Why Does God Permit Parents To Murder Their Offspring?

The author, a pacifist, shares her heartbreak when her daughter discovered Deuteronomy 20, which commands Israelites to kill all that breathes in Canaan. She believes that God is holy and in control, but questions why He allows evil and suffering in His children. She suggests that parents can take comfort from Scripture, knowing that God will punish those who hurt children.

God does punish us for the sins of our first parents, as seen in Rom. 5:12-14 and 1 Cor. 15:22. This is because of the covenantal role Adam played as a federal head in the prelapsarian covenant of works. The author questions why God would not stop a child from being abused or let a mother of three young children be diagnosed with terminal cancer or a drunken child.

The author also discusses the eternal punishment for those who kill, as mentioned in the Apocalypse of Peter and the Ecologae Propheticae of Clement of Alexandria. They argue that God allows children to die for the same reason as adults do, as death was Adam’s choice, not God’s.

The death of babies in the Bible is not because of God’s wrath, but because of God’s wrath in response to evil sins committed by people. While children are innocent, their death is not a bad thing from the perspective of God. God commands mankind not to sin, so we know God disapproves of sin.

Why was it right for God to slaughter women and children in the Old Testament? How can that ever be right?

How to respond to why does God let bad things happen?

During difficult times, it is important to remember that the Savior’s arms are open to receive you, even when you feel lost, alone, defeated, or broken. By relying on Jesus Christ’s infinite power, we can better understand Him, build our relationship with Him, and become more like Him. Life can be hard, but when we turn to the Savior, He is always there to rescue us. He knows exactly what you’re going through and has experienced it all before. Jesus Christ’s Atonement included suffering of all forms, mental, physical, and spiritual.

He understands and will not abandon you. When struggling to find the answer to “Why did God allow this to happen?”, ask Him to help you understand through sincere prayer. Although He may not provide the full answer yet, He can help you find comfort and gradual understanding.

What does the Bible say parents treating children badly?

In Ephesians 6:4, the text exhorts fathers to foster their children’s growth through the discipline and guidance of the Lord, rather than inciting their displeasure. Furthermore, the text encourages parents to refrain from actions that would exacerbate their children’s distress and instead prioritize their spiritual growth.

Is beating your kid a sin?

The New Testament does not contain any verses endorsing spanking, but many discourage hitting a child for any reason. Adrian Peterson, a Minnesota Vikings star, has been indicted on child abuse charges after hitting his four-year-old son with a “switch”, causing welts on his legs, scrotum, and buttocks. In response, Peterson invoked the Almighty, tweeting a picture from a religious devotional, Jesus Calling, with a quote about the perils of “habitual judging”. Eighty percent of born-again Christians believe that spanking is acceptable, which is 15% higher than the general population.

Why does God allow cruel things to happen?

God loves us and sent His son to suffer for us, comforting us through His Holy Spirit. He can redeem suffering when we allow Him to work in us and through us. Bad things were not God’s original intent, as He desired perfection and did not pursue evil. Jesus, who knew no sin, took on our sin to give us righteousness. Genesis 50:20 states that God uses even what man means for harm for good. In chapter 21 of Revelation, God promises to establish perfection and eradicate evil.

However, bad things and evil are part of our reality today. Epicurus should have concluded that if God were all-good and all-powerful, evil would be destroyed, but it has not yet been. Therefore, the conclusion should be that evil will be destroyed by our all-good, all-powerful God.

What does the Bible say about parents beating their children?

Proverbs 23:13-14 emphasizes discipline as loving guidance, correction, and teaching, not punishment. It teaches us to avoid sinful behavior, its dangers, and its natural consequences, and to pursue true fulfillment and satisfaction through a relationship with Christ. Discipline also helps prevent a selfish, lawless, and dysfunctional society by preventing a child from dying or saving their soul from Sheol. The focus should be on discipline as a means to avoid a selfish, lawless, and dysfunctional society.

What does the Bible say about toxic parent?

The Bible counsels parents to refrain from imposing undue stress on their children and to prioritize their guidance and instruction from the Lord. It warns against actions that might exacerbate or embitter children, as these can lead to discouragement.

Does God punish children because of their parents?

God doesn’t punish children for their parents’ sins in the spiritual sense, but sometimes they do suffer temporal consequences. Ahab, who sold himself to do evil, was chosen to be wiped out by God. The Bible explains this, and there are five applications for discipling men. The question of whether children will have to pay for their parents’ sins is a topic of discussion in the church, and many men are questioning whether they will have to pay for their own sins.

What age does God start judging you?

What age does God start judging you?

The Bible does not specify a specific age at which children become responsible to God for their actions. God is holy, gracious, and fair, and His grace extends to unborn babies and those with developmental disabilities. It is important for young children to receive Christ into their lives, as they need to hear the Gospel, understand that they are sinners and that their sin displeases God, and that God loves them. They should be told that Jesus sent to earth to take away their sin and that we should ask Him for forgiveness.

