Half of surveyed mothers have continued to feel loss, pain, and mourning over their child they lost to adoption, even many years later. In Canada alone, this happened to more than 300,000 women, many of whom became pregnant. When a parent decides to give up an adopted child, it depends on whether the adoption has been legally finalized or not. Birth parents may feel rejected by adoption workers or other family members, and factors such as mixed feelings about the placement, support from other family members, and the planned adoption may impact their emotions at the time.
Natural parents often feel pressured into relinquishing their child for adoption by adoption workers and others, feeling that they were not given accurate or adequate information about their rights and the adoption process. Adoption at birth is argued to prevent children from “languishing” in orphanages when their mothers were forced to surrender them later in life. Anti-adoption advocates paint adoption as akin to human trafficking, while adoptive parents and adoptee advocates paint it like a fairy tale with a happy-ever-after ending.
One cause of broken adoptions is the death or infirmity of an older adoptive caregiver. This article explores one approach to curbing broken adoptions, focusing on the importance of understanding the consequences of giving up a child for adoption and the need for redemption. Adoption is a solution when a child needs a home, and adoptive parents should trust in God’s promises to give them justice and protect them from evil.

Does the Bible say not to mistreat orphans?
In Exodus 22:22-25, the Message instructs the people not to mistreat widows or orphans, as this could lead to their deaths. The Message warns against causing anger and violence among the people, as this could result in their wives becoming widows and their children becoming orphans. If the people lend money to the down-and-out, they are advised not to gouge them with interest or act as usurers. If the people complain about being mistreated, the Message warns that their wrath will be intense, leading to their death with the sword.
The Message also warns against lending money to the poor, stating that they should not act as a creditor or charge interest on them. The Message emphasizes the importance of treating widows and orphans with respect and not causing harm to them.
Is the Bible against adoption?
The Bible teaches that we are co-heirs with Christ through adoption, as we are heirs to an imperishable inheritance. Christ’s inheritance is the universe in its entirety, and he has been appointed heir of all things. As adopted children and co-heirs with Christ, we share in this “heir of all things”. The Spirit of God bears witness to our spirit, confirming that we are children of God and heirs of God. If we suffer with Christ, we may also be glorified together. The Bible has spoken to us by His Son, who has appointed heir of all things and through whom He made the worlds.
What are the 7 core stages of adoption?
The book Seven Core Issues in Adoption and Permanency, co-authored by Sharon Kaplan Roszia and Allison Davis Maxon, outlines seven lifelong issues experienced by adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents. These issues include loss, rejection, guilt/shame, grief, identity, intimacy, and master/control. Adoption is created through loss, with the first loss occurring at the initial separation from the birth family.
Adoptees experience profound feelings of loss, intensified by feelings of rejection, and often personalize these feelings. The concept of being “chosen” means first being “un-chosen”, which is a crucial aspect of understanding the lasting effects of the adoption experience.
What are the 5 stages of adoption?
The adoption process of an innovation involves five stages: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. During the knowledge stage, individuals are first exposed to an innovation but lack information about it. This is where the adoption process begins. For example, Ermias, a sexually active adolescent, is introduced to condoms but lacks much knowledge about the subject. The final stage involves implementation and confirmation, ensuring that the individual is fully aware of the benefits of the innovation.
What not to say to adopted kids?
Diana, an adoptee and staff writer at American Adoptions, shares 15 things not to say to an adoptee when meeting them. Adoptees, especially transracial adoptees, may not have the luxury of hiding their adoption when they don’t want to answer questions. However, adoptees know that people often make assumptions about their adoption due to a lack of information. Avoid asking questions like “Do you know who your real parents are?”, “Have you ever met your mom?”, “Why did your parents give you up?”, “Where are you from?”, “Are you related to your sibling?”, and “Are your birth parents still together?”.
What does the Bible say about giving to orphans?
Psalm 68:5 highlights God’s heart for the fatherless, stating that caring for orphans is not just what He does or commands, but also who He is. The Church should care for orphans not just because it is morally good, but because it is who God is. To know the heart of God, we can find it in caring for orphans.
