  • Genius! I was born in 1952 and rarely go out so I thought I may not find a fancy and easy hairstyle to look forward to doing while waiting forever to grow my hair long again. Perhaps I COULD wear my hair so pretty like this, not get a headache and wind up cutting my hair again. I may be 70 but I still love to get that look of surprise and appreciation from the love of my life that I did some new ‘look’ for him while we stay in for our daily date of perusal Antiques Roadshow–lol! Subscribed.

  • HI Lainey I am very traumatised soul and one of many burdens is not knowing how to style up my very Indian, Black, Frizzy,Ugly, Boring, Curly hair! I tried this to the best of my ability with a few alterations but no matter what it looks like I am keeping it as it because I have no energy in my Fibromyalgia ridden body to lift my arms any further . People can say, do, think, believe whatever they want but I know I have put in the time and effort to style up my hair, I’ve also applied a setting lotion and althouhg it’s late afternoon I intend to battle thrugh the anxiety and go for a walk on this Jubilee Weekend Friday! Pray For Me!

  • My hair is so annoying to style myself, it’s long, coarse and thick which makes it really hard to create updos that last all day and night. This tutorial worked perfectly! ❤ The hairstyle fits formal events, feels so secure even with thick hair and looks like a professional made it although I made it with my own hands!

  • Okay I already commented but GIRL. Let me tell you. I suck at this stuff and I mean SUCK. I’ve never been able to follow any online hair tutorials. After two times, I was able to pull it off and I am in shock. I cannot wait to wear this out. Thank you so much. I finally have an elegant up-do to wear for formal events.

  • I had to try this hairstyle only twice before I got it perfected, and let me tell you it feels so secure when I’m used to my hair flying around everywhere. I actually wore it to bed as well, and woke up the next morning w it still very intact. & it looks so unique and beautiful for an everyday/casual or formal occasion. Very quick and easy too. Thanks for sharing!

  • You have completely blown my brain with this tutorial my lovely! I’m a zero-maintenance girl (see pic 😬)I cant even blow dry my hair, and it’s ponytail or pony rolled into a sort of bun-that my hair skills. By choice really as I’ve always been so into my outdoor pursuits and books that I never got into makeup & hair other than grooming and basics. But THIS!!! I got it straight away, it took minutes and looks so beautiful & like I have mad skills 😮😀 Thankyou for sharing 👊🏼🙏🏼😚😚😚

  • The most beautiful, easy and best hair tutorial! So glad this article was recommended to me. I have mid length straight baby fine hair and have never ever (I’m 43) been able to style my own hair…until now! I did need to use a little texture spray before using this hack as my hair was slipping out where I didn’t want it to. Thank you so very much for for this awesome to the point but thoroughly shown and explained article. It’s spot on, brilliant and exactly what I needed. Very excited to become your newest subscriber and to see more of your magically quick, easy and gorgeous styles! ❤️ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦

  • That’s really clever and lovely….my hair is so so fine though, I don’t think I have enough volume to do all those splits at the back 😪 but love it thou. I’m getting married in may/June and wanted my hair similar to that…what a joy it would have been to cross hairdresser from the list of people to see and in five mins just do myself like you did! Sigh! 🙋‍♀️😘💕💐👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 love n hugs Helen in U.K. xx😺🌹

  • First off you are SO SWEET and also GORGEOUS! I have saved many of these articles but always wondered how well I could do them on myself; I’ve had therapy for stretched tendon in my shoulder… I’ve saved this to my notes… my hair is nearly as long as yours(altho I’m 62) and highlighted blonde with streaks. I’ve been wearing a side pony or braid mostly, hot curls when going out but that’s just starting to happen! I am SO excited to see something I can do for MYSELF for everyday that also looks CLASSY! Yay! God Bless You! Oh and curling those tendons will look darling!!

  • This is the most sturdy hairstyle, it stayed up for my whole shift at McDonald’s! I have been looking for a hairstyle that doesn’t fall out, thank you I will be using this every shift now. Edit: It may stay up for my whole shift but it takes me forever to do it takes me like 20 minutes to put this up, also it is very hard to take out. There’s is too many elastics and hair ties that it cause many tangles. I will be looking for a new hairstyle to wear to work because this takes too long and too many supplies. Also I don’t always have this many elastics on hand, you need a lot of bobby pins.

  • That’s so pretty. I love your hair articles but can never achieve the same look. My hair is really fine and I don’t have a lot of it so. It’s also wavy and straight in some places … it’s basically all over the place lol. Is there a way you can do some hairstyles for fine, thin hair? I always end up either straightening it or putting it up in a pony tail.

  • Amazing, this is such a good fast updo, I’ve used it a few times now. Doesn’t look anything like yours in my graying, frizzy hair, but still much neater than anything I’ve tried up until now. And it stays tight all day 🙂 I wish I had seen this 20 years ago, would have saved me from so many tears. Thank you!

