A secular lifestyle refers to a way of living that is not guided by religious or spiritual beliefs. It can have implications for a person’s ethical beliefs and actions. A secular lifestyle is defined as living one’s life without belief in supernatural beings, entities, or realms, engaging in religious behaviors, and not identifying with any particular church, mosque, synagogue, ashram, or temple walls. This concept is often referred to as the sacred/secular divide.
There are two main ways people become secular: either they were raised in nonreligious homes and their secularity is a matter of socialization, or they chose to. Professor Zuckerman explores the moral and ethical foundations of secularism, addressing the growing number of Americans who identify as religious “nones”. According to a 2024 Pew Research Study, more than 1 in 4 Americans now identify as religious “nones”, meaning they are not part of a religion.

Desecularization in Russia takes place only at the verbal level, concealing a profound secularisation of religious institutions and organizations, understood as their total subordination to state policy objectives and becoming elements of the state structure.
The author focuses on the evolution of the legal situation and the place in public life of the ROC, which is the largest religious organization in Russia. Orthodoxy is still portrayed as a vital element of Russian national identity and politically involved.
What are secular beliefs?

However, secularists also claim that religious organizations enjoy certain privileges that are often unfair and unjustified because they are not open and freely available to all citizens regardless of their beliefs. For example, in the United Kingdom, religious authorities are granted benefits that are not available to other social groups, such as trade unions or nonreligious charities. In Germany, the state automatically deducts a “church tax” from registered members of many religious denominations as part of its public subsidies for religion unless members expressly opt out.
In conclusion, secularist campaigners argue that religious views and organizations have enjoyed an excessively privileged and protected status for too long, and that they are no more deserving of special treatment than any other sectional interest group.

Agnostic atheism is a philosophical position that encompasses both atheism and agnosticism. Agnosticism is the view that the existence of God, the divine or the supernatural is unknown or unknowable in principle or fact. I agree with the article but I would also go further and say that need to be careful of the artist who is singing a particular song. They might be singing songs that do not go against the Bible but what is their personal lifestyle like. Most of the secular songs I listen to contain positive lyrics that helped comfort me during hard times, but it has been a struggle for me since those songs weren’t Christian, but I felt inspired and grateful whenever I listened to them. I give praise to God, even when the song wasn’t made for it. The artists behind the songs are actually Christians, and with inspirational life experiences I really find motivating. However, I still felt guilty and searched for content that talked about this, and right when he said the scripture Phillipians 4:8, I instantly felt tears in my eyes and the only thing that crossed my mind was that the songs were not the problem. They were good songs that helped me get through a situation, but the point here is where my focus truly is. Now I feel better, knowing that my fav songs are not against God, but the way I focus on it is. Putting God first and foremost before any of those songs and lifestyles is the key. Praise the Lord.

There is a lot of Christian metal bands out there that are so good with positive messages as well as secular metal too. Also I listen to a lot of prog metal which most of the time is just instrumental. It’s pretty easy to discern what would be ok to listen to and what you shouldn’t; most of the time it’s pretty black and white

