How To Create A Parenting Plan With A Google Calendar?

  1. Open Google Calendar. In the bottom right, click Create event. In the “Calendar” section, select the name of your family calendar, add a title and event details, and invite non-family members to join your event. Click Save.

  2. Create a custody calendar. This structured schedule outlines when each parent has physical custody of their child. This essential tool aids in mapping out shared responsibilities.

  3. Sign up for a free Google Account. Once you have your own account, you can create a family on Google. When you add family members, you can share digital content like movies and allow them to collaborate on lists and to-dos.

  4. Create a new joint Google account with your co-parent, enabling both of you to log in and share ownership.

  5. Use an existing Google account to host the shared calendar.

  6. Manage your Google Calendar in several ways. First, create a new joint Google account with your co-parent, enabling you both to log in and share ownership.

  7. If you have shared custody of your 10 year old daughter, create a calendar with shared access dates. Log into the child’s account or your spouse’s first. Then, browse to calendar.google.com and click the plus (+) sign next to “Other Calendars”.

  8. To add a new calendar, click the plus (+) sign next to “Other Calendars”. Next, select “Create New Calendar” and follow the prompts to name your calendar, set access dates, and save.

  • Thank you for this article and all your organizational tips! I want to share Google calendar with my husband but would love to have a notification when he adds something in. Do you know if there’s an option that allows it? Thank you in advance if you or anyone reading this know how to do that ! I will definitely check your ether articles !

  • Hi! just found your website and becoming a fan! From Norway here. I am going to start using google calendar for myself and my family after perusal your articles. I have a couple of questions I hope you could answer: 1) We are a family of 3, where my son is only 1,5 years old. Would you have a separate calendar for him already? Or just includes his activities etc in the “Common” calendar. 2) Is it possible to rearrange the order/sequence of the different google calendars? Or is it stuck by alphabetic?

• Hey Sarah, I really like the Google Calendar but I don’t have access to all the sharing options. All the sharing options are greyed out. Make changes to events and make changes and manage sharing options are not available for my wife. How do I give my wife full access so she can make any changes she wants. We both want to be able to make changes and edit our Google Calendar. Thanks for much 🙂

  • Hi Sarah, excellent website 👏 Congrats. You offer great tips for everyone. Hope you get caught by YT algorithm and blow up. It’s very useful. I’ve been perusal article after article non stop. Regarding your meal plan, amazing idea. You create it once and you are set. I’ve been dabbling with the idea of a week plan but the stress of having to do that every week was putting me off completely. Thought that a monthly plan would be crazy but you excel that even more. Great. Would you be open to share it? It would be a great start for my own plan and I can say I’m not the only one thinking about it as an argument in favour 😀. Thanks either way 😊

  • Hi Sarah. Thanks for great content. 1) How would you handle if both teenagers have a lot of events together (homeschooled stuff) and I would like them both to be aware? Do I need to individually create the events under each of their calendars? 2) How do I schedule an apt under my son’s calendar? Thanks a 1M.

  • For clarification, we have been using Google Calendar together as a family for years. It has always met our needs and it’s difficult to imagine going through a day, let alone a week, without it. In 2017, Google introduced Google Families: The ability to create a “family” within the Google ecosystem and share a calendar as such. While Google Family introduces a lot of benefits across the Google suite of solutions, like shared cloud storage and the ability to monitor your kids’ electronic activities, the “Google Family Calendar” is essentially just a calendar that is shared automatically with your family (assuming you’ve already “created” your Family within the environment). We enjoy the flexibility of deciding who, exactly, has access to each calendar we use on a regular basis (family or not) and haven’t seen a need to create a “Google Family” yet. To be honest, we didn’t even know the concept existed when we created the article. It was, of course, never our intention to deceive anyone when we created the article or settled on a title, but if you’ve come here looking for information on “Google Family Calendar”, specifically, I’m afraid this article is slightly off topic. That said, most of the advice for how to use the calendar itself is still applicable. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Hope you have a great day!

  • Went to 5:37 and there appears to be more to it than just typing in the other persons contact email!.. I have tried this numerous times and rebooted both devices (both are samsung galaxy phones). You make it seem like that’s all you do but please share the rest of the info! Thanks p.s. does it merge the calendars when and if i finally get it operating? I checked out another set of instructions and after you input the other contacts email it says to select send… NO SEND BUTTON! grrrrrr