  • Tried this; hair tails would not stay through the top/diagonal twisted strands & kept slipping out, subsequent attempts to secure the hair tails woven through the top twisted strands led to uncontrollable flyaways that made the entire construction looked like a bird’s-nest mess, not a smooth and neat braid-effect bun as shown in the article. At that point I bailed lol. Anyone have troubleshooting tips? Thanks!

  • Thank you so so much! I’m regularly stressed out and frustrated when it comes to styling my own very long hair for formal events. Even if I manage to do a simple updo I am never satisfied with the result and it takes ages and many nerves to get there. Finally I will be able to do this wonderful and yet so simple updo and keep my nerves. 💚 I will also try your other hairstyles. Best wishes from Germany!

  • I went to save this but I’d already saved it! I haven’t tried it yet though. These updos looks so pretty on blondes because of the gradations of color in your hair. I’m a brunette and I guess it just doesn’t inspire me as much with the way my hair is probably going to look but I need to try it! Thanks for sharing it.

  • THANK YOU!!! I am hopeless with hairstyles and I’m going to a wedding tomorrow. Sooo many articles are just too hard and only suitable for long hair with no layers. I have medium length hair but a lot of layers, and I have practiced this hairstyle twice now and both times I have successfully managed this updo!

  • This works a treat on my knee length hair, and is now my go to updo. It’s my go to for getting hair up and back for my theatre company, too. It works modified as well. Without the two bobbles, with all the hair flipped, only part of it woven in to leave a section down, pulling it all though one side then the other… I could go on. Knee length, curly hair… up fancy enough for black tie awards nights in a few minutes with one bobbles and a couple of pins. Total game changer!!

  • This looks very easy to do I’ve done it twice but what I have noticed is your hair is a lot thicker than mine and I think that makes all the difference although that doesn’t stop me from doing it again it doesn’t exactly look like yours but for the holidays shove in a little bit of bling and it’s perfectly fine I’ve done it like I said a few times and I’ll go out to the supermarket like this but this works a whole lot better if you have Thick hair if you have find hair it doesn’t look as nice

  • Thank you so much for this ! I have struggled with a way to put my hair up for… forever! It would always end up giving me a headache or I failed because it took too long and I couldn’t follow any tutorials. My hair is waist length, very straight and very stringy, AND heavy! this bun actually is comfortable and HOLDS and I was able to follow your tutorial thank you so much. Finally something that doesn’t involve teasing and five thousand bobby pins (as if I have time for that!!!)

  • You are my hero! I have horrible frizzy, dry, rebellious hair so I always wind up braiding it because I can’t think of anything else to do with it. I’m a housekeeper and landscaper so my braids often get in the way when I’m working. I’ve tried to put it in a bun but it always falls out. I was actually looking for a article on how to make a bun that stays in place when I found this article. OMG! this is my new FAVORITE hair style! I’ve done it twice already and I’m in love! It stays in place all day! And the best part is it stays flat on my head so my bandana isn’t twisted to one side and it’s so comfortable! I love you for making this article! ❤

  • I have always been able to do makeup like a MUA, but when it comes to hair i was not as blessed. I did this style three times already and had so many compliments. Even a bunch of moms at my childs school asked me who did my hair 😂 I tried following along many hair tutorials over the years and only yours ever was simple to follow and looked exactly like you show. Thank you for not having me remain hair challenged any longer.

  • I loved the thought of this, but when it comes to the part where I need to pull my hair through the loops, it’s impossible. 😩Either the hole is blocked by other hair and hard to get the ponytail through or when I do get it through, it just slips right back out. Tried with a texture spray too since my hair’s pretty fine and slippery but still couldn’t do it. Also don’t recommend clear elastics on fine hair, they’re impossible to get out without tearing hair out. I wish I could make this work, it looks so cute and I have such a hard time with any updo hairstyles.

  • Proverbs 1:7 KJV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 8:13 KJV The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Romans 10:9 KJV That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. John 3:16 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:36 KJV He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 17:3 KJV And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. Acts 2:38 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

  • I did just give a major kudos to my post below, but forgot to ask- where’s the best place/website to find these accessories? I’ve looked on-line briefly, several places and all I found were scrunchies, scarves (which I kind of like), bobby pins, and did I mention scrunchies, scrunchies ? lol. Where can I find these tools ??

  • Is there any way to this style WITHOUT elastic bands? Every time I use an elastic band on my hair, I inevitably lose hair with it. And this one requires FOUR of them. I wish I could figure out a way to do this style without them. When I try to use bobby pins, the whole thing just falls on my very long, very straight hair. Any ideas or tips would be welcome!

  • ❤ I think it’s a very classy look and it looks really beautiful on you!!! I have also seen this before but I thought you made it look easier! I have tried it before but my hair wasn’t long enough yet because I let my daughter talk me into cutting it off, what a regret I had right after! I’m going to try this again since it’s grown out hopefully enough!! Thanks for sharing! 🥰

  • You should use Yarn instead of these clear rubber bands that break your har. The more you pull and tighten the hair it will begin to start splitting the hair…….. Go to “George Michael’s of Madison” NYC and call them for their book on hair. Better yet, come to NYC for a tutorial. You could do this hairdo with long bobby pins, and such.

