How A Child Grows And Develops Before Birth?

Dr. Anukriti Pant discusses the causes of developmental delays in children, including genetic factors like Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, and Angelman syndrome, as well as environmental factors like exposure to toxins before birth. Brain connections are built through a child’s everyday experiences, positive interactions with parents and caregivers, and using their senses.

The first stage of labor and birth occurs when ongoing contractions become stronger, and they happen more often as the baby grows. Early childhood development occurs from birth until about 5 years old, with babies and toddlers changing and learning incredibly fast during these early years. The three prenatal development stages involve processes that occur from conception to birth.

The germinal stage involves the growth of arm and leg buds, brain formation into five different areas, visible cranial nerves, eye and ear formation, well-developed hair, eyelids, eyelashes, and nails, audible heartbeat, denser teeth, and the formation of the nose, mouth, and ears. The embryonic stage begins with fertilization, followed by the formation of the placenta, which takes nutrients, oxygen, and other nutrients from the mother.

Fetal and early child development are often conceptualized as a “black box”, where children learn by soaking up information. However, the germinal stage is crucial for understanding the development of a baby’s body and mind. Parents can take care of themselves and bond with their baby before birth to ensure their baby’s health and development.

What developmental changes occur before birth?

Week 5 marks the beginning of the embryonic period, a crucial stage in a baby’s development. During this period, the embryo’s cells multiply and take on specific functions, leading to the formation of blood, kidney, and nerve cells. The baby’s external features, such as the brain, spinal cord, heart, and gastrointestinal tract, begin to form. This period is particularly vulnerable to birth defects due to factors like certain medicines, illegal drug use, heavy alcohol use, and infections like rubella.

Arm and leg buds grow, and the baby’s brain forms into five different areas. Eyes and ears form, and tissue grows for the spine and other bones. The baby’s heart continues to grow, and blood pumps through the main vessels. The baby’s arms and legs grow longer, and hands and feet form like little paddles.

How life develops before birth?

Human development before birth is a front-loaded process, characterized by rapid changes in shape and appearance during the first 8 weeks. This period is divided into two periods: the embryonic period, which begins with fertilization and ends after 8 weeks or 56 days. During this time, most body parts and systems first appear and begin to function, making human development a front-loaded process.

How to tell if baby will come early or late?

Preterm labor is a condition where the baby is born prematurely, with the mother having to give birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Symptoms include changes in vaginal discharge, pressure in the pelvis or lower belly, a constant low, dull backache, belly cramps with or without diarrhea, regular or frequent contractions that tighten the belly like a fist, and water breaking. These symptoms can indicate that the baby is not fully developed and is likely to be born prematurely. Health action sheets on preterm labor can be downloaded in English and Spanish.

What is a human baby develops before it is born?

The fetal stage, which begins from the 11th week until birth, is the stage where a baby is born. This stage involves the baby growing longer and gaining weight quicker, with the development of organs and body parts. Fingernails and toenails form, and the kidneys start working. By the end of the first trimester, the baby has tripled in length to about 3 inches. As the baby develops in the womb, the body undergoes significant changes.

If you think or know you’re pregnant, schedule an appointment with your doctor to confirm your pregnancy and discuss your baby’s development and prenatal care. It’s crucial to consult your doctor before taking any medications. Ask questions about your pregnancy, the first trimester, lifestyle changes, and any risks to the baby or yourself.

In which week is baby gender developed?

The internal sex organs, such as the testes in boys and the uterus and ovaries in girls, remain unchanged until 9 weeks of pregnancy. The external sex organs, such as the penis in boys and the clitoris and labia majora in girls, begin to differ from each other around 11 weeks. It takes several more weeks for ultrasounds to distinguish between boys and girls. External genitals form between the legs at 4 to 5 weeks of pregnancy. Internal sex organs form from a ridge of tissue on each side of the baby’s abdomen, which also gives rise to the kidneys.

Male sex organ development begins after 6 to 7 weeks, with the testes and penis forming at 10 weeks, the scrotum forming from bulges on either side of the developing penis, and the baby’s prostate appearing at 12 weeks.

How does life develop before birth?

