How To Get Into Medical School Without Extracurricular Activities?

Med school admissions committees (Adcoms) are likely to reject applicants without any extracurricular activities, even with exceptional GPA or MCAT scores. Adcoms expect a minimum amount of hours spent volunteering, shadowing, or in research. It is possible to get into med school without research experience as long as there are reasons for not having research and you make up for it in your ECs/stats. Gap years are typically used to supplement or bolster your application, whether you need to complete outstanding prerequisite courses, boost a low or so-so GPA, or deepen your involvement in extracurricular activities.

Clinical and community service experiences are often expected of medical school applicants. The most important requirement for medical school is clinical and community service experiences. While good morals, ethical values, academic achievement, and genuine perseverance are qualifying attributes to get into medical school, you also need to invest time and effort into extracurricular activities.

There is no specific set of extracurricular activities required to get into medical school, but there are certain experiences that can help. Great grades will likely not make up for 0 extracurriculars. Medical school extracurriculars are not like Pokemon, so you don’t need to collect them all. The admissions committee is looking for a strong candidate.

If you are still in college, getting involved with your premed society is the best thing you can do for yourself. They have resources, mentors, study groups, and it is highly unlikely that you will be involved in an extracurricular activity that no med school applicant has pursued before.
