The gender wage gap is a significant issue in most industrialized nations, with women earning 10-25 times more than men. This disparity can lead to a decrease in productivity and a potential increase in labor productivity by up to 3. A reduction in gender income inequality can boost labor productivity by up to 3 by eliminating Australia’s existing gender wage gap. The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2024 shows that progress for women has slowed overall, but employment rates are up. The Economic Participation and Opportunity gap has closed by, and the gender pension gap was over 28 in the EU in 2020. Reducing the gender pay gap can create greater gender equality, reduce poverty, and stimulate the economy as women would receive better allocation of female labor.
Much of the gender earnings gap is explained by gender differences in labor force attachment and accumulated labor market experience. The report does not consider trends in productivity due to lack of data. Eliminating the gender and inequality wage gap could raise women’s wages by 69. Research focusing on Black and Hispanic women shows that with an advanced degree, men are paid $1,998 and women $1,546.
The gender wage gap is a result of slow productivity growth and intensified global competition. A female worker that feels less valued because of the pay gap will likely underperform, as there is little incentive for her to go the extra mile. Sorting by gender at either the industry or firm level explains less than one-fifth of the overall wage gap. The gender wage gap reflects productivity differences, which can justify large gender wage gaps.

What does the gender pay gap cause?
The gender pay gap in the EU is a significant issue, with women at a higher risk of poverty and social exclusion at older age. The gap increases with age and family demands, while it is relatively low when women enter the labor market. Reducing the gender pay gap can create greater gender equality, reduce poverty, stimulate the economy, increase the tax base, and relieve some of the burden on welfare systems. In December 2022, EU companies agreed to disclose information to help expose gender pay gaps.
In March 2023, the Parliament adopted new rules on binding pay-transparency measures, requiring employers to conduct joint pay assessments with workers’ representatives if pay reporting shows a gender pay gap of at least 5.
How does the gender pay gap affect productivity?
The study reveals that women tend to work for less productive and lower-paying firms than men, with the gender wage gap opening up rapidly around the time women have children, as many switch to part-time work or work closer to home. The deadline for private sector firms with 250 or more employees is tomorrow to report their gender pay gaps, which must include information on bonuses and pay structure distribution. In the UK, women are paid nearly 20% less per hour than men, making this the fourth largest wage gap in Europe and having little change in the last decade.
What is the relationship between gender and productivity?
This paper investigates the correlation between gender equality, productivity, and employment in Chilean manufacturing firms from 2001 to 2007. The study uses data from the National Annual Industrial Survey conducted by the National Statistics Institute of Chile. The researchers found that high female participation in small firms significantly increases productivity, while for larger firms with more than 50 employees, only better gender equality among low-skill employees improves productivity.
The findings suggest that a more equalized distributed workforce between female and male workers does significantly lead to faster productivity growth, but it depends on the size of the firm and specific types of employees. To effectively promote a firm’s growth, different gender equality policies such as balancing welfare treatment between males and females or publicizing efforts to society should be considered. However, both the firm’s size and the types of employees must be considered.
High-skill employees are the leading force of small firms, while big firms consistently respond to all ordinary-level employees. Addressing gender inequality in the workplace is a global challenge, particularly in developing countries. The current indicator of male employees in Chile’s labor market is 80, which is an obvious result of existing inequality policies.
In conclusion, addressing gender inequality in the workplace is crucial for promoting productivity growth and fostering a more harmonious and efficient environment within businesses.
What job has the worst gender pay gap?
The Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) has released a report revealing that women earn less than men in all occupations, even those typically held by women. The study found that women only earn 71 of what men earn in financial managers, retail salespersons, education and childcare administrators, administrative assistants, and managers. The report also revealed that women are paid 84 cents for every dollar a man makes, a persistent gender wage gap that spans all professions, even those typically held by women.
What are the negative effects of the gender gap?
Gender inequality is a significant issue that affects girls and boys globally. Prior to the pandemic, girls were more likely than boys to face equal opportunities in education, with conflict, poverty, and other social disadvantages exacerbating this inequality. Girls living in countries affected by conflict are 2. 5 times more likely to be out of school than boys, with 9. 7 million children at risk of being forced out of school by the end of 2020.
