A Little Narrative About Vegetarianism?

Ten stories about vegetarians, those who think they are vegetarian, and those who are confused by the concept are rounded up in this study guide. Han Kang’s novel, The Vegetarian, is translated from Korean by Deborah Smith and tells the story of two sisters, Yeong-hye and In-hye, and their marriages. The novel is filled with meaty content but is still meat-free.

The Vegetarians Only is a collection of short stories by Skybaaba, the pen name of Shaik Yousuf Baba, translated by a team of translators and edited by A. Suneetha and Uma Maheshwari Bhrugubandha. The novel explores themes of shame, desire, and our attempts to understand the lives of others.

Yeong-hye’s eating habits change drastically over time, leading her to become vegan. The author shares her own journey of becoming a vegetarian, starting off due to family/religious reasons and never liking the thought of killing. She has been vegetarian for almost 20 years and has experienced a vegetarian diet for nearly two years, followed by a couple of weeks on a vegan regime.

The true story of the Honea family going vegetarian and never looking back is told in the story of a tiger who marries an Indian girl, but he doesn’t love her, but wants her to cook for him. This book offers inspiring stories, scientific benefits, and practical tips to help readers make the transition to a vegetarian lifestyle.

Why vegetarianism is better?

Vegetarian diets are known for their low calorie content, lower saturated fat and cholesterol levels, and higher levels of fiber, potassium, and vitamin C. They are also associated with lower cancer rates, lower risk of heart disease, and lower LDL cholesterol levels. However, it is unclear whether these health benefits are due to plant-based eating or the healthy lifestyle of most vegetarians. Vegetarians are generally more physically active and have healthier habits than non-vegetarians, and they typically have a higher socioeconomic status.

To understand the effects of diet, large, controlled studies are needed, such as one at Loma Linda University in California, where Cardiologist Dr. Gary Fraser is leading an NIH-funded team to analyze data on 96, 000 Seventh-day Adventists.

What is the story of vegetarian?

Vegetarianism has been a topic of discussion and writing for millennia, with Eastern religions like Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism having the longest track record. The West took a while to catch up with Pythagoras’ promotion of a vegetarian diet around 500 BC. Despite its popularity in India, vegetarianism did not capture much imagination in Western civilization until the 19th century. The Vegetarian Society was formed in the UK during the migration of traditional rural populations into industrial cities, involving reforming characters from the industrial North, Victorian London, the south coast, and across the Atlantic in the USA.

What is the short description of vegetarian?

A vegetarian diet primarily consists of plant-based foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts. It excludes animal proteins, except for lacto-vegetarian or lacto-ovo vegetarians. A semi-vegetarian diet consists of minimal animal protein but mostly plant-based foods, excluding animal meats like fish, seafood, beef, pork, lamb, bison, or exotic meats like ostrich or alligator.

Can a lion survive on a vegetarian diet?

Wild creatures like tigers, wolves, lions, and leopards rely on plants for food and energy, as they cannot survive without plants. They hunt mammals like goats, deer, and giraffes, which depend on plants for food and energy. Without plants, herbivores cannot survive, and these animals cannot survive. However, depending on the environment and challenging conditions, these animals can modify their eating habits. In summary, plants are the only producers and primary sources of energy for wild creatures.

Can you make a tiger vegetarian?

Felines are obligate carnivores, and although they may consume vegetables, such dietary choices do not offer any discernible benefits to their physiological systems.

Can a tiger survive without meat?

Tigers and lions are obligate carnivores, requiring nutrients derived from meat for sustenance and survival.

Is The Vegetarian a short story?

The Vegetarian, originally published in 2004 and 2005 as three short stories, was combined into a single book in 2007. The story has been translated into 23 languages, with the English translation, which won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize, causing controversy. Some argue that the translation has embellished the story and is not entirely true to the original. As an outsider to South Korean culture, the author cannot determine the significance of the differences between the original and translation.

What are the important points of vegetarianism?

Vegetarian diets are popular in Western countries due to health consciousness and their nutritional benefits. They offer lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein, while providing higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, vitamins C and E, and phytochemicals. However, non-lacto vegetarian diets may increase the risk of calcium deficiency and low bone mineral density. A 2019 review found that vegetarians have lower bone mineral density at the femoral neck and lumbar spine compared to omnivores.

