  • Antonio you inspired me to wear all this clothes, every time when i wear elegant clothes people always complement me, its all because of you, also you helped me with my depression whenever i felt sad or lonely i was just clicking your articles, you helped me a lot and made me feel more confident and motivated thank you for your job, im sure you inspire other people to be confident man thanks a lot, keep going i know with every your new article you help guys to be better and more confident, thanks sir.

  • Yup. This is THE outfit. It’s all I wear unless I opt out of the jacket for more casual looks. Otherwise it’s perfect. What I really like about it is that it allows me to be dressed better than, as you said, the vast majority of people but I never feel like I’m being too over the top like I might in a suit.

  • I’m 14 years old my friends think I am stupid for perusal your articles and being into all the suits and my own style I just got my first jacket (sports jacket ) I love it but I am not sure about wearing it in public can you please make article for people like me starting out also I love the new York. please write back to me.

  • Hi Antonio. I found your website about a week ago and have been diving pretty vigorously through your archive and really wanted to thank you for all of the great information. I especially appreciate that “ghost article” you did a few days back and managed to get in on the kickstarter for the Ace Mark shoes. Three pairs. 😉 I’ll also be looking at the 5th watches as I really like the black and tan you’ve even shown in today’s article. So sorry to ramble. Anyway, I am at a very interesting point in my life right now and am really moving towards making some major life changes. The biggest of these is losing a whole lot of weight. Over 150 pounds of weight to be sure. I’ve already lost quite a bit from where I was six months ago (over 50 lbs down) and plan on continuing this course for the next year and a half to two years until I reach my goal weight. That being said, I’m coming from a place where being stylish generally meant being a fat slop in black t-shirts and really big boy pants. I’m so tired of being that guy. Ultimately, I’m trying to work on my style a whole lot more without making big investments (see what I did there, hehe) while the weight comes off. Dropping down a size every month to every month and a half could get hideously expensive. All in all though, I really appreciate the things I’m learning from your website and especially the stuff for big guys right now as well as the info on accouterments and shoes where my current investments are most likely to be longer lasting than shirts or pants right now.

  • Hey Antonio, been a sub for over 3 yrs now and thought i would give you some hopefully constructive cr. Its fine that you bring in a watch company that you are working with, but keep it shorter. Say something like: so guys, if you a nice way to compliment a sportsjacket, rock it with a classic timepeace. Introducing X company. I’ve been working with these guys for well over 2 years now, go check them out, i’ll leave a link in the description for you. Hope you dont take offence to this, that was not my intent. Thank you for your vids, I find them really informative 🙂

  • I love this look, it’s my go-to. If I were to add any thing it is that my favorite variation to it is to wear a turtleneck shirt. This might sound weird but it looks awesome. I have even worn turtlenecks with a suit and it works there as well. Something about the opposing shapes of the collars just looks so cool, and stands out. Also the Steve Jobs vibes are never a bad thing per say.

  • Dear antonio, I would just like to thank you for all the good work you have done for all of us that definiteley needed these kinds of articles. I used to be your average poorly dressing high school teen. I never bought clothes unless my mother was with me to give me advice, but ever since I discovered your website I feel a lot more confident in the clothes I buy and wear. Now i get compliments everytime I walk anywhere simply for wearing clothing that fits properly. I usually say “thank you” to those people, but the one I should really be thanking is you. As of recently I have been looking into buying a watch, but as you can assume a high school kid such as myself really doesn’t have a very large budget. As such, any opportunity I get to leech off of your generosity will be greatly appreciated. As for the watch I love the most from the Fifth, it would definitely have to be Tribeca with a brown band from the new york collection. The brown leather simply matches my shoes perfectly, and I have always had a sweet spot for rose gold.

  • I think dark blue jeans with navy/blue jacket can look a little to formal from a distance or in a darken nightclub or bar so I like going with pale blue jeans (no rips/threading etc,) with navy jacket and dark jeans with grey jackets for a colour contrast. Which looks more informal but still smart. What do you think?

  • One thing that I love about sports coats is the additional pockets. When I wear a sports coat I have plenty of space to put my sunglasses, cell phone, business card case, handkerchief and pocket knife. I have found that unless I’m wearing cargo pants it’s kind of hard to carry all the tools I like to have with me. A sports coast solves this issue and looks great! Thanks for all the articles and excellent information. I have checked out the 5th watches and my two favorite watches are the New York Upper East and the Tribeca. I love the simple style and design. These watches are true modern classics. Have an awesome day!

