Are Volleyball Outfits For Men And Women The Same?

Beach volleyball uniforms differ significantly from men’s and women’s uniforms in other sports. Both genders wear a regular t-shirt for practice, with some teams even wearing t-shirts for less formal league matches. The fit of the t-shirt is crucial when choosing a t-shirt for practice.

In most cases, uniforms between genders are similar, with women wearing the same or slightly less clothing than men. In track, men’s and women’s volleyball balls are the same size, but there are some differences due to tradition and societal norms. In basketball, men’s and women’s basketball players have similar uniforms, as do athletes in softball/baseball, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, etc. In tennis, women have to wear a looser fit than men’s uniforms.

Pro beach volleyball rules only require a top showing a player’s name and number, so men wear shirts in the same way. The discrepancies between men’s and women’s uniforms are noticeable, as women usually compete in bikinis. It is not as fun for straight women or gay men to be covered up in baggy tank tops and knee-length shorts.

The difference between men and women’s uniforms is vastly different in the world of sports, especially when considering the discrepancies between what women and men are. Female beach volleyball players have swapped their tiny bikini-like uniforms for more modest attire at the Paris Olympics, but not everyone’s uniform is the same.

  • The issue is not the bikini per se but the double standard. Women are supposed to show off the T&A but the men have to cover up. Having choices should be allowed as long as the competitors do not wear something that gives them an unfair advantage. If the women in sand sports want to wear shorts instead of bikinis, they should be allowed to do so. If the men want to wear speedos, they should be allowed to.

  • I play a lot of beach volleyball. Pretty high level amateur ball. Without exaggeration, all of the women that play amateur ball CHOOSE (out of every other option) to wear the tiniest bikinis they can fit in, or feel comfortable in. Even though they can choose basketball shorts and a shirt if they so desire. It’s no different than any other area of life – women want to perform well, but (ordinarily) wouldn’t dare sacrifice the opportunity to be as attractive and appealing as possible while doing it. There’s no mystery here…

  • An appropriate wear for beach volleyball, beach handball and (beach flags, not an Olympic sport). Would be the sports tank top bikini for woman and swimming trucks for men and topless. which is what you may wear on the beach weather conditions permitting or if you are playing on nudist beach completely naked for sports and people.

  • It is a huge dichotomy. On one hand I am a red blooded male who loves a well shaped woman’s bottom, but on the other it is a huge distraction from the game as all I can look at are the bottoms. Same for all women athletes. The real question is why are they SO high cut? They could have good bottom coverage and still be just as comfortable.

  • You should wear what you want. It looks like a thong. Not a bikini bottom. My apologies: but it looks like this is aimed at men. Men getting to look at half naked women falling around in the sand. Huh: not necessary. Can what’s comfortable also take into consideration what looks appropriate? Just asking.

  • Female sports are still not taken very seriously. So they normally don’t receive the fund because of low viewership. In order to increase the viewership, female players are required to wear shorts and tight clothes. Most men then watch the sports just for their kink which brings in money for the sport feds and funds for the players.

  • They do it so men will watch this strange sport of sand-jumping. It seems to involve a barrier net for some reason, & they have to keep a ball in the air to enable them to do better jumps, splits, bendovers, etc. Apparently they’re given points for some aspect of the ball & net barrier. Either way, it’s my favorite “sport” along with women’s gymnastics, which are kind of similar except instead of the ball thing & net barrier, they’ve got wooden rods to swing on & a narrow plank they have to do flips, splits, etc. on, & a big open mat area to display their flipping, spinning, & a few useless “dance” moves to kill time. They also have to run down a line, bounce up & over a big pad-thing while doing spins & flips, then landing without falling. These 2 “sports” are what makes Olympics worth perusal! 😃👆🏽

  • Odd it seems those seeking to empower want to tell others what to do. And the fall back is the V-ball players are under the thumb of the “patriarchy.” This is essentially saying that the V-ball players are un-self aware and even insulting to the ballers’ intelligence. The beach handball rules are not right. If the Norwegians want to wear shorts, let them. If a team wants to wear full body covering and suffer a disadvantage, let them.