A 2020 meta-analysis found that infants fed a lacto-vegetarian diet exhibited normal growth and development. A 2021 review found no differences in growth between vegetarian and meat-eating children. Vegetarian diets are under preliminary research for their potential to help people with type 2 diabetes.

What is vegetarian importance?

What is vegetarian importance?

Vegetarians outlive meat eaters by six years due to their plant-based diets, which are rich in fiber, phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Vegetarians also have a longer life span, as they can prevent and reverse certain chronic diseases. Vegetarians also avoid toxic food contaminants, such as hormones, herbicides, pesticides, and antibiotics, which are fat-soluble and concentrated in the fatty flesh of animals.

Additionally, vegetarians can reduce global warming, as livestock generate more greenhouse gases than all cars and trucks combined, primarily from carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide gases generated by manure. Therefore, adopting a vegetarian diet is the single most important step an individual can take to reduce global warming.

  • Ever see the live-action He-Man film? There’s a scene where the heroes have come to our world and they snag some fast food. One of them says “I wonder why they put the food on these little white sticks.” One of her companions says “Those are rib bones”, and she says “You mean this used to be an animal? What a barbaric world.” Her companion keeps eating, though. That scene has stuck with me ever since I was a little kid.

  • Besides all the other things that one can say about this production i want to thank the designer of the spacecraft. It’s pretty hard to come up with a unique design that wasn’t seen like a hundred times and given that in this short movie there was no need for any realism whatsoever this spacecraft is amazing.

  • If you are alive today there is a good chance that your ancestors survived because they trapped rabbits and ate them because they were hungry because it was in the middle of winter and there was nothing else to eat and they were the lucky ones because there cousin in the city were chewing on a rat they caught by chance because the landlord charged double the rent that month. People are getting spoiled and nutty.

  • Just to say, I have now seen this 3-4 times since first view last night. Why, because it was that good! Clean Clear Crisp & really the cast choices, skills set just meshed. The 2 two men L o L were perfection/ setup & punch . . . . . . . LeGiT chem & ePiC timing Also yeah, great lines, script that totally worked it ha ha ha ahhhhhh man. Rare to run across a work of comedy art that was not strapped by key (msm/cia) topics or pluggin a false (& futile) narrative The Klingon closer was perfect /;^) “Good show” as they say Be advised everything was IMO ! AlwaysForward~Godspeed p.s. wait, ALIENS & VEGAN sooo say drop the vegan but have to go with ALIEN! Meaning that topic could be construed as a choice given by cia to film industry to “Put it out there” lol, I had to go there & say that. . . . . . . I know ~ Peace Out/BackQuiet

  • The ‘ good ‘ vegetarian alliens eat only ‘ green ‘ food . Because the living plants ain not voice, they can moved and have emotions, feelings and expressions, but alliens ignored all of these . The ‘ bad ‘ Earthians knew that the living animals have emotions, feelings and expressions, ignored all of thesse and they also eat them . Conclusion : a ) The ‘ civilized ‘ alliens eat live green food cooked, and they are the good guys ( ? ? ? ) ! . B ) The ‘ primitive ‘ humans eat live animals also cooked, but they are the bad guys . Both of them eating lived organisms ! . Finally, we are searching the bad guys ! ! ! .

  • Excellent short film. Very funny! I must, however, stick up for the human males (since they failed to do so themselves) and point out most animals eat meat: 2/3 of them, actually. The lion’s share of those are carnivores, many of them ocean-dwelling species. The fact that humans eat meat makes them normal, relative to other animals. But actually, humans are a bit more advanced. Humans are omnivores, which is a group that eats both animals and plants, a relatively recent development in evolution. Omnivores tend to be more cognitively and socially developed than other animals (chimps, dolphins, penguins, meerkats, ravens). So, looking at the matter objectively, an outsider should be impressed.

  • We are the only species who eat meat, but might feel guilty about it, and we have laws not to give unnecessary pain to animals, while cats just love to torture mice and birds to death without the slightest intention to eat them. Nobody should feel guilty for his basic needs. And eating something other than grass is pretty much a basic need.

