Discovering a hobby can be challenging, but it’s essential to assess your interests and passions. Reflect on past experiences and things that bring joy. If you lost interest in a hobby, challenge yourself to learn something new or break up larger projects into smaller ones.
Although not having hobbies as an adult may not necessarily be a bad thing, it can also mean that you don’t have friends. Hobbies help maintain relationships with others and keep life interesting. Making a list of people who have hobbies and asking them if they do too can help identify potential reasons for not having hobbies.
Some reasons for not having hobbies include a busy lifestyle, lack of exposure to various activities, or potential disinterest in exploring new things. Extrinsic hobbies may feel like a chore or obligation, while extrinsic hobbies may feel like a chore or obligation. Additionally, not having an interest in anything can be a symptom of depression, as it can lead to low moods, low self-esteem, and general feelings of uninterest.
In conclusion, there’s nothing wrong with having hobbies, and it’s common in therapy to address this issue. By taking the time to assess your interests and passions, joining clubs and organizations, leveraging social networks, being mindful of time and budget, and integrating hobbies into your life, you can find the perfect hobby that suits you.
📹 I Have No Hobbies!
A tale of the struggle of not knowing what to tell people your hobbies are when all you do is watch Netflix everyday. Twitter: …
Why have I lost my hobbies?
Losing interest in activities or people that once provided enjoyment can be caused by factors such as overworking, fatigue, relationship issues, boredom, or burnout. An ongoing loss of interest can indicate a mental health condition. Symptoms include losing motivation to engage in activities, feeling isolated, and a lack of interest in social activities. It is crucial to address these issues to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
What does lack of interest look like?
Losing interest in activities or people that once provided pleasure can be a sign of a mental health condition. Symptoms include losing motivation, feeling isolated, and difficulty concentrating. If these symptoms are due to a mental health condition, your doctor may recommend treatments. Self-care strategies can help motivate yourself and get back on track. Losing interest can be caused by various factors, such as a lack of interest in hobbies, social situations, or relationships.
It is essential to seek medical attention when experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. Treatments may include medication, self-care techniques, and self-care strategies. Resources and support are available on Australian websites to help individuals navigate this challenging period.
What counts as a real hobby?
Hobbies are regular activities done for enjoyment, typically during leisure time, and can include collecting themed items, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area. The list of hobbies changes with renewed interests and developing fashions, making it diverse and lengthy. Hobbies tend to follow trends in society, such as stamp collecting during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and video games as of 2023.
Hobbyists can be identified under three sub-categories: casual leisure, serious leisure, and project-based leisure. The term “hobby” originated in the 16th century as “small horse and pony”, and was later used to describe recreation and leisure. In the 18th century, with more industrial society and more leisure time, hobbies took on greater respectability.
A hobby is also called a pastime, derived from the use of hobbies to pass the time. It is usually practiced regularly with some worthwhile purpose, and is usually practiced primarily for interest and enjoyment, rather than financial reward. The term “hobby” has evolved over time, with the term now being associated with recreation and leisure.
How do you know if a hobby isn’t for you?
A hobby may not be for you anymore if it is extrinsic or intrinsic. It may feel like a chore or obligation, and you keep putting it off even when the opportunity arises. This can happen when you feel pressured to pick up a once-cherished hobby, but a sense of obligation kicks in, leading to a caveat or ignoring it. It may be better to admit that a hobby simply isn’t for you anymore. Here are three signs that can help you realize an activity wasn’t your thing anymore:
- Extrinsic: You’re not doing it for you anymore.
- Extrinsic: You’re not enjoying yourself anymore.
What if a person has no hobby?
Developing new interests is a personal journey, and it’s okay if you don’t have any hobbies or are passionate about one. It’s okay to try new things and see what resonates with you. However, don’t force yourself to fall in love with something immediately; it may take time to develop a liking for it. Some hobbies have a steeper learning curve, so don’t believe that if you’re not immediately talented, you can never improve.
Look for ways to test out more expensive hobbies without committing to something blindly. For example, rent a guitar for a month, borrow camping equipment from friends, or take free beginner dance lessons. If you find your first instinct is to dislike most things, give them one or two more chances. You won’t love everything, but you may find a pastime you enjoy once you push past your tendency to be negative about new activities.
