The Post-9/11 GI Bill offers 36 months of benefits that cover college tuition up to the maximum in-state tuition rate. This program is particularly beneficial for service members and veterans who served on active duty after September 10, 2001. Selected Reserve, National Guard, Active Duty members, and their families may qualify for military benefits to cover tuition and other expenses.
The GI Bill covers education benefits for trade school and other non-degree programs if eligible. Veterans can use their GI Bill benefits to pay trade schools like I-TAP, and the benefits are not limited to junior colleges and universities that grant two- or four-year degrees. Vocational training and other educational assistance can be used through the GI Bill.
Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits can be transferred to spouses or dependent children after meeting certain eligibility requirements. However, a service member or veteran’s educational benefits through the Post-9/11 GI Bill cannot be transferred to a dependent child. If your service ended, the father cannot transfer college.
As a family member of a veteran, you may be eligible for VA education benefits, including money for school or to help cover expenses. The GI Bill covers full tuition, school fees, housing, books, and supplies, and can also be transferred to family members.

Outside of utilizing your VA loan – I believe your post 9/11 GI Bill is the biggest perk of serving in the US Military. Today I break …
VR&E can go as long as a Ph.D as long as you have a clear justifiable educational plan. Your VR&E counselor should help you with that, but they are not all the same. Some will try to hinder you or don’t know their jobs (they really don’t). Get a good VR&E counselor. If you the one you got is not being helpful, ask for another one. In my experience, what was taking months for my VRC to process, only took a few hours for another counselor to do. Just make sure you do your part and complete your paperwork correctly and in time.
Used my GI bill on my last enlistment (‘16-‘19) to fill the gaps from TA. I knew as a deck seaman turned Construction Mech., getting out and supporting a family without a bachelors was not an option. First job out, with my new degree and some certs, landed me an IT DoD contractor joke for 20k more than my E-5 with bennys paycheck.
Thank you so much for this information. What I would like to know is where you got your information from as far as the numbers such as the actual cap out amount that the GI bill will pay and the actual amount for Books and stipends. Like where did you pull the numbers from? . I wanted to go dig in do some extensive read watch myself. Thanks I’m advance!
Will T32 502 (F) (B) orders count toward the post 911 GI Bill? I cant seem to get a straight answer from researching the VA’s website. While it does site 502 F orders for response to national emergency, im still concerned. I recently applied for my COE and selected this now im afraid im going to lose my 1606. If im not approved.
Hello, I enlisted in Dallas, TX and now stationed in Barksdale AFB, LA and I want to go to UT Austin and I was scared to use my benefits after leaving the military for the mere reason of leaving the military not being able to finish college or afford it and pay for it and well job security as well, in my AF Career, I have the Montgomery bill but the Post 9-11 sounds like it pays more, not sure if the Montgomery CAPS out the same as the 9-11 bill, but what I am in doubt now is the hazelwood act, you said they cant combine the benefits, so if I use my 9-11 bill which im going to switch over to, and be in the yellow ribbon program to reduce costs, I get my bachelors(presuming I use TA to finish associates while still in the military and all credits are accepted to grad school), try to continue to my masters I would still have couple of benefits/semesters left almost 2 years or exactly 2, will I still be able to use the 150hrs from the Hazelwood after all of my VA benefits have been used just as a Texas enlisted veteran? maybe towards a phd or another bachelors
Hello! So my current situation is I am currently serving in the Marine Corps but I want to get the jump on starting to use my post 9/11 bill but I don’t exactly know how to use it without wasting opportunities. I actually want to study abroad in Japan but I can’t seem to find the right resources telling me how. My contract doesn’t end for a while but I just want a plan for not only transitioning out of the Marine Corps but to have a plan for being able to go back to college abroad.
It’s pretty good, but I like the Illinois.Veterans grant because it covers a hundred percent tuition plus you can live off your g I bill BAH. I also. Recommend that when you’re getting out to talk Is with the schools va rep to get an ace Transcript, that way, it will take whatever military education. You have and transfer to severe education for credits. I personally found it best to go to school back to back Each semester not stop because at the time I was single and I didn’t have any kids. That way You not only Graduate bastard but you have the best use of benfits.
