Hey Johnny, this was a really great article. I was actually planning to buy some Vans recently, but I was a bit unsure because of their flat sole which I usually hear only gives like 0.5 inches to your height. I know I’m probably just being really insecure, but I know based on your other article that you can relate to being on the shorter side too. I’m really used to just wearing AF1s, but your article introduced me to the Pro and ComfyCush models and those seem pretty cool with the thicker insole and the foam sole. Do you specifically know how much more height the Pro and ComfyCush model give? Again, I know it’s pretty insecure of me but I like my shoes to at least have 1 inch in height because I’m short already.
The Black Vans Old Skools are like… I don’t try too hard to be cool, but everyone thinks I’m hella cool when I’m rocking these Old Skools. These shoes are hella comfortable, really affordable, gives a humble vibe but the coolest kid in town vibe. It’s a universal timeless shoe. You don’t need to buy an expensive $1000 shoe with a plastic tag attached to it with an off white logo on the heel. You just gotta be you and rock a black vans old skool. You’ll be cooler than those hypebeasts maybe even more with a relatable shoe like the Vans Old Skool. 🙌🏼
One of my fave pairs I own are the white leather sk8 hi’s. I can literally wear them to dress up with a button front and fancy blazer or rock with a hoodie and leather jacket. Honestly it’s hard not to pick them for a fit because of the versatility. I’m very clumsy and can roll my ankle just from walking the wrong way, so high tops are essential to me and I def recommend giving sk8 hi’s a try
Yeah I definitely bought the wrong ones. I bought this weird color way that I found at the vans store in the mall and it’s blue with flowers, I should of just gone with basic/classic. I used to have checkerboard slip one though and the checker board sneakers! You look better then every Johnny. You posted this while I was sleeping. I definitely going to go on a spree, school started and I promise I’m as going to cop some of these apparel/attire and I haven’t!
The classics and pros actually look different aesthetically, in the details. I personally don’t like the red tags on the old-school. And I don’t like the red off the wall stamp on the white models. The pros also fit kinda snug b/c of the thick insole. I prefer the classics, b/c the pros are meant for skating. But the real secret, tho it costs way more, is getting models from the anaheim and vault collections, especially b/c the both have a thin/ light ultracush in sole. But in my opinion, nothing beats the classics. Just depends on what people want/ like I guess, or if the details bother them
i am not wearing the wrong ones. i am a bmx rider who does bmx stunts. there is no such thing as wearing the wrong kind of vans. vans are for bmx riders and skateboarders. some surfers rocked them when they were not surfing as they also skated for the most part. now for the last decades kids who cant skate or bike rock them as a fashion statement. people love vans as they grip the pedals or the grip tape. we dont love them as a fashion statement. now it is cool if they look good. we dont care to match them with outfits. those who do should not wear vans. vans are for people who kick ass on a board or bike.
i skate and own 11 pair of vans. the vans pros are so worth the extra $5. imo the best vans to skate and wear on a daily basis is the old skool. super comfy and you can untie them for a easy slip on and comfort or tie them up and youre good to skate, work out, run. pretty much anything. and the best fit for old skools is a pair of black baggy dickies cuffed or cut to the ankle, black high socks, and the shoe color and shirt color matching. Skate/fashion/function. old skools do it all
Johnny can you make a vidoe in regards on when to wear crew socks and when to wear the colors black and white . I saw one of ur vidoes for gum attire, you rock white vans but you had crew socks ( black) in this vidoe you rocked white vans with low no show socks., What do u suggest for shorts at 5inches and white vans for workouts or just everyday outwear??
I’m a SB fan been wearing damn near half my life since I’ve discovered them back in ‘05 I’m from Alaska born and raised so we catch up to or make up our own fashion/style (well I did) but this year I I live in Seattle and Vans has caught my eye I’m digging the Old Skool style so I’ve been on this Vans run for a minute, thank you man I subscribed to you just off how professional you are with your articles you’re pretty legit peace and love from the AK keep doing your thing man ✊🏾
don’t tell them to buy the pro’s, if your focusing on getting the best style with your Vans buy the Vans Vault models, which were created to mimic the exact quality that vans used to be made in back when they were made in america, they also have higher foxing and much better looking features. Unless you are learning to skate, Vans Vaults is the best way to go
Seriously love your style Johnny! Glad i found you on here. I was going to buy a pair of Vans as they are so comfortable when i tried them on. I don’t skate, just want comfort and love the street wear look. I think i like the look of the old skool model on me. What are your thoughts for a first pair for female style?
I love wearing sneakers with a suit (even formal). The key is choosing a shoe that sits on the floor and is simple (e.g., CVO or slip-on). Keeping sneakers on the floor is a Vans black/block or a black monochrome. Question: H🎉ow do you recommend drying the Vans slip-on shoe? My favorite sneakers are slip-ons. My top sneakers are the Men’s Keds Surer (1966 to 1972) in CVO or slip-on.
