How To Set Up Windows’ Mingw Minimal Gnu?

MinGW is a native Windows port of the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC), offering freely distributable import libraries and header files for building native Windows applications. It includes extensions to the MSVC runtime to support C99 functionality. MinGW is used by the compiler system to produce Windows programs, and Win32 ports of GCC, GDB, and binutils are used to build native Win32 programs that rely on no third-party DLLs.

To install MinGW on Windows 11, follow these steps: download the MinGW installation manager, run the installer, and configure the package. To set mingw-get up for first-time use, run the mingw-get-setup.exe tool. The MinGW installation manager can be downloaded from the SourceForge website.

To install mingw-get, visit the MinGW files repository at http. The basic GCC compiler suite can be installed at your location. To install MinGW, download and install the packages using the MinGW installer. Add MinGW bin to the system path.

MinGW is a native Windows port of the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) along with several other essential GNU packages. To download and install MinGW, click on the Download button on the website.

  • Thank you so much for this helpful article, Geeky Script! Your guide on installing MinGW w64 on Windows 10/11 was exactly what I needed. I had been struggling with this issue, and your clear instructions made the process much easier for me. I truly appreciate your valuable content and the effort you put into sharing your knowledge. Keep up the great work, as it is making a difference for learners like me. Thank you again!

  • Thanks for your example find it a bit confusing at first about path environmental variable on Windows11….another thing with regular cmd prompt you can’t do cmd> cd ~ to goto home directory so you have to use powershell Not sure if you use npp (notepad++) also sort of confusing you have to go into npp script and set the flags.

  • You saved me, thank you!! Typing “cmd” on the file explorer blew my mind. Maybe one interesting input: my .c code was crashing upon compilation with the message “libiconv could not be located”. I found out that I had to place MinGW on PATH NECESSARILY above my path to GnuWin32, otherwise there was some conflict. After I fixed this, I could run the code 🙂

  • What about C++23? This looks like just older C++. On the command line the newest I can get this to execute is with the -std=c++17 option for C++ 2017, but C++ 2023 (apparently) uses the command line option -std=c++2b, and this will not work with that. Where can latest (C++23) be downloaded, or don’t they have that?

  • Hello! Thank you for the article, was really good But I have a problem, at the end when you are supposed to compile the helloworld.c file on the cmd pannel, It doesn’t work for me, it says that the file doesn’t exist (and yes I’m in the right directory). Any idea how to fix this? I tried with another tutorial and got the same issue so I’m a bit desperate

  • I tried to follow the tutorial but I recieved this error while compiling a simple hello world code. Can Anyone help me??
