The image shared on Facebook claims that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wrote in her 1996 book, “I believe the primary role of the state is to teach, train, and raise children. Parents have a secondary role”. This statement caused controversy among some critics who saw her as arguing that society, not parents, were responsible for raising children. The meme seems to stem from that belief. It Takes A Village has been criticized for suggesting society was responsible for parenting children, and Clinton does argue that society at large — government — should be responsible for raising them. NPR’s politics team has annotated Clinton’s speech, providing analysis and context and fact-checking key portions.
Hillary Clinton was a high-school Young Republican and “Goldwater Girl” in 1964 but swung to supporting Democrat Eugene Doherty. She contrasted the two principal legal standards used to determine when the state should intervene in situations of child abuse and neglect: 1) “the best interest of the child” and 2) “the best interest of society at large”.
Clark served as the First Lady of the United States to the 42nd President, Bill Clinton, and later became a U.S. Secretary of State. She has been focused on the issue of early-childhood education since she was in law school, 40 years ago.

In a new A&E docuseries, “The Clinton Affair,” the parents of former White House intern Monica Lewinsky detailed from their …
The truth does prevail. There is always two sides to a story. She was treated disgracefully, and was great to hear CNN reporter’s, admit their part in the media frenzy, that judged and harrased her. Now she is 42, still looking beautiful, and he looks like an old man. Continual healing, health and happiness MONICA LEWINSKY. perusal from Sydney Australia.
Watching American Crime Story right now. I’ve been seeing this Clinton Lewinsky issue in the history. 1997 I was 4 yrs old. I hate Monica at first, I didn’t know her story. But now I’ve done some research I kinda like her. She is more beautiful now. Glowing. She’s the clear example of whatever challenges you’re facing, no matter how big it is you will definitely move past it
I love Monica’s parents for putting aside their acrimonious divorce to help their daughter, so happy to see Marcia aged beautifully (I feel bad that hubby Peter Straus had died, “Monica’s Story” said he was gonna ride or die for Marcia) and Bill be looking older than Bernard (who is three years older, *sips tea*), and Bernard was still working as a doctor during 2020 (and I wanna hear about Barbara Lewinsky, she sounds awesome from what I read). It’s no wonder Monica is so vivacious, witty, awesome, and beautiful; I thank her parents. Don’t it bother Bill and Ken and Linda that Monica looks younger and prettier than they did at those ages?
So at the time President Clinton was almost 50 years old, and she was 22. Sorry, but any person in a position of power like that should understand that they would be taking advantage of the younger individual. It’s inappropriate to the extreme. He could literally have been her father in terms of age difference. I feel nothing but compassion for Monica Lewinsky and I hope that she achieves a great deal of success moving forward.
One thing people are forgetting yes she was young and made some wrong decisions but she also went there with the idea she’s find someone of power to get close to. I remember George Stepanopolis once saying in an interview that he told the people around him to keep her away from him and she flirted with Clinton and he took advantage of her advances which he shouldn’t have done. He saw his relationship as nothing more than a fling and she felt betrayed that he didn’t take it more seriously in how he addressed it in his book. In one sense I feel sorry for her and in another sense I don’t because she went there looking for it and it didn’t get her what she really wanted but what she did get was betrayal by someone she considered to be a friend who was only looking to bring down the Clinton presidency and used Monica to accomplish that. She’s not a victim even though she wants to betray herself as one. The real issue here is that it ruined her life because society shunned her when it all came out and she didn’t get the career she expected to have.
She was very young and stupid to get herself in a like that! After perusal the interview last night it was clear she wanted him more than he wanted her. It always will haunt her, but she was 22 and quite frankly it was a lot of money involved so she benefited from it more than she had to lose – which was her dignity!
I blame Clinton more than her, however, getting involved with a married man is never good! Being in ‘love’ doesn’t justify it nor does threatening the President in order to keep the relationship intact. Bill Clinton was obviously feeling disconnected with Hillary otherwise he wouldn’t have been looking for a relationship outside the marriage. However, that is no excuse for the affair either. Lying about the affair didn’t justify the relationship nor attacking her character. Sadly these two are going to be living with a decision they both made that wasn’t good!
1.Clearly we still do not understand how workplace harassment works and what “taking advantage of your position and power” means. 2. People who call Monica a “home wrecker”, FYI, people IN the marriage wreck their own marriages, not third parties. How do we know Bill and Hilary’s marriage was not already over before Monica even came into the picture? How do we know Bill did not make it seem like his marriage was an open marriage to Monica? Its sad that the world convinced her to apologise to Hilary…Monica did not need to apologise to ANYONE. 3. Monica Lewinsky was made to sign contracts to not share her side of the story for a decade which was basically Clinton’s abuse of power, denied jobs in her field everywhere in USA…shamed for her entire life, bullied, harassed, trashed, eventually she moved to London and studied social psychology at LSE to understand what happened to her..she tried to share her story now to help others who have been victim of shaming and bullying survive the pain.
My heart goes out to her yes, but I’m thinking she should never have been an intern in the first place. She got where she was by family connections, not merit. He was basically unscathed because of his privilege, but she became an intern for the same reasons. If she had achieved it by a true career aspiration she may not have participated in a dalliance that could be life-ruining for her.
Could L. Tripp do what she did, if Monika didn´t do what she had done? What started it? Monika knew very well that Clinton had many affairs, RIGHT? So who is the most responsible person in this whole mess? HER. If she wasn´t playing the victim and capitalizing on it all for over 20 years and admitted her complicity in it, it would not be so bad.
I didn’t feel bad for her until now. Terrible.. what they experience, many affairs remain private the government drag even her parents really sad and a very scary situation for any one. At that age we do stupid things… I was at that age sexually harassed by my box and clients.. and didn’t say much to anyone .. I was afraid… I can imagine how terrified to be confronted by the FBI and kept in a room for hours.
She knew he was a married man and she was of age and it was consensual. I don’t understand all the drama. People cheat on their wives everyday. Her only mistake was that she was young and emotionally involved and did not accept when it was over.If she had been older she would have known you do not threaten powerful people. She could have gotten such a golden parachute from this if she had played it right.
Wishing Monica much happiness and that she lives a full and happy life. One relationship does not define you unless you keep bringing it up and WANT to remember it.I still don’t think we know all there is to know about this ‘relationship’ but it wouldn’t change how I feel. I voted for Clinton, I’m still a fan of his but the relationship with an intern was just plain wrong.
1st Rule a Moral Person ” Do not kiss and tell”, be responsible for one’s action. “Washing dirty linen in public” is reprehensible. A President is primarily a “Moral” Leader. And we all need to be aware of our ‘errors’ no matter how ‘right’ they seem. As the ability to process all the faculties of forgiveness is our Islam ( to surrender our mind body and soul to the One ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGN GOD, the God of Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and the Last Prophet Mohammed peace be upon them all. Increase the peace from U.K. Thank you.
Monica is a truly talented and resourceful person for her being able to take the embarrassment of her life and using it to help young people today by speaking to them. She is doing good things for society instead of trying to bring everything down like others. Helping others is truly a selfless thing. I commend you Monica; you are an inspiration and an admirable person.