Child marriage is another form of gender-based violence that drives inequality and discrimination. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated child marriage rates, with an estimated 1. 5 million girls at risk of marriage by 2025, the highest surge in nearly three decades. Gender-based violence occurs across all economic and social groups, with girls being particularly vulnerable. An estimated 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, mostly at the hands of their partners.
Child labor affects 152 million children globally, making it difficult for them to attend school or limit their attendance, putting them at risk of falling behind their peers. Girls are more likely to shoulder household chores, while boys are more likely to engage in harmful work like construction. Girls are usually pulled out of school earlier than boys and are more likely to face sexual exploitation and slavery.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future. Empowering girls from the start has lasting benefits over their lives, as they are experts in their own experiences, priorities, and needs, and can be powerful catalysts for a world where gender equality flourishes.
Does gender diversity increase productivity?
The latest analysis reveals that companies with greater diversity on their boards of directors are more likely to outperform financially, with a statistically significant correlation for both gender and ethnicity. Companies in the top quartile for board-gender diversity are 27% more likely to outperform financially than those in the bottom quartile, and those in the top quartile for ethnically diverse boards are 13% more likely to outperform. These findings support the hypothesis that diversity benefits extend across top corporate leadership to boards, where DEI policy decisions for the whole organization are often made.
The study also examined diversity in emerging and advanced economies, finding that while advanced economies see a much higher likelihood of outperformance for executive gender diversity, emerging economies have shown meaningful progress in recent years and may have the most to gain from increasing diversity. Since 2020, there has been the highest increase in diversity in a decade and more representation at the highest levels than ever before.
How gender inequality in the workplace affects productivity?
Sexism poses significant mental health risks to female employees, leading to burnout, decreased productivity, and increased remote work. Discrimination and harassment can also cause women of color to avoid the office due to isolation and discrimination. Exclusion of women from decision-making can hinder innovation and research and development. Promoting gender diversity, equity, and inclusion can increase employee engagement and retention, allowing companies to focus on innovation rather than hiring and training. By investing in their employees, companies can better support their diverse workforce and contribute to a more inclusive workplace.
What is the gender gap in productivity?
A study has found a significant gender gap in labor productivity, with women-run businesses being about 11% less productive than men-run businesses. This means that an extra worker in a women-run business generates about 11% less profit than an extra worker in a male-run business. The gender gap does not decrease when controlling for firm characteristics, including the broad sector in which the business operates.
The study uses decomposition techniques to separate the male-female productivity differential into a portion attributable to gender differences in firm traits and a portion that is structural, including returns to these endowments and unobserved factors. The study found five key results.
How does gender inequality affect earning power?
The discrepancy in labor force participation rates between men and women gives rise to income inequality, as earnings are unevenly distributed between the two genders.
What are the negative effects of the gender pay gap?
The gender pay gap is the difference between male and female earnings, affecting women’s lifetime earnings and pensions, and contributing to poverty in later life. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) collects data on earnings in the UK to calculate gender pay differences. In 2016, the average pay of women working full-time was only 90. 6 of men’s pay, with women stopping earning on 10th November 2016, referred to as Equal Pay Day. On average, a woman working full-time in 2016 earned £5, 732 less a year than a man.
The pay gap varies across sectors and regions, rising to up to 55 in the finance sector. In 2012, 64 of the lowest paid workers were women, contributing to women’s poverty and the poverty of their children.
Despite the gender pay gap gradually decreasing over time, recent reversals have occurred. In 2013, the average pay of women working full-time fell by 0. 9 to 84. 3, and for all workers, the gender pay gap was 19. 1, rising from 18. 6% the previous year. This means that for every £1 earned by a man in the UK, a woman earned only 81p. The gender pay gap is higher when part-time workers are included due to low hourly rates and occupational segregation.
Who is more productive at work male or female?
The data indicate that both men and women complete 66% of their assigned work. However, women are assigned 10% more than men, which suggests a higher level of industriousness in their work.