Every follower of Christ can do something for an orphan. Prayer should be the frontline of the Church’s response, as God hears us when we pray. Every injustice in the physical must be defeated in the spiritual. Giving can be done through Serving Orphans Worldwide, which has a proven track record of solid, vetted work worldwide. 100% of any contribution goes directly to the field, with no funds going to operational expenses.
Finally, adopting or fostering a child is the greatest hope for a child in need. Serving Orphans Worldwide has a vetted list of agencies and resources to provide more information.
What do you call a child that was put up for adoption?
A child placed up for adoption is referred to as an adoptee or person who was placed for adoption, reflecting the child’s biological connection and their new path into their adoptive family. The process of placing a child for adoption is referred to as “placing a child for adoption” or “making an adoption plan”, acknowledging that birth parents are the ones deciding the best future for their child.
If a parent regrets placing their child up for adoption, support is available through Adoption and Beyond, which provides post-placement support services, counseling, and resources to help them navigate their emotions and find healing. The number of babies placed for adoption each year varies globally, but estimates suggest thousands are placed for adoption in the United States each year.
What to say to a child you gave up for adoption?
The author expresses their deep love for their child, who was placed for adoption at the time of birth. They acknowledge that their love for their child was so intense that they felt the need to leave them in the care of someone else. The author acknowledges that their adoption was the hardest decision they have ever made, but is comforted by the support of their adoptive mother. The adoptive family will provide a bright future for the child, reminding them of their love every day.
The author is grateful for the constant updates from their adoptive mother about their child’s milestones, preferences, and preferences. The author hopes that one day, the child will decide to get to know them, and they will gladly hug them with open arms. What does God say about giving your child up for adoption?
God’s heart for adopted kids is a reminder of the biblical realities surrounding adoption. As you surrender your child to new parents, trust that God will watch over and protect them. If you have no option but to give your child up, trust that God will be their helper. He promises to give them justice and protect them from evil. Trust the Lord in faith and pray that he uses your child for his good purposes wherever they will go.
God doesn’t view giving your children up for adoption as a sin, but rather as someone who is giving justice to your kids, obeying his commands, and helping deliver them from difficult challenges. The Scriptures say that God will bless you because you are taking care of your vulnerable children to have a better life.
For those who adopt other people’s children, be reminded that you are doing a work that God calls good. The Scriptures declare you blessed of God, and as you care for the child, love them as though they were your own. Pray for the peace and rest of the birth parents, understanding that it was not an easy decision for them.
What are the stages of adoption grief?
Elisabeth Kübler-Ross identified five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. David Kessler, who worked with Kübler-Ross, added the sixth stage, finding meaning, which he experienced while grieving his adopted son’s suicide. Understanding grief through the lens of grief can be helpful in gaining clarity and grounding one’s experience. The stages are not linear and may occur at different stages throughout one’s life, including acceptance and meaning. Experiencing grief multiple times throughout a day is normal and exhausting.
What can I say instead of putting up for adoption?
Adoption professionals today suggest alternative terms for “giving up for adoption” to better reflect the bravery and selflessness of women who make this unplanned pregnancy choice. Instead of saying “give up for adoption”, they encourage other ways to describe the adoption process, such as “place a baby for adoption”, “choose adoption for a baby”, and “make an adoption plan”. This approach allows for a more realistic and positive portrayal of the adoption process, as it acknowledges the importance of the baby’s future and the love and support it will receive from a loving family. This approach is a reflection of the bravery and selflessness of women who make this unplanned pregnancy choice.

its actually insanely impressive if she was able to paint the entire room black overnight without making a mess or waking anyone up and doing a clean job around the door frame that’s actually very impressive she should definitely go into the industrial trade of painting, would absolutely make the big bucks
Her dad started using drugs, and one day he went out and told her she’d be right back. The sad truth is…………her dad could have been secretly murdered and she was just never told about it. Sometimes, people are found dead with no way to identify who they are or where they live, etc……. – when that’s the case, the cops can’t tell their loved ones about what happened
This reminds me of some of those The Dodo articles where somebody brought home an abused animal from the kennel and it sat under the bed for the first few days because of distrust and after a month it was running and playing all over the house. Same thing. She was already sizing them up as good hearted loving nice people and was ready to come out of her shell. Nice article!