  • This whole issue, if you can call if that, is about people who are completely clueless making ignorant assumptions based on how they want to perceive the world. The athletes are not complaining at all. And for what it’s worth, beach handball is not an Olympic sport, and no one has ever heard of it. And for the idiot asking about men wearing Speedos while playing beach volleyball, there is a big difference between the male and female anatomy down there and between sand and water. If you are a male wearing a Speedo, and you dive on sand, your junk will be hanging out there for everyone to see. That doesn’t happen with women, because they do not have armadillos in their trousers like men do.

  • Here’s the deal. The best outfit to compete in is exactly what the Greeks used in the original Olympics. Nothing. In the nude. Bare f’in nekkid. But, it’s not 500bc and we have TV and standards committees and stuff. That’s fine. Can’t go bare nekkid. Short of that, do what you want. Note they’re saying here the girls could wear more if they wanted. That’s fine too.. wear more, less, either way it’s fine.

  • I would agree that the bikini is probably best from a functional standpoint, as wearing a tank top means the tank top is loose so that the player likely won’t sweat as much as if it was a body suit. If people don’t like the bikini outfit for females, then the only other option is a body suit-style uniform which may prove to be problematic from a sweat standpoint as it may encourage more sweating and since females need the support (you know what I mean )this makes the most logical sense for them to wear this, which can keep them cool while playing.

  • What’s good for the men is good for the gals. I just have to say, as a child, forced to wear a bekini at the age of 3 and four 🐾👣😭💔 I had Sand in my bekini and always came out of the ocean beach with out my bekini due to the motion of the ocean waves. 😭💔👣🐾Or if I managed to make it out of the water with the bekini a 🐕 dog always managed to find me and rip them Off 🐾🐕🐾💔😭👣🐾. I’m against the bekini World.👎👀

  • I’m a long distance runner, I ran track and cross country in college. I wear short shorts when I run (unless it’s winter) because they do the best job at keeping me cool and lightweight, while allowing quite a bit more range of motion while running/racing over longer shorts. They look ridiculous yes, and I’ve gotten plenty of weird looks, but when you’re a competitor it’s function over form.

  • Many volleyball players may well choose to play in bikinis in the way that many or most female runners wear small tight fitting shorts and tops. That does not mean it should be COMPULSORY. Let each woman wear what she wants. A burkini for all I care. There is another issue – swimming caps for black swimmers especially black female swimmers. Unless there is some form of propulsion hidden in the cap, swimmers should be allowed to wear what cap they want. My guess is that in both cases the real reasons for the rules is MONEY. And probably corruption. Viewing figures for women’s beach volleyball probably increase with their revealing outfits. This makes broadcasters offer more for the rights to show the sport. Likewise I suspect that the IOC has agreements with sports clothing manufacturers that limit the permitted swimming caps to their products.

  • I do not consider the young ladies’ bikini outfits to be sexual. No apology for my Male Gaze, in general. But it is obvious that their skimpy outfits are for speed and to keep sand out. The narrator forgets that it is in Moslem countries that “the Patriarchy” commands what the girls and the Women can wear. Not all girls and Women want male attention. But it is self-evident that plenty of girls and Women crave male attention. I support female athletes. A human body is not always sexual. Possibly it is that the young ladies want to show their flat bellies. They earned the flat tummy from their devotion to their sport. A boy or Man player needs long shorts in order to keep their genitals out of the way. Perhaps the shirts are necessary in order to keep sand out of the fellas’ chest fur. Perhaps the dudes can go shirtless if they wish, at some point. Thank you for your presentation. There is not sexual allurement because of the context of the young ladies’ situation where they play a sport in the sun. (I like big butts and I will not lie.) I hope that the female athletes are able to wear what they want.

  • This is old news. The real question is “What are trans athletes going to wear? And which bathrooms and locker rooms should they use?” Trans mania is catching on, and we are going to see A LOT more trans athletes. Because transitioning is such a beautiful act, their uniforms should exude their liberation and their comfort with their new bodies.