I think any reasonable person would arrive at the conclusion that there’s more to it than just claiming women get paid less than men. He makes an excellent point, and maybe someone can answer this for me; if women really do get paid less than men, why wouldn’t these “greedy” businessmen hire a bunch of women to save on labor cost and look like heroes? Why wouldn’t our work force be dominated by women if they cost less to employ? I long for the day when a liberal can truly grasp economics enough to understand this is complete bullshit.
Why was he always being cut off? She got to have her word, he allowed her to make her point, then he got about five seconds to talk before getting cut off by her, dso he let her speak again and got told to let her make her point, then he goes in to making his point after she finishes, and within ten seconds they cut him off again. Sigh It’s something I see feminists doing all the damn time. How can men expect to treat women as intellectually equal if you can’t debate on equal terms and have to resort to speaking over people so that their opposition cannot be heard, thus showing that they believe the higher voice is right more so than the voice of reason?
Pretty much every time someone like Maddow does the “the hey dont interrupt me and let me my point” thing they end up going on and on essentially filibustering the person who disagrees with them. Then get more outraged when the other person HAS to interrupt just to provide any counter argument to what’s being said. Which I imagine is the point. To get their opponent to just be quiet because a talking head on one of these shows only has so much time to make a point so if you can steal it away second by second then you win. Very very childish and unprofessional.
As a liberal woman this debate annoys me so much as there is no reason to even have it. Maddow couldn’t even counter Castellanos point on cost that actually supports our view that businesses do whatever to save money so why would women be exempt from that? Cause corporations just hate money earned by us crazy broads that much? Come on.
He’s absolutely correct. The correlation to pay differences is represented in stats. Men tend to work longer hours per week, work in skilled / trade labor far more often. I never walked into an office building seeing wall to wall men on phone head sets, and I never walked into a construction, engineer, warehouse and seen wall to wall women. It’s not fairly represented, the premise that it’s the “same work” is not even a half truth. It’s the same thing talking about CEO pay vs average employee wages growing further adrift then decades ago. The simple economic answer is that Americas labor force has changed from the 40’s and 50’s to today. We don’t make shit anymore. We are a nation of customer service and consumers. There is no town factory blowing lunch break whistles anymore. it’s not because CEO’s are getting greedier, it’s the business dynamics have changed so much. Wal-Mart is by far the largest single employer, look at it’s average employee base today… say in Detroit. Compare that to the average employee of 1940’s in Detroit when we were a nation of industry. The ratio is astronomical. Nationally speaking instead of having a CEO with several 100 or even thousands employees you now have millions, world wide. I think a lot of economic based arguments like social class envy is paper tiger arguments because the American Industry has been replaced with no skill customer service reps. Of course the gap between rich and poor is growing rapidly. It’s not political ideology of either side, it’s reality.
77¢ on the dollar is based on yearly salary of full time workers, it looks ONLY at pay, and assumes work is the same. We know men work on average 44 hours a week vs women 41 hours, that’s 7-8% gone right there. If you work more hours, I would guess you would be more likely to get promoted. Also, when you look at women who never had a family, they earn more than men, and when you look at young people, women earn more than men. It’s their choice regarding family that affects their wages, not some patriarcal conspiracy, and it’s a choice I fully respect, taking more time to be a better parent is a noble compromise, but that doesn’t mean you can have your cake and eat it too.
Here is the funny part, she has her own show, she is an author, and a political commentator. Yet she is saying women are making less money. SHE is making money because (just an assumption) she worked hard to get into a high paying career. So what does that tell me? It depends on what women choose as far as jobs. I have rarely seen a situation where the man and woman had equal time at the workplace, similar credentials, and the woman gets screwed. Just more anti-male drivel. In isolated cases there is discrimination but I see no reason to believer there is an organized “patriarchy” that tells every corporate entity to screw the women and have the men get more money. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
The wage gap between men and women is a MISLEADING statistic. 1) Women work less hours than Men, on average in a week 2) Men tend to make up most of the highest paying occupations 3) Women take time off work with Maternity leave. 4) Single Women actually make MORE money than single men. 5) Women make up most of the arts and humanities programs in University, which lead to less paying jobs. Some of these points can be argued that there is systemic gender issues that contribute to these differences in pay. Sure, we can have a conversation over that, like how there is less women in the sciences than men. However, to suggest an argument that Men make more than women, because of some intentional system to discriminate against women is BS!