  • These articles are always gold. Just a suggestion for some of the guys with broader shoulders and athletic builds.. I’ve had A LOT of difficulty finding sports jackets to wear but I was told to check out Eddie Bauer’s travel blazer, they’re a polyester blend, water/ wind resistant, with a slight stretch to them, and I love em. They’re on the casual side with the fabric and sports lapel but that’s perfect, IMO, for jeans and chinos. If any of you know of better/other options I’d encourage you to toss them out there. More guys are caring about how they look and with that more info/ knowledge is always a good thing.

  • Great article, however, I will gently disagree with the prohibition on wearing back. Black oxford lace-ups polished to a shine with a dark indigo jean and a crisp white button down shirt with a blazer or sport jacket looks very masculine and well put together. I get compliments on that combo all the time. Try it!

  • It’s funny I came across this article. It’s a look over been thinking about playing with. Also the watch brand I’ll be sure to check out. I’m looking for a brown leather banded watch, but I’m very picky. I like things simple but classy. Thanks for this. I’ve gleaned some things from many of your articles. Blessings to you and thank you for your service.

  • I’d like the Melbourne or New York style Fifth watch in black preferably because I just bought a sports jacket in pink, I know it’s a bold move to go with a pink but at this point I think I’m knowledgeable enough to pull it off since I’ve been a long time subscriber of you perusal every article you put out! Thank you for making me from a man to a Gentleman, Antonio you are like a father figure to me & id love to win any of the fifth watches you’re giving away. Thanks in advance for being awesome Antonio 🙂

  • This is exactly the look I wanted to try, I even have my Fifth watch to go with it! But the sports jacket I just bought is cashmere and looks really formal, plus it feels kinda hot to wear now that summer is coming…if I had just waited a bit longer to buy I could’ve seen this article and picked a better fabric lol

  • This is one of my go-to outfits as I love odd jackets and pairing them with both jeans and dressier trousers is really fun and versatile. Lately, as the high where I am is high 50’s, I’ve opted for a classic single breasted navy blazer and love how it pairs with my lightweight wool trousers and single monks.

  • Hey Antonio I loved this article so helpful! I really like the New York and Tokyo collection and would be thrilled if you send one of those swatches my way! I really think that a dark washed pair of jeans and a darker color of navy is a killer combo! I also like the checkered sports coats with a medium wash denim.

  • Much respect to you, Antonio! However, I am going to starkly disagree with you on this. Jeans are for cowboys. There is no reason, with modern blended fabrics, and the ubiquitous array of custom tailoring options, to settle for denim—particularly with anything even remotely resembling tailored clothing. Jeans are for men who don’t know how to dress. I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans and, like you, sir, I can buy anything I want. BTW, I was raised by a United States Marine, so I was shining my shoes for church when I was 10. That was a long time ago.

  • Oh, the KING of this look was Steve McQueen!!… Just look at his clothing in ‘Bullitt’… Well tailored/fitted dark jeans, Clark style dessert boots, turtleneck and tweed jacket… Although he also ROCKED a shawl collared cable knit cardigan in the hospital scene (later seen in Starsky & Hutch)… Alternative look could be achieved using a polo or tattersall or gingham button down with corduroy pants and suede oxford shoes or penny loafers… Do NOT forget the proper watch!! THAT is the most important male statement piece!!!

  • The New York upper East is AMAZING. Personally, I’d wear it with a dark Blue/Navy Blazer with Mother of Pearls Buttons and a dress Shirt with Studs(but that’s just me, I hate Plastic).I’d match that with dark wash Jeans since it’s Spring and black dress Shoes with Brogue. If I want to dress it up a bit I might add on a Paisley Bowtie and a Vest.

  • My favourite sports jacket + jeans combination is – dark wash slim fit indigo jeans, burgundy v-neck jumper, white heaver oxford cloth shirt (maybe with navy placket to compliment the jeans), charcoal grey haringbone sports jacket, dark brown chukka boots and matching belt, slightly bigger watch with dark brown strap and dust brown with navy paisleys pocket square (its reverse side is dust brown with navy polka dots). And being the obnoxious perfectionist I am – I would pick socks with navy and burgundy in them and of course the jacket has dark brown interlining. It’s my go to smart casual fall outfit.

