Why Only Those In Financial Stability Should Practice Self-Care?

📹 What Are the Boundaries Between Selfishness and Self-Care?

At the London, Ontario stop of Dr Peterson’s Beyond Order Tour, an audience member asked him about the boundaries between …

What does financial self-care mean?

Financial self-care is a holistic approach to managing finances and fostering a healthy relationship with money. It involves making intentional financial choices that align with personal values and life goals, and recognizing the emotional impact of financial stress on mental health. A 2023 Bankrate survey revealed that 52 percent of U. S. adults believe money negatively impacts their mental health. Financial self-care is crucial for maintaining physical and mental health, as it allows individuals to feel better about their finances and make choices that support a rich life.

Why is self-care hard for some people?

International Self-Care Day is celebrated on July 24. Many people view self-care as a form of pampering themselves, but this mindset can make it difficult to consistently practice. The definition of self-care has changed over time, from performing low-risk medical treatments to focusing on prolonged pleasure that brings peace, happiness, and beauty. The image- and hashtag-driven culture suggests that self-care should be a priority for everyone, not just those who can afford expensive items. Consistent practice of self-care is essential for overall well-being and happiness.

Is saving money self-care?

Self-care, often overlooked, can be achieved by practicing financial self-care. A simple way to practice this is by scheduling a money date, which can be done periodically, such as once a month. If you share finances with a partner, involve them in the date. To make the date more enjoyable, wear comfortable clothes, pour your favorite beverage, and set the tone with an inspiring playlist. Make it a treat rather than a task, and make it a date you look forward to with yourself or your partner.

Is self-care a luxury?

Beth White, Sr. Director of Global People Partner at Flywire Masters Human Resources, shares a personal experience of a heart attack while cleaning up with her children. Her Apple Watch recorded 210 beats per minute, and she called her mom, who quickly rushed to help. The paramedics arrived at her home, where she was laying on the floor with a heart rate over 230, numb hands and arms, and incoherent speech. She asked for help, stating that she had kids.

She was placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance, where they hooked her up to an EKG machine and started fluids while driving her to the hospital. As they drove away, Beth’s children hugged her mom, and two of her neighbors also came over to help. This incident highlights the importance of self-care and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for both mother and child.

Why is self-care not selfish?

Self-care is not just a luxury, but a necessity that allows us to take moments of respite amidst the chaos. It’s about reclaiming our time and honoring our needs with the same tenderness and compassion as we give others. Self-love and small acts of kindness allow us to appreciate our contributions to others, such as checking in on friends and family. When it feels easy to deprioritize ourselves, remember that showing up for yourself is just as important as showing up for others. You deserve it.

What does financially self supporting mean?

The term “self-supporting” is defined in the Britannica Dictionary as “earning enough money to live without receiving help from others.” The term is defined as the ability to earn sufficient income to maintain one’s livelihood without relying on external assistance.

Why do people neglect self-care?

Self-neglecting behaviors can stem from various factors such as brain injury, dementia, obsessive compulsive disorder, physical illness, medication side effects, addictions, and traumatic life changes. The Care Act 2014 includes self-neglect in chapter 14, requiring safeguarding duties for adults with care and support needs who are at risk of self-neglect due to their care and support needs. The potential harm is often a chronic risk originating from deep-rooted psychological issues.

Adults often struggle to recognize the risks they are facing and may lack mental capacity to meet their care needs. Assessing their executive functioning, which involves setting goals and executing them, is a crucial component in determining their mental capacity for specific decisions. This helps in ensuring that adults are able to protect themselves from potential harm.

Should I treat myself or save money?

Budgeting is essential for financial well-being, but it’s also crucial for emotional and physical well-being. By redefining “treat yourself” in a budget-friendly way, you can still enjoy the experience without incurring more debt. Here are five ways to treat yourself without breaking the bank:

  1. Go secondhand shopping at thrift stores. Thrift stores offer discounted clothing, shoes, and accessories, providing retail therapy without the retail price. This is not only beneficial for your wallet but also for the environment. Additionally, most consignment and secondhand stores will buy items from you, so you might be able to sell your unwanted items for extra cash. This way, you can still enjoy retail therapy without breaking the bank.

Why do people ignore self-care?

Self-care often seems selfish and selfish, leading to feelings of guilt. People often believe that they deserve self-care and must earn it, but they struggle to see themselves as good enough to enjoy it. They also believe that self-care is time-consuming and that they are controlled by their circumstances, which can make them miserable and lead to poor coping.

To address these beliefs, one simple approach is to acknowledge and acknowledge the false beliefs that are preventing self-care. This can be done by noticing and acknowledging the negative commentary that is coming from your mind. This can help you to step back and let your mind continue to provide the negative commentary.