No don’t tell me the reasons, I don’t want a honest discussion I want to cow tow a message to make the feminists nod in approval… And then talk about interrupting all while you are literally interrupting him. I’m just amazed at the level of delusion this person lives in and it shows how she choses to stay in it.
I own a construction business and I cannot pay a woman laborer the same as a man labor because a man can carry 4-2×8″x8′ boards on his shoulder and a woman can only carry two on her shoulder and no one a sells half Sheets of 3/4 plywood so I need someone to carry a whole 8 foot sheet it wouldn’t be fair to pay them the same. sorry in more most trades you just can’t compete with a man although is there are exceptions to the rule
“Women make 77% of what men make.” It’s shocking how precise this number is. It’s not 70%. It’s not 80%. It’s not even 75%. Where on earth does Rachel get this precise number from? Rule #1 of statistics: Unless you know WHERE data is collected, HOW it was collected, and WHO collected it, you should consider it highly questionable.
“No, DON’T interrupt me! That shows you’re trying to silence me. This is MY show & you need to shut up & let me dominate the show, just like Chris Matthews trained me to.” “Alright, let Rachel makes her point.” “See there? I’m right because David Gregory is here & says I am.” “When you point out that I am wrong, I will call you condescending.” Note to self: NEVER ALLOW CONSERVATIVES ON SHOW WHO CAN PROVE ME WRONG, EVEN WHEN I TALK OVER THEM. Other note to self: DO NOT LET THEM TALK AT ALL. PRACTICE TALKING OVER EVERY GUEST & DOMINATING EVERY CONVERSATION, JUST LIKE CHRIS TAUGHT ME. Additional Note: TRY TO NEVER HAVE ANY COSERVATIVE GUESTS AS THEY CAN ALL PROVE ME WRONG EVERY TIME ON EVERY ISSUE ! Reminder: GET HIGHER DOSE OF TESTOSTERONE SHOT…& WAX MUSTACHE MORE OFTEN. …”I wish I could reverse this sex change operation without anyone noticing? Dammit, shoulda never listened to the boys down at the gay bar ! ! !”
I like how she was afraid to break the numbers down. as she know damn well that men don’t take all the pregnancy and family time off that men do, nor do men take part time jobs at the same rate as women. She’s afraid of the truth and of course you could hear the NBC host trying to cut him off and say let her make her point(which she already had done) He was the one responding to her point. Of which they are Afraid of. Talk about Hypocrisy!!!
Any company that paid a woman less than a man of equal background doing the same job equally well would be already open for a lawsuit. The remedies are already there. Men and women are paid differently on the whole because they aren’t working the same type of jobs. Fewer women enter the high pay professions with a higher risk of death, for example.
Being a former 70s sitar playing hippie who lived on a commune and got high constantly for years I feel overly qualified to say that there are no more hostile (covertly normally), condescending and closed minded people than the liberals, and Maddow proves my point with every word. The “77 cents on the dollar” sound byte is typical unsubstantiated bullshit she tosses off with that condescending phony academia attitude. Yes Professor Beefnibble, tell us more…
Their are two types of wage rate. Variable and fixed. Fixed wage rates are 25k per year or $8 an hour, for example, these rates are fixed and are not different for men and women. So the Variable wage rates are the section that allow for different wages for people doing ‘the same job’. These are commission/performance related pay jobs. You will find that the gender pay gap only arises in these types of jobs as they are by nature the only jobs that allow for ‘different wages for people doing the same work’. Yes the gender pay gap exists, but through nothing other than the fact that in performance/commission based jobs, men out performed women. Creating a pay gap between Genders. Its not sexist. Men are not chauvinistic pigs. Its not ‘oppressive’. Why are we even giving feminism the time of day? Its main ideology is debunked in an instant and is accepted by no one other than those that do not think for themselves. Anyone who does think for themselves will immediately see the stupidity of its premises. What is feminism even aiming towards? To eradicate performance/commission based pay because men out perform women?