Do you think secular music would seriously sound good in God’s ears? if not (which it’s not) than why should Christians listen to it? i think Christians fall into a mindset of “not doing certain things/abstaining from this”, we should press on to DO what is good/righteous/holy. Listening to secular isn’t necessarily bad, but why would you want to listen to it, when there are other songs that praise our Lord. In 1983, he did a Deut with The Freshly Divorced Tina Turner (a Survivor of Domestic Violence, to raise money for The Ethiopian Famine, in 1983. For the most part Bryan is an solo Artist in the music industry Bryan Adams is also a Photographer he donates his Photo’s to raise Money for Breast Cancer Research for Women. In 1985, We Are The World album was created to also help People in Africa, with The Ethiopian Famine, still going on since, 1983 of course, my Mom bought Me The Album. God definitely approve because The Variety of Artist’s singing on that Album Live they couldn’t up with a Song until about I think they said less than 2 minutes or two hours to Perform. Blessings brother, I really appreciate your articles. A lot of what you teach is really awesome because of the way you explain it and back it up with scripture. Thank you for that. I do want to share with you that I absolutely love music. Before God found me and changed my life I did listen to all kinds of secular music, hip-hop, rap, R&b, Rock, Disco, techno, very little country, very little heavy metal, very little blues. Once God found me and change me and I started listening to Christian music, I started exploring all kinds of Christian music. I have come to find out that some Christian music is not Christian at all when you listen to the words and the meaning of what they’re portraying. I have also learned that there is some really good Christian rock, Christian heavy metal, Christian country, Christian club music, Christian R&b, and so forth and so on. I believe that because this world has so many different generes of music that God uses the different generes to reach people. For example somebody who just likes heavy metal will not listen to a southern gospel Christian song but if there is a Christian message in the heavy metal song with the beat that they’re used to and like, they will listen to it and God can possibly use that to change and transform that individual. Just thought I would share this with you because of the fact that I agree with what you said about music but I also know that there are Christian music and different kinds of generes even if it’s music that we don’t normally like or listen to.

Hey Daniel, you are doing great and wonderful and through you a lot of people come to Jesus, I am sure! And what you are preaching I can agree with almost everything. Just one little part, I see different. But I don’t want to argue, just show how I experienced it. When I was young 18 – 22 I often went to disco and danced and yes I drank alcohol. But singing this songs, I knew they were wrong. And once I started singing in tongues and I am still doing it, on many songs. Sometimes so called christian songs, are religious and it is even hard to sing in tongues. But then they are songs, where you really feel they sing with the whole heart (BTS f.e.) and there is joy and than it makes so much more fun, to sing along in tongues. It could be even bad lyrics, with singing in tongues I feel the holy spirit and there is peace, joy and happiness. For me it is like praying against it, when there is bad lyrics. But of course I try not to choose such songs. So I want to end this, with keep going on Daniel. You are doing so great and it is a pleasure to listen to the wisdom, God gave you. I am a devout Christian who loves certain metal bands. A Swedish band called Sabaton dedicates all of their songs to the history of warfare, not to glorify war but to educate listeners to true historical battles and scenerios, most often in a negative light. I believe we should always use discretion to make sure the music we do listen to does not glorify the Evil One or his worldly sinful authority.
As a friend once told me; Instruments do not define Him. I listen (still) to secular music, more now than ever but I’m more on the power metal side, because I find far more comfort in the music alone than I ever would in churches or the Bible (no offense) because the Bible feels hollow to me and churches have gotten rather troublesome for the most parts lately.

Guys this is my testimony regarding listening to secular music So I’d watched many articles prior which advised Christians not to listen to secular music But I wasn’t convinced, so I prayed to God to reveal it to me if it was okay to listen to secular music After this, I listed to songs from BTS and Blackpink as soon as I was done. I felt this heaviness all over my body which stayed for several day before it left. After that, I dreamt that I was perusal a music article of a famous person, the music was nice, so I started dancing. I saw that behind the scenes of the article they were doing rituals and witchcraft. then demons started coming out of the screen into the room which I was. Then I woke up God had given me an answer: NO, it’s not okay to listen to secular songs and we also need to be careful when choosing articles and movies we watch

