How Should A Kid Safety Lock Be Fixed?

Child safety locks are designed to ensure the safety of children while on the road. However, they may not disengage, causing inconvenience and anxiety. To troubleshoot a stuck child safety lock, follow these steps:

  1. Open the door from the outside. If the child safety door lock is engaged, you can open the door from the inside.
  2. Remove the door trim panel and some inner plastic wrap on the inside of the door.
  3. Insert a small screwdriver when the inside door handle opens and jiggling cable allows the child lock to be disengaged. However, the issue occurs again when engaging.
  4. Some vehicles have a powered switch that pops the cover off of the door handle and drills a hole there. Then, reach in and reconnect the cable that probably came off of the child safety lock.
  5. If the child safety lock system is equipped with a glitch, it can sometimes force car owners to open the doors from the outside for their passengers. This can be stopped by setting the child lock levers off and inserting a piece of foam pipe insulation into the lever.
  6. Try pushing in on the inside release handle, the opposite of how you would pull if trying to open it. Most likely, your door lock module is knackered.
  7. Take the door panel off and see if the child safety lock switch is stuck in the “on” position. Spray WD-40 into the lock switch and move it up and down several times to move the switch up and down.
  8. Pull on the inside door latch handle while trying to move/disengage the child lock button. Aim to thump the handle on the side closest to the rear of the car.
  9. If the doors still don’t open from inside the car after disengaging the locks, call the police non-emergency service.