Trying out different interests will provide new experiences to talk about, and you could even joke that your hobby is looking for a hobby.
Is it normal to get bored of a hobby?
It is a common human tendency to seek out novel experiences, as both the mind and body are driven by an inherent need for novelty.
Is it normal to not have any hobbies?
In today’s world, hobbies can seem like a distant fantasy, especially in the era of stress and burnout. However, psychologists Schwarz and other experts suggest that hobbies are activities that one enjoys in their spare time. Instead of feeling pressure to list hobbies, people should simply ask themselves, “What do I derive pleasure from or enjoy doing?” This approach may make it easier to answer questions about hobbies and their meaning to us today. By focusing on what we derive pleasure from or enjoy doing, we can better understand and appreciate our hobbies.
Does ADHD make it hard to have hobbies?
Individuals diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) frequently engage in a repetitive thought process, whereby they envisage themselves playing the guitar and subsequently seek out novel experiences.
What is life without a hobby?
Hobbies provide a sense of fulfillment and escapism, thereby helping to alleviate stress and reduce ruminations. Nevertheless, an unintended consequence of pursuing hobbies is that individuals may become more stressed as they direct their attention to pursuits that are less meaningful.
Why do I feel like I have no interests?
Disinterest can be due to feelings of uninspiration or loss of interest in old hobbies, but it can also indicate a mental health condition like depression. If this loss is making it difficult to cope or interferes with your life, it is crucial to seek help from a physician or mental health professional. Depression can worsen over time, so it is essential to seek help as soon as possible to regain your passion for the things that bring joy. Verywell Mind uses high-quality sources, including peer-reviewed studies, to support its articles, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and trustworthiness.
How to find interests again?
If you’ve lost interest in everything, it’s important to seek help from loved ones, establish a sleep routine, reduce social media use, engage in exercise, practice mindfulness and meditation, and consult a professional. If you feel like pleasures no longer hold interest, you might be experiencing anhedonia, a core symptom of depression. If you’ve lost interest in activities that used to bring you pleasure, you might be considering seeking professional help. It’s crucial to recognize that the lack of motivation may be a sign of depression, and it’s essential to seek professional help if you’re struggling with this loss of interest.
📹 How to Talk to People When You Have No Common Interests
Tips on avoiding those awkward silences. Excerpt from “5 Questions: Study Music, New Connections, and Winter Productivity”.
I relate to this- I feel I have no passion for anything, and haven’t really ever had the glory of being really good at something!! Does it make us different? Does it mean we simply haven’t discovered our hobby and we’re in a holding pattern until we do? I don’t know. I dread people asking me what I do outside of work… Existing keeps me busy I guess!
Honestly when I used to meet a lot of people at bars or wherever, I ended up just fudging and exaggerating. I put emphasis on hiking when I truly only hike a few times a year. Or I just say what I legitimately enjoy doing, but in reality don’t do a whole lot. However, nowadays, I’m honest because I know there are plenty of people who have this in common with me: I watch Netflix, surf the net, and eat. I try and make it sound more interesting by saying I research different topics, read articles, surf Reddit, learn things on YouTube. I also like to throw in that I enjoy exercising. Honestly, you don’t need to impress anyone. You probably seem more interesting to people not from your hobbies, but more your personality.
I’m so glad I found this article…. I don’t have any hobbies at all, and I like to watch shows and YouTube. I can’t tell anyone I’m a gamer because I’m not. It makes me feel insecure like everything has their lives on a track and I’m just going with the flow… The only hobbie I have is singing, but no ones heard me sing and I am way too introverted to try to show it.
I’m 25, and by now I seriously need a hobby, I work all day, then by the time I finish, I feel like I have no energy and just want to relax at home, but I’m starting to think I need a life outside of work, and perhaps mix with others in a different way to, how I interact with others in my everyday workplace.