I personally listen to classical music and even then I make sure of where and why the song was composed and who the composer was. Even operas or symphonies have surprisingly shocking true stories behind them. In my younger days as organist, certain churches prohibited me from playing the Wedding March from Mendelsohn’s “A Midsummer night’s Dream”.
I used to love secular music a lot.. one day I had a dream of demons behind the artist and recording them. This dream woke me up in the middle of the night. So it was a wake up call for me to not intentionally get myself drawn to it. Sometimes it’s truly so hard to live in this world, where almost everything we love in flesh are not from God. my self takes place in a Christian environment but lurking with a lot and i mean a lot of sinful nature with judgmental parents, racist brother, and a drunk uncle And guess what guys i cried and turned away from god so many time, but i still went crawling back to god so many times and thats how i know that i still have spirit in me and he has shown me his power for example my other uncle that we have living with us was really sick and he just moved in town and had only one more job interview so i prayed literally out of nowhere when i was done praying my uncle got a call telling him he got the job and the very next day he was not sick anymore
People always say I’m not listening to the words I really just like the beat. The words mean nothing. Ok then why is it a person will hear a song from their past, even 20-30 years later and when they hear the song they will start to sing or hum along. Even jingles from a commercial, a theme song from a tv show or a movie stick in your brain for years. They’ve done studies and proven that words put to music will help people to remember the words. Most songs actually start off as a poem. Think about the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, they took that melody and put the alphabet to it so it would help children remember the alphabet. How many times as an adult when you are saying the alphabet do you actually start to sing the tune. What most people don’t know is that the melody from Twinkle Twinkle was actually a classical piece before it became a nursey rhyme. Its been around for centuries. Go ahead try it, think of a song’s lyrics without singing it. Difficult huh? Now add the music and wa-la there it is. So yes the music we listen to does sink into our brains and can even effect our mood. It is important as a believer to put good thoughts into our mind. Garbage in garbage out.

I listen to electronic music almost every single day. I personally think it’s not a sin. I mean if you think about it, it’s just a bunch of instruments put together. Some people may not agree because of the way some songs are made (high BPM, unfamiliar or aggressive vibe like electro house, hard techno, hardstyle, etc.) I used to listen to most of the genres out there. But lately I started to get away from songs that have singers and rappers in them as they mostly sing about love, sex and flashy lifestyle. There’s even some electronic music with topics like this and I started to delete them one by one from my playlist. Every time I hear a rap, pop or even EDM song with that kind of stuff in it I just feel sick. It feels cringe and repulsive to me. It makes me think of every mistake I ever made, makes me remember them (like how I was in love with the wrong girls, had sex or masturbated then regret it later) and all this just fills me with hate and anger. I don’t need that. If I turn on the radio, go to mall or check out the trending page on youtube it’s all there. Love, sex and flexing, more than 90% of mainstream music is about this. They just won’t come up with other ideas. So I mostly just listen to EDM without lyrics. It’s something else.
I am a Christian and mostly listen to secular music. However, I do not listen to anything with bad language, bad themes etc. There is plenty of good music out there that is pure and good that is not Christian. I listen to Christian music, but very little. Most of what is out there is very depressing to listen to. The message is usually negative and the way the songs are sung is depressing. I think God would rather we dwell on the goodness of Him rather than constantly singing about how we are not worthy. If you are born again, you become worthy because He has approved you. I really like Lincoln Brewster for this reason, his music is more positive and upbeat and he steers away from the depressing sound and lyrics. However it is interesting that this topic always comes up with music only. What about movies and tv shows? There are very few Christian tc shows and movies to choose from, so I guess most Christians do not watch? I can’t tell you how many people I know, that will only listen to Christian music, call out people who listen to secular, but then go home and watch Game of Thrones without missing an episode. I have never understood why music is attacked so hard, but not tv or movies.
Everybody talking about paying attention to the Lyrics and the content or the main message on the songs we listen, when in reality the type of music is where the real poison is, there are some rhythmic patterns like blues, jazz and country ( the 3 music styles that gave birth to rock music ), among others that just by listening the music itself without any lyrics, those music styles are capable to make you want to party, drink or have sex or make you violent or depressed, also many of rock rhythms come from voodoo black magic, like the blues The devil fools with the best laid plans, never forget that my christians brothers and sisters.