People that had a good childhood, that never know the feeling of being abandoned or mistreated, can’t possibly understand what Children that don’t have that; go through, & it can be so traumatizing that it becomes part of who they become when they get older. Not being able to trust anyone for fear of history repeating itself can be so devastating that It effects their entire life! Not just being unable to trust again, but closing themselves off from Potentially being able to accept someone’s love for them, thinking they were somehow at fault for being treated so badly! Thank you for sharing this story that is very real in many children’s lives, & sadly in adults lives as well! 💔😥Always be kind to people even if you don’t know or understand what they’ve had to endure! People tend to react to things they can’t possibly understand with cruelty, bullying etc. instead of being kind & caring. God bless you all. ❤️🙏
At first, I thought this was based roughly on the 1990 movie “Problem Child”, but in that movie, the wife is only interested in adopting in order to attempt to fit in with her friends and neighbors, all of whom were mothers, and isn’t really interested in doing the work it takes to be a parent. The husband is in it for the right reasons, and after a comic series of events (ok, being honest, it’s “Home Alone” style slapstick), he wins the child over. In this story, the mother finally comes around. I like Dhar’s version better; it makes you want to hug a child who really needs it.
I was in the system for many years taken away from my parents at age 6 due to drugs, alcohol and abuse and I can say we do have a hard time opening up to people. how this girl is acting is not uncommon. We do have trust issues sense sometimes we can’t even trust the foster parents that we’re living with.
When you are going through difficult times in your life, don’t isolate yourself. There are people who have been through what you might be facing right now and they overcame it. Don’t push people away, surround yourself with people who are spiritually mature and get the help that you need. Isolation when you are in pain and don’t know if there’s a way out is dangerous and that’s why we have suicide cases. Listen, there’s nothing that you can be facing that God is not able to solve for with God nothing is impossible. Hold on. Jesus loves you.
I’m Goth and a Metalhead dude. This is funny because this is what people stereotype us as.. I’m 28, and have been both Goth and a Metalhead for 14 years, I did in my earlier years use to do funny stuff like scare people for the funny(😅)… and also other creepy good stuff. Nowadays I’m just a mellow Goth Metalhead guy. I still wear all of the stuff I like, but I’m busy with college and working 2 jobs so I had to just make my goals clear for myself… btw, I like the article. 👧🏻☠️🎃
You know, not all goths had terrible childhood experiences. However, I’m one to talk; as I was judged by the teachers/ea’s at my first school. Those who judged me thought I steal things and perceived me as manipulative. I have mild Autism sure, and yes, I was quirky; but I tried to stay out of trouble as much as I could. Anyway, despite my experience, I was into goth before those incidents occurred. I would always pick the mysterious and ‘spooky’ levels in article games. They brought me a sense of peace.

As a foster child who’s both parents that are dead I’ve never cried more over a article in my entire life, all I ever wanted was for a family to love me.. and im still fighting for that, i pray that whoever out there that is going through the same pain I’m going through, I hope and pray that you get put into a nice home with a loving family..
As a person in foster care, I can relate to this – I’ve been through multiple foster families because they were so cruel but now I’m in a foster HOME (difference is there’s multiple people doing different shifts and multiple children rather than a foster family) and I couldn’t love it here more. I leave next year as I’m going to be an adult.
Every time they say “you see” you know the other person is going to be crying with them at the end. Edit: this is the most likes I’ve ever had lol ty! Edit 2: HOW DID I GET THIS MANY LIKES TYSMMMMM!!!! Edit 3:HOW DO I ALMOST HAVE 150 LIKES??? I THOUGHT I WOULD ONLY GET TWO OR THREE OR AT MOST FOUR TYSM!!!
2:08 i cant stop imagining this. “Can i try?” “No.” *Waiter randomly lols at the mean mom and walks over to her* “You. You need to learn to SHARE!” “Whoa! Waiter what in the world” “Listen. If i hear you not sharing with the kid again, *pulls out da belt* imma hit you with this. GOT IT!?” “😳” “I take that as a yes.” *Walks away to get another milkshake for the kid*
I was in foster care for 9 years and went through 36 homes before getting adopted last year I had multiple situations like this it’s awful. Knowing people just use you for money and not actually love you is sad. My parents gave me up and never wanted me back and I accepted that the system is corrupt and is not right I’m sorry for people who are currently going through it and I’m sorry. In case you did not here it today I love you and I care about you