Spiritual maturity only develops as children grow older. A preschool child may know Jesus as their best friend, while a few years later, they may understand more about following Jesus and formally commit their life to Christ. As a teenager, they may recommit their life to the Lord as the Spirit convicts them of their rebellious attitude. These stages of growth in faith and understanding are stages of growth in faith and understanding, and we should encourage children to respond to the Lord’s call whenever the Spirit touches their hearts.

What does the Bible say about parents making their children angry?

In Ephesians 6:4, Calvin advises fathers to avoid provoking their children to anger, instead focusing on the discipline and instruction of the Lord. The term “provoke” refers to pushing children’s buttons and getting under their skin, and it is important not to “irritate their children by unreasonable severity”. In Colossians 3, it is also advised not to provoke children, as it may discourage them. Therefore, it is crucial for parents to avoid causing unnecessary stress and frustration in their children.

Is it a sin to punish your child?

The New Testament contains two passages discussing discipline with children. In Ephesians chapter 6, verse 4, it is emphasized that parents should not provoke their children to anger, but rather bring them up under the discipline and instruction of the Lord. This involves teaching them to love, trust, and obey Jesus’ commands without provoking them. Discipline should not be used to frustrate or discourage children, but to correct them so they can see God’s goodness and learn to be a disciple of Jesus.

In Colossians chapter 3, verse 21, it is emphasized that discipline should not discourage children, but rather to show them why their behavior is wrong and encourage them to love the things of God. The Bible is not primarily an instruction manual for disciplining children, but rather the overarching story of God’s plan of redemption for his people. Therefore, it is crucial to look for overarching principles from this story and apply them to disciplining children.

The text posits that if a child is welcomed in the name of the Lord, they are welcomed. Nevertheless, in the event of the child committing a transgression, the prescribed punishment is to be hanged with a large millstone and drowned in the sea.

  • More important question is why we look at death the way we do. We are so obsessed with our mortality that the concept of death which was, is and will always be inevitable is treated almost like a taboo. Death is sad of course but really for those left behind. Anyone who is right with God through Christ should not focus on how they leave this evil world but rejoice in their imminent eternal life with God.

  • For all those who are saying that this is sick or distributing, I’m assuming this is coming from an atheist view. If atheism is true everything is just a cosmic accident and we are only bodies of molecules moving through space then why are you complaining about anything being good or evil? Cutting an apple in half and cutting a human being in half from the atheist perspective is no different, just different types of molecules moving around in different ways, how can you say that any one thing is good and another evil? You are borrowing from the Christian worldview in order to try to disprove it, stay consistent and argue from your own worldview if you think it’s true.

  • A truly difficult subject to talk on, especially in these days where people value this life above all else. When this world is your paradise, it hurts to think about someone taking you away from it. From the Christian’s perspective, though, is that this is not Heaven, and that death is the doorway to our Paradise. Even so, you are right, John. We are owed nothing. We are not god, and we are not twisting God’s arm to keep us alive. He is sovereign, and will do all that He wills.

  • Remember in the old testament times was a mich more serious time. If God killed he was only being fair. None of us knows if he allowed those that were killed to be reborn or they were sent straight to heaven. What we as humans do is to expect God to follow our laws or our perspectives of what a good god should do and when he doesn’t we call him unfair, unjust or made up God.

  • I love how straight forward his answer was.. : ) Amen. He has the right as God.. God is not some creature that has nothing to do with the creating and sustaining of creatures. God created and sustains.. God killing is not at all the same as a creature killing… One of the main problems I can sense from comments from pagans is, while they sin every day and love sinning and justify it with whatever reasoning they can find, when it comes to God doing what doesn’t accord with what they think is right, they “condemn” it period. They so think they are God. Why don’t they come up with their own universe and rule it? I wonder what it will be like.. My sin is always ok and right and i will justify it no matter what using whatever reasoning, while what I perceive with my sinful eyes (that looks at and enjoys sinful things everyday) to be “wrong” about God, I will “condemn”.. They so prove the Bible to be true about their condition…

  • If the police attempt to arrest a drug dealer, and he opens fire using a massive arsenal, the police will fire back. If some children in the dwelling are tragically killed by police bullets, who bears the responsibility? It is, without question, the drug dealer. If neighboring tribes in Canaan, while adhering to a long tradition of human sacrifice, are decimated by Israel at God’s command, who bears the responsibility? The answer should be self-evident.