  • I really like the Melbourne Minimal (white & tan), but they do look a bit big for my tastes. My favorite watch I own is a Movado Safiro which is very thin and small, almost like you’re not wearing anything. For the article, you didn’t mention it, but I know you like sweaters which would work as well in that combination. Vests are another good choice for just that extra bit of style.

  • Hey Antonio, I can’t find any sports jackets in England. Are they called something different here? I just checked out the Fifth because my black strap watch is worn at the sides. I love the UPPER EAST design in the New York range if you have any of those spare? It would be a perfect everyday watch for me. Thanks for your time and another great article.

  • Yeow, I’m just looking for some advice either by yourself or even better!?, by your nice followers here. My question is this “I do love sports jackets, can I get away by wearing a sport jacket combos all the time?. Or is it wise to have at least one full suit for rare occasions (hardly attend weddings and etc.). I’m not a corporate person, so I don’t wear suites at all. I’m a industry worker and just want to look good in different environments.”. I do have to say that I like your website. Very clean and every article has the answers to what males ponders about with clothing. Keep it up… I’ve always been the opposite dude, pretty much I’m a blue sport jacket, full cotton shirt “tones mostly”, jeans/chinos and of course worn in converse (they just work with me, don’t argue). That’s me all over (sounds hell bad but it really works on myself only).

  • Fit, can it hide your EDC, can you move in it to fight or flight. Shoes, what is the sole, once again can you fight or flight in it. Style for the sake of looking good and advertising you are well off and probably carrying cash or expensive goods like that watch, while advertising you are a perfectly harmless target just seems silly to me.

  • I’ve got a few comments- 1. After some washes, I feel like my jeans start to fade and aren’t as dark as before. Any tips? 2. I wear a coral button-down shirt, jeans, and medium-brown brogues with a same-colour belt, and I think it looks good for something a little above casual in a college campus setting. 3. Denim shirt with denim jeans? I doubt that will really work well…

  • Hit the thrift shops, gentlemen. Especially if you’re not rolling in cash. But take his advice and be really selective about fit and style. Take your time, pass by a bunch of maybe’s, and you will eventually start finding awesome little treasures. Handsome tweed jacket for 9 bucks? I’m all over that. Stacy Adams shoes with a great “lived-in” patina to class up the jeans? Don’t mind if I do. You don’t have to be rich to look good.

  • As a professional horseman of 15 years, I wear this style often. Jeans are my second skin and, even when on business, I often find myself at barns and farms. I usually pair this with brown boots and a patterned buckle belt. I suggest a nice pair of true western boots. I wear a pair of saddle tan, square toe Noconas. I’ve had them for several years and cannot recall the exact make. I suggest you stay clear of ostrich, gator, snake, and other exotic leathers, as these are too noisy and most actual cattleman and horseman will find them pretentious. I wear indigo Wrangler 13MWZ original fit jeans on most occasions, but sometimes switch out for black whisky 13MWZ if I want to “dress it up” a little. I have several vintage tweed jackets (mostly Donegal in shades of brown) that I use, but my favorite is my paternal great-grandfather’s elbow/shoulder patch shooting jacket. I can go unbuttoned or pair a tie with the outfit and often wear a red or brandy check or plaid shirt for a pop of color. I have a suede vest is sometimes layer in and was surprised how well it worked when I first tried it. The belt is always a simple, embossed belt with a nice bronze buckle. I’m careful in the choice of buckle as I find that championship buckles (or silver and brass buckles based thereon) feel gaudy and pretentious. The buckles I wear have meaning within the horse and cattle culture and do not need to stand out. They are not attention grabbing, but they do tell those in the know something about who I am.

  • Holy crap …what a kick ass article..I just got so much more inspired..thank you. I am long haul truck driver.i just today started to change my image with dark jeans and button up shirt.i don’t want to be sloppy trucker ANYMORE. I have a black cordaroy sport coat and a black wool sports coat can I incorporate them? I am inspired by the business casual as I do some labor work..I want to look business professional in front of my customers. I feel so much better now than ever before.can you help me with this? I have so much nice clothes I don’t wear them.but I am going to start dressing better.thanks to your article.

