To care for jeans, sort laundry into lights and darks, follow care instructions, and never wash them with whites or other light colors. Turn jeans inside out and zip up any zippers to preserve them. Use the gentlest cycle on your washing machine, such as delicate, gentle, or hand wash, to reduce fabric wear and maintain their appearance. Use cold or lukewarm water, as hot water can cause fade and shrinkage. All Persil ® ProClean ® clothes are squeaky clean even in cold temperatures. Remove clothes from the washing machine after the cycle has ended to prevent odors and needing a second wash.
After washing, line dry jeans instead of using a tumble dryer to prevent fading, shrinkage, and other damage. Take jeans out of the washer or tub, fold them at the knee, and smooth them out before placing them on a hanger or rack to dry. Hanging jeans over a shower curtain can also work well.

How do you stop dark jeans from bleeding?
To clean dark denim jeans, use cold water and avoid hot water, as it is gentler on dyes. Wash the jeans by themselves, without any other clothes, to prevent any dye from transferring to other clothing. Add a cup of white vinegar to the cold water rinse to seal the dye within the fabric and reduce bleed. If hand washing, soak the jeans in a mix of cold water and vinegar.
Before wearing the jeans, wash them through several cold wash cycles, turning them inside out each time. Do not put them in the dryer, instead hang them out to air dry. This will help retain the shape of the jeans and prevent any dye from transferring to other clothing.

I hope we will get to a point where all types of trousers will be ‘in fashion’ – just as all skirt lengths are now. Then we could all wear the fit and cut that suits are body shapes best without feeling outdated. When I was younger the fashion houses dictated what skirt length was ‘current’ – but finally women just decided to mainly stick with the length they liked and suited them.
Thanks for this article Lydia. I think if we are talking about style rather than trend led fashion, I think skinnies are now a classic piece and as you’ve shown, go with everything. Things are only ‘dated’ if we let fashion dictate our choices. Skinnies and straight legs are classics that should be classed as basics, like a white tee or a chunky knit.
Honestly, I think you are weighing yourself down sometimes. Yes, there is the current fashion, but your small frame would dictate a modification of some current fashion trends. I love your style, but you are a smaller woman who needs to consider proportion when applying style. I really enjoy your articles and just wanted to comment that sometimes your small frame seems to be overwhelmed by current fashion trend✌️
I think skinny jeans are the perfect example as to why fashion and sustainability have a hard time going together, because so many people have them, but we’re not promoted to wear them. I still have a couple and they serve their purpose from time to time. Thanks for this article. I don’t always feel my best in them but I refuse to get rid of them
It’s so thoughtful of you to do a skinny jeans how to article. I’m not a fan of them but appreciate your style and suggestions. I may use it for wearing leggings. I feel like I may as well wear leggings as apposed to skinnies…if anything. So much more comfortable than skinny jeans. Although my preference is straight jeans or trousers. Thanks for the content! So very helpful 💕
Hi Lydia. I must say, I’m not used to seeing you in skinny jeans but you always give great tips on how to style up all types of fits.I’ve got a couple of pairs in my wardrobe but along with my leggings, I’m not fond of wearing them these days but can’t bring myself to get rid of them. If I do wear them, it’s always with a longer, thick pullover and chunky boots. 😊🥰
This was a lovely article to see how looks can be changed by the simple addition of different footwear etc. I have a question though, could you do looks people who love wearing jeans and like being trendy but are having to work with a bit of a tummy. Doing the french tuck doesnt look terribly attractive and Im just dying to know how I can do all the great looks while working around the tummy. 🙂
Well my skinny jeans are going nowhere as I love them but also love all the other different Trouser, jeans, jersey styles for whenever i feel like a change!…. ladies we are at the point where we can all wear what we like!!! Whatever suits us!!!! Let go of any idea we have to all wear whats in fashion!!! Embrace wearing what you want!!!! Lydia is great and very stylish and i love her thoughtful ways she pairs clothes together in a modern easy way….and I agree skinnies are not over! 😉
I love skinny jeans, they just fit me well… but because of you I am branching out… I won’t get rid of them though! I am so happy to learn how to update them to look current! 😊 thank you so much! I have a couple questions too! I would like to know how to style a more fitted blazer… I have some beautiful ones but they are all more fitted. I used to have bigger ones then I got rid of them as I thought they made me look bigger. I lost weight and felt good in smaller ones! Now I am kicking myself! Also where do you find your plain white tshirts? I can’t seem to find one that is nice quality! Thank you! 🥰
Loved this!! I had just brought my dark-wash skinny jeans back out over the weekend & wore them with tall, loose, block-heeled white boots…so much fun!! I’m 5’8″ & received lots of looks & compliments. 😉 The way you always bring out the importance of balance & proportion, and even the use of color, really speaks to me.. as these are some of the same key elements used in interior design. Im still learning, & you’re a great teacher!! 🙂💕
