Dyslexia is a gift! The Roman alphabet forces us to unnaturally use the left brain. Learn Japanese (like I did), it uses the right brain! like most ancient writing systems (they are pictorial)! I was born in the West (big problem!), but married in Japan (it feels like advanced, intelligent home!). I grew up in a school system that failed normal kids so naturally the teachers dropped the ball on me significantly. Even still, I never once believed myself to be lacking in intelligence. I’m autistic and have dyslexia. I read number plates on cars, to train myself to read the letters properly. I can read a map from any angle and rotate it in my head and manage directions. Really spins a lot of people out. I have to slow down when reading out aloud to ensure I read correctly. I don’t see these as disadvantages in life, challenges maybe. But I’m good at what I do for work (software engineer and now devops), and I can see things others can’t. Both the big picture and the little details. I love my “special” abilities. 🙂

Though my mom thinks I don’t have it, she is a teacher, I’ve always had a hard time pertaining what I just read.
