Why does my husband always bring me down?

People may engage in unacceptable behavior due to various reasons, such as feeling undermined by others, having an early life script that dictates leadership, or feeling under pressure in a family setting. However, none of these explanations can be used as an excuse. The behavior is not acceptable. If you suspect that the behavior is due to something you’re doing, it’s important to respectfully raise it with the other person. They can then work out if there’s a need for change in their interactions.

Being open to a partner’s feelings is crucial in a caring relationship, but it’s important to do so in a respectful manner. Publicly expressing your concerns is unlikely to achieve the desired outcome. It’s important to remember that everyone gets it wrong sometimes, and being open to their partner’s thoughts is essential for a healthy relationship.

What does it mean when your husband is always putting you down?

The constant criticism from your partner is a sign of grandiosity, which means they have too much self-esteem. This can lead to feelings of insufficient self-esteem, which is a result of the “great lie” of superiority and inferiority, which is deeply ingrained in our culture. This lie is intrinsic to patriarchy, where the superior side is the masculine side, and the inferior side is the feminine side. The primary relationship is that the masculine holds the feminine in contempt, making misogyny an essential aspect of patriarchy.

  • I have shared my needs and he is considerate for about a month then goes back to the neglectful ways of not checking up on me for many hours yet he says how he hates it when I’m alone when I’m not working. His family is also unloving to each other and no emotion. It robs my security to my core that he is so mindless.

  • In 2023 I feel like your husband can google tricks and tips on how to make you feel more appreciated/wanted… and if he doesn’t it does feel like he truly does not care about you… or maybe it’s just me lol but if my partner just sat on the couch and I had to always tell him what I need… that sounds exhausting like I need to twist his arm everytime!

  • Asked and asked, asked again specifically asked, waited waited waited, was considerate of his day and needs fulfilled his needs, waited some more still no needs got fulfilled and in fact by asking needs got met less, rejection set in and now I’m upset and I don’t even want my needs me nor do I even want to ask him because then I feel like I’m begging someone who claims to love me ! While he sits in his free time staring his phone . I’ve just come to a feeling of uselessness to him. I guess I choose to meet my own needs! I don’t think you should have to ask someone to love you when they said and say that they do, while they reduce you to feeling pathetic and like you are begging someone to want you.

  • Okay but what if you tell them the need and they just refuse to do it? Either say they will but never do. Or tell you their parents never did that to make you feel like your needs are unreasonable and they have a good reason for not doing what you ask. Flowers and date nights? That sounds like a fairy tale. I could beg for that all day long and never get it. I work a 10-hour day and then ask him to feed my kids so I can go see my mother in the hospital and he won’t even do it.

  • My husband just work, play article games, drink whisky and play with the child. I do all the house work and I have all in order and perfect plus I put money for rent and expenses. I was free and happier before. His priority are his martial arts and pals and the child and probably me. I am leaving for a month on vacations I cannot live like this anymore it is a mental torture.

  • So I guess when I’m needing my husband to be there when I’m crying over my hard life I have where I care for my adult daughter and grandchildren all day & he leaves right away because he’s getting HIS needs … I guess I’m supposed to just think to myself that he needs that time alone and forget about me. I say what I need and he kisses me son the cheek and leaves anyway … his needs met would mean him leaving and that’s and that’s up to him . I am being ignored and over meeting everyone else’s needs allllllllllllllll the time … sometimes people just don’t care

  • I repeatedly ask my husband about my needs but it seems he doesn’t care. He only says ok and then nothing happens in response.I cry most of the nights alone but he never knows. Even he sees me crying, he makes a bad face and just sleep.I don’t know what to do. Plz help. But sometimes I think he does a lot for me, I mean except my emotional needs he does other chores whatever I say. What is this I don’t know.

  • Thank you so much for putting this into words. As a husband who has given up a lot for his family’s future (not a blind workaholic) its good for women to understand that as men we want to meet their needs but are human and limited. If I’ve put in multiple 12-14hr days between work and a home reno when she didnt want to join in, I just need a chamce to rest so I can be the best version of myself for her. Its not because we don’t want to connect, it’s because as men we have different needs in order to connect in a healthy state of mind and body. We’re still learning and growing.

  • Dude Im just really angry and sad at this point. And yes I truly feel that a real man should know that if his partner says I feel alone and sad(through tears), that he should just atleast say something and not just say “I don’t want to deal with this and I don’t have time for this”. To really just say something like I’m here for you and I don’t want you to feel alone or sad.

  • I know exactly how it feels. Before we separated, I spent the better part of last few years dealing with my husbands work and constant travel (and how easy it became for him to leave). He never expressed or said a word to me about his feelings-hence why were where we are now. And no I wasn’t meeting his needs because I became hurt and rude and offensive. And no I didn’t communicate my needs-I told him what he wasn’t doing right all the time. Him leaving didn’t tell me anything specific, he’s not still said a word about real specifics. I have taken this opportunity to dive deeply into myself to learn what I didn’t do right and to change. It’s not easy and I’ll say it again-it is unfair that when a man lacks the ability to tell you how he feels and shoves his own feelings down until he explodes-it will always be our job as women to set the tone because we’re far more capable of understanding our feelings and dealing with them. I hate it. And Kimberly is always on the mark with these things, especially for those of us who deal with anxiety and depression long before marriage crisis.

  • What if you are asking what he needs and he says nothing and won’t tell you? But you do all the cleaning cooking etc then you tell him your needs and he does it once or twice then stops again? Or ruins all special holidays to me with grumpy attitude etc ? He’s ruined all Mother’s Day with breaking things if I said I didn’t like the gift etc

  • I’ve asked this question on this website before. Why you and the doctor fixate on men cheating, when in reality women are more likely to and do cheat more often? This is why more men won’t go to marriage counseling, we’re guillty as soon as we walk into the mc office, when the wife’s out cheating. It’s always the man’s fault.