  • BRILLIANTLY MADE!!! Expected it to be ‘preachy’ but it’s NOT!!! 3:01 hate how ppl almost never include octopus in this!!! They are not just smart but sweet and fun, playful and curious!! ° ° ° Anyway, i love the idea of this short!!! Plus I’m glad whoever made it didn’t make it all IN MY FACE about a vegetarian/vegan agenda!!!! Personally, i’d love a race/planet that could live this, more enlightened way, but unfortunately, on Earth, life eats life ° and even us humans (many of us) can’t eat only plants ° ° or things like mollusks that have no brains. I love thinking about planets where they are able to be more evolved. Not just in food but all things, like not competing with each other or having war or all the negative ‘ego’ stuff like greed, fear and ridiculous materialism etc….. ° Vegetarians/Vegans neglect to acknowledge that far more animals & insects die from vege-farming, than harvesting meat. ° ° I need meat or i get sick. ° ° ° While i eat meat from free-range farms, i would NEVER EVER eat an octopus. I have played with them and there is ZERO need for me to eat

  • Ladies, i’m worthy, but don’t come for me, the earth needs me. There are weak people that would like to go to heaven and strong people that want to stay in hell to turn hell into heaven, but it’s fine, this is the reason i’m alive 😉 i would suffer on a perfect planet knowing there is always someone innocent dying because they don’t look cute enough and their flesh tastes good, i would not rest…. It was a joke but also the truth…

  • To the carnivores who teach because plants are intelligent therefor they’re sentient. Meaning vegans cannot be vegans without deliberately harming innocent life. You do not understand the difference between non-sentient products vs sentient life. Hardware Limitations: It’s true plants protect themselves demonstrating awareness and intelligent survival protocols, but this does not mean plants are sentient. Plants lack the hardware of the flesh, nervous system, and brain thus cannot feel pain nor pleasure. Sentience can be measured. Note, even if some plants were discovered to be sentient, which today there is no clear evidence to act upon. If there was, we vegetarians would still place such specified plant species on a protection list! Because we care about all things regardless of their appearance and language! Regardless of there color or form thats what good people do. Even if some things are wild savages we aim to change that behavior pattern by education instead of simply killing things to solve our problems. Non-sentient product would be a home. Consider a fire sprinkler protecting its home from the fire. Such a scene exhibits it’s survial protocol similar to a plant displaying the releasing of poision at the location attacked by insects. But we know home is a non-sentient product. The alarm reacts to the environmental variables such as temperature. Triggering the spray of water when needed in the rooms the fire is present in. Though the alarm and sprinkler system demonstrate awareness to the environment and it’s survial protocol, we obviously understand the home is not sentient because it lacks the necessary hardware and software, thus the alarm is responding to the enviroment, based on pre-recorded mechanics of human engineering to protect its home for the users enjoyment.

  • I’m a Vegan and have been since I was a young girl, when I was 8 I used to beg my mother to become vegetarian. This clip did make me laugh because living as a Vegan on Earth where meat addiction and indoctrination are so strongly enforced can make one feel like an alien and appear so to those who eat meat!

  • Clever and witty. But that description… Claiming plant sentience is not ‘deflection’, and it’s interesting to note that you do it yourself when you say that plants “want us to eat” their fruit. It’s all in where you draw the line, and you appear to draw it at this thing called ‘sentience’ and then make spurious claims about what you think is or isn’t ‘sentient’, flip-flopping when it suits you. Computers can now string words together in a convincing way, does that make them sentient? Mycelia and bacteria will likely digest all of our nutrients when we die, likewise we are constantly digesting bacteria and the science is still unsure about the awareness of fungi but vegans and vegetarians often just eat fungi anyway. Life is life. Life eats life. That said, I try and avoid the types of food with a larger carbon footprint (pork, beef, poultry, etc) and shouldn’t we all? Sure, corpos have the worst carbon feetprints, but I do what I can in the meantime. Anyway, amazing effects, prop-work, and acting. Kudos to you all!

  • There is no way that alien specie wouldn’t know about carnivores and omnivores. Especially one capable to FTL technology. Nor would such specie judge another specie for it. Even less realistic for vegans to ever get that level of technology. Intelligence is trait tied to carnivores and omnivores since hunting takes actual ability to strategize and predict in to the future.

  • They dodged a bullet. What if “our women will adore you” meant slavery of humans by aliens. Like in Star Trek with the Orion Slave girls. Such a statement might be seen as manipulative if it’s used to entice humans into a situation where they are ultimately subjugated or enslaved. It could imply a deceptive promise of adoration to lure humans into a false sense of security, only to exploit them later.

