I am kinda glad that Deadpool & Wolverine kept the minimalist style. Just the “Best Friends” necklack or posters focusing on one character or both of them fighting each other. Let’s just hope they don’t try to make a floating heads poster (or they will do it, but make a joke out of it with a tagline saying “Because every poster needs a lot of faces”)
I’m fine with floating head posters if it at least looks cool or not ugly cuz they gotta show off their star power as long as they got actual posters. Ones that are wallpaper worthy or are made to go on the walls of fanboys and not just the promos at theaters when they’re showing a movie. They need to at least have that variant where it’s actually supposed to look cool and not just show off the cast
A lot of these floating head posters are studio mandated. They either want to use the actors or by contract actors have to have top billing to promote the movie. Not to mention some of those studio mandated ones set trends or follow trends cause thats what sells. It really shows how homogenized the movie industry can be as well as marvels creativity when you have thse. Compare this to indie films where the directors have more control over their films and have beautiful or awesome looking posters. Biggest example is Robert Eggers indie film posters to when universal distributed his film and had another floating heads poster compared to the one he wanted to have for the same film.
I think some of my favorite movie posters were from the 07 Transformers film Just seeing Megatron and Optimus facing each other is amazing And the poster with an optic looking over the Earth, dayum But i think many films dont just need posters, but also taglines, like 2008’s Iron Man with the whole “heroes arent born” schtick, or going back to 07 Transformers: “Their War. Our World”
Generally speaking, I like both types of Marvel poster…, their teaser posters and their main posters…, I don‘t mind the main poster having multiple people on it, cause it can look great as well…, plus, I personally do wanna see my favorite heroes on the poster, which is why a teaser like the heart necklace teaser poster from Deadpool & Wolverine wasn‘t enough to satisfy me…, the main poster from Deadpool & Wolverine for instance is far more powerful. Sure Marvel‘s main posters can look weak, but most of the time, it‘s because of Sony…, all MCU Spider-Man films have awful posters…, with the exception of that one solo-poster from No Way Home. Out of ALL the MCU posters, they only have a few misses IMO, such as the main Shang-Chi poster for instance. Overall speaking, the MCU has a lot of strong posters.
Better if they use the individual character posters for promotion. Or even have a floating head for promotion and a more artsy one people could choose to use. Usually the non floating head one’s WAY better. Two comes to mind when it comes to that. I prefer the Spider-Man Far From Home poster with just his mask and the pins on it and the Quantumania one with the Ant family is small on Kang’s hands. I’m more of a DVD collector and I do prefer to have these more artistic posters as the DVD cover
Yup! That’s how it is. Some people really are so simple minded that they would only be interested in perusal an Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise or Jennifer Lopez movie. They don’t even care what the movies are about, just as long as their favorite actors are in it. But at the end of the day, these studios are businesses trying to pay their bills.
As if they already don’t promote the actors that are in the movie in the trailers and press tours enough. Let the posters be unique and speak for themselves. If you didn’t know for any for the Avengers movies who the cast were before going into it after the majority of them had already been in 5 other movies prior and had to rely on the poster to know who’s in it, then I’m sorry, but that’s on you at that point.
