Twin pregnancies typically end in preterm delivery, with over half ending before 37 weeks. Therefore, it is essential to consider the unique circumstances of each twin pregnancy.

When to take maternity leave for twins?
Pregnancy with twins, triplets, or more can be physically demanding, so it’s recommended to take a period for rest and relaxation at the end of the pregnancy. Most people recommend stopping work between 28 and 30 weeks. There’s no universally agreed date for maternity leave, as it depends on the type of tasks, health, pregnancy progress, employer flexibility, and personal feelings. If carrying triplet or higher order babies or experiencing health complications, you may need to stop working before this.
The earliest date to start maternity leave is 11 weeks before the babies are due, and it will automatically start the day after if the babies are early or if you’re off with a pregnancy-related illness four weeks before the due date.
How long before the due date should I start maternity leave?
Maternity leave may commence on any day from 11 weeks prior to the estimated date of delivery, except in instances where the employee is absent from work due to a pregnancy-related illness, in which case the leave may begin four weeks prior to the estimated date of delivery, commencing on an earlier date than the chosen commencement date.
When are you most likely to miscarry with twins?
Vanishing twin syndrome, a common issue in multiple pregnancies, affects 10-40% of women. Symptoms include mild cramping, vaginal bleeding, and pelvic pain, similar to miscarriage in a singleton pregnancy. In some cases, the only sign of vanishing twin syndrome is no longer detecting a second fetus on an ultrasound. If a woman miscarries before her first sonogram, she may not know that a twin or multiple was lost.
Later loss, or stillbirth, occurs when a twin or multiple is lost after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This can result from complications such as placental defects, infections, umbilical cord issues, and high blood pressure. In up to a third of cases, the cause of the stillbirth is unknown.
Can I go on maternity leave early with twins?
The general guideline for multiple pregnancy benefits is four weeks before the estimated due date per baby, increasing to 12 weeks for triplets. However, mothers of multiples are not automatically eligible for extended Temporary Disability Insurance benefits after delivery, during the postpartum recovery period. This period can only be extended if the mother suffers a qualifying complication after the birth, documented by her medical provider. If a pregnancy complication affects the mother’s health, their medical provider must explain it when filling out their part of the Temporary Disability Insurance application.
Are you sicker when pregnant with twins?
Twin pregnancy can result in similar symptoms as a single pregnancy, but with more intense symptoms like morning sickness, swelling, heartburn, leg cramps, bladder discomfort, and sleep problems. The baby may grow bigger and gain more weight sooner. Twins may require more testing and checks than single-baby pregnancies. An ultrasound can show if the babies are growing in the same amniotic sac, with twins having the best chances of both growing well. Between weeks 18 and 20, an ultrasound may show the sex of the babies. Checkups will become more frequent later in pregnancy than for a single-baby pregnancy.
Are C-sections safer for twins?
A randomized trial in twin pregnancies found that planned cesarean delivery did not significantly decrease or increase the risk of perinatal death or serious neonatal morbidity compared to planned vaginal delivery at 32-38 weeks gestation. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of cesarean delivery on perinatal mortality and severe neonatal morbidity in twin pregnancies at ≥32 weeks through a large database exploration approach. The study used the U.
S. matched multiple births, 1995–2000, to compare perinatal outcomes in 181, 810 pregnancies delivered at 32-41 weeks gestation without congenital anomalies. The primary outcome was a composite of perinatal death and severe neonatal morbidity. Cox regression was used to estimate the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) controlling for propensity to cesarean delivery, fetal characteristics, and twin-cluster level dependence. Prospective risks were calculated using the fetuses-at-risk denominators.
Do 35 week twins need NICU?
Twins are typically delivered at 36 weeks of pregnancy, with over half being delivered before 37 weeks. Preterm babies are more likely to have complications and may need to spend time in the NICU. Preventing preterm labor is more difficult with a twin pregnancy than a single pregnancy. In some cases, a provider may recommend early delivery for the safety of both the mother and her babies. This may be due to factors such as shared placentas, growth restrictions, or twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.
If the mother develops preeclampsia or other pregnancy complications, a cesarean section may be necessary. The chance of needing a cesarean section is higher with twins, but this depends on various factors. If both twins are positioned head down for the birth, vaginally delivery is possible, but if labor is not progressing or the mother or babies have other problems during labor, such as a dropping fetal heart rate, a cesarean section may be necessary.

Castor oil for labor. Castor oil may be best known as a laxative. … Ingesting small amounts of castor oil can cause spasms in the intestines, which can stimulate the bowels and vagal nerve. This spasm-and-stimulation duo may then irritate the uterus, which can begin contracting. (I ONCE HEARD THIS MIGHT HELP)
I have heard that doing the Kimchi (I think I spelled that right) squats will help induce. I did see it work for one Youtuber but I have never tried it myself. I do know however you can try any and everything but those sweet babies will come when they want to. Love you and blessings to you and yours. Praying for a safe delivery.
I’m actually a Labor & Delivery nurse and tbh babies come when they wanna come… Lol, however walking helps as far as preparing the cervix. Although, sex can be uncomfortable at this stage sex is also a very good way to get things started bcuz sperm irritates the cervix (in a good way)so the contractions start up. I would ask your doctor to strip your membranes, but being that your being induced I’m sure your doctor won’t do that. So, to sum it up just keep doing what you’ve been doing and just try to get as much sleep as you can…. And just know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you boo!
I know everywhere is different but I had 3 c-sections and I was so over it and huge outta breath you already know that my doctor let me pick which day I wanted to have my c-section never trying to go into labor per say because they was gone cut the baby out anyway just a thought I was in my 9th month anyway
Girl I was tired as hell walking around there at least it was shady when u went. Try primrose oil pills, twice a day take two daily by mouth and nightly insert one pill inside the hooha close to the cervix…. did that for both my first two pregnancies and will be doing it once I hit 37 weeks with these twins
I absolutely do not believe that you should be trying to induce yourself but… I had my baby shower at the cheesecake factory and delivered my son the next day. He was early but healthy. My bff was tired of being pregnant went to the cheesecake factory and delivered 2 days later. With her 3rd child she did the same. I know 2 other people that delivered within a week of eating at the cheesecake factory. Check it out!
Hey girl I never comment but I’ve been perusal you ever since I seen on keesha’s blog I love you and your family and your baby mama dance you going to guess my age because I am going to say it was the bomb I love it that you and your family did it together it was so beautiful I’m going to watch it again after this article is over
Britt, when you are up to it start walking in house ASAP. Boys tend to make women really spread out. It happened to me with my son. I became Fat after I had him, and did no exercise whatsoever. I was a hot mess 16 years ago, and felt I would have been selfish for working out. That boy child weight is stubborn, and loves to stay on the body.
