Vitamin D is a critical nutrient for the body, but vegetarians have limited sources. Some vegetarian options include soy products, tofu, and plant-based milk. Tofu is one of the best foods for vegetarians to take in a good amount of vitamin D.
Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin” because our bodies produce it when exposed to sunlight. It is important for maintaining physical health and supporting mental health. Natural sources of vitamin D for vegetarians include fungi, vegetables like kale and spinach, fruits, and plant milks like soy, rice, hemp, oat, or almond milk. Consuming vitamin D-rich fruits can be a vital addition to a vegetarian’s diet.
Fortified plant-based milk, such as oat, almond, and soy milk, contains good amounts of calcium and Vitamin D, making it a good food source of Vitamin D in Vegetarian Food and Calcium. Magnesium-rich foods like fish, seafood, and red meat are also good sources of Vitamin D. Non-meat alternatives include tofu, mushrooms, and fortified cereals and grains.
In summary, vegetarians can increase their vitamin D intake through safe sun exposure, supplements, and incorporating certain foods into their diet. Tofu, mushrooms, and other vegetarian-friendly foods are some of the best options for obtaining vitamin D.