  • I’m going to watch this article a few dozen times more before trying this on my little girl. Any recommendations for simple styles for hair that is dry? I.e. on these cold mornings, because I don’t want to give her a head cold. I need simple styles because I have minimal experience dressing hair (mainly because I’m a bloke with not a lot of interest in health and beauty and she’s my first child) and she’s an autistic 4 year old so sitting still is hit or miss.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I have somehow managed to grow my hair from shoulder length all the way down to my butt in the past few years. I call it my Covid hair, since not being able to go to the salon is how it all began. I’ve become rather attached to my Covid hair, but wearing it down just doesn’t work so well for me. Massive tangles by the end of the day. This is fabulous! Five minutes and I’m done. And that’s with a broken arm!

  • Unfortunately, my hair isn’t long enough for this look. My hair is what I would call “medium length,” maybe 3 or 4 inches shorter than the poster’s hair. I barely had any hair to “hang down” for the second step of pulling through (certainly not enough to wrap it around and secure the ends underneath). It looks really nice in the article but unfortunately won’t work for me.

  • Hi I love your articles thank you so much. I have a long International flight. Have long hair. Any tips or article how I can style my hair and get it looking great once I arrive in my destination? As well as product to use? I have very thin hair and it always notty on airplane trips as well as when I sleep. Thank you

  • Just tried this on my shoulder length hair (just because some people consider “medium length” to be shoulder length while others consider medium length to be an inch or two below the shoulder so I thought why not). Definitely this is more for someone whose hair is an inch or two below the shoulder, but if you do it right you can just manage one pull-through before you pin it under.

  • The slower motions you used while twisting your hair were really helpful. That’s essentially how I used to put really long hair in an alligator clip. I didn’t realize it was that simple, I was overthinking it, and assuming there was another step I was missing. . It’s exactly the same motion and twist.

  • Thank you for this episode! It saved me last Saturday. I couldn’t secure a hair appointment for my highlights and blow dry. I decided for the first time to try something new. I found your website and wow, I received soooo many compliments on my French twist. Great website, and thanks for the step by step instructions. Some other websites, they spoke too fast and didn’t describe what they were doing. Keep up the great work!

  • Wow that looks so pretty and you make it look so very easy….I hope I am able to do it with such ease. My hair is down to my waist and sometimes I have trouble doing styles like this …seems like there’s always that little bit of extras … but after perusal some of these tutorials I know what to do with them…Bobby pins are our friends! Thank you for helping the hair illiterates like me! 😜

  • I have done my hair like this for decades but using a side comb to fasten. Point the tips of the sidecomb into the roll fairly close to your head and pointing back towards your hand that is holding it. Gently tip the side comb over until it is aligned with the curve of your head and the blunt end faces the hand holding the comb. Slide the comb slightly towards your scalp then flat against your head and push in. I used to do this every morning to keep my hair up in the shower.

  • I have been doing similar thing for a couple of years, except I twist the opposite way (using right hand fingers) and instead of pins, I use a French clip on top. It is really the easiest technique and I get many compliments on it (even though I don’t have great hair). I enjoyed perusal what you do!

  • Hi babe it was a treat to hear you. Also it’s a rare compliment, and you may like it too. Here it is. Looking at your shade of hair color I think there would be thousands women if not more, would literally STOP hair coloring ! 🤩🤩That looks so wonderfully beautiful style with the share of your hair combined. Loved perusal you, can’t stop hearing you. 😄😄😄

  • It has been literal decades since I let my hair get long enough to pin it in any fashion, so I’m super unpracticed and lack a lot of tools for hair styling. This article just randomly appeared on my feed so I gave it a look, and I’m legitimately stunned that I could do this. I don’t have pins of any sort, but I do have clips, those big claw-type ones that look like an actual spider when you open them. It’s enough to keep the bun pinned and I’m just still so surprised that I could even do this much. In other words: thanks.

  • I used to do this all the time, and in more recent times when I’ve done it I just couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get it right. The sing that adds the finishing Beauty to it is after twisting, pulling that hair up on the side to keep a uniform shape across the bun… “That French bun look. And also, how did I get to my old age without thinking of bending the u-pins?! 😄

  • It’s kind of funny because that is exactly how I do twist my hair up when I put it up however I have never done it Loosely or pulled up the side to create the outside of the twist or use those bobby pins as I’ve never heard of them before so very similar process. Thank you for this and I will look for those pins although my hair is very thin and fine so I might be able to get away with just regular large bobby pins instead I’m definitely going to play with it and see how it looks❤

  • Oh wow. This looked lovely! I actually do the first portion of this tutorial when I want my super long hair out of the way and just need to quickly get it up quickly. I do the low pony tail and twist you did and then I just pin it. I never ever thought about pulling the bottom part of the hair up to cover the twist and turn it into a ‘french twist’ and make it look more chic!! I’m definitely going to try it!!