The prenatal development of the fetus encompasses three principal stages: the germinal stage, during which cells undergo division and the blastocyst is formed; the embryonic stage, during which the neural tube and organs develop; and the fetal stage, during which organ growth and physical development prepare the fetus for birth.

What are the stages of growth before birth?

Growth can be defined as an increase in the size or number of cells of an organism. The process may cease at the point of maturity, as observed in humans and mammals, or it may continue throughout the lifespan, as evidenced in numerous plant species. In humans, specific bodily appendages, such as hair and nails, undergo continued growth throughout the lifespan.

Which pathway starts developing before the birth of a child?

The development of language and communication skills in infants occurs prior to birth. Upon completion of this section, the reader will have gained an understanding of the stages of prenatal development, as well as the physical, cognitive, and emotional development that occurs from infancy through to adulthood. From the moment of birth until the end of life, the human body continues to develop and grow. This underscores the vital importance of prenatal care and the ongoing maturation of the human organism.

What is the pre birth pathway?

The determination of whether to refer a case is based on an assessment of the available information, which may indicate concerns about the quality of care post-birth, “in utero,” or both.

Which pathways start developing before the birth of a child?

Brains are built over time, starting before birth and continuing into adulthood. Early experiences shape the quality of the brain’s architecture, establishing a sturdy or fragile foundation for learning, health, and behavior. In the first few years of life, over 1 million new neural connections are formed every second. After this period, connections are reduced through pruning to make brain circuits more efficient. Sensory pathways like vision and hearing develop first, followed by early language skills and higher cognitive functions.

The interactive influences of genes and experience shape the developing brain. The “serve and return” relationship between children and their parents and caregivers is a major ingredient in this developmental process. Young children naturally reach out for interaction through babbling, facial expressions, and gestures, while adults respond with the same kind of vocalizing and gesturing back at them.

The brain’s capacity for change decreases with age. Early in life, the brain is most flexible, or “plastic”, to accommodate a wide range of environments and interactions. As the maturing brain becomes more specialized to assume more complex functions, it is less capable of reorganizing and adapting to new or unexpected challenges.

Early plasticity makes it easier and more effective to influence a baby’s developing brain architecture than to rewire parts of its circuitry in the adult years.

Why are the first 5 years of a child’s life so important?

The initial five years of a child’s life represent a critical period for rapid brain development. During this time, the growing brain responds to its environment, and stimulating experiences can enhance this process and establish the foundations for future learning.

  • Wow, what a remarkable coincidence! As I sit here, absorbing the captivating journey of life from a tiny sperm to a grown kid in this documentary, little did I know that my own life is about to embark on an equally miraculous adventure. Today, my wife tested positive for pregnancy, and perusal this heartwarming portrayal of the beauty of creation takes me back to a time when I was just an innocent 8-year-old, full of wonder and amazement. It’s truly incredible how life comes full circle, and I can’t wait to embrace this new chapter with joy, excitement, and a heart filled with love for the tiny life growing inside my wife. Thank you for sharing this touching documentary that has made this day even more special and meaningful for me.

  • It’s been aprox 7 years since I first watched this documentary. My son is not 6 and a half years old. I remember crying seeing this and I also cried now. Happy tears that is. I had an incredible strong connection to my son even before I found out I was pregnant. This documentary hepled me realise how strong the connection was and still is. I love my son so much and he will always be my little baby… even though one day he will fly on his own, making his own journey through life. For all parents out there: love your children for they are the innocence and happiness of our lives. ❤

  • To all of the soon to be or new moms and dads who are perusal this, CONGRATULATIONS!! I have 2 kids who are grown. A son who just turned 29 on may 5 and a daughter who turns 24 in November and who is also getting married in September. If I have any advice to give to you it’s to not wish their little lives away. Meaning, be patient. All of those little things you can’t wait for them to do, they will do. Just be patient. Believe me, I know how exciting it is to know they’re gonna take their first steps at some point or how exciting it is to see them start their first day of pre-school. All I’m trying to say is to cherish every second of their little lives because it does go by so quick. One day you’re holding them for the first time and the next, you’re planning their wedding. It’s as if you blink and your newborn is an adult. Honestly, that’s what it feels like. Just enjoy every little second you get to have with them. This is such a special time of growing and bonding. It’s so beautiful. Again, I’d like to wish you all who are new parents and those whose bundles of joy will be here soon, congratulations…Enjoy every second.