Sure there is metal music that’s evil and overly gloomy or satanic (lot of black metal), but not for 100%. There are also a lot of metal bands which have very inspirational, deep and uplifting messages/lyrics. Or bands that are very focused on Secular or Christian storytelling. Heck, even a lot of well known metal musicians are Christian! (Tommy Iommi from Black Sabbath, Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden, Dave Mustain from Megadeth, Roy Khan from Kamelot/Conception etc.). Don’t take this the wrong way; there is evil music, that’s a fact. I agree with that. But writing off a whole genre is a bit to much, I think. But those are my two cents. God bless you. 😉👍🙏
I’ve never thought anything about songs having meanings, until I found out about the Lord. Every since then, I’ve always listened closely to the lyrics of the songs. I have 2 little brothers that both listen to music, and I try my best to prevent them to listen to secular songs. My youngest brother, specifically loves to listen to Nicki Minaj’s songs, and I try to prevent him.
I really don’t like music, except instrumentals, it makes me calm and I discover Godly music praises to the Lord and when I sang through my heart and feel the lyrics and meaning I always get goosebumps and my heart is filled with joy of pleasure that no porn or drinks can satisfy. Such a nice work, thanks, but I would like to add something, know this that songs have messages and spirit who propel / markets those songs across the world, be careful of the singers, not all gospel songs come from JESUS, some are sung by OCCULTIST, they call jesus, but not the true CHRIST, not all songs which encourages you are fit for your spiritual growth, the only songs that pleases CHRIST, are songs in heaven that are passed to human in earth, not songs that originates the world from earth, gospel songs must first come from heaven before they are brought to earth by the Holy Spirit, now any song that is not brought down to earth by the Holy Spirit is demonic, however good it sounds, as long as it can’t lead you to enternal life it is demonic so keep away from such songs .
I’ve always listened to a lot of death metal with very satanic lyrics and go against God, but through wanting to play death metal (which I wasn’t going to praise Satan or anything in my lyrics, I was going to write about ancient history) I met some Wonder Christian people in a guitar class and they brought me to know Jesus in a bible study they started, but I still listen to Deicide, Morbid Angel, Necrophobic, which are very Satanic bands, but it’s going to sound crazy, but I feel closer and talk to Jesus when listening to this music, it’s the only sound that really comforts me, and I think that’s especially since without death metal and the influence it had on me, I wouldn’t have been in that group of people, or the bible study. And these people in these bands, I’ve actually met in some intense bands, and are some of the most amazing and wonderful people I’ve met, and I’ve talked about God with them and some hate it, but some respect my opinion on it because even though I like satanic death metal, I’m faithful to Jesus. But I also listen to Extol and Mortification, which are Christian metal bands. I hope you understand, I feel like God has put me here in death metal to help people or to be an example of someone who loves Jesus to others who’ve never known him, ya know? It feels like if I know about these bands and enjoy them, it’ll help me relate to those who don’t know Jesus but love metal, and I can be an example of a Christian to them
I’m mostly a heavy metal guy although i like country gospel songs too, but i don’t listen to roaring and growling metal, i prefer metal songs that are sing with melodies and harmonies, along with lyrics inspired from the Bible and i feel deep down in my soul it helps and build up my heart, like you said, what’s important is the purpose that a particular song serve, and i feel it does…. i also listen to instrumental songs also and mostly acoustic guitar instrumental that inspires and you know that even an instrumental song can tell a story/inspiration/confidence in it and that’s beautiful…
I think it should just at least be balanced. Listen to both. Just stay away from music that promotes sinful behaviors/actions/lifestyles. That love song you cant stop listening to?pay attention to the lyrics. A love song can easily be about a woman trying to have an affair with a man who is spoken for (a real Ariana Grande song).
For me there’s 3 categories 1 music that does not support the bible and its themes stuff about sex and drugs as well as having cursing 2 neutral music things such as workout music an example being songs like skillets monster or imagine dragons song beliver 3 music that supports the bible such as Christian music or songs that promote things that are good in the bible
Anything that separates you from your relationship with God is a sin. If listening to secular music does that then it is a sin for you whether it us a sin for me or not. However, you should ask yourself where the music is taking you mentally and emotionally. If you are listening to music that takes you to a place where you are tempted to lust, murder, arson, or sin in any other way you need to ask yourself why you are opening a door into your psyche for sin to get a foothold.
You have to use discernment in what you allow to enter into the ear gates and eye gates of your soul. I’ve heard secular artists from different genres try to integrate a Christian themed song into their set while every other song that they sing is or relates only to the human experiences of this life and of this world system (which satan has set up) which is at war with GOD and the true reality of the way GOD intended human existence to be. If Christians are to listen to any kind of music, it should that which keeps their focus on their Christian walk and in growth. Any time music is used to calm or give someone serene moods, it is being used as a form of self healing like meditation and therefore goes against GOD and how He designed us. We are to rely on Him for all things and deny self reliance. It’s extremely important that Christians keep their focus on GOD every moment of every day and to be around other Christians whether in person and talking to them on the phone verbally daily as well in corporate weekly services, prayer services, and church social activities to strengthen their faith and become one in unity.