Hi, Im so happy you did this article 😃👌My body shape suits the skinny jeans styled with a bigger top, jacket etc. Pleace do more skinny jeans articles. I need help styling them for all seasons and occasions. I dont think they are dated, if something suits you, its never out og date to me. But we can get a little bit boring wearing or clothes the same way always😉 thank you for all your good tips💕
Thanks Lydia I needed this one as I only wear either straight or skinny jeans the others look hideous on me and living in the countryside in Scotland and needing to walk the dog and muck out the horse I always need to be able to chuck on a pair of country boots or wellies with what ever I’m wearing so anything wide leg is out unless its for going out! Even then if I’m walking then the bottoms get soaked and muddy so not a sensible option! This is great though and will get me making the most of my limitations! X
You did it again, Lydia! You’ve got me re-thinking how to use the pieces I already have in my wardrobe. I have the most comfortable pair of black skinnies with a raw edge from wit & wisdom in my closet; I can wear them all day and I always wear them with black chunky loafers. Now, however, I’m brainstorming ideas using my trainers and my black plaid pointy-toe Mary Jane’s that I haven’t worn in a while and perhaps my oversize white linen blazer as we get closer to spring. Thanks, so much, for all of your help. I can’t wait for the next article. 💜👏
Thank you Lydia! Just yesterday I was considering donating my skinnies and I am relieved that you came out with this just in time!!! I appreciate you sharing your gift on you tube and beyond especially your generous and loving approach to style! All the best to you, Happy New Year 🎆 and cheers to 1,000,000+ followers for you in the future…
I truly adore your articles, I’ve been thinking so much about balance and contrast in outfits and I think it’s something I always paid attention to but only subconsciously. I would like all the pieces in an outfit but not the outfit as a whole and couldn’t put my finger on it. Now I know, thanks to you, that I was just responding to the imbalance. Thank you for creating such amazing content ❤
I think mom jeans /wide or barrel-leg jeans doesn’t look good on curvy people. It shows the bottom part of the body like unnecessarily large as a whole. That’s why skinny jeans look good on people that have booty but don’t have that much leg fat. Everybody shouldn’t wear one type of clothing just because it’s popular. For the Europian body type (like the lady in the article) those type of jeans suits more
Not very useful for us in southern hemisphere presently 🤣…. Cant say I liked most of those looks . Im tall, slim with short waist / dd boobs / big feet and struggle with anything oversized as I just look awful summer clothes / winter clothes. I hate layering also, it just doesn’t work ( bulky/ hot ) … if i put those posted looks on I’d instantly think I looked silly. Clothes are a struggle I find… and getting worse with most ‘ fashion’ today. Cant do the disposable styles of fashion these days ( Zara just awful on me, bad fit ) and cheap labour / large landfill. I keep quality clothes. I need help to look fresh/ stylish 😭
I absolutely love my skinny jeans and find them to be the most important staple in my wardrobe. They give great versatility in looks, easily allowing you to dress up or down, and adapt to just about any style of footwear. When you are petite (4’9″ in my case), loose jeans look extremely frumpy and give the illusion of added pounds, as well as, making me look even shorter. In addition, they make me look matronly and at 69 years old, that’s a “Oh, hell no!” I have had success in finding flair jeans that are quite fitted in the hip and upper leg area that work quite well with platform or heeled boots and shoes. I recently purchased 3 pair each one tailored to accommodate different shoe heights as I prefer the hem to rest just short of touching the ground. Relaxed jeans just don’t flatter me at all. Loose fitting jeans look amazing on tall thin girls, but for us little elves…ummm..not so much. I will hold on to my skinny jeans till I take my final last breath!
Hey Lydia, really enjoyed perusal, and learning all the tips you mention in this article! I’d love to challenge you on another idea for a article that I feel you can take on! Challenge: All your fashion articles are beautiful and compliment your hair color and skin tone, could you please do a article where you style, someone with dark(almost black hair). For example> In another one of your articles, you talk about avoiding wearing black when wearing colours (esp more vibrant colours) and I completely agree with you! But I really enjoy my dark hair colour and sometimes I feel certain outfits really compliment woman with different hair colour and skin colour. I’m not sure if I am explaining this very well! But I would love to see some of your style tips including someone with different hair colour or skin tone, it doesn’t have to a article, of both maybe just pick one and make a article with a girl with dark hair? Anyway just a suggestion! Really love your style, and fashion advice, and keeps me inspired on my daily wardrobe! All the best! 🙂
Fantastic article, Lydia! My fav was the white blouse and looser fitting boots. So elegant. You looked like a million USD, gf. Second fav was wearing the heavy lug boots and sherpa jacket. So cute. Both outfits make you forget those are skinny jeans. They are supporting roles to the stars of the show, but really make the stars shine. 🤩
Good lessons. Wish a woman I saw yesterday sees your article. Skinny jeans with high heeled boots with a bomber jacket. Nothing wrong with that overall. Unfortunately, I don’t think she looked behind her in the mirror before leaving the house. There was way too much going on. A longer coat would have been more forgiving.
