Bisto gravy offers 18 different varieties, with ten being suitable for vegans. The original Bisto in the red container is vegan-friendly, along with onion and vegetable gravy varieties. Other Bisto products do not contain any animal-derived ingredients, making them classified as vegetarian. However, senior food editors Chris Morocco and Rick Martinez admit that vegetarian gravy is possible if one is willing to put in the same effort. Bisto Gravy Granules and the Original Gravy Powder may be considered vegan, but it is important to check the label before purchasing.
Vegetable gravy can be a confusing concept, as most traditional gravy recipes are made from pan drippings when cooking meat. However, there are six vegan-friendly gravies from supermarkets, including Tesco’s. The most popular Bisto products, such as Bisto Gravy Granules and the Original Gravy Powder, do not contain any animal products and are also labeled as vegetarian.
From personal research, it seems that the Bisto Gravy Granules (red tube) are vegan-friendly but only labeled as vegetarian-friendly. Most gravy is not vegetarian, but it is entirely possible to make vegetarian gravy. Bisto Gravy Granules are suitable for vegetarians, and they understand the power of cooking and good food to bring people together.
For those looking for fully plant-based gravy, there are many options available in major supermarkets. The Simply Organic® Vegetarian Brown Gravy Seasoning Mix is a great option, featuring rich, flavorful seasonings.

Really cool recipe, thanks for that, but a couple of hints when it comes to gluten-free ingredients: Vegemite and Marmite are not GF, but there are GF yeast extracts out there (pretty rare, though), since yeast is often grown on grains – alternatively molasses. Same applies for the nutritional yeast, it’s not always GF, look for molasses-based yeast products. Oats: some people with celiac’s cannot eat oats (similarity in proteins to gluten proteins results in problems), but most can definitely get and eat certified GF oats or alternative GF grain flakes. Standard oats are not GF due to contamination in production facilities.
I like the Idea except the Aqua Fava, a liquid that is highly indigestible & Poisonous for people like myself. I expect I will use Eggs to replace that Aqua Fava. I am not vegan & not entirely vegetarian but I do eat vegan & vegetarian when meat wont be tolerated by my Stomach which is often. Vegan diets are lacking in severity in necessary vitamins which cannot be gotten through supplementation of manufactured Vitamins. SO EGGS it is. I LOVE Mushrooms but not after they are made wet. SOOOOOO lol I will sauté them in some good oil like avocado or Olive oil/ Instead of beets which I cannot tolerate, I will use something like a shredded Kohlrabi or Zucchini. I like this recipe so I think I will make this as an experiment & see how it is for taste & consistency, but mostly I want to see how well it freezes cause I love meatloaf for sandwhichs, but I think this would be ideal to replace meatloaf on those days I want something before bed which is a bad thing to do but I have my cravings lol If this works out I will have an alternative to meat before going to sleep which is often interrupted due to a condition called Cytokine Release Syndrome which in basic terms is a systemic Chronic Inflammatory disease so ingredients are crucial to maintaining inflammation free & that’s why I wont use beets as they cause me excruciating pain through out my body. Thank you for the article I will be giving this a try.