This was the most comforting article to watch as I struggle with no hobbies problem for way too long now. The only nerdy hobby I love is reading psychology books, watch Gordon Ramsays shows as stress relief. I’m kinda at the point where I’m trying to start from scratch to find some inexpensive hobby. But on personal level I gotta say saying that you love perusal Netflix is nothing embarassing, I sometimes personally talk about movies I watched theres always those good scenes you can talk about or favourite characters.
That’s exacly how I felt as well in my early 20ies until I discovered my truest passion and opened my eyes to my strenghts to understand it all. Overall it was long journey. This article brings me back memories of desperation, fear and insecurities. Would like to know how you are doing now, if you have found hobbies. 🙂
I feel a little better about wasting my life away. Having no passions to really share is such a pain. I always say I just “chill and hang out with friends”. But that isn’t true at all… (but can’t be demonstrated :P) I see my friends like once, maybe twice, a month. But the issue I have recently been mentally struggling with (and thus ended up finding your entertaining article) is I really have no passion to share with a significant other… so I don’t even bother dating. I just work on my career and that is it. Which used to be enough of a distraction that I could convince my mental demons that it was my hobby… but I recently bought my first home and find myself needing a new goal. I guess I can start going to the gym or something and make that my “hobby”… maybe a home gym. I still don’t want people to ask what I do for “fun”. Anyway, thanks for the article and allowing me to vent in your comment section. I wish you well.
I make stained glass windows, yet I seem to do this very little. I have been slowly, very slowly, putting together a series of 15″ by 3′ windows over the last year and I just can not seem to get myself to finish. I also make them for my kids. When I make free time I build furniture with pipe, things I have made are: loft beds for my kids, pool stick rack, foot rest at a family members bar, shelves, shelves with lights inside them(hard to explain that one without a picture), exercise equipment, ect. Time it seems is all we have, 24 hours a day, that is 1440 seconds a day, 86,400 seconds every day. Looking ahead it seems I always have a ton of things to do or get done, yet looking at my past I seem to get very little done. A hobby is really just a discipline, I feel I have no discipline. Yet people who see me, or know me have said at times that I get so much done, or that I’m productive, yet it never seems that way to me….. Not sure why I’m writing this here, maybe, just maybe it will help someone else.
You seem to have more hobbies than me. And you don’t come off as heavily depressed. Plus, you’re a girl. So you’re still not doomed. But I am. I’ll probably have to go into early retirement soon, because I’m so destroyed and even unable to go outside. And I’m only 26 years old now. I really wish I’ll die soon. Nobody’s going to remember and miss me anyways.
Yeah I barely have hobbies, I wake up, go to school, maybe hang with a few friends.. but it’s so hard to have good conversations cause of this, I rely on any crazy stories I may have. If they ask me I just say I tutor middle school kids and do stage crew.. which aren’t ‘demonstrative’. I mean I’m only 16 so I have time to figure this out. I mean I think what’s the point really whatever I do isn’t going to have a lasting impact forever so I don’t really see the point of ‘hobbies’…. but I actually do tutor kids.. tutoring is my everything during the school year and in summer it’s being a camp counselor.. better than nothing.
Your vid has value even close to a decade later! I have a few things that I’d like to ask you about if you wouldn’t mind? First, would you mind if I (on a different website) included some quotes you said in a article a bud and I are planning out? When it comes to filming/editing I will definitely credit where it’s due, if you’re concerned with that. Second, since it has been 8 years, have you found any hobbies since this upload? Are they more of the same stuff, or have you adopted some new ones? If you did adopt new ones, I’m curious what got you into them. Thirdly, to answer your…decade old question lol. I’ve found myself enjoying the process of made up cartography, like dnd maps or stuff. I’ve always liked gaming and seeing different maps that other’s had made up, thinking I could do that was a revelation. Writing, planning out article ideas, baking too! The list sometimes goes on depending on the mood, it seems. But yeah, very valuable article! Nice!