  • I’m somewhat curious where your stance on jeans with a jacket and waistcoat is. As a photographer I love the three piece suit look but sometimes to get certain angles I have to get on the ground and such and well… not too fun if wearing suit pants. So I’ve adapted to something that I can wear when meeting clients and making an impression as well as shooting in by just taking off the jacket.

  • Hi Antonio. Nice article. I really like sport jackets since my working konditions are not best suited for formal suits. However, I usually wear Charcoal grey sportsjacket (It almost looks like wool jacket) with Dark blue jeans and cognac colored belt and chukka boots. As Shirt I either choose White or navy button-down chirts witha combination of crew or v neck sweaters. I should say with that clothes I am almost always in very good position and either dress it up by pulling a navy tie with red or white dots or dress down. And I just got recently my watch after spending a lot of time studying a rose gold watch with white dial and brown (cognac) straps. I think my watch selection would be the New York Tribeca.

  • Oh my God, never do that! Jacket + Jeans = “has been guy style”. That is the style for 50 year old guys, who want to pretend they are still cool, young and handsome despite they are not (anymore). This should be banned, except if you want people to laugh in your back. terrible. Well, I saw this style a lot in Netherlands… They are well known to dress well.

  • Do you know about the Bjorn clog from Naot? It’s shaped like a slipper. Even in dress black, tell me that’s formal. It’s loose, it’s comfortable, and the replaceable footbed makes it last so much longer. I’ve been wearing a pair almost every day I’m not wearing sandals since I got my pair over two years ago. I’m also wondering, would that be a good time to wear a cravat? When shouldn’t you wear a cravat?

  • I am trying to come into the gentleman’s world. I was in the Army for many years and didn’t have to worry about how to dress for success. Your articles really help. Working on a wardrobe now. What are some must haves? Bought a watch but think it might be wrong, citizens eco drive. Would love to check out the fifth watch.

  • 67 years old and have been doing the jeans/sport jacket for many years. I like a nice button down knit vest with the shirt or just a turtle neck when weather gets chilly. Even add a scarf. Won’t do the tie thing though (too dressy for jeans in my opinion). For years my wife has been telling me her girlfriends tell her they like the way I dress. Even get the occasional compliment from young woman, so I must be doing something right (heh heh).

  • Well, I’m not a young man yet, I’m under 18, but now that I know this I’ll do it as soon as I can! Nice article. It’s also great to see The 5th Watches here.. I really like the Tokyo ones, especially the Aki, or also the upper east, because those are really minimal and I love minimalist watches! There are not so many companies that make minimal watches like this around and that’s a shame in my opinion. Bye 🙂

  • Needle point belts. Casual and colorful that brings in a different fabric/material (kind of a different play on the casual tie). Understand that they won’t be as upfront or noticeable as a tie, but sometimes subtlety is the aim. Or since I’m in FL, jackets are worn at the beginning of the engagement/evening and when removed give/reveal a new focal point.

  • Antonio, the Black and Tan Melbourne would be an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone. I need a more casual watch and I love the simplicity of the design. I really liked this article by the way. Helping with ideas to throw together my own looks with the wardrobe that I’ve already got together.

  • Not sure if you are still in Kiev but a article on shopping in foreign markets would be interesting. I bought a casual jacket a few hours south south of there and had it altered for almost nothing. We know people travel for dental and medical….. how about travel to have suites custom made? Or in my case incorporate it into a trip.

  • Antonio, what’s your thoughts on more flashy colored sport coats! I’ve seen some coats that I would love to try wearing but just not sure? I don’t want to be the person everyone’s pointing and laughing at yet, I like to be a little different than others. I am white and 55 however! I’m thinking red, purple, royal blue that sort of thing.

  • Totally agree I love sports jackets with jeans or chinos, great article sir. Not sure if sports jackets are more popular in the US than in the UK they are readily available but I would not say they are common in my part of the country. I have two, I have a brown tweed with thin square design and also a gray woollen jacket.

  • I think personaly if I’m going out for a meal or somewhere civilised like visiting a country house or art gallery with my other half it’s appropriate for me but at all other times apart from a night out forget it. I also think combining standard coloured jeans with a sports jacket is awkward, for inspiration try brook tavener who have jeans in non standard colours. If your a sucess women will love you, and if your not so well of don’t go overboard.