Good Morning everybody, I’m a Soldier in the US Army, and I’m also an Equal Opportunity Leader who loves music and I’m also Christian. I listen to all kind of music which praises the Lord like Hillsong, Bethel and others. One group that actually change my perspective is a Rock band named Stryper, I was judging the music because of it’s genre but when I listen to the lyrics I realized, that was their way to worship God, with a positive message and no in morality. I’m open minded with music but I don’t deviate from the root of what is good, praise the Lord and to Him All Glory. Bless everyone and live full of joy in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.🙏🏾
Jesus listens to everything because He’s God and everywhere at once. Those are His children still and He knows what they’re doing. He may not like what they’re doing or their music, but I know He sure loves them so much and wants to save them 😊🙏🏾 Not saying that we should or shouldn’t listen to it but there are even Christian rock and metal bands and when I was away from God, those artists were the only ones who could reach me at that time. Did I stay and continue to listen to that after I cane back to God? No, but I know that it helped me see Him because it was about Him. The words were His but maybe the instrumentation’s was a bit controversial. I know God is a God of peace so that’s why I don’t fully agree with metal and rock, but I still take into account peoples upbringings. I also say not to use excuses to stay in a situation nice you’ve reached a certain point in your journey.

i listen to heavy metal alot. although many of them are not according to the bible but it doesnt shake my faith or make me want to draw myself away from my believes. In fact as harsh as the music pronounce itself, it speaks of truth and reality of life that many would rather ignore or completely pretend it doesnt exist. Most heavy metal bands get inspiration to write their music from everyday life such as, wars, politics, discrimination amongst sociatey, racial segregation, poverty, greedy leaders that take from the poor. Many of these i believe speaks indirectly to the scripture that would have said to a reader just in a different manner. Oh and just to let you know, there is such thing as heavy metal christian too. Im not trying to justified by saying that heavy metal is a type of song that would be approve easily in the mainstream or religiously but many fail to try and want to see the other side of it. There is no way to make it sugar-coated to inspire people to let them listen to secular music. Here’s my perspective as a spiritual person and a Christian who listens to all kinds of music (including worship music) music is a vibration. It is also a expression. If a song is relatable to how you feel then it’s your song. For example I feel sad and broken sometimes so I listen to people that feel the same way. And I pray to god. I also like my fair share of gospel. But you need your balance. Not all heavy metal is satanic. Some of it is Christian. I personally need those vibrations because it helps my anger. I also need my fair share of sad melancholic rap beats/songs. I also need worship music. It all depends on your mood. Music speaks in different ways. Secular music is essential listening for everyone.
It was a little awkward when you said to not listen to heavy metal because i very much listen to all kinds if Christian rock, heavy metal, and punk that eithe glorfies the Lord and has a powerful testimony to relate to. I’m neither right or wrong. Its just my opinion. But I’ve always believed that praise and worship is not limited to the genre labeled “praise and worship”. I listen to ANY genre that has the intention to glorify Jesus, relate to a testimony, or bring the light of Christ into an atmosphere of darkness.

A queastion. There is this subgenre in heavy metal, that is called “christian metal”. I know, that not every christian metalband is as christian, as they might look like at the first moment. So here my question. Is there any type of heavy metal music, that is 100% not affecting me, and that is 100% clean and praising the lord? Or should I stay away from every type of metal or rock music, doesn`t matter how christian they seem?

