How To Modify The Lifestyler Treadmill’S Belt?

To adjust a treadmill belt, locate the screws near the roller axle and turn the treadmill on. Adjust the speed to 3 miles or less and adjust the screws. If the belt needs loosening, turn the screws clockwise. Keep adjusting until the belt does not slip and is in the center.

To reduce friction and minimize wear, apply a non-oil, non-petroleum-base silicone lubricant to the walking belt. Unplug the treadmill and walk on the entire surface of the walking belt for 10 minutes to break in the platform. Adjust the speed slowly until you are familiar with the treadmill’s operation. Hold the handrail and step carefully onto the walking belt.

To adjust the tension on your treadmill belt, locate the bolts near the rear of the treadmill and use a wrench to add tension. Turn both bolts one-quarter clockwise on both sides of the treadmill belt. Insert the power cord, insert the safety key, and run the treadmill for a few minutes until the belt is properly tightened.

To tighten the belt, turn the Allen wrench one-quarter clockwise on both sides of the treadmill belt. To loosen the belt, turn the Allen screw to release the walking belt tension. Lift the rear roller up and out of the mounting bracket.

  • NOTE: This product works exactly as described. youtube.com/post/UgkxguEIMc_Qwab-3QMTpF6jaRL80hiOOsIN It originally earned a four-star review due to a minor defect (see below). However, the manufacturer’s customer service rep (Lita) went above and beyond the call of duty and deserves five stars now. I wish I could give even more!I purchased this item which arrived quickly. Assembly instructions were easy to follow. There was only one problem: One bolt did not screw into the hole properly. I called the company. Their customer service rep (Lita) was terrific! She took all my information and submitted a request to replace the defective part. I’m hoping to finish assembly and start using this treadmill soon. (Fingers crossed…)FOLLOW UP: Lita called back to inform me that the company will send a replacement part AND a technician(!!) to install it properly. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Thank you!!

  • All these articles show the same thing. BUT, after I centered my new treadmill’s belt as shown, it looks cocked as if it isn’t centered at the OTHER END near the motor. Is it just a matter of it will center itself if I keep the bottom end centered? Or, do I have to take the motor cover off and fidgit with something at that end?

  • Wow! Great instructional article! Clear, concise and efficient. Removing the plastic covers gave me a better idea exactly what the centering process was, moving the roller forward and/or backwards to balance the belt to the center. I adjusted the belt while moving at 1 mph, which was easier to see the belt movement. Thank You!

  • I know this is an older article, but this worked. Multiple articles come up when searching for slipping, sliding or off center treadmill belt. This was the one. I had an issue where it would slip when I applied pressure on it, but this fixed the issue of the belt sliding to one side when running. Tightening the bolt on the side where the belt was slipping towards, resolved the issue. 10/10 Thanks!

  • No one seems to explain why a treadmill belt, when walking, sounds like it’s being dragged across sandy concrete, even when lubed.I’ve a new pre waxed deck. The belt I bought from you included got a liquid wax bottle included, w instructions to apply throughout the belt bottom before installing. Though I didn’t apply more than an ounce, I get this extremely irritating walking belt across sandy concrete sound!?! Any thoughts?

  • I got my underdesk treadmill a few months ago, after three weeks with Covid, I’ve spent the next month trying to get the belt aligned. If I get it straight off the machine, the second i get on it slides to the left. If I correct to the right, the belt rides under the right edge when off the machine. This was the first instruction in my manual, but it’s not helping me get it straight both off and on the machine. I hate DIY/troubleshooting things too. It’s something that should have been done by the company, and shouldn’t be so easily able to go off track. Very frustrating and not helping with my already sour outlook on exercise. Sigh.

  • Thank you for this. I tried to adjust the tension of my treadmill’s belt and the manual that came with the treadmill did not seem to make sense at all. It said to move one screw clockwise while moving the other counterclockwise. I watched your article and you confirmed my suspicion. Thank you for that!

  • Excellent article and excellent advice. I did some lubrication on my belt and cleaning for the first time since I have owned it. That has been about 10 years. After my lubrication, the belt was tracking to the right. Nothing I did was helping and only made the problem worse. After perusal this, I fixed the belt alignment in about 5 minutes. Super helpful article. This is the the kind of content that YouTube is perfect for. Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for putting together such a comprehensive and simple-to-follow instruction article. It truly is the best instructional article I’ve yet to watch. Your explanations and your voice are clear and concise. We followed your steps and the treadmill now runs very smoothly! I wish most “YouTubers” would follow your methods.

  • Please explain how to tell if it’s too tight (other than the finger test), please. My treadmill “bogs” when I walk on it. Like, the hum of the motor will be fine–until i step on it. Then there is an audible drop in the hum and with each step the hum drops as if I am too heavy for the belt. Is that too tight or too loose? Thank you for any help!

