How Can Using The Appropriate Tools Boost Output?

Having the right tools is crucial for workplace productivity and happiness. Research shows that good tools and resources not only increase productivity but also reduce employee stress, shrink turnover, and increase employee satisfaction. Key takeaways include optimizing work efficiency and streamlining tasks, such as Trello, Linearity Curve (formerly Vectornator), ClickUp, and other tools like Trello, which focus on completing tasks quickly and minimizing waste.

Providing the right tools can boost employee motivation and performance, as well as improve workplace conditions, emailing, meetings, and flexibility. By identifying ways to standardize tools or reduce overlap across the business, such as communication or collaboration platforms, employees can demonstrate higher customer engagement and increased productivity.

Technology can also improve productivity by offering better collaboration, communication, and time-saving tools. BlockSite, a tool that blocks distracting sites and apps, can help employees get more done in less time. Investing in the right tools and software can automate tedious tasks, allowing team members to focus on more important work. Additionally, communication tools can help mitigate communication gaps and further streamline the flow of work among individuals and within multiple teams.

Encouraging employees to keep their workspaces tidy can have an instant positive effect on mood and productivity, and can lead by example. In summary, having the right tools and techniques is essential for optimizing work efficiency, streamlining tasks, and boosting employee motivation and performance.

  • I must be an outlier. Evernote is always referred to (even now by Evernote) as a note-taking app. I have used Evernote now for 10 years and have 3000+ “notes”. However, I have almost never written a note in Evernote. I signed up for the service because I was looking to become paperless and, living between two residences in two countries, I needed a place to store documents so that I could access them wherever I was and find them easily. It has been invaluable even though I use Dropbox and Google Docs. It has saved me much aggravation and time over and over again, yet I have never used it to take notes (I use Notability for that). If memory serves me Evernote was originally marketed as a place for everything. That being said, I think it is a mistake to say Evernote is simply a note-taking app. It’s power goes well beyond that. My two cents.

  • Carl, have you checked out the beta evernote with the tasks feature. I’m dabbling with it. No solid opinion yet. One of my main problems is I work largely off of emails from customers and I get a LOT of them. Probably 25 / day. Some are 5 minute tasks and some are 2 hours. I have a very packed schedule most days w/ little discretionary time to knock the tasks out. I gave up on Todoist because it was too hard to integrate and connect the email into the task and get back to email to complete. I’ve gone to just a folder approach. Not satisfied with my todo structure. Outlooks integrated task tool is TERRIBLE. I’m going to go back through your courses and think on this some more.

  • You have to remember, even though you’ve been using those tools for many years, at some point you were a beginner with them, as some of us are now. 🙂 I keep my home and work life completely separate in my tools. I have no problem sticking with one thing for home life. Work, however, is where I struggle the most. I have yet to find a system that actually works for my situation. Todoist is ok…but not quite enough. I am currently using MeisterTask (similar and possibly better than trello), but I still struggle with it being TOO much. Not to mention I cannot afford the subscription to get access to the tools w/in it that I really need. I have so many checklists at work, some of my projects are 40+ tasks long. I’m just so tired of the paper trail. Why is it so difficult to find something to work?! I will put my task into one project, only to find it duplicated in several projects because they all depend on this particular task. Ah…life in commercial real estate, office administration, and marketing. Anyway, LOVE your articles, so glad I found this website. You are always offering great tips and inspiration for a techie like me. Cheers!