  • Never a big fan of jeans with the sport jacket??? Nothing against it its been done a zillion times… like a guy uniform of some kind. If I wear a jacket its gonna be with nice slim fitting pants of a natural weave cotton or light wool but not denim in this case. When wearing jeans I will do a leather jacket thats cut like a sportscoat but not a fabric sportscoat. Just preference like anything else.

  • What I wear when I fly. A good sport coat is indispensable when traveling through airport security. Two inside pockets and two outside pockets. Passport, boarding pass in one inside pocket and wallet and phone in the other inside pocket. Phone charger and ear buds in one outside pocket, and vape in the other outside pocket. You can simply take the sport coat off when sending through your items in the tray and be unencumbered for the rest of your trip. Sport coats are also great because they work in almost all climates as well.

  • Great article Antonio. As far as accessories go, I think a pocket watch would work well too. One that has a long enough chain that matches that makes a nice loop for style. Nothing in Gold though; either in Stainless steel or sterling silver. I would also pair that pocket watch with a thick masculine bracelet in the same material. What do you think?

  • I actually love the watch you had in the box. The Upper East with the gray suede strap stands out to me more than any other watch on the sight. It’s just so clean looking with the white face and silver body. Pairing it with a light wash denim jacket and some tan chinos and gray henle or oxford, I think it would look fantastic.

  • Hey Antonio! Couple things… The 5th Watch – I took your advice a few months ago and purchased the New York (Upper East Side) which you held up with the interchangeable straps (black leather and gray suede). Excellent accessory to complete the look! I also like the Melbourne too. 🙂 I’ve always been a fan of the sports jacket and jeans look as I’ve rocked that look for several years especially in Southern California as I felt it was prominent out there during the last 10 years. I was curious to see if you would mention the rules (or tips) on whether the dress shirt should be tucked in or not. I know this should depend on the bottom styling of the dress shirt, but what is your opinion on that? Thank you again for your insight on this!

  • Nice article, Antonio. My mind is already buzzing with ideas on different colour combinations and patterns. You did your job well! Regarding the watches, I love the Natsu watch from the Tokyo line. It fits the summer theme so well and the pastel blue watch strap coupled with the silver watch face is just a match made in heaven.

  • Antonio, you look really sharp in this vid. I’d like the Melbourne – Black & Tan if possible. one look i’d wear would be a grey check jacket with indigo jeans, light blue dress shirt, maybe a bold plaid tie and brown double monks/tassel loafers. could also lose the tie with a lighter brown check/houndstooth jacket and black jeans with black SUEDE chelsea boots to bring down the formality but yet keep the look super stylish!

  • Hey Antonio ! Do you really think a T-shirt is a no-go with a sports jacket? (Maybe a white – navy blue combo ?) I have been wanting to dress smarter, but not every occasion calls for a shirt! I’ll look in to some more polos, great idea! The fifth really do have a very versatile collection – What is the build quality like? The melbourne white and tan is my personal favourite, seems like the most elegant !

  • Melbourne black and tan, it’s casual but classy, it will go with my grey sport coat and brown boots, I’ve been hesitant about the pocket square on he sport coat. now that you’ve explained it, I will be stocking up and learning call the different types of folds. again, great work, I love your articles, they’ve helped me in my daily life, and its priceless information I feel like a big baller shot caller BOSS. thank you Antonio, any word on what to drive car article?

  • Antonio thank you for making us better gentlemen and is it ok to go all blue or all black?? i used to wear all black im 25 years old but perusal your vids … now i wear my black shoes and black casio diving watch so it can match and a blue jeans shirts i do use almost any thing hahaha i am slowly applying the rules harder till i dress like i should even tho here in Aruba its 24/7 summer hot weather thats why its a bit hard to follow the dress shirt

  • I really like the Melbourne watch. I’m thinking about asking for one for my birthday next month (Unless you want to send me one of your extras :). I just purchased a sports jacket similar to the one you’re wearing in the article. I plan on wearing it with dark wash jeans, brown loafers and a white or light blue oxford. Great article as always. Thank for the tips.

  • I’m new to business as well as being new to your chanel and I gotta say very informative I have yet to go through all of your articles but each time I learn something new and apply it to my daily business life and I find I get compliments quite often so thank you very much I always look foward to learning about men’s style from you

  • This is basically a “How to dress snappy as a teacher” article, especially if you teach younger kids, like I do (mostly). I think my favourite is the Upper East watch. It looks very versatile, though white and tan is just gorgeous. My sports jacket is a somewhat like yours, a bit more sport-y (made for wear at least, and most likely a bit cheaper), so I’d pair it with white and tan, just to make it pop. I think. I’d need to see it to actually decide, which is my big weakness.