Very well done on his part, He stayed calm throughout, even when she tried to interrupt him (RIGHT after chiding him for interrupting her:) And her argument was PURPOSELY deceptive. She quotes the 77cents on the dollar figure, and then tosses in a FALSE “for equal work” modifier in the middle of her sentence, then goes on and on for a couple more sentences, hoping that her lie would be far enough in the past to avoid challenge. I am CERTAIN Maddow knows that when you account for things like “equal work”, that 77cents number goes up drastically. She knows that, but is just being a “non-male dog”:)
Here’s the problem with Rach’s point…she tries to validate women’s desire for greed and selfishness like men. No Women when it comes to talking about unfair pay is talking about Janitorial Work, Food Service Work, Secretarial Work, etc. They only want to have the same jobs and get pays the same way as the heartless, chauvinistic, corporate CEOs. Talking about breaking the Augusta Country Club barrier. Ladies proving your equal to men doesn’t mean being the same douchbags as those same CEO’s and Underlings. If your complaining that the Assholes who run these companies don’t wanna pay you fairly…then haven’t you answered you own question why they don’t?
@mrkrabappleson, do you seriously not understand? Ok then, let me spell it out for ya: A man works a 40 hour week at a law firm in a city somewhere. A woman works the same job, same hours, for a different firm in the same building. According to the DATA FROM THE CENSUS BUREAU, on average, the woman gets paid less. Not “man works more, takes less vacations, bullshit bullshit bullshit.” (if it’s not bullshit, site a source for your “factual statistics”) For any given job, for the same amount of time, a woman will get paid less. Was that simple enough? Do you understand now why some women are upset about this? (and stupid YouTube must have JUST changed the way their comment system works, because I can’t Reply to any comment which existed before this one)
Rachel Madcow has no problem interrupting him but don’t dare interrupt her, her fasle statements are obviously more important…..But no, it is ILLIGAL to pay women less, if you have a man working the same exact job as a woman they will both get the same per hour (unless one gets a raise) if not the woman would sue…
There is no way that you can get statistics on this argument. Unless you have a man and a woman who are applying for the same exact job, that they both have the same exact college degree, same GPA, same years of experience are you going to be able to claim that a man gets paid more for that same job. In order to prove that you have to use those stats I stated. it’s all bull shit. If a guy and girl bid on same job, the employer is going to look at their, degree, their experience. The job posted doesn’t have two sets of pay, one for a guy and one for a girl. This is so ridiculous.
Civil rights act. It is illegal to pay women less for the same job. There is no legal way to pay women less. In fact, if you are woman and are paid less than a man in the same position, with the same hours in and the same hours off, same level of expertise, and all that, if you are in fact the equal of the other guy, then you can sue your employer and you can cite this law. However if you make less because you choose a lesser paid job, work less hours, take out more vacation/sick days/days off then I think it would be very unfair to pay that woman the same as a man who works more, harder, longer and in a more productive profession. The mere thought that we should put all wages in one big bag and distribute them all equally among the genders sounds a lot like communism to me and will kill any sense of ambition to do good, because you will get the same no matter how hard or long you work. I have a feeling Comrade Maddow will never get this though, neither will many women because they use feelings to decide what is right, not reason and evidence.
For the same work? There are so many factors. Like for teaching, there are different factors that play into that. H Yea the type of school, the type of district u work in can dictate pay, the amount of hours even working in those same jobs (cuz I read that in nursing, even when women dominate that category, men work more hours), and plus there are more men overall working than women.
She keeps saying that 77 cents stat is for the same work, that is just not fucking true, it is the average earnings of men and women, is it that hard for her to understand that if on average women take lower paying jobs and on average work less hours, then on average they will make less. And if a woman works a higher paying job than a man, or works more hours than a man, she will fucking make more. How can that be so hard to comprehend?
it’s like making a statement that paying for a Ferrari is so much more costly than paying for a Ford Fiesta and you have a problem with it because you think it’s unfair, and your solution is for Ferrari to be priced the same as a Ford Fiesta. if you are blindly refusing to acknowledge that Ferrari is more expensive because its design and performance are better, than you are just acting like an uneducated person. you need to examine the factors so you can understand why.
