In the 2023 Subaru Forester, the Child Safety Locks can be activated using a switch or button located on the interior of the rear doors. The owner’s manual provides specific instructions for activating these locks. It is important to turn the child safety locks to the “LOCK” position when children sit on the rear seat to prevent serious injury if a child accidentally opens the door and falls out.
The right rear passenger door may not open due to the child safety lock, and it is crucial to disengage the lock. The automatic door locking/unlocking feature allows you to set when your Subaru automatically locks or unlocks the doors through the combination. To disengage the lock, pull on the inside door latch handle while trying to move/disengage the child lock button.
The child safety lock switch is stuck in the “on” position, and the best bet is to take the door panel off and see if the child lock lever is in the lock position. Child locks are not meant to completely disable the manual lock switch, as that could pose a serious safety issue in an accident. Each rear door has a child safety lock, and when the child safety lock lever is in the lock position, the door cannot be opened from the inside.
In summary, the Child Safety Locks in the 2023 Subaru Forester can be activated using a switch or button located on the interior of the rear doors. It is essential to turn the child safety locks to the “LOCK” position when children sit on the rear seat to avoid serious injury.

I bought my forester one year ago and ever since the right back door won’t open from the inside. I tried the child lock button at the driverside that supposed to lock all doors and that one door still remained closed. I didn’t think each door separately has a child lock on it and you need to move it manually. It worked! ! Now we can get out of the car on all sides. The mechanic said, he needs to take the door apart in order to see what’s up and that can cost hundreds of dollars and I almost believed him. Thanks for the article.