Regarding your mind as a talk radio station, you are not your noisy mind, and you are not the one that is playing in the background of your life. By recognizing and addressing these beliefs, you can put self-care higher on people’s priority lists and improve your overall well-being. This approach can even help even hardened healthcare providers who struggle with their health management.

  • Girl…it took my breath away when you said “My parent’s parents couldn’t do it. My parents couldn’t do it. Why do I think I am the exception that is going to change the way of what has been for generations?” I swear your story of failure is mine. 💔 But the success! It is mine as well! ❤️🙌🏾❤️ I love it and thank you for sharing!!!

  • With markets tumbling, inflation soaring, the Fed imposing large interest-rate hike, while treasury yields are rising rapidly, which means more red ink for portfolios this last quarter. How can I profit from the current volatile market, I’m still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my stock and bonds portfolio.

  • Hai! Im 22 and college drop out (couldnt work and go to school either) had to move back with my single mom, I have my own room but I still feel that discontent you were talking about. I know I’m capable of so much more and I’ve also been worn down having previously went on multiple business ventures to change my life around. I just quit my low paying toxic job because the weight of everything happening in my life was getting to be too much. I have plans for my future and what I want to do. I am so happy to hear we have similar stories and you give me hope that I’ll be living a wealthier life in two plus years. I have been making peace with the patience needed to see my journey through. I appreciate you sharing your story. Keep up the good work!

  • This is the first article I’ve seen from you and I just want to say THANK YOU. I’m originally from Arizona and moved across the country, leaving EVERYONE and EVERYTHING I knew behind. I left the toxic environment of my family and the mindset of the people around me. I moved to the east coast on June 1, 2019 and since have opened 2 businesses, written multiple screenplays, which are winning multiple international awards, produced and directed my first feature film with absolutely no money, and that was just picked up and is streaming currently on Tubi! It is doing extremely well and I have recently had 2 big newspapers publish stories on me and my film. In addition to having more in person interviews lined up, I am getting ready to film my first season of a sitcom I wrote and am being paid by other producers to write for them. My sisters refuse to clap for me. They will not speak to me or even acknowledge me. I had to give them up to find my happiness, and I would do it all over again if I had to. Still working on being able to be self sustainable like you, but you’re proof that it IS possible. Thank you!

  • I initially planned to retire at 62, working part-time while saving money. But high price increases have disrupted my plan. I wonder if those who experienced the 2008 financial crisis had it easier than my current situation. The declining stock market has lowered my income, and I’m worried that my reduced contributions will leave me with insufficient retirement savings.

  • This is phase I am right now, I cut every activity off, wakeup early, workout while listening to motivation, affirmation, and listening to people who are doing what I wanted to do. Within a month I had a podcast with 3 episodes, hosted a twitter space. I haven’t made money, I’m currently processing how to become business and financial oriented so I’m seeking knowledge and information. Cause I want to travel with my dad to France this year

  • I’m barely 4 mins into the article, and oh my goodness, how I can relate to this…. I’m in my mid 20’s, barely making enough money, can’t afford to live on my own, hate what I’m doing for a living, hate that I have to still rely on my parents’ financial stability when I feel like I should be the one giving back at this point. I feel stuck, and not so much depressed but definitely defeated. I’m really just trying to find ways to make things different for myself now. Hoping that by the end of this year I’ll have a clearer goal that I’m working towards with a step-by-step on how to get there 🤞🙏🏼

  • I’m in tears this has happened to me . I do so well and then boom hit rock bottom. ! I don’t know why cause I do not waste money at all I just live – very conservatively. I’m a single mom with two and have raised them alone . Private schools even and they never wanted for anything . But I just cannot break through 😪. Be financially free and be settled. I’m getting older and I’m tired of hustling . I am very young in body mind and spirit and super joyful positive and I am a leader. But gosh being an entrepreneur is one thing but i want to break through and make those millions !! Be free . Finally . And be able to focus on other things than chasing money and clients .

  • Clicked randomly on this article & I’m so happy I did. My very 1st time perusal you & this is exactly what I needed. Thank you for being so transparent with your story. I wanted to cry at points but I got my eyelashes done less than 24hrs ago 😂 It’s My 30th birthday tomorrow & you’ve inspired me to write a journal entry to say goodbye to the 29yr old me & thank my 20’s for the woman that was built in the process. I can’t wait to welcome this new season & go after everything I deserve unapologetically. Thank you for the gentle reminder that anything we put our minds to is possible. I can’t wait to go through you website, I’m sure there’s so much I could learn & grow from. Thank you again. Blessing x

  • I’ve been diligently working, saving, and investing toward financial independence and early retirement, but the economy since the pandemic has eaten up the majority of my 300k portfolio. I want to know: Do I keep contributing to my portfolio in these unstable markets, or do I look into alternative sectors?