He raises a valid point though. By statistics, do more Men work in fields that pay better than women? Of course there are women in every single field of employment. But when you average it all out, more men may be doctors, lawyers, bankers, engineers, scientists, etc. than females. It may not be an issue of your female employee working next to your male employee and the man always makes more than his equal-level colleague. It could perhaps be that statistically men work in higher fields of pay than women. Not trying to be sexist here and this guy in the article may be wrong about that. I’m just saying that it can be a valid point.
You can just sense her fear, and even the host’s fear, of allowing him to make his point. If she had ANY standing, any TRUE belief in her stance, she would GLADLY allow him to put forth his argument and then fairly tell him why she believes he is mistaken. And her claim that he was not allowing her to make her point? And the host backing that idea up? The moment he began to share his reasons for why he felt she was wrong, she turned into a erratic raving lunatic speaking over him, in the end, misrepresenting his words that did come through. It’s absolutely SHAMEFUL…but at the same time, it is a reflection of her, and ALL new personality’s EXACT job…but also the ILLEGITIMACY of the messages delivered to us.
You stated what you thought was a fact and he was going to give you the real facts. The real facts are different than a liberal facts. But you just can’t handle that. The house has passed a bill for women to get equal pay in sports when they represent the United states. That’s absolutely ridiculous. The Olympics are dependent on monies from a lot of different individuals, big and small business, and other groups who care choose to give their charitable sports. But what about television advertising and even print advertising. If women’s soccer or basketball doesn’t bring in enough money how can they make equal pay. It was just downright stupid that our government passed this law. There’s just too many variables and why did no one think about the monies and where they come from. You can’t write out a check if there’s no money in the bank.
I can’t stand her. If women are making less than men, which they’re not btw, for EQUAL work then that would be ILLEGAL..!! All she wants is to put out incomplete information to further her agenda and start arguments with the incomplete info she has and not listen to FACTS and ACTUAL numbers to confuse and blindly lead viewers away from the TRUTH..!!
Good Lord, don’t you people ever check facts? She’s exactly right and he’s spouting nonsense. If you disagree, prove her wrong, but prove it with facts, not some blowhard’s wishful thinking. What in hell is the “marraige factor”, and how is that relevant to what women earn vs. men? Fact: women earn 77% on the dollar as men for the SAME JOBS.
I’ve got to commend Castellanos. He was calm and courteous to Maddox the whole time. When she said “that’s very condescending” that was when I would’ve said “All right Maddow, you’re an emotionally-driven argumentative embarrassment to journalism who probably would still be declaring the “10% of your brain” myth if you thought it somehow oppressed women.”
I’m trying to be optimistic, so here’s what I think of the 321 dislikes: 1- Rachel Maddow 10- people who haven’t accepted the pay gap myth’s debunking 10- people who have some data that a pay gap might exist in SOME parts of the country 300- people laughing so hard at her getting schooled they hit the wrong button
As a mid level manager at an F200 corporation, I made more than at least two of my male supervisors to their horror and one’s dismay. He was particularly dismayed at my choice of vehicles, a lovely and powerful used Cadillac, bringing up at a staff meeting, “Why that car?” HTG. He didn’t mind the Wrangler Sahara and missed the theme behind all my vehicles: Kiss my red, white and blue ass. In my experience if you do the work, you’ll get the money no matter sex, race, etc.
Where are people like Rachel Maddow when the reverse is true, i.e. a Female Engineer with 2 years of experience making $4K more annually than a male counterpart with 2 more years of experience? Or, what if Rachel Maddow earns more than some of her male colleagues? Can she disprove Equal Pay for Equal Work there?