  • Thank you very much for uploading this article!!! I find your instructions very clear and concise; they work for me . . . Almost. Unfortunately, after each treadmill session, my treadmill is misaligned again. Could you tell me the possible reasons and the ways to correct these issues, please? Is it possible that the treadmill misaligns each time because the pressure I put on the treadmill while running and walking is too asymmetrical (my hip and knee joints need treatment)? Thank you very much in advance for taking your time to answer my question.

  • Appreciate this vid! Regarding deviation and the Tensioner screws…. Do the foot rail screws just “hang out” (on the end of the screw) through a loose/oval hole (just to keep them straight somewhat) or are they threaded at the end of the screw with a hole that fits the screw? I bought a cheap treadmill (GoPlus 3-in-1) and we’re having insane problems with it. The left foot rail has the “oval” hole (bigger than the screw itself), and the right foot rail is fully threaded. When I adjust the belt deviation, the right is damn near impossible to tighten (because it’s already WAY too tight) and the left can loosen or tighten easily. Something has to be wrong. Those little “weights” or whatever (that the screw goes through)…. are they supposed to be somewhat in the middle, or closer to the front of the treadmill? Because of how I cannot tighten the right screw any more, the belt keeps slipping… there’s no way these tensioner screws are THAT tight… or mismatched, as they are with this. Any help is appreciated, thank you so much! I’m so frustrated with this thing.

  • Thank you for sharing this wonderful article. I spent more than an hour trying to fix my treadmill belt which slipped to one side without success. After watch this article, I was able to adjust the belt in less than 5 minutes. Another added bonus after perusal this article, I now know how to lubricate the belt which I have not done since I bought the treadmill a couple years ago. Again, thank you very much for the wonderful instruction !!!

  • I am desperate for an answer! Your article is amazing and I am trying to perform exactly what you are showing in the article. Problem is, none of my allen key fits the screw to adjust the belt! I have a metric and an imperial kit of hex key and none of the keys fits in that screw. I have long lost the included key that came with the treadmill. I am trying to adjust to belt on the PRO-FORM CROSSWALK 397. If you have any ideas, I would greatly appreciate your insight! Thank you!

  • I may be over thinking this. Seems to me that adjusting the tightness of the belt while the machine is running has the potential of causing the belt to move off center again. The time it can take to move from one side to the other and then find the adjusting acres in the hole is typically long enough for the belt to move toward its new centered position. I’d recommend stopping the belt, adjust both sides and then start the belt again.

  • your instruction where very helpful. Now, I have another issue. My Weslo Model No. WLTL82540 S/N E33215675. I set the spee I use and when I use it sometimes I can hear the speed going a little slower and goes back to noraml for awhile and the belt tension is great no slipping at all. I am a License Master Electriaian. So, I feel could it be motor, the pc board. or the potentiomwrwe (the speed control). Any comants would be very appreciated. Thanks

  • My issue. Model: Schwinn 830 SoftTrak Powers On Console Works count down goes 321 then the belt starts moving for about 10 seconds then just stops moving. Console timer still on. What ive tried is when this happens just pull safety key put it back and continue treadmill and it just does it again shuts off after 10sec. Not 100% sure but could it be a relay issue ? Just b4 it stops i hear the click

  • No one seems to explain why a treadmill belt, when walking, sounds like it’s being dragged across sandy concrete, even when lubed.I’ve a new pre waxed deck. The belt I got had a liquid wax bottle included, w instructions to apply throughout the belt bottom before installing. • I found out that clockwise turning makes the roller move toward you and anticlockwise turning makes the roller move from you. And I found out that right side gap means left part of the belt has moved more from you than the right side. So I turned left side bolt clockwise and right side bolt anticlockwise.

  • Thanks for this article! I am having a nightmare tightening a belt. I don’t understand how if you use the 2 bolts to move it left or right that you can then use the same bolts to tighten it… doesnt it just shift the belt…? im trying to get the belt straight and then turn it off and turn both bolts to the right, however it is just slipping again after one use. Advice appreciated!

  • I have so many questions my treadmill needs to be recentered because it’s left like in this demonstration but he isn’t being specific enough for someone who knows Absolutely nothing. What size is a regular Alan key? That little contraption he’s using instead what does the head look like? The machine didn’t come with an Alan wrench because I bought it from someone not the store

  • I cannot thank you enough for the guidance that you have provided. Super … one more question though, I went to market yesterday to buy a new treadmill machine and there was a sound every time the belt rolls over the roller. the salesperson said it is normal and it’ll fade out once the machine will be used for a few weeks. Is it normal?