i just play article games all day even tho i have a utube website with 43 suy bs as of now i’m a pretty basic guy i’m 31 years old i’m done school and i don’t think i’ll ever go to collage or university if i do go back to school it’ll be community collage i work y and weon monday now i get thusrdaysnd Wednesday i used to work 3 days on monday, thursday and on fridays now i get Thursdays off aswell as tusedays wich i did up untell 2019 but when the pendic hit north america and i stated goin to work less at one i didn’t work at all bc of the lockdown in my city i =sometimes buy a drick at McDonalds or i ‘ll buy a snack from a store but other when that i live a pretty mediocore life
I think it’s because growing up I didn’t see my family do anything with their lives either. I never saw my parents or my brother taking special time to enjoy themselves. So I learned that wasn’t a priority or that it didn’t matter. Mother cooked, cleaned & worked. Father worked & slept. Brother went to school, chased loose girls. That’s it. I never saw them having friends, planning things. Hate to blame everything on my upbringing, but that’s your first example.
Thank you for that article. I am realtively good looking can talk about almost anything do something for my fitness and have a good casual style and i am definitely not a creep but i really feel like a creep like hell. I really worked hard to become somebody who people want to talk to or even date. BUT!!… since i started working on myself everybody who gets to know me thinks that i must have a perfect life, mulitple exciting hobbies, something i burn for etc.etc.. There are pretty girls which are interested in me for the first time since at least 10 years. And i feel like a nobody because i do not have any hobbies nor im an activist which is saving the planet or something like this. 😉 It feels like cheating when talking to nice girls who are interested in me. I think ” Oh girl if you would date me you would be bored as hell. Don’t do it!!” All the development i did for the last 5 years is kind of worthless cause i just don’T want to bother a girl with my boring life. I mean i do have interests but they are not things you can do with friends. Besides philosophy… which is for most of the people just boring. Also the demonstrating hobby thing i can relate to. Because on toop of all that im an mild perfectionist. I really don’t want to demnstrate something when i i don’t have the feeling i am really good at it. I can really relate to you Andrea. 😉
OK…Sooo let’s get hobbies everyone. 30 day challenge haha. Also seriously, actually sit down with pen and paper and think about your hobby’s or what you’re in to. You might be surprised that you have more than you think you have. Sometimes you have to change your perspective about something…maybe you never thought about it as a hobby but it really is or you can word it differently or approach it differently so it really is a hobby. it can be unconventional, it doesn’t have to be the norm or “concrete” like pottery making or something. Lastly, things I took away from 2 other articles I watched is sometimes we have so many interests it’s hard to narrow down what we want our hobby to be. To answer this we have to look at our life and ask ourselves, “why are we doing this particular hobby?” It usually unknowingly serves us in some way. If you can’t answer why then you probably don’t need to spend your time on it…we only have so many hours in the day and you also will have no motivation to continue with it. This question should help you narrow it down very quickly.
2:25 When others ask me what my hobby or passion is, I tell them I make/produce music. When they say, show me something. I tell them to google my name Poogie Bear on their own time. If they are not genuinely interested they won’t take the time to look it up. If they don’t like it they usually don’t mention it again.
Hobbies are usually something you find in a hobby shop. I found radio control racing cars in my local hobby shop and quickly went to all the hobby shops in my area. Now I have three cars, a bunch of r/c car tools and parts. I’ve spent a lot of money on my hobby and I’m still not a professional and I haven’t entered any competitions. My hobby/obsession is more of an opportunity cost taking money and time I could be spending on my career as a graphic designer. Hobbies beat you down for money and if your not winning at it you feel worthless. Just adding my 2cents🗣👨🏾🦲
Thank God I’m not alone. I don’t have any hobbies. I have slight interest in things but I loose interest quickly, and on top of that I’m not good at anything. I’m not good at art. I don’t play any instruments, and learning something new is frustrating to me. Instead of relaxing me, it just makes me more tired and exhausted. I wish I could find something that I don’t loose interest and that I can legitimately be good at.
I have also struggled with this question. My hobbies are reading manga, perusal anime, doing muay thai and MMA, going to the gym and playing singleplayer article games. If ‘normal’ people ask me what my hobbies are, I will only say reading manga, doing martial arts and gym because I don’t want to come off as that stereotypical ‘cringey weeb’.