It has to be willful ignorance. ANYONE who looks at the information* can easily see the reason that the average man earns more than the average woman. The reason is obviously hours worked and career chosen. As far as pay for: 1. Same job 2. Same hours worked 3. Same/similar experience the pay is the same. *you could take a shortcut and use common sense instead of looking at the information.
is she even still around? I didn’t even know MSNBC was still on the air…I wonder if that colored man with the giant head..he’s a reverend of some sort is still there…he was the gift that keeps on giving..Tawana Brawley ring a bell anybody? Anyway I thought I thought Rachel mandow was still curled up under her bed since the election
I’m so sick of the myth of the pay gap being thrown in our face… Where is this pay gap? Not union jobs which pay union scale… That’s your nurses your teachers etc. It’s not government or military their pay is set on scales of pay-grades tears and steps with advancement guaranteed through merit and longevity so when it comes down to it an E3 makes the same as an E3 regardless of what they’re packing in their growing same as an SES1/GS13 making the same as an SES1/GS13 no matter what their packing between their legs… so it must come down to positions were people negotiate for their salary… Negotiate better. Rachel Maddow and the rest of the liberal elites do not have a leg to stand on on this issue because it is patently demonstrably and absolutely false!
A very simple question of basic mathematics . Eg, i drive a bus and i work 40hrs a week for $400, my coleague who also drives a bus and works 30hrs a week for $300 make sence to me . If my coleague increases his/her hrs from 30 to 40hrs a week then he/she will also be payed $400 a week . Same job same hours same resonsabiliys same pay . If that is not fair and equal, the i have completly lost the plot
You know the sad facts though, I’ve only worked in places and know of other businesses where a majority of corporate offices with HR and Payroll employees have women in these positions… So if there is this so called pay gap, the women in control of telling their bosses they see an issue, are either not seeing an issue (because there isn’t one, they know everyone is getting paid what they should be) or because they collectively as women, are holding themselves back and paying men more. Now which one seems more realistic? 😂
Her theory incorrectly assumes that even with identical job titles, men and women bring identical value to the marketplace. A man and a woman,,, same job… same education… same knowledge base…Except, that after an equal amount of investment and training in both employees, it is more often than not that if one of them is going to get pregnant and take several months off of work, most likely it will be the woman. So even after all that time, with equal amounts invested in training,etc.. they still do not, nay, cannot, bring equal amounts of value. The employee does NOT own the job… the Employer owns that job, and is free to do with it as they will. No one Ever became more valuable to an employer by simply demanding it.
I do app ops and dev ops, and there are very very very few women into the sciences and programming. There are some, but not that many – and by choice, not because we won’t hire them. We make more, 6 figures and such. Comparing us to women who choose to, say, go into bar tending or something, it’s generalized, the numbers that Maddow spits. They’re comparing people who don’t do the same things. The ONE woman in my group joined 2 years ago, was paid more than most here, and got promoted to manager. When more positions came open, there wasn’t a single woman that applied.
Better to ask her a question when he got the time instead of just saying you are wrong. Imagine a hypothetical where we’re discussing nuclear disarmament they toss me the question, do you think we should start reducing our number of nuclear warheads? I start talking about the nuclear weapon that was detonated over Utah would you let me finish discussing two or three minutes of the negative outcomes of that event or would you interrupt me to ask me questions about what the heck happened? I think you would want to know what weapon this was and what happened and you would tell me it didn’t…. much like I tried to explain to you that your argument was entirely invalid because it was based on incorrect information.
Don’t interrupt me while I interrupt everyone else!! How about women models! Make 10k times what Male models can ever dream of making. How about in business, a woman can make deals happen on looks alone in the board room. My aunt is a business woman, all she has to do is show up and look attractive, deal is done. Many more examples can be made just like those on a variety of jobs.
If women make a lesser pay, why big business and small business don’t employees more of them? It is cheaper to employed women right? Lesser pay mean lesser cost for the company…the question is, would women be willing to work more with that lesser pay? I’m finding a hard time finding a women who want to operate my farming machine.
I love Rachel but I believe the math is all wrong.how are women grading this, hourly, yearly? It seems men’s are looking at number of hours spent on the job. I fail to see how women are only making 77cents to the dollar that men make? How is that figured out?In all my adult life I have seen both make the same hourly and salary. What are we missing?
If women performed a job exactly as a man can, but be paid less, what employer would be crazy to hire any man? Any job which requires physical strength cannot be done equally by a woman. I saw that in construction where woman always got the light weight jobs, but were paid the same as men. Women can complain all they want about “women can do the same job as men.” Not when it applies to physical strength.
