Style Tips For Jeans Cowboy Boots?

Cowboy boots are a timeless Western style that can be effortlessly paired with jeans, skirts, shorts, jackets, and more. The art of styling jeans with cowboy boots offers countless possibilities, from tucking jeans into the boot shaft to experimenting with different types of jeans and boots. Wide-leg jeans are a popular choice for fashionistas.

To avoid a cowboy look when wearing denim on denim, mix different washes or textures for contrast and add modern accessories like statement pieces. Denim shorts are a fresh way to show off your boots and let them speak for themselves. Paired with a simple t-shirt and blazer, it’s the perfect balance of style.

A general rule of thumb is to wear medium to dark-wash jeans over your boots (not tucked in), as the jeans should be fairly form-fitting in the boot shaft. Short boots or booties work well for layering under jeans, but tall-shaft boots can also be styled under baggy-fit denim.

For those wondering how to pair cowboy boots with jeans, the experts at Tecovas offer tips on how to do so. They recommend pairing medium to dark-wash jeans over your boots, as they should be fairly form-fitting in the boot shaft. For added flair, layer with a denim jacket or a leather fringe vest.

Is it OK to tuck jeans into cowboy boots?

Tucking jeans into cowboy boots is generally acceptable for various situations, such as field roping or working on a ranch. However, narrow-cut Western jeans are recommended for these situations. Opt for ropers instead of traditional Western boots, as they have a rounded toe, shorter shaft, and squared heel, making them better for walking and running. Tucking jeans into cowboy boots serves three purposes: preventing dirt, providing better access to the kick-off heel, and protecting legs from branches, brush, thorns, and wildlife.

Riding a horse through mud or puddles is another appropriate situation, as cowboy boots are water-resistant, keeping feet and pants dry and dirt-free. After the day, clean off your cowboy boots following the care guide.

For festivals or concerts, jeans should be tucked into cowboy boots to keep pants dry and clean. Women can wear skinny jeans or leggings into cowgirl boots for a fun country concert or festival look. Overall, cowboy boots are suitable for various situations, but it’s important to clean them after use.

  • GUYS WITH BIGGER LEGS: The Wrangler 20×01 Competition bootcut jeans are awesome with both regular J toe, broad or narrow square and cutter toes. I think they are usually 65-70 in price and they have the rubber waistband that grips your shirt and keeps it tucked. I don’t see people wearing them often but they are dang good jeans.

  • I generally stick with wranglers cowboy cut. Either in a traditional cowboy cut or 936 slim . I do have a pair of Magellan outdoor pants got from Academy, sports and outdoors, but those are just some. I don’t care what happened those pants. I just love my wranglers so much they go great with any boot and I sized up in length can I also two was a a 30 or 31 in length, but I found out that a 32 length does a whole lot better with boots especially if I’m sitting down, they don’t rise up too much or even at all and they look good because they stack. But I’m always gonna wear wranglers.

  • Personally I wear my cowboy cuts with wider boots majority of the time because I have a wide frame with short legs so the cowboy cuts tend to be to wide and drag the ground. I wear alot of slim straights including cinch, Wrangler, and Rock n’ Roll Denim and they all fit different. My boot style is very diverse too so I can pretty much have atleast on jeans that will work with each boot. Overall the best fitting hace been the Rock n’ Roll Denim revolver slim straights and especially the vintage 46 line bc they are just slightly wider at the leg opening but not to wide for most of my boots.

  • How far do you size up in the M5 so for example I wear a 35×32 in wrangler 936 (my normal size is 34×30) I size up to get the stack on my jeans right so with that being said how far would you size up in Ariat m5 straight jeans ? Appreciate your articles also I never knew i actually wore a 32 length jeans until I watched your articles I’d been wearing the wrong length since high school

  • Very good information… I’m not a cowboy but I really like the square toe cowboy boots. Problem is none of my current jeans will go with a them. Not sure you can answer this other question but I’ll ask it anyway I also like to wear pants in ripstop material with cargo pockets could you suggest a proper boot for that style?

  • Hi everyone !! Being very attracted by the US and the American Culture, i am obviously interested in buying this famous Santiag’s. Indeed, these boots become trendy among young people, who dress themselves with the cowboy style (short shirt, white tank underneath, jeans or double knee pant, hat…). I’m a French guy so i « get taste » (idk how to say that haha), and i know fashion, but as i’m not American idk what would be the best (chic, classy and qualitative) cow-boy boots and which pants should i wear with them. Can anyone helps me ? Thank you in advance !!

  • So I also love wrangler cowboy cut, and the slim fit cowboy cut. Being that I’m more of a tall slender build. But I’m looking at getting a pair of the wrangler retro slim fit bootcut. Just for something with a bit more give for more casual wear. Would you recommend I go one or two sizes up in length with those with a square toe boot. It seems like they definitely fan out more like a lot of boot cut. But we definitely don’t need them dragging or swallowing the boot lol.

  • I gotta ask man, does starching too much affect stack sometimes, like there too stiff to stack..? I used to wear 30x34s and and they stacked great until washed a couple times. Now I buy 30×36 and I either feel like I’m swimming in em or they stacking up on my thighs and knees not really around my boots. 30x34s rise up when I sit down though.. Not sure what to do. Lol

  • I’ve more than a few custom embroidered boots, yet I agree, never tuck your pants leg inside the boots shaft. Rather, crossing your legs at the knees allows for your embroidery and other special details to be appreciated. Last, cowboy boots only highlight a man’s body, if he’s tall and moderately built, not rotund. A rotund man appears clownish in cowboy boots. 😢 All the best.

  • So I’ve befriended a new group recently and they all love country line dancing which has led me to research on which western boot im gonna need for dancing. I’ve narrowed it down that most people prefer a leather outsole (assuming for better sliding while dancing) and they love the snip toe style boot. But I’m wondering, does anyone know why everyone prefers the snip toe boot for country line dancing? Most of the pro country line dancers also wear a snip toe. Love the articles btw, you def live up to the “best dressed cowboy” name haha keep it going.

  • This gentlemen is the beat dressed cowboy and gives good advice. I personally dont like the look of stacked jeans. To me it looks sloopy like your pants don’t fit you. I wear boots everyday no matter what the occasion is, work, office, date night, etc. Also, the individual’s build has a lot to do with it. Ive seen skinny guys who cant fill in a pair of regular jeans and stacking their jeans only makes it look worse, like they are swimming in their jeans. I like a 16in leg opening for narrow boots and 17 to 17.5 inch for square toes. A one and a half break at the boot and Im good.
