Does Ups Provide Help With Child Care?

UPS is expanding its emergency child care benefits for workers after a successful pilot program. The shipping company offers an industry-leading benefits package, including healthcare with no premiums, a pension, tuition assistance, and paid vacations, holidays, and option. Child care financial assistance (also called vouchers, certificates, or subsidies) is provided by the federal government to help families during the pandemic. Some private industry companies have stepped up their child care benefits, providing on-site or near-site centers and expanding eligibility requirements based on income.

Some employers are also offering child care subsidies during the pandemic, typically employer-provided spending. These programs help families who qualify pay for child care so they can work or go to school. Some companies offer cost-sharing or reimbursement plans to help employees pay for childcare, or offer back-up care through a “big daycare” provider like KinderCare, Bright Horizons, or The Learning. The Employer-Provided Child Care Credit can save employers more in taxes than using a deduction alone, and employees can exclude it.

UPS and Patch were able to get the childcare center up and running in just under six months. In August 2022, they started offering emergency childcare to part-time workers on the “twilight” shift, given childcare challenges tend to be most prevalent during abnormal shift times. UPS will expand an “emergency child care initiative” for U.S.-based front-line workers in 2024, with 80 of the initiative now available at three other sites. UPS’ program is giving parents a much-needed helping hand and promoting good business practices.

In conclusion, UPS is expanding its emergency child care benefits for U.S.-based frontline workers, addressing retention challenges and providing essential support for their employees.