Sometimes we are burned with lust, some secular songs seem soothing to our emotions and sweet to listen but it doesn’t make it right. The last statement you said just before you read the verse is wrong. The only one worth of praise is the Lord. So listening to secular music is wrong. Maybe listening to instrumental music could be ok but nothing that doesn’t praise it’s not worth the time. Just praising the Lord 24 hours a day is the only way. Psalms 150:6. Everything that breathes praise the Lord!
I still listen to a lot of songs by Five Finger Death Punch and Slipknot which is far from Christian listening material but many of their songs aren’t really blasphemous and talk about very real themes and real troubles of life. The songs Snuff and Remember Everything are very similar to what King David went through in his deep pits of despair in Psalms. I should probably gradually phase those bands out and replace them with similar Christian bands like Demon Hunter and Red.
I am a Christian and I like Rare Americans, Alec Benjamin and just feel good songs. Theres a lot more that I like such as Latin music and sometimes I listen to French songs. I really like Daneiere’s Turner dun la Vide. All you people saying that you only listen to Christian music are really missing out on pretty songs. Theres secular music that doesn’t promote drinking drugs and sleeping around you know. You just have to look for it.
It is a sin to listen to secular music. In this world everyone is preaching something through many ways such as magazines and music, so if you listen to secular lyrics it is bad for your soul and grieves God. Notice that there is no repetition in the 150 Psalms. David knew what he was doing, but today even church music has repetition in it. Such repetition is not good for the soul either, no matter how nice the lyrics may be. The Bible says sinners pray with much repetition, thinking they will be heard. David’s song formed wholes without the need of repetition. A song should flow to a Holy Spirit climax, no repetition needed. Believers often seek comforting preaching or lyrics, but if we are to grow in Christ we sometimes have to listen to challenging lyrics-sermons that edify: Hebrews 5: milk and meat (solid food). The good and evil mentioned there is not cops and robbers but refers to the evil in ourselves. It is our sinful side that likes secular music. The Lord’s prayer should read and suffer us not to be led into temptation but deliver us from our evil — because in James we read that God tempts no man.

But at the same time, you do not want to be like a church hermit who knows of nothing but the bible. How are you going to relate, communicate and evangelize to non-believers? Do not make this into a law.
There are those people, especially leaders and Pastor whose being dogmatic about the law of the OT and grace of NT, which somehow teaching that we should worship God in a solemn way like hymnals, and not with loud and ear aching sound like band instruments because we are now under grace… Is it right to teach this way of worship that might possibly neglecting/rejecting the Old Covenant or there are other ways to explains these OT Covenant and NT Grace when worshipping God?
Depending on the song, YES it’s a sin to listen to secular music. Do you think God’s gonna want you listening to Heavy Metal and Rock and all these other songs that tell you it’s ok to kill people or something stupid like that! All I ever listen to 99.99 % of the time is Worship music. But still, country music’s ok (then again, I might listen to it a few times a year. And the only ones I DO listen to are Conway and Loretta). But even with Country music, you still might get into trouble with God if you continue listening to these songs that take God’s name in vain, or songs that use God and a swear word virtually in the same sentence!
Daniel I’m a big fan of your website and your website has helped me a lot with my walk with Christ but I’m sorry I have to disagree with the comment you made about heavy metal music. It sounds to me like you painted it with too broad of a brush but don’t get me wrong there are secular metal bands that send an evil message and I’m not defending that but there is a big underground Christian metal scene where the bands pray and preach the gospel regularly and there’s even some secular bands who spread a relatively positive message. You’re entitled to your convictions if it’s not for you but I felt that was a close minded comment.
Yes it is sin! you are agreeing with the evil spirit that is in the world. Music is to glorify GOD! How does secular music do that? The church has copied the world to a large extent; young people strumming guitars and banging drums, just like a rock band: there is definitely very little skill or dedication involved it is mostly very poor, the popular songs rely on creating the feel good, just like pop songs, their content is generally weak, lacking the conveyance of any genuine experience of GOD
I disagree heavily with listening to music with swear words. If I talk to you right now and I swear, have you committed a sin? You are a product of what white Monopoly feeds you through the news, Hip Hop influences the way you dress, so if you think Hip-Hop is bad take off those skinny jeans and sneakers and wear seamless garments like those people in the Bible. What you choose to listen to is never going to be a sin, it’s only a sin if you rap out the swear words. There are so many positive things Hip-Hop has done to change negative narratives, every girl in the Kasi wants the Sho Madjozi braids, is it wrong?
I listen to music because I enjoy the beats I don’t necessarily care for the lyrics nor do the affect or influence me I love the Doom soundtrack its got no words its just heavy metal and when I listen to it I think about winning victorys through God there are definitely some songs Im going to get rid of but for me at least I don’t feel like music influences my choices at all