O boy, where the hell is the world going towards. People shafting logic and reason over bullshit. It is amusing at one level but it also makes me restless. I mean how can a person be so …… Selfish. Yes that’s what she proved. She is propagating what suits her agenda. Hopefully people have the wits to go past such stuff and live a happy life. The only saving grace of this article is the comment section. God bless us all.
Maddow is educated . She can converse well and has a certain degree of wit . Unfortunately she is extremely liberal in the sense that when it comes to her points of view they’re biased to the point of not making sense . She’s motivated by one thing ; Emotion . This is the epitome of non-journalism . Sad to say she is actually quite ignorant . When she is challenged by facts she has only one way of dealing with them ; talk over your opponent . Yeah, that’s ignorance .
Women would have a much better argument if they agreed that they are interested in different types of jobs that pay slightly less and those specific types of jobs should pay a bit better to even things out because jobs like being a nurse are tough and very important jobs. Instead they just pretend all these statistics don’t matter and/or don’t exist. Bizarre.
I’m sick of hearing this talking point about women making 77 cents for every one dollar men make. In the aggregate – sure men make more money than women. But when one accounts for certain factors such as average hours worked per week, average amount of time taken off per year, or the types of career fields men and women tend to choose – the aggregate difference in pay makes sense. Men and women tend to have different attitudes towards work-life balance and they therefore tend to make different choices over the courses of their careers. These choices ultimately afect a person’s earnings. If one controls for all of these differences and actually compares apples to apples, the gender pay gap becomes exposed as the bullshit myth that it truly is.
how hard is it if a woman earned 1000 a month and a man earned 1500 a month, then yes the woman earns less than a man for each dollar. but why do they refuse to look at hours worked? agreed upon wages with the employer ( if the woman at the start of the contract asks for less money than the man does, it’s her own fault. obviously if a an employer would be willing to pay 1800 a month but she asks for 1500 a month, the employer will instantly agree to that.)
“I love how passionate you are and I wish you were as right about what you are saying as you are passionate about it, i really do” Take note boys, outrage is bullshit, just because you are outraged doesn’t mean shit but this day and age being outraged somehow gives you a pedestal that is seen by many as equal to factual information. This is a ‘How to’ demonstration on swiftly cutting down that pedestal and splintering it into a thousand pieces, enjoy!
Rachel Maddow is a moron. Women choose jobs like hairdressers and secretaries and nurses and dental hygienists and retail jobs that’s why the average doesn’t work out. She wants to Omit all of the factors why women make less she just doesn’t think they’re important at all if they make less that’s the only thing that matters any reasons behind that don’t even matter. And maybe men should make more money than women we are the ones that have to go off to war and get killed or the ones that have to build your cities and risk Our Lives doing it women aren’t getting killed on the job every year unless they’re a police officer and that’s a small small portion of work-related deaths so Rachel Maddow can go fuck herself as she cries about the pay Gap will she made from millions of dollars a year
As Reched Madcow says he’s interrupting while she’s speaking, she is interrupting while he was speaking. Anytime someone with a differing opinion speaks they feel compelled to shout them down. This is not a compelling counterpoint. If she were to keep an open mind instead of her mouth open she may learn something.
Maddow says first that women make 77 cents for every dollar men make. Then she says that women make less than men for equal work. These are two separate arguments. The first assertion is likely true, but the second one certainly is not. Simply because as a society, for example, we do not pay nurses like we pay engineers, regardless of gender. In fact, I would assert that the pay difference between a female engineer and a male nurse is greater than the difference between a male engineer and a female nurse, on average.
Where I worked, there were 100 of us. A man had to wait for a test to open up and then take the test and pass the test and get on a list and wait for an opening. A woman could walk up and demand a test and get on the list any day she wanted. 100 of us and not a single woman amongst us even with the huge advantage they were given.
So she’s kinda leading it on a socialist idea out of pure denial. Even if you work less than a man, in fields that on average earn less money you should still be paid the same as a man even if you work less hours and so fourth. So if women work in identical fields with identical hours to men they would be earning unsubstantially more than a man.
