What was the old name of Whole Foods?
In 1978, John Mackey and Renee Lawson opened SaferWay, a small natural foods store in Austin, Texas, with $45, 000 borrowed from family and friends. After being booted out of their apartment for storing food products, they decided to live at the store instead.