Metal music can glorify God and help introduce people to God who otherwise would not listen to the holy word. I think your personal tastes in music and ignorance to the aforementioned facts may misinform you. That being said, I also refuse to influence whatever you think the Holy spirit is telling you.
Contemporary Christian Music came originated from the secular genre and most musical instruments evolved over centuries by many great composers and musicians. Music comes from culture, You can’t have one without the other. I don’t know how some Christians claim Rock music is satanic while they listen to Christian rock and Christian metal.
hey so idk if this is gonna get lost here but i’ve grown up a christian and i’ve always been told to listen to christian music and not worldly which i agree on but i really like the “indie pop/ rock” genre of music. For example i really like boy pablo and i listen to his songs and go through the lyrics to make sure i know what i’m listening to and there’s nothing about topics of sin ykwim? and as a “musician” myself i’ve wanted to learn more instruments and all and maybe write my own songs for the fun of it but then i doubt that i cant really write any songs in the genre i like combined with christian? probably cause it’s never been made before? (that i know of). but yeah idk im kinda just lost tbh cuz i love music but then i stop myself cuz i don’t wanna make a mistake or be tempted or something.

Plus, I want to prevent anyone from adopting a radical and legalistic answer to this question) First off, music is a gift from God. Both the consumption of it and skill required to play it. Professional musicians like myself need to practice a lot of non-christian music in order to build more sophisticated skillsets (real book jazz standards for example). I can tell you with 137% confidence that God has been calling me to this profession my entire life. Why would he call me to a “sinful” path that requires me to not always be listening to worship music? Currently, I work a job teaching instruments at a local rock school. God certainly blessed me with this job, no doubt. (I could write an additional thread demonstrating that fact, but we can save that for another day…) You all know what rock lyrics can sometimes emulate: Gawking over women. Hating school. Rebellious attitude, etc. Is it logical to make the argument that God blessed me with the best music job I ever had in my life to put me in a position of more sin? Doubtful. Secondly, the title of this article is a little misleading. General “Music” and lyrical music are two totally different beasts. The question presented should be, “should we listen to music with non-christian lyrics?” Without lyrics, it is hard to associate sound with Christian spirituality/salvation.
This question is very consequential. The power of music is such that it has direct link to the brain and therefore it has assess to your thinking pattern. This means it has the potential to reorganize your thinking and influence your decision gradually. And the worse part is that music has a direct link to your heart/spirit. So any word used in lyrics has a straight course to your spirit. And most of these music are initiated before they are released so demons come upon the music deal to influence people. You need to know that, the eyes and ears are the window and door into our mind and heart. The bible says we should guide our heart. So don’t listen to any kind of music, words are powerful. Jesus said” John.6.63 – It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” The devils also speak words that are spirit but gives death. The bible also admonish us not to speak idle words, for such He will judge, there are songs which may seems right to you but are backed by demonic spirit. Any song which is not inspired by the Holy spirit, you must be on guard to it, some may be motivational but you have to draw your line to where you get your motivations from, Your hope is only in the Word of God( Jesus). Col.3.16 – Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Tik tok has a lot a lot a lot of bad songs and they are random and people will add it to their playlist and not know the lyrics and it makes me cringe. One of my biggest sins was having a problem with music and the artists a great example is Ariana grande since she a made a song called God is women. Which he is most decently not and I do have to admit some of her songs get stuck in my head but I ask for forgiveness watch some Christian songs then get over it. That’s all I have to say God bless