  • Good article, thanks. I travel a lot and strive to travel light. Thus, I have standardized on a dark gray suit and black belt / shoes that can work with pretty much any shirt color. I always hear this rule “don’t mix a blue suit with black shoes/belt.” If I wanted to bring a blue suit jacket for an evening dinner after the biz meeting, is it ok to mix that with dark jeans, black (but not shiny) shoes, and a black belt? Hoping to avoid the need to pack an extra pair of shoes as I’m already traveling with my suit shoes and tennis shoes.

  • Nice article Antonio! And I appreciate the chance to get one of the watches for free. I love the Tokyo Fuyo and I would wear it with a blue jacket a black belt and black shoes (I know you said no, but I still have to get brown ones yet) and after I got the brown shoes I would get some brown leather straps for the watch 😉 And one style question I got: would you recommend linen jackets?

  • One point that was missed in this article is what hand/wrist should you wear the ring, bracelets or watch on? Back about 20 years ago, it would have depended on which is your dominant hand (or which one you use to write/sign). Today, it depend on an accessory found in over 90% of the men’s pocket : the smart phone. Which hand do you tend to hold your phone in while using it? Left or right? Usually, you also develop an habit of where you keep your phone based on the synergy between how you hold it (which hand) and what kind of clothes you’re used to wear the most. For example, someone who’s used to wear a polo or T-shirt usually hold their phone either in a belt pocket or, more likely, in their pant’s pocket and that keeps on even if they wear a jacket with the pocket in the jacket especially made for the smartphone (with an hole for the headphone jack). The general rule is to wear accessories in the hand or wrist that your use to interact with your smart phone or, if you prefer, the opposite hand from which you hold your phone with. That’s because having a watch with a phone on the same side seems not quite balanced… and might even look ridiculous if you consider that both does the exact same job at telling the time. The exception is if you wear 2 accessory such as a ring and a bracelet. If the bracelet is rather small and not bulky (such as a small leather or textile bracelet), you can wear that bracelet on your phone-hand as it’s better to keep the ring on the opposite hand.

  • My first, and still go-to sport jacket is a brown herring bone; I’d recommend brown or grey over blue if its your first. A looser fit is also a good idea, as you may be more apt to layer your sport jacket over a sweater than you would with a suit. Antonio certainly has some attractive jackets in his rotation; one jacket/fabric he didn’t mention, and probably the epitome of the sport jackets is tweed. To those new to RMRS, Antonio’s systems, and in general starting out on your path to getting dressed instead of covering yourself: This is an easy and all but fool proof look to pull off, and a great first step toward upping your style. As Antonio stated, this falls on the more casual end of style, yet I consistently get compliments on how good I look with this pairing. And remember to be confident! Right after someone tells you how great you look, be ready to hear their excuse on why they didn’t ‘dress up’ themselves! Just remember to be a gentleman when you respond.

  • Antonio thanks for these articles. This one is the one I’ve particularly liked as I just got a traditional Green tweed sports jacket made and wanted to find the right way to wear it casual. The Tan & Black Melbourne watch would look nice with it I think. I’ll have to save up for that though. Your articles have really transformed how I think about how I dress but given me the confidence to do so. Really appreciate these articles.

  • I love the New York Tribeca because the face is minimalist, and thus it’s quite versatile. Also, the bezel has a perfect thickness which will complement every wrist. I would pair this with a navy blue sport coat, and since it is spring, I would opt for cotton or linen, and a crisp pair of dark wash indigo jeans with a pair of caramel brown Chelsea boots. I would also add a fun, yet somewhat conservative navy blue, white striped cotton belt. The navy blue sport coat would have no padding, nice, wide, notched lapels, a slightly lighter hue, so that it contrasts nicely with the jeans, it would have white buttons, and to keep things casual, it would have ticket pockets. Oh, and I almost forgot about the dress shirt. I would go for a crisp white dress shirt with a nice wide blue bengal stripe pattern, and an Italian widespread collar. This would be paired with a solid blue silk knit tie and a salmon colored linen pocket square with a subtle white pindot pattern. So as you can see, I’ve got big plans for this watch and I would really appreciate it if you send one my way. Thank you and please continue putting out great content.

