  • 18 months ago I started a SOC (Security Operations Center) internship which turned into a full-time job even before getting my CS degree in August 2021. In a week I start as an Information Security Engineer making $90k/yr in the Mountain West region. They needed somebody who had a computer science background and experience in cybersecurity. So many good career paths from a bachelor’s in CS. But the key in my experience to making the most of your degree is developing your soft skills and being hungry to learn more.

  • • computer science • informatics analyst > data science rather than software development side • government related science (🥱) • cyber security analyst • data scientist • devops engineering • cloud engineering/cloud computing (infrastructure and cloud) • site reliability engineering • machine learning and data science engineering • network architecture

  • I’m a welder and I am REALLY interested into going back to school for this degree. I’ve been listening to podcast and articles about the subject and reminded me that I have already worked with logic gates, Boolean algebra, created circuit boards and programmed an arduino back in my sophomore year of HS (2017-2018). I really loved that class but I didn’t know that it was related to computer science (I didn’t even know about the concept of computer science at the time either lmao) or else I would’ve went to university for that instead of business. I’m a welder now cuz I found out I wasn’t interested working in business💀

  • I am late to the party but unfortunately I have skipped a lot of your articles Shane strictly due to the fact that it did not strike my interest or didnt not pertain to my major, however since it was CS/Tech related I clicked very fast! I am almost done with my undergrad in computer science as i will be done by this christmas. So this article will influence my next carrer path, so I thank you for your content and hard work Shane! plus a comment for the algo! keep on rockin Shane!

  • What about career in the quant industry? Their earnings are easily 3x those shown in this article. Companies like Citadel, Jane Street, Two Sigma, Hudson River, etc.. etc.. Fresh grads with CS/math gets a basic salary of $300K on top of bonus. Think that’s impossible? Just google for those names. But they only hire the best. If you are the best in class and you love finance, that could be a great career choice.

  • I’m 16 I don’t know about this major much but what exactly do you learn and do in a daily work day and is it hard and is it the best easiest jobs that you can make a lot of money? (Can anyone please answer this all to me I’m really lost and trying to figure out what to do I only have a little amount of time left too)

  • So as someone who eventually one day wants to work in data science industry, is there an entry level job role that one can apply as a starting point and just get promoted/ level up to a data science in time rather than just trying to apply for a data science position from the get go? I dont mind starting at the bottom and working my way up the ladder.