  • This is one of the primary reasons I’m no longer Christians. I apply certain biblical principles and knowledge (Ye are God’s Children of the Most High and The Kingdom of God is within) but I was reading about how The Bible God instructed his so-called chosen people to take slaves, then kill men, women, children and babies and take their land (just like the Slavemasters and evil conquerors who treated my ancestors with sheer brutality and the Indigenous ancestors who were damn near wiped out. The God of the Bible was created to justify their evil culture based deeds. The Bible who created Christianity and the Socalled chosen people rule the World Bank, the Entertainment industry, the Media and the Church. The Jews and the Vatican have the power but the descendants of an enslaved people, human trafficking victims have no power. Jesus does nothing for me or my people. It kept us safe but docile, fearful, feeling inferior and weak. I’ve graduated from Religion to Spirituality. Prayer is seeking power outside of yourself Meditation is cultivating the power within. I believe in a God but not one who is blood thirsty, insecure, narcissistic, and brutal. A God who endorses child murder, abortion, slavery, rape, genocide, partiality, bias, treating women like they’re beneath men. There’s not a single verse condemning slavery but it double downs. In the New Testament Paul in Ephesians 6:5 and Colossians 3:22 – call on slaves to be obedient to their masters. “Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

  • This is a repulsive way of looking at things. This very God supposedly told us it’s not okay to do the things he himself is attributed to have done. If i find his actions repulsive and would never do that with his power, then I am morally superior to this God, and I deserve his power more than he does. This idea of right makes right is repugnant to me. This is why I’m glad I’m not religious and do not worship such a being or defend its actions. That my friends is the true evil, defending or excusing the actions of a monster. Believe what you want, but please understand what you are believing. Then decide if you still should defend it, let alone beleive it. Even if this God is real, he doesn’t deserve my respect or worship. I don’t worship monsters. I respect moral people who contribute to the common good of this world. If that condemns me to this supposed hell, then so be it. Better than that adoration of a deity that is the very definition of a psychopath.

  • The truth is, there is no god. If there is, there shouldn’t be. He is definitely a deity of suffering, misery and agony. He let his own son die, supposedly. If he doesn’t help his own son, why would he help anyone? I don’t believe any gods exists. It’s the only logical answer at this point. How many billions of ppl prayed for children not to go hungry, and it still goes on. I mean, are these ppl not praying hard enough or what??? Let’s get real, there is zero god.

  • I’m a Christian already this title is not looking good for me God never murders in the entirety of the Bible because murder is to kill with malicious intent the Commandment is not Thou shalt not kill but, Thou shalt not murder is it that some people translated a little bit weirdly or think that kill and murder are synonymous, also in my opinion from what the scripture say most of the time God doesn’t will people to die they just die even back in Genesis God and will Adam and Eve to die they just died, basically I think that everything will die unless God wills it not to instead of saying God takes Every Soul, it’s Christians like this, that make Christians look bad this guy’s literally trying to justify killing, in the worst way.

  • Actually, there is a better answer than that. First, we have to take a look into who those people were that God ordered to be destroyed. God put into action the plan of salvation immediately after Adam and Eve fell. After the flood and the peoples dispersed, and according to this plan, God called Abraham and made a covenant with him. God chose Abraham because all those around him were idolaters and he worshipped the true God. He made a covenant with Abraham telling him that He would make him a great nation and that all the families on earth would be blessed in him (Abraham). From him, were the children of Israel born. As part of this plan of salvation, a Savior would be born as a descendant of Abraham; and this Savior who would die instead of the sinner; this was to be Jesus Christ. The reason all families on earth would be blessed in Abraham is that Jesus would come from Abraham’s bloodline. Knowing this, the enemy, tried to thwart the plan of salvation by preventing Jesus from ever existing in the flesh. The reason why God gave the children of Israel the health laws, for example, was so that the Savior to be born would have the best of genetics to withstand the tremendous mission He had to accomplish. The pagans had abhorrent practices through which their DNA had become so corrupted that there was no chance for them to ever turn to God; they were already lost. Should the children of Israel get their genetics mixed with the degraded heathen people by intermarrying them, the Savior would have never been born and me and you, and the whole world would have been lost forever.

  • The biblical answer to why Joshua was commanded to do this has to do with Genesis 6:1-4. Joshua’s mission was to eradicate the Anakim, who were descendants of the Nephilim, the unholy offspring of the rebellious members of God’s divine council. Read Joshua 11. The summation and point of the conquest was that there were no more Anakim (giants) in the hill country. God, through Joshua, ended the gross wickedness of the giant clans. This is really a question for the late Michael Heiser and not John Piper.

  • The problem is that we don’t understand Gods holiness and purity as opposed to the absolute wickedness of man. It’s like asking a fish if he knows he’s in water. Humans are wicked. Even from birth. If a baby was ten foot tall and got angry with you he would kill you without a second thought. Also when God killed women and children in the Old Testament he was stopping literal generations of wickedness from happening.

  • What makes it okay for men and women to abort their Children? It is best for all human beings to realize and understand God is no Respecter of Persons. A lot of people think God is their best friend. People might want to rethink that and consider Jesus is your Savior, not God. A human cannot even go into the presence of God without Jesus’ Salvation. The real truth is, God is not in the business of taking Human’s lives, nor does He want Human beings to perish! Have you read John 14:6? Jesus says “l am the truth the life and the way, no man can come to the Father but through Me!”. My advice to you is to ask Jesus to come into your heart and Save you…and after open your eyes so you will see the Truth, live the Life and come to know the Way of the Lord your God.
