Avoidant personality disorder (AVPD) is a mental health condition characterized by chronic feelings of inadequacy and extreme sensitivity to criticism. It is often diagnosed after the age of 18, as personality evolves throughout child and adolescent development. Healthcare providers need evidence that these patterns of behavior are enduring and inflexible. AVPD is difficult to diagnose due to the fact that most people with it don’t think there’s a problem with their behavior or thinking. When they seek help, it’s often due to conditions like anxiety or depression from the disorder, such as isolation or a lack of friends.

Researchers found that children who were hit or yelled at more often were more likely to display delinquent or antisocial behavior. This suggests that there’s an environmental component to the antisocial behavior, not genetic. There is no evidence that this induced change in free will beliefs has any effect on morality, such as antisocial behavior, cheating, conformity, or willingness to punish. The twin who gets more harsh parenting is also the more antisocial one.

My girlfriend is like this at the moment. It’s my first proper, longterm relationship. And recently her ability to communicate has just disappeared. She’s never been very talkative but it’s gotten almost unbearable. She gives me the silent treatment a lot which is awful because when she DOES talk to me I have no idea what to say because I don’t want to piss her off. I understand she has things going on in her life at the moment that could be upsetting her but she also knows she can talk to me. I’m not pushy about it either, if she wants to talk then I’m there but I’m not going to force anything. Empathy is the other thing, I don’t know if she realises how awful it makes me feel when she treats me like this. The silence, the cold stares. All I wanna do is make her happy but I just don’t know how anymore.
sounds like personal experience. speaking and listening is communication some are aggressive and some are passive. some shut down so it all becomes a disadvantage. it falls down to wisdom understanding and the ability to detach from objects things and people that serve you no good in your present or future.
I am a bad listener. I have to rewatch things many times to fully comprehend the words a lot. What makes me very bad at listening is because I hear my own thoughts and voices in my head very loudly compared to when someone is talking. It’s like hearing maybe three people talking when only one person is talking to me. And is very bad in crowded areas. It’s so overwhelming I get scared and want to cry when the voices are so loud and I do tend to interrupt someone and ask them to repeat something. Which can be so frustrating for others and I feel like it throws them off their conversation since many times the person will forget what they said and won’t talk to me as much anymore because of that. I want to get better at communication and that’s why I am here. I take way too long to respond to someone when they ask me a simple question. Or get really angry when I don’t understand what they mean. I try to ask them again. But if they are angry I don’t ask anymore and I feel like crying. So I do get scared and become silent because my responses are so bad I feel. And I get really scared about my own responses because I have lost so many friendships over them that I feel really trapped in my own head about it. My very recent loss of a good friend she told me she felt I never listened to her or cared for her. When all I do is think about it so much I want to cry. I feel really awful about how I respond to people and feel like my mind is just loud very loud in my own thoughts.
I’m starting to feel distant from my own mother because of her unwillingness to talk back. Her communication skills is already poor from the lack of responses from Whatsapp, with most of the messages being from me, and her constant critic of my actions made me think that whatever comes out from her mouth will most likely to talk down on me. Thank you for going through this. I just hope she is aware of the lack of communication on her part and how it’s affecting the relationship of the family.
My partner will say…. yeah yeah yeah until i say your bored now so shall i stop talking. Weve been together 9 yrs and when i speak about the future he ignores me to avoid it until i ask to talk and i get the blame… im having one of my “moments” he complains about everyone at work. Yep he lacks empathy if im upset. Wow that just made me feel like im not the crazy person when ive been made to feel like i am
I wonder…it seems that this article could be just as easily titled “10 Signs That There is Non-effective Communication In The Relationship.” For example – what are they communicating when they avoid conflict? I’ve found that for every passive communicator, there is a aggressive component to their partner’s communication. For every identified EQ issue, there is a partner that is impatient with the ‘speed’ or ‘instant-awareness’ that they would find more convenient – sometimes “What are you feeling?” is the hardest question to answer. Silence/Patience is sometimes the greatest overlooked communication skill, especially when we talk about women holding space for men.
I find communication very important. Its 6 months now am seeing my boyfriend and he is so bad, or rather say he doesn’t want to communicate. He can spend a day or two without checking up on me and he finds it normal but to be honest it makes me feel like he doesn’t care, the little i want is him checking up on me. I dont know how to deal with such treatment of silence
What do you do when you’re in a one sided relationship where the woman would always ask you to call or call you like 5x per day,but would never say anything save for, yes,no,yes,no. You pause for a while and she waits for you to speak? You wanna end the call, and she becomes aggressive or agitated. Keeps complaining that you dont wanna talk to her, when you dont even have anything to say any longer.