  • I watched this when we were trying to conceive, without any success. After almost 2 years I finally got pregnant. I’m now 35 weeks and perusal this again gives me such deep rooted emotions about the whole experience. Being Pregnant, creating a life and becoming a mother, are such fragile and precious experiences, and well worth the fight. ❤️🙏🏼

  • This is absolutely beautiful! It made me cry. My husband and I just went through IVF and I’m 4 months pregnant. Our daughter is 14 years old and everything feels brand new because it was a long time ago since I gave birth. Being able to relive what I experienced with her during pregnancy was very nostalgic… and preparing my husband what he’s going to expect during child birth is relieving for me. Thank you for this all three of us absolutely enjoyed perusal this documentary 🤗🫠😘🥰😍

  • I’m due today with my first baby, just waiting to go into labor. perusal this article has me bawling my eyes out anticipating the moment I get to finally meet her and feel her tiny fingers wrap around mine. I feel so blessed by God for this miracle. Life is more beautiful than I could’ve ever imagined on the journey to becoming a mother. ❤️

  • I watched this documentary while I was pregnant. And i delivered on April 15 2018. She’s 6 months old now and decided to watch it again because it was such a beautiful journey and documentary. Sending many women blessings upon their journey and women who are trying to conceive or can’t, blessings as well. God bless you all.

  • When I first found out I was pregnant I watched this. Now I’ll be 37 weeks in two days. Full term. It’s still hard to believe sometimes. He can come at any moment. This article is astounding. I’ve wanted to be a mom for a long time and didn’t think that I could get pregnant but it wasn’t me it was the man. I have a big boy I plan to go natural with. Pray for me/wish me luck.

  • My wife is 29 weeks pregnant. We struggled a lot for this pregnancy to happen. She wouldn’t be able to conceive after years of being in birth control. We try for almost 2 years and nothing. Then, in the Méxican culture we believe in this thing called “matriz caida” (shifted womb or misplaced). It’s a belief that when a woman isn’t being able to get pregnant is due to this. Believe me or not, we went to this older lady (sobadora) who knows how to place the womb back right in its place by massaging and days later my wife got pregnant. There’s a lot testimonials to this. It’s proven by many Mexican women. My first baby coming in June 8, 2019. God bless you all.

  • November 19th, 2023, our baby girl (Khlóé) is now 33 weeks and 3 days. 6 weeks and 4days away or less to delivery…❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I’ve always wanted a girl and God blessed me with exactly that…I couldn’t believe it when my wife told me it was a girl so I took her for another scan…😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Papa loves you Khlóé ❤❤❤❤❤ The best gift you could ever give to your children is to love their mother. I love you Precious 💞💞💞 I know you are gonna be a great Mom as you are a wife. God’s blessings to y’all mothers and soon to be moms perusal this.

  • Watching this made me so emotional. I’m currently pregnant with my first child, a baby girl due in March. 💖 I’m admittedly scared as hell about being a first time mom, but also incredibly excited, grateful, and blessed. I can’t wait for the day that I will be able to hold my daughter for the first time. 🩷

  • Oh how I love the people in this kind of article’s comment section. Almost all of you so are kind wishing soon-to-be-mommies well, comforting those who had problem, and congratulating those that just gave birth. Keep giving love, everyone!! GOD bless us all. Pray for other people, and for our babies! 🙂

  • What a beautifully made film. I am familiar with the 4D imaging, but was the footage of the baby in the womb actual? If so, bravo… what an amazing job.. Your production team and the woman who participated and allowed her birth to be filmed were all amazing. Roger McGough did a splendid job as poet and voice of the fetus and baby.

  • I might sound so selfish, but I don’t like to be pregnant. My emotions are out of control and I cannot eat certain foods because I get nauseated. On the 3rd trimester and until labor is hard to sleep. I was never comfortable and not to mention that we wake up every 30 mins to pee, but once the baby comes out to the world, its then when u realize that all those sleepless nights was all worth it.❤

  • My babies are in their 40’s! The amazing technology today lets parents know they are pregnant by a few days after conception. In the 70’s it was a urine test looking for chorionic gonadotropin. Some women secreted a lot into their urine, others very little, like me! I kept “flunking” my pregnancy test…..never DID have a positive test! He started kicking, so we quit taking tests. I felt like I was robbed of 3 mos. of joy. Ultra sound didn’t exist! You parents today are SO lucky. I think I became a Doula to help moms & dads enjoy every minute of their pregnancies& births.