  • Hahaha! In the “Common Arguments Against Veganism” you’re trying to have it both ways. You can’t claim that we’re animals then claim a different moral standard than every other animal on the planet. (Or, for that matter, claim that there is ANY morality other than the natural order – IF we’re animals.)

  • “Be honest to women and they won’t have sex with you” is what i heard, not really comedy more like real life satire. The food/animal stuff is not even funny anymore it devolved into annoying nonsense long ago. Nowadays you should ask “DO YOU EAT PLANTS!?” which feel when hurt and are able to communicate with each other and are actually also related to all other lifeforms on earth. The vegan argument doesn’t fly at all besides the way way worse diat you get from it. I recommend perusal ANY animal/plant/nature documentary, guess what it’s about: things eating other things on earth to survive, the only way out for people who are offended is sadly to end themselves because they can’t handle reality.

  • I have so many things wrong with this A. It is WAY too graphic for children what the actual HECK is wrong with you. B. You’re projecting human emotions onto chickens. And me being someone who owns chickens, I know that they don’t have the compassion for most emotions like grief. C. Chickens could care less about what happens to the other chickens. D. You show that these chickens die a slow, painful death yet corporations are actually MONITORED to make sure the chickens don’t have a horrible death. Also the corporation wouldn’t let the chicken flail and possibly break every bone in it’s body by letting the poor thing hang upside down for that long. Also not to mention the fact that you guys are so against owning animals, you don’t seem to know that there is such a thing of loving and kind owners who care for the animal up until there death. Especially since one of your sites in California killed a ton of shelter animals because you thought it would be too cruel to let them live an actually happy life. Yall don’t even make sense with how many lies you put out and if you actually went to a good farm you’d see that this DOES NOT HAPPEN! Edit: Just thinking about it. But if you actually found chickens in this situation you’d kill them anyways!

  • 1. blood in a Peta kids article? 2. it looks like they Target this to any farm like invirment I herd a man who owns cows covers their eyes prays and then shoots them. we need meat so yeah. Also sometimes Peta goes against things like eye seeing dogs and they think that will make the world a better place well it’s not

  • It’s well animated..ok so let’s say every one stops eating meat and all these large meat farms are shut down. What do we do with the thousands of chickens that are left…what do we do with them let them run free? They are going to keep populating. It costs money to feed them if we have to take care of them all…and now that No one eats meat we have to produce more crops for the entire world…that means more land and that means possible more deforestation. Not to mention we now have thousands of cows, poultry pigs ect not being eaten that have to be controlled. We certainly can’t let them have free range to keep.breeding eventually there would be disease that evolves along with the animals competing for food and water now that they don’t have any predators…aka humans. I don’t think an all vegetarian society would ever work…and face it somewhere in the world people.will eat meat…you cannot stop it. So organizations like PETA need to keep fighting to improve the living conditions of meat, dairy, egg farms while the animals are there. If they are so heartbroken of the animals suffering pain during death, money needs to be put into research to find cheap more humane ways of slaughtering the animals. Instead of putting all that money into commercials that state slaughter houses are evil. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and passions but it is impossible to shut down all meat production.

  • Sorry if I offend anyone or I did something wrong, but the message I see in this is to turn vegan? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with being vegan, good job for keeping a healthy diet of vegetables/fruit! I’m just saying, is it so wrong to want to eat chicken? I get it, chickens get put through so much and I really feel bad, But I’m not sure I want to go “vegan” and give up eating meat.

  • this is just…………depressing 🙁 it made me sad 🙁 Why did you have to make it so graphic and scary? Kids WATCH you, and you don’t TRY to make it better….we can make it a better environment if we don’t kill as much animals as we do….I am not vegan, but I get where people are coming from. I wish our environment was way smoother and better, and less depressing….seriously.

  • Dear PETA, I too love chickens. I have four of my own, but I still eat chicken. Humans need a balanced diet of meat and vegetation, who both have been proved to feel pain. My point is still eat meat, but give the producer of meat a happy life. Sincerely, a stranger P.S: Stop over exaggerating, it makes you look a bit… thick headed.

