I bought the jacket and it looks and feels great, consequently a few more purchases of ‘M”‘s and I feel more confident and look way better in photos. Sizing matters.

I am told I do not look my age, afrocentric american or people with melanin tend to persevere if they take care of themselves. I worn my fully studed leather jacket . I look great in it. I’m sorry I completely disagree with most of their sentiments. Whilst I can appreciate what they are trying to do, that is steering those who have have less or no clues towards the right direction in style, you have to take fashion into consideration. Leather jackets and henleys are a wardrobe staple for those who wants to exude a certain rugged and masculine edge in their outfit….something that a wool sweater and blazer cannot achieve usually. To rule them out of your rotation is doing guys a disservice. Not all of us wants to wear the “Shirt, blazer, chinos” uniform all the time (YAWN). I am pushing 40. I still wear my distressed denim..I love my Air Jordan 1s. Obviously you have to tweak them to reflect your age abit, but overall I get more complements from them then when I get dressed up in my “uniforms”. I have a nice leather jacket and wear henleys and v-neck tees at times. (not the deep scooped V-neck tee shown in the pic). Henleys are cool and I find women really like them even on older men. Agree if a guy is really out of shape or overweight or thin as a rail, then a henley won’t do it for you… But if a guy is in reasonable good shape henleys can be a good fit. I was told that a lot of women really like to see guys wearing them with long sleeves rolled up like you are ready to do real business like chop down a tree or build you woman a house.