As someone who is perusal this article as a result as to finding a hobby, who ALSO HATES when people ask “what do you like to do for fun?” Aswell, I Immediately knew what a “demonstrative hobby” was. I can sing (no seriously I. CAN. SING.) but I’m shy, when I tell people I sing, ugghhh I just KNOW they’re gonna ask me to demonstrate. That made up term is so real.
I can relate to you so much! To make things worst, I have this super interesting husband who is into everything and is a big nerd, but at the same time is athletic and artistic. Everyone always finds him way more interesting and wants to be his friend and talk to him. Whereas I’m in the corner with little to no hobbies or things im actually good at and I don’t even watch a lot of shows or pop culture. I did get somewhat into knitting and crocheting, and I was so proud of myself for making one bag I almost cried 😆. But I wouldnt say I’m an expert or super passionate about it. My husband calls me granny millennial because I do it on occasion.
Ugh… after I became a house wife I started to realize that I have no hobbies. Before I could just say I was too busy to have one but now, how can I protect myself from people who wants to know what my hobbies are 😝 well I gave myself time, slowly started to listen to myself, and tried to wake my inner ME to tell me what she liked before adult life swallowed her… I started to decorate my house, bake, cook, took piano classes( wanted to do it all my life but was too afraid of failure), started to listen to audiobooks every time I drive somewhere, so I realized that I am not that boring, I just never listened to myself
Well idk if this is a weird hobby, but I am too afraid to tell anyone I am not close to. SO basically I don’t really like actually PLAYING with Barbies, I just like asking my sister to give me a barbie to cut and dye hair, to give a new wardrobe, and I also like collecting, and setting up the role-play for them… is that weird?
I totally relate to this…But I don’t get one thing i.e. i can sing but not enough to call myself a singer..same with dancing and reading..so does that mean I haven’t found my hobby yet or I’m not trying hard enough on other activities? I really want to do something to make a difference but I have no clue what!!
If you added in that you like to travel you would have killed me. I’m nothing special but I remember the days trying to get to know as many people as possible in high school. Now I only have guy friends because every chick I meet I feel like I’m talking to a brick wall that wants to talk about my day over a bland dinner.
I have had a lot of hobbies but they all resulted in a huge waste of money, time, resources. When I got divorced I threw out a huge amount of stuff related to those hobbies and did nothing for a couple years. Thanks to 2020 I’m still doing nothing and also not dating. But I’m working a lot so… Shit.
I would like shopping or just browsing the shops but normally its so crowded in town an i hate the crowds i never go to town anymore an i used to like perusal stuff but im getting bored of it not sure what else to do there is nothing i really want to do,,, things i think of doing as hobbies like drawin colouring ect i feel i would just be doing to feel i do something not because i would get into it an lose myself as i doubt i would,,,i think of drinking an smoking to ease my boredom like i used to do but im not in good health now so it would be stupid thing to do again
I also like to sing (even though I’m a begginer and not a good one) but I don’t mention it not just because I’m afraid of not being good, but also because I live in a non-english speaker country and I only sing in english (I have a better voice and vocal range). So if I sing, people won’t have a clue of what’s going on and are just gonna say “oh emmm cool”
I struggle with this a lot! I’m 21 and take a lot of vocal pride in my accomplishments, such as student clubs, leading my uni classes, and learning about things in my free-time. All of which I would consider hobbies but nothing worthwhile at all to talk about in a casual conversation. As an extrovert this definitely erks me because my impression on other people is generally firm and decisive, yet I tend to view anything ‘relaxing’ such as perusal movies or doing nothing with my partner for a whole day ᵃ ʷᵃˢᵗᵉ ᵒᶠ ᵗᶦᵐᵉ. It’s seeming like I’m showing early signs of being a workaholic, save me!!
I have more hobbies during the summer. I do a lot of camping/hiking because it’s a cheap weekend trip. Typically my only hobby I do non stop is cooking, I cook almost everything from scratch/learn recipes online. I even make my own cooking fat by rendering chicken fat. I’ll make my own milk from nuts, homemade broth, I’ll dry my own herbs etc. I also hate perusal movies and shows, I usually only like to watch things I can learn from like documentaries. Occasionally I shop at the thrift store and will repurpose furniture and what not. I would like to get into gardening but unfortunately having a back yard in Cali is a luxury. Next year I will be splurging on renting a house with a yard to be more involved in outside hobbies. I deleted all my social media accounts and I have even more time to do things, I have no friends either. All libs now, can’t stand em.