  • Guys this may be a heartbrwaking story but without meat we wont survive just imagine in a world full of vegetables we would probably get sick of veggies and die so you may eat meat and sometimes stop i may be a vegetarian cause animals will be extinct and world hunger will be released so please animals give you food so how about you give them something nice

  • I’m an animal lover, I adore animals and wildlife and I wish to be a vet or an environmentalist. Personally I think how we get our meat is horrible, I agree it really is. But we’re omnivores, we need meat, being vegan isn’t actually entirely healthy, I’m not taking iron supplements and medication to add up for the lost nutrition it’s just not for me. I’ve thought about becoming vegetarian, and at times even vegan. But it’s so pricey and (as I mentioned the heath supplements to add up for my lost nutrition) I just can’t do it. I personally don’t like red meat, I don’t eat lamb or veal as they are babies. I eat cow (for iron) but it tastes horrible to me. But I’m sorry, I love white meat so much. Sadly, I’m an avian lover, I love birds (I just had to mention my cockatiel here, she’s so beautiful) so eating chickens does upset me alot. And for all you vegans, I do in fact get my eggs from free range chickens, and I get my chicken from the RSPCA (the australian version of Peta I think) I do not eat that horrible animal torture caged stuff. I don’t support that. I don’t support eating game animals either, I dunno I just think they’re free for a reason. Sorry this was my random rant. I love animals and I hope this comment doesn’t get hated on?

  • I do agree that animals should have a good life being free to roam and eat being with their kin And thats why I want to eat meat localy since sweden myhome nation are very strict about animal abuse and management of animals (plus being ecofriendly) to bad it is so costly I can rearly buy it becuse of OUR FUCKING GOVERMENT STEALS OUR MONEY!! How in the fuck are they thinking buying localy and eco friendly is now only for rich fucks status we ordinary people have to resort to cheaper alternitives wich means this :insert the chicken article here: And no I will not go vegan BECUSE I DON’T BELIVE IT IS THE ANSWER!!!

  • Okay…well…not exactly. Um, first off, not all eggs have a baby inside of it. Most factory farmed eggs are born in incubators (even broilers). Broilers grow 2x as fast as a normal chicken, and killing them eventually becomes necessary. These chicks don’t see their mother, which is sad but you also have to remember, broiler chickens are a hybrid of two completely different species. Meat birds are not their own bird, they are a gmo. Also, most birds grown in a backyard farm, they want broody hens. Incubators are expensive and a lot of upkeep, so keeping the baby with a willing mother is actually way easier. Broiler chickens WILL eat themselves to death.

  • I am not vegan but I love animals and I really disagree with these methods but humans are structured to eat meat not nuts and vegetables we are omlevors and it’s very unnatural to not eat meat I’m sure we can have different ways to stop this torture because some people just can’t stop eating Meat but just to clarify I am not supporting egg/milk indestrys I think there wrong to treat there animals that way animals are sotial intelligent creatures also I have my own pet quail at home which relate to chickens and if you can see her Personality and need for attention I’m sure you will agree for the people that treat animal in a horrible way like this should be put in prison for animal abuse! #JusticeForAnimals like if you agree

  • PETA puts down more then 90% of all animals turned into them. A lot of the euthanized animals where in in good health and willingly surrendered by owners who felt that they can no longer properly provide for thier animals. PETA’s philosophy is that an animal is better off dead then in human captivity. In a lot of ways I agree with this, but not so much when it comes to pet animals.

  • People should not eat animals. When animals are in the sloughter house. They know whats going on. They know that chickens are diying. They aren’t stupid and dont know whats going on. They do know. Man think how scared they are and how fast there hearts are beating. The point is we shouldn’t kill or eat animals. Every day, every food we ate was killed in the slaughter house.

  • This is why I gave up Bird meet you know because I have some baby quail that are about to hatch and I’m not going to eat some chicken just because it taste good I mean to me it doesn’t taste that good but my family didn’t get a bit up couple weeks ago they had chicken for dinner and I refused to eat it.😔

  • If I had 24 hours to do anything I wanted….I’d free every chicken from industry’s burn the building itself down and take all the chickens to a better place…a place where…they’d have a chance at a normal life..a place where they could play and run on the warm summer grass….and feel the sun shining on their feathers…a place….called home…a place…like heaven on Earth… somewhere….this has to exist…it has to!😢