Sadly so much if the secular music us far from innocent you’d be shocked about how many songs are about sex even oral sex or anal sex, drugs and just extremely filthy things. Also there can be a sensuality to the music even the style of the music can be sensual or have an angry spirit behind it . Styles of music matter your spirit should not be agitated, music should be nice sounding and peaceful.

Why is heavy metal music any different to all other genres? Personally, I have found that bands like Wolves At The Gate, For Today, Skillet, Disciple, etc., have more theologically sound and deeper lyrics than most modern worship music, even gospel music (and I have sung in a gospel choir). I have found songs from these bands that glorify God in a much more profound way than I have found in any other genre. The reason you don’t like heavy metal music might be because you don’t understand it, which is understandable, but it is not a good reason for claiming it cannot be used to praise God.
If you only knew what praise and worship can do to your heart you won’t dare listen to any other kind of songs.I sn’t worshipping God and giving him praise awesome?,it’s awesome infact it draws God’s closer and closer and by worshipping God you be making devil jealous, the thing he hate the most is when we worship and praise God almighty 😊

I agree i lison to Christian music and soft rock love ballet’s song and soft pop song but i like to look at the lyrics if i see a course word or talk against God or ilisted sexual immorality i don’t list to that song it’s like the bible says retain the good reject evil that’s how i apply to secular music

Not the type of music that used to be a song then transformed to an instrumental beat, but just instruments playing in general. like for studying and such. please answer, I want to know if I’m sinning before the Lord without realizing it. :< thank you.
!!!Very Important Question: I am a music producer, I produce beats every few days, god gave me the blessing of this talent and I love what I do.. I sell the beats on a website and it’s up to people what they do with it.. If I produce for some rapper personally(near them/in the studio) I forbit them to curse god, and promote the devil… I also produce for a christian group of my church.. If I should ever get famous I wanna promote the ghospel(through rapping/christian music groups) from time to time(so people know,,oh yeah, this guy produces christian songs to.. lets hear that) Do you think it is sinnful? Cause I feel I am in a grey zone and living of music while sometimes promoting the ghospel(sometimes cause its a stronger message and more people click on it) is from one side right and from o e side grey zone.. What do you think?
Guiders of Christ should talk more about this topic because music IS very powerful, the message music delivers can either damage or edify the soul. Once I changed the secular music I used to listen my mind and heart changed a lot! God bless us all and do not forget that Jesus is still there, waiting for us to seek after Him. I love music. There is so much good secular music out there. Of course we shouldn’t listen to a song if it promotes ungodly behaviour, but iat the end of the day, it’s just poetry. My problem is finding good Christian music. Most of it is ghastly. The music on Christian radio is appalling for the most part. You mentioned people not listening to the lyrics in secular music. Christians don’t seem to listen to the lyrics in Christian music either. Some (Alot) of it is total error.

Compare these verses in the KJV to the CSB: “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:10, 14 KJV Compared to CSB: “But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors!” Luke 2:10, 14 CSB “all “THE” people”?, and “people he favors!”? The King James says “all people”. Jesus died for all people, for the sins of the whole world. The Lord would have all men to be saved, that all would come to repentance. “he” should be capitalized shouldn’t it? God does not have respect of persons. He would have peace for all men, not just those He “favors”. And “Glory to God in the highest “heaven”? How about Glory to God in the highest!? In the highest period. Here on earth, not just in “the highest heaven”. Just one example of how the hundreds of modern versions have butchered God’s Word with tens of thousands of omissions, additions, and changes. It’s really sad.
