The wide-leg style aims to complement your petite frame by choosing a slimmer leg opening style, such as a straight-leg style or a “cropped” wide-leg bottom. A 25-26″ petite inseam is recommended for the perfect ankle length. Shoes play a significant role in elevating the pant hem or keeping it grounded. Classic ballet flats or sky-high platforms can be used to create an elongated look without overwhelming your silhouette or shoes. Pointed-toe pumps or platforms can be a cute juxtaposition with the wide hem. A colorful crossbody or bold clutch can complete the look.
The versatility of wide-leg pants also depends on the style and length of the top you wear. A tucked-in button-down with a leather belt or a tied-knot graphic tee can add visual interest. Layering with a long item or over a tank or tucked-in tee can give more visual interest. Balancing a wide-leg silhouette with a more tailored or fitted top can hide your frame, but tucking in your go-to flowy tops can give a balanced look.

📹 24 Ways to Wear ONE Pair of Wide Leg Pants in *UNDER 10 MINS*+ Announcement! | Slow Fashion
Ciao everyone, today I’m sharing 24 ways to style one pair of wide-leg pants. I hope it inspires you to shop your closet and create …
Love them all! I’d probably tuck away the scarf belt, just me . I must share, I just stopped by Goodwill yesterday and rocked it. Thought of you, picked up some great belts @1.99 ea, found a beautiful little black dress for 6.99 several, I believe 4 white jeans in perfect condition @ 6.00 ea, two of them were Levi’s, also a pair of Levi vintage jeans button fly for 4.00 . I have a passion for thrifting, the thrill of hunt is awesome! Oh wait there’s more, I found a great shirt dress and a sweet grey and white embroidered one @ 6.00 ea. The shirt dress was a thrill, I had been one from Zara, but a bit pricey for me. It’s styled opened at the waist with white jeans, I created the look (not 100 percent, but at least 85 percent for $12.00 dollars!! Wooohoooo Now looking at this article I actually am missing a short type of button down sweater, I guess I’ll be going thrifting again 😳
Oh my! I took so many screen shots for inspiration!!! Thank you for this super helpful article. The thing I noticed most was that most of the tops were fitted which offset the wide leg of the bottom so that’s what I’m carrying with me from this article. But there were also a couple of looks that I would never have thought to put together so I’m excited to try those.
OooO I loved this, especially the portion play with the white shirt dress, made you look miles long and so chic! I love wide legged pants, even though they make me look even shorter, I embrace it! Thanks for this article! Monday? Oh I’m pulling out olive green to wear with mine, the inspiration!!! Woooohoo! Oh and I really hope I can be at the next interactive! That sounds so fun!
Miss Alyssa, my Sunday morning treat! Thank you for your inspiration, awesome dance moves 😉 and ability to take one thing and show us over and over that we can be creative. I LOVE IT! All the outfits were beautiful and I think my favourite is the Long White Shirt and Moto Jacket. I have a Long White Shirt and never thought of doing that with it. Just bought my ticket to your LiveStudio as I cannot think of a better way to spend my birthday 🙂 than with you and like minded fashionistas. I am looking so forward to it. Thank you for your generous heart and sharing your creativity. Have a great week
Although your article is a year old, it was great to watch. I just bought a pair of dark denim wide-leg jeans and after perusal your article, I went straight to my closet and started “shopping.” I’ve been perusal your articles while you’ve been in Europe (and before) and seeing this older article and seeing your home closet, I was thinking what a treat it must be to now have so many choices available to you. I am definitely not your target audience (I’m 72), I live in Southern California (few jackets needed), nor am I tall and slim like you (I’m 5’0″), but I still appreciate many of the looks that you put together to help me look modern, not frumpy. Thank you!
Such a fun article! Sorry to say I couldn’t come up with a favorite… I came up with favoriteS. Black Cami with or without black jacket, graphic T with or without black jacket, wrapped light blue blouse, white shirtdress with jacket, black turtleneck, olive bodysuit with or without camel jacket. And, of course, beautiful blue coat. Okay. I’m inspired!
I loved this article! I have a pair of Part Two (Danish brand) periwinkle blue wide-leg trousers (with gorgeous blazer) I bought in Sweden around 1997 that are in perfect shape and I just started wearing them again! Mostly with a tee shirt and white Supergas and they are amazing! Thanks so much, Alyssa!
Looooove my wide leg dress pants!! Sadly they’re just collecting dust in my closet cuz wfh and more casual attire when I did go to the office. Being 6 ft and lean I always felt great in them. I love flowy pants and I received compliments all the time. You looked amazing in everything! How tall are you? I did cringe a bit when the pants were dragging on the floor with sneakers. I can’t do that to my pants. They have to just barely touch the ground. 😂 Loved this!!💕👍🏼👌🏼
One of my favourite series! Hi Alyssa!!! All fantastic ideas. My favourite must have been the one with the longer white button down and a narrow black scarf – so many beautiful layers. Your creativity is unparalleled. And your dancing skills are out of this world! Have a wonderful week, Bella! 🍁🌺😘 P.S. You always evoke an excessive use of exclamation marks in my written expression I noticed.🙈🤣🤣🤣
My fave was the oatmeal tall funnel neck sweater with the cognac jacket. That sweater just makes everything it’s paired with gold! But so many great combos here. I’d love to find a good pair. Any tips for those 5’5″ and under besides proper hemming? If you’re shorter, is it best to look for ones which are slightly fitted in the hips?