  • Girl…. This article is exactly what I needed. I’ve been struggling for years trying to become “free” shifting my focus from every shiny object. And feeling helpless and hopeless at times feeling as if I am “stuck” in the restaurant service industry (even though money is good, there’s no freedom or passive income). I’m not stuck and if I change my mindset anything is possible. Thank you for sharing the lows that you were before reaching your goals. Sometimes I think successful people leave that out… idk why. Your story has given me that spark of hope I needed today. ❤

  • Thank you for posting! It’s hard not to let negative thoughts takeover at times of financial turmoil. However, knowing that no matter what you’re going through, there’s always that opportunity to change your life for the better and completely turn it around. I firmly believe it can be done with the right mindset.

  • I can tell you for a fact that being beoke is more expensive because it takes away your peace of mind. I worked as hard as I could and saved some money on the side. Being an avid reader, I came across a report by Northwestern Mutual on the same topic and found that if I choose to put a lump sum into solid investments, I am more likely to have a higher balance over time. Being a novice at the time, I saw that as a queue to get into the market. That was quite the turning point in my finance.

  • I just sined ip and was accepted for a second full time job to get out of debt. I’m here for the motivation and as soon as you talked about the childhood trauma I couldn’t contain my tears. I’m giving myself that consistent 6 months to 1 year, thank you for sharing. Here’s to starting over at 40. 😮❤

  • I am now on my 3rd month of unconditional focus and energy on building something new for myself, and a new me, it’s hard, I can’t see results yet but I’m keep going. Thank you for sharing your journey, I really hope I will lock back one day to this period and have the same “diary effect” you had reading your journal. 🙏

  • Great article, a number of the most eminent market experts have been expressing their views on the severity of the impending economic downturn and the extent to which equities might plummet. This is because the economy is heading towards a recession and inflation is persistently above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. As I’m aiming to create a portfolio worth no less than $850,000 before I turn 60, I would appreciate any advice on potential investments.

  • 6 mins in and I’m crying – I had to pause to comment. This is so refreshing to see like an actual real story of like growing up in not the best conditions and generational trauma. I’m in the same position you were in before it broke through for you. I really related to the idea of what’s the point in trying to try when maybe I just can’t. I just want to say thankyou for being so authentic in your explanation. I was even hesitant to watch this BC of the way these articles usually are. And the idea of ruining it for yourself. I think that’s a deeply ingrained, subconscious thing that can only be mended with awareness but it’s not something we can judge ourselves for because it’s basically hard wired into our psyche and dna to operate that way. I feel like every time I’m about to make a sale or do something great, I get this terrified gut feeling and want to ruin it because I’m scared of doing the thing. It’s so frustrating because I work so hard and want it to pay off…

  • I get so fired up every time I watch any of your articles. Congratulations girl and THANK YOU for sharing your story and shining your light on us! I can definitely relate to driving for Uber and Lyft because I was let go from a job and had to do the same thing + amazon flex haha. On top of 2 other jobs back in 2016. I have come a long way. I am now my own boss and own a virtual vocal coaching studio and have finally hit the 6 figure mark. I can’t wait to get like you to the multiple 6 figure mark and multiple, passive income streams. My true passion is making music and I am working on upping my YouTube presence so I can build an audience and community of dope people like you have. I’m a lot older than you but I am so inspired by you. To anyone perusal this article or in the comments, WE CAN DO IT! Don’t give up!!!

  • I can’t explain how your story brought me back to life, but it definitely did ! I feel like everything i’ve been working on for the past year is slowly but surely crumbling, and it scares the shit out of me. But this article just cheered me enough to keep going and I can’t tell you how much I needed this boost ! 😩

  • You’re literally speaking to my soul! The process of getting going and flowing when you’re doing something you’re passionate about but then stopping right when you’re about to hit a new level. This is such a pattern of mine and I see myself breaking past it every new moment I have the chance to choose differently. I’m also an NLP Practitioner so this is the work that has done wonders for me. Writing this as I’m getting ready to start my Youtube website! Thank you so much for sharing this <3

  • I teared up perusal this. I finally escaped my abusive family in 2021. 25 yo. All family cut off. Got into transitional housing with housemates. Learned from scratch how to cook, clean, trust others. Landlord decided to sell the house and threatened to evict us, but a housing agency took us in – now I’m living in subsidized housing on disability aid, working a job that doesn’t pay enough, perusal this article and hoping, hoping that I too can become financially free. I’ll try my best!

  • I haven’t even finished the article but needed to say THANK YOU for making this and putting this out there! I resonate so much with the feelings you spoke about at the very beginning and it’s instantly made me feel better, not only because it’s a reminder that we’re not alone, but also because there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel <3

  • Just came across your article for the first time this morning! Currently at work wondering how I’m going to change myself into something new and this is exactly what I needed. I know know in my heart of hearts that it’s possible for me live a fuller life.Thank you for sharing your story, so encouraging. Do you still do any type of coaching? <3