  • I think you’ve covered this material awhile ago, but this time you did a better presentation and better materials. If I should add, maybe you missed about how there are sportcoats (or odd jackets) that are double-breasted with peak lapels, how do you deal with that though? Also, that Tokyo Aki watch looks cool for me, it also would match with the blues.

  • So glad I finally found your website! Thanks for all the great tips, I just turned 50 this year and haven’t taking care of myself correctly, the slope seems stiff but with your help I feel I’m gonna catch up really fast! Thanks to you I also discover your spounser and fallen in love with the melbourne white and tan and the black and tan! Don’t want to decide which to get, guess I’m gonna need them both!!

  • It’s a hard toss up for sure! I love the white and tan Melbourne and the broadway! At 26 I’m finally starting to build a respectable mans wardrobe. And does it show! I hang on to the information in these articles like no other. The respect that dressing better brings not only from my coworkers but also wait staff is totally worth the expense! Thank you so much!

  • I’ve always been a fan of minimalist style watches. Personally I like the white & tan Melbourne, would go good with a lot of the blue jackets and shirts that I own. Very similar to the watch you are wearing in the article, but I’ve always been drawn to silver rather than gold for the watch metal. Great value with the watches too!

  • Thank you Antonio for great content, I’ve been perusal your articles for a couple of years now and they’ve helped me step up my game. I’ve always been a casual dresser and know how to dress up when needed too. I’m in my mid 50s and recently got a promotion with my employer. This very article is the one that drives home the fact I can stay casual but turn things up a notch without looking to formal. Keep up the great content and keep the outfit ideas, colors and fabrics coming for us guys who have to ask our wife’s or daughters to see if the outfit looks good 😉😉

  • The Melbourne collection white and tan is my favorite, with the New York collection Upper East as a second. I have been reading your website for about six months. I do find the sports jacket and jeans combo to be a good choice for me. I have a gray herringbone sports jacket that I wear a lot, paired with dark denim and brown shoes. I usually go without a tie, but do wear a pocket square and a gray flat cap. As you said, not too stuffy but definitely better dressed than 95% of the guys out there. Your infographics are a great help to those of us still early on in our education. I appreciate your hard work, and so does my wife!

  • I’ve got a vintage white-and-navy houndstooth sports jacket (tiny pattern, so from a distance it like like a heather grey) that I wear almost daily. It looks great with jeans, and works with any kind of shirt from a polo through a button-down dress shirt, or even with just a knit sweater. Of the 5th watches, I think it would pair really well with something like the Melbourne White and Tan.

  • Hi Antonio, great article, I will definitely be applying these principles! As for the 5th watch, I really like the New York range in the Brooklyn style. I would pair it with a grey sport coat with a black, silver and grey paisly pattern pocket square, a black shirt and dark grey chinos for a monochromatic look. I would top it off with a pair of black double monk strap shoes in a non patent leather look.

  • The Melbourne lineup suits my personal tastes best. But all of the ranges still have plenty of good looks and unique purposes. Since I’m still so new to mens fashion, and as I am on a tight budget, I’ve always liked jeans. But knowing ways to pull off jeans with a sports jacket is fantastic news for me!

  • Great article, again. Two additions. First, use distinct colors for your jacket and jeans so it doesn’t looks as if you tried to put together a suit, but couldn’t afford the trousers. Second, suit jackets often have too fine and shiny fabric to combine well with jeans. Look for jacket fabric with more texture or some pattern on it, e.g tweed.

  • I really really love wearing a sports jacket with 5.11 Jean Cut pants from the military shop. It is a very nice cut, nobody can ever tell that they are not dress pants unless they look super close. The pants are covered in Teflon so it repels all the dirt and liquids and even ketchup. They come with 9 pockets so they are super functional. Only downside is that they come in only 4 color variants. Best thing is that they usually have a sale around 11th of May so you can get them for $35 a pop.

  • All 5th watches are amazing 😛 The new York Broadway or Brooklyn and the Tokyo fuyu, those are my favorite! Thank you for this article! I love the navy blue sport jacket and I’ll definitely be getting some to match with the rest of my outfit. Been using collar shirts for a while now and it really suits the navy blue sport jacket 🙂 Keep it up Antonio!