Brilliant articlem thank you! I’m so glad I’ve kept my wide-legged trousers even when skinny jeans were all the rage. They are well over a decade old but look new and one of them is black, with thin beige vertical stripes. It’s perfect with white or black tops and also other colors, including shirts in autumn and warm turtle necks in winter, with my camel or black coat – even my cherry red coat, black or beige jackets, and the beige or wine leather jackets that I have. And for very cold weather, my cream (fake) shearling jacket.
Thankyou Alyssa. I will be choosing an outfit from this collection you have put together on Friday of this week. I have a shopping date planned with a girlfriend and already had thought of wearing my black wide legged trousers. It is summer over here. I will let you know what i come up with. Cheers Bev xx
Spectacular! Loved all the outfits you came up with. My favorites, the one with olive green shirt and tan blazer, and the one with long white blouse and black jacket. Needless to say I loved anything with jean jacket or jean blouse. Congratulations on this article. It was really entertaining and gives a lot of ideas.
Loved this article as always! ❤️ However since the weather has turned to rain and slush now I am looking forward to more winter outfit ideas. I loved the blue wool coat outfit though but I dont think I could ever wear my coat unbuttoned and no scarf over here unless I had another light weight down jacket under it and the scarf was tucked in under that. To be honest this open coat trend is just not my cup of tea because I am always freezing and it gets very chilly especially if it is windy. How do people do that… Anyways keep up the good work! Ciao!💕
Hi Alyssa, I’d love a article on how to incorporate wide leg trousers into a capsule wardrobe based on a slim leg silhouette. I love wide leg trousers but find that I have no cold season shoes to wear with them because my boots are round-toed which is fine with skinnies but looks a bit scruffy with wide hems. And I’d need more cropped, tighter tops. All this new expense prevents me from trying this trend I really like. Or have I got this wrong?
This is my favorite article! I’ve been on the hunt for striped, wide-leg trousers. I ordered a pair that I didn’t love. Then I went into a thrift store the other day and there was a small rack of clothes. I found a beautiful pair of striped trousers. They were a size up, but I figured for $8 I could get them altered. To my delight, they fit (loosely) and I don’t have to alter them. I love the loose fit. I wore them all day yesterday even though I was home most of the day. That is when you know you’ve found something comfy- you don’t mind wearing them while at home.
you should have done a voiceover when you were styling it- mentioning what top you were choosing, the color, the material and how to dress it up- for the visually impaired and even people who like to listen to it while doing something else so they can still know what you are doing… it would have been a perfect article for them.
these articles are my FAVORITE. Last week I was so stuck and I went back to an old article of white-t shirt 20 ways and I left the house looking cute. It’s just so easy to forget to layer and mix things up…my favorite look was the white dress over the pants with the shorter jacket and the tie tossed over your neck…amaz-balls. Thank you!
Hi, just wanted to say that I really enjoyed it – you are a genius 👍Every outfit you picked looks amazing on you (and the styling of your hair and accessories too) and complements the trousers, but my favourite is the navy jumper with petit scarf. Thank you for the style inspo, hope to see more of these!
Wowzer…that was awesome! I can’t believe one pair of pants can create so many different style vibes…so inspirational. And, looking forward to the upcoming fashion studio. And, I liked all the outfit combinations but especially loved the white shirt dress over the pants…very unique. Thanks, Alyssa!
I just got dressed this morning with my wide leg pants. They are mustard yellow. I paired with an orange long sleeve tee, then a buttercup yellow button up left out and then a leopard print cardigan buttoned up with a belt. I love it. I wouldn’t have thought of this before perusal you and then here I watch and that is what you are highlighting! Thank you
You are so talented with putting looks together and you are also a lovely model! You are also obviously very tall. I wonder if you have a petite model friend that you could feature in a article. You could showcase your styling talent while she models your ideas to help some of us who are blessed with shorter stature. Love your articles!
I kept thinking I’d found my fave look and then the next one came along! But I think my faves were the cream funnel neck with the brown leather jacket and the one with the black fuzzy vest. Love the 70s vibes. But then the leopard jacket brought it home! I love my wide-legged trousers. How long should the be? Cover the shoe? Halfway show the shoe?
She just can’t help it — breaking out into her adorable funky dance! Alyssa, I just love wide-leg trousers so I thumbs-up every single look, but just when I was thinking to myself, “I wonder what a tunic would look like with the trousers?” there you were in your white tunic/dress over the trousers. Oh! That one was smashing! What I noticed (after perusal twice) was that I really liked the looks that were belted. This was one of my most favorite “One ____ 20 Ways” articles. Thank you! I mostly have thrifted my wide-leg trousers because I don’t see any out there currently that I like. Anybody?
Echoing what everyone else has said so far – these all look amazing, and is a reminder why you’re my hands-down favorite style website here on YouTube! I have a pair of wide-legged black pants that are in my “thrift store upcycle pile”, and I’m going to have to pull those out, see where I wanted to make tailoring adjustments, and make that happen. It’s really impossible for me to pick a favorite, although I love the chambray shirt and white belt look. Also, the knotted black t-shirt – who knew? Thanks as always for being a great part of my Sunday morning :).
You opened my eyes to a whole new set of wardrobe options when you did this with shirt dresses. This wide leg trouser version was great too. How about an over the knee boots set of styling options? Thank you as ever for your inspiring and creative presentations. You help me to think about me, just a little each week, and that in itself is really appreciated. I love your taste.
I love so many of these looks! I love wide-leg trousers so much and they work really well on my tall-curvy shape. I usually style with at tucked in vintage blouse or cardigan and a statement belt. The looks I’m most excited to try are the oatmeal colored thick sweater layered with the brown leather jacket at 6:43, the tie-waisted striped shirt at 2:33, and of course that white shirt dress with the long black tie at 4:52.