  • I was around 8 to 10 when I told my mom I could remember my birth as crazy as this sounds, I remember just struggling and struggling to breath and seeing nothing but a red Hugh, she then told me my umbilical cord was wrapped 2 times around my neck. My jaw just dropped. I also remember being handed to my grandma first, and sitting in the room with all the other babies. My next memory was my first birthday sitting at table with cousins. Most people don’t believe me. I would literally take a polygraph test to prove my point.

  • My daughter is currently pregnant and she is seeing pink discharge. What does it mean? Can god bless her please for she is scared and don’t know what it means. The baby father is currently not involved at the moment. His calling her beast and beening horrible towards her. Lord please help my daughter. Please someone pray for her

  • I’m currently 18 weeks and due with my first March 2024. I conceived using fertility treatments. I never ovulated in my whole life until I did my first round of Femara. And it worked!! • I had three births. The very first, my daughter, was long and arduous and she weighed over eight pounds. During my pregnancies I started out at about 103 lbs. I was not a very large person at all. My second pregnancy was actually so fast I barely remember it. It was his due date, I had been having Braxton Hicks for several days, close together, not a twinge in sight. In the middle of the night I woke up to pee and I had one very hard contraction way down below. I woke hubby up, woke up the neighbor to stop off my not quite two year old and went to the hospital. I felt fine but something told me to go. I got to the hospital and they said nothing untoward. I came in way too early. And suddenly, I had to push. I wasn’t pushing, my body was pushing and he was born within minutes which was less than 15 minutes and out came a 7.5 pounder. The third pregnancy they decided to induce two weeks early because of the very rapid second delivery. (That runs in my family. Ouch, ooops, there’s the baby.) I got to the hospital and they induced me. Nothing happened for about 4 hours and they decided he is way too early. They were about to send me home and suddenly, my body pushed and out came a nearly 11 pound boy. Again, it happened to fast, I barely remember the actual birth. I was also fortunate to never have morning sickness or any other maladies. I felt fabulous through all of the pregnancies. I was truly blessed through the pregnancies. And they were very easy babies and toddlers in that they were great sleepers, never met a food they didn’t like, etc.

  • I miss chilling with my homies in the testicals. I remember when the homie house started shaking and we got forced out and I knew I had to get to that egg. It was hard leaving Ronald behind. Oh and Lacy, she was my bitch. But soon we meet the other house and I wasn’t actually sure completely on what to do. But I saw everyone rushing towards the exit hole, I knew I had to win. I gave up on everything. I didn’t give up. I was about half way to the egg. About #106,342 in the race. But I didn’t give up. I had to win. I looked behind me, I saw something that made me want to give up. Lacy had gotten stuck and Ronald was struggling back in #974,972. But I kept going. I knew I would lose my chance to win if I went back. So I used all my adrenaline to push forward. #56,432. #45,512. Getting closer to number one. 24,119. About 3 days later I was at number 342. I was close. My last bits of energy were coming up. The egg! I was with 13 other people at the egg. 7 struggling to get through. I got in the egg. But 2 other people were in. Last bit of energy. I broke to the center and I was in the egg. The egg started to go where it needed to go. Then, I fell asleep. I felt dead. I’ve been asleep for so long! But then, my heart started beating. I was growing. I stayed growing for 9 months then, I felt uncomfortable. 2 hours later, I heard nightmarish sounds, frightening yells of a man, painful screaming of a woman, and orders from and unknown man or two. 2 hours later, there was light. I was being pulled by something.

  • Psalm 139:13-16 New Living Translation (NLT) 13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

  • Sometimes it’s so easy to forget, that “this” is how we all started life. It’s so easy to forget and to take so for granted, the pure gift and preciousness of life. We should all strive to treat each other with more openness, patience, understanding, respect, compassion and love, for we’re all human and we’re all sharing in this limited, worldly journey together. Be good to yourself and be good to others. Peace