Hobby ideas: – sewing – playing an instrument – journaling/scrapbooking – reading – drawing/colouring/painting – organising/decluttering – cleaning – exercise – collecting – decorating – selling things (eg, clothes) – making articles/stop motions – editing – games (mobile or real life) – chores – gardening – cooking/baking – taking photos
Don’t understand this, how can people not have one constructive thing that they enjoy doing? My problem is the opposite, too many hobbies and not enough time. I sorta cycle through my hobbies with the seasons. In the spring it’s die hard fishing, summer it’s pretty much all about work (I do heating and cooling), fall it’s back to fishing, winter it’s time to work on the model railroad and paint warhammer models, everyday is a few hours of playing the drums (for past 24yrs) and playing warhammer. All after walking my kid to school and working full-time.
Not to sound sexist at all, but the articles on trending page on youtube at any time from any male youtubers are on topics about everything including (Reviews, Politics, Pranks, Movies and TV, Sports, Cars and Other Vehicles, Facts on Whatever, Advice and Tips, History, Gaming, Experiments, Food, Comedy, Music, Travel, Weaponry, etc) where as any Women youtubers articles (I mean only actual youtuber women who are famous on trending page and not including music celebrities) are always articles on shopping and tutorials, (Makeup, shoes, clothes, etc) or how they feel (Thier Appearance, Anxiety, other Mental or Physical Problems they have… and Cooking articles). Again not to be sexist but it is true go on trending page and look at every female youtubers articles on it, GARUNTEED I am right.
i was gonna say this seems like a problem glued 2 girls where they literally do nth bt facebook and or instagram and or snapchat all day long forever and never do anything constructive with their spare time. bt nope. admittedly, my girlfriend does this bt u have actual hobbies silly. or atleast constructive ones. perusal tv isn’t particularly constructive but u play articlegames and play instruments and shit. thts something. now all u gotta do is be less insecure about how ppl view u and ur hobbies. like srsly. and if its something that ur not confident in then git gud to the point where u are confident enough to share it.
I used to struggle with this a lot when I was a bit younger, but later as I grew older I realized that I simply don’t need to try or do anything, and since then I no longer worry about it. Now whenever I’m with relatives or any group of people where I find that we seem to have no common interests, I have no problem sitting silent through the event – much more pleasant and easier than awkwardly trying to mingle.
has anyone had those moments where someone is talking to you and no matter how hard you try to listen to their speech of passion. You find yourself not retaining what they said because you couldnt find a hooking point. also when i try to focus more on something im not intrested in im finding myself missing everything because im telling myself to listen.
The best advice I herd was to pretend that your a celebrity and when ever you go outside and people are walking around and you want to approach and start a conversation, then every one around you is outside to meet you cause your the very reason they have come out to walk around, like a abundance mindset
Most of all my cousins and uncles are big football fans/ soccer but i am never shure on what to talk about with them because i ha 0 intrest in that but i am the only metalhead in my entire family both on my mums and also my dads side, so i tend to just got to the default weather conversation, this article is very Insightful and interesting given me some things to think about
Hello, I tried to to summarize the article Here are the 4 points he talked about. 1 ) You wouldn’t know the things you have in common. ” ask more questions ” 2 ) Connect not based on similar interests but rather on the similar situation ” event, weather, travelling same place ” 3 ) Connect on shared values ” Business, life, mindset ” 4 ) Invest in them, be excited about the things the person in front you interested in.
