Where im from there would be 100 people at that sale all hunting for vintage clothing and it would be snatched up within 1 minute even at the price of $15 per shirt. At another sale I got cut in line by a bunch of vintage clothing hunter and they all blocked me off from the piles of clothing. I quickly ran to another part of the house because no one was there and found 400 vintage pocket knives. Didn’t know anything about knives so I tried buying anything that looked interesting that had bone or antler handles. Some made in japan German or USA knives. With my limited knowledge I was able to scoop up $90 to $75 knives for around $5 each. Of course I bought some losers but now I know what to look for when I researched more at home. Might have left some old case knives.
I truly believe it’s important to find “your” category and get at it. Now don’t get me wrong when I first started 3 years ago I was 95% shoes and 5% whatever I found worth money. Now I’m 99% clothes and shoes but I will not pass up a golf club for a few bucks if it’s worth $100 or a article game worth $50. Does it mess up the algorithm, I don’t know that answer but some Resellers say it does and some say aslong as it’s a good listing and priced right it will sell no matter the algorithm. But to me the most important thing in the beginning for someone is find something you like sourcing, listing and packaging and become great at it. Great article as always.
I am 100% NOT a niche seller. F that! I love going to estate sales where everyone else piles into one room and I go into the left-out rooms (like you discovered) and I find lots of good stuff. I went recently to an estate sale where everyone went for the vintage toys, and when i saw how crowded it was in there, I went into the basement where all the tools were and I found some awesome vintage 80s Sony products and boomboxes. I also found some other killer electronics. It was insane. And not one person was in there that I had to compete with. i was just taking my time. I will deliberately search for the rooms that are devoid of people. Yes, learn about every niche and you will never go hungry as a reseller. I also noticed that they priced up the toys because they knew that was where the hustlers would be. When they price vintage tshirts and sweaters for $1 amd $2, and sealed software for like $2 and $3, it shows they didn’t give a rip about that stuff. Sucks for them, but great for you! More ROI.

Even when the numbers seem to indicate great value, I’ll only by one to three pairs in case the bottom falls out. When I see other resellers on youtube do something, and I see something similar, I’ll try out with one. Like, the other day, I bought a baseball cap. It sold withing a week. So, now I’ll try again, but still going slow.
Wow, amazing haul! When I started reselling, I pretty much did just article games and Pokemon cards. I still do them to this day, but I realized I had to add to my knowledge and reseller a wider variety of stuff. You can even expand within a niche really. Starting with Pokemon cards, I also went into YuGiOh, Digimon and Magic. Starting with games, I started getting into other older electronics. But really if something looks interesting, I look it up. Usually it’s nothing, but every now and then you may get a nice profitable item!