this is irritating as hell. why try to make a person interested in THINGS PEOPLES PLACES or EVENT’S that NEVER LIKED, NEVER SHOWED INTERESTS, DID NOT ASK ABOUT AT ALL.. SHRUGGING Having NOTHING IN COMMON FEELS LIKE THIS. WHEN THE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO TRY TO MENTION THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN….., EVEN THOUGH KNOW, THERE ABSOLUTELY WAS NO SHOWED NONE, NO INTERESTS AT ALL….. THE LACK OF COMMON INTERESTS IS LIKE A UNBEARABLE TENSE SITUATIONS EVERY TIME THEY SPEAK. THE LACK OF COMMON INTERESTS IS PAINFULLY TENSE. ESPECIALLY WHEN TELL A PEOPLE REPEATEDLY NEVER WAS INTO THAT. THEN IT JUST BECOMES IS THIS PERSON TRYING TO BE FUNNY, RUDE WHAT…….THATS WHEN KNOW HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON AT ALL. ITS NO FUN AT ALL TO BE WITH SOMEONE THAT HAVE NO COMMON INTERESTS NONE. ITS A TORTURE…..
My ex told the judge that we have nothing in common. He thinks that is weird. Ummm, it’s very typical for men and women to have things not in common. We actually do have stuff in common, but he choose to look past them all. When he asked me to list things that we have in common, and I did, he would make excuses like, “22 million other people do that or feel that way.”
I have something to add: Try finding out why they are passionate or so interested by this topic, without trying to change them in any way. Just hearing why they might find something meaningful can make you resonate with them more. If you have something to add, first compliment them, regardless what their plan is, then ask a critical question, rather than expressing your opinion about it. A question should be as objective as you can make it. Practice facial expression if you have a hard time making and reading expressions that fit the situation.
I’m from the UK & Recently got Talking to this other Guy was into Wrestling (especially American Wrestling!) & talked non-stop about it for what seemed an Eternity!, He asked Me if I would Like to do Wrestling & when I replied “It hasn’t made My Bucket List Dude!”, He seemed genuinely shocked that I had no Ambition to be Body Slammed by some Big Sweaty Geezer with a Mullet!.
Since the time I was in high school, which literally a quarter century ago, I’ve had friends that don’t necessarily resonate with me. LOL! Years later, I remain to question WHY we’re still friends. We share very little in common. This especially applies to my friend, Breanna. I don’t necessarily want to burn bridges with her, especially since she latched onto me as a friend, 20 years ago. Breanna’s intentions are good. She buys me presents and I reciprocate for birthdays and holidays. However, it’s unnecessary because it feels like I’m obligated to do it. Now that she has my cell phone number, she randomly texts me about the dumbest things. Considering that we’re in our early 40’s, Breanna acts like the stereotypical Incel. There’s nothing wrong with her being a fan of Marvel Superhero characters. I love perusal Anime, Horror, especially since I’m a Horror author, listening to music, etc. At the same time, I know how to assimilate with OLDER and more mature adults. BTW: Breanna has a Masters in English and knows how to clean up in sells. Yesterday, I suggested that she try joining Writing groups and even watch parties near her neighborhood or something. It sounds like I’m being mean to Breanna, but we don’t live in the same state anymore and our hobbies, interests, views, and LIFESTYLES are polar opposites. Also, she needs to grow up and realize that I have a busy life playing caregiver to sick and disabled family members, including my own mother. Even though Breanna has a good-paying job, she’s careless and immature, especially when she wastes my time texting me about how she lost the mates to her gloves and that she’s eating ice cream.
I always thought that being intrested in a person is not genuine if you are not caring about their interest because that doesnt interest you. So i always thought i was a bad and egoistic person. But hearing what your take was on what it means to be intrested in a person with no common grounds and adding the fact that commication is a way to connect and connections are build on understanding. And understanding is mostly of all being able to relate in a way. I see now that i am intrested in a person when i try to connect tho we have no common grounds but i do connect with how they feel about a certain interest of theirs that i dont have to care about. And if i do than thats even better.
what about when having to talk to someone who is not intrested in anything and doesnt help the conversation at all as well but you haaaave to talk to them ??? all they do is agree with whatever you say but no input and always one word answers to my questions and no the do not dislike me somebody please help
I usually think people are just beneath me .. and I have skills set which takes years to master and I am pretty good at it since I am monetising from every avenue so I don’t give an effort of striking a conversation with anyone which I think is bad and I can feel it now but I can’t change .. I have 2-3 close friends .. and I am close to my parents .. that’s about it ..
