Why Can’T I Keep Personalized Clothes On My Horse?

A known glitch in Red Dead 2 involves the issue of not deleting a custom outfit from your horse’s inventory. To prevent this glitch, do not delete any outfit you no longer want from your horse and try not to save more than three outfits. Some missions auto-enable outfits, so remove any outfit you no longer want from your horse and delete it.

The menu item is divided into outfits that you own, adapted outfits, and outfits on the horse. You save outfits with (tab) and place them with (space) on the horse. One of the outfit slots on the upgraded saddlebag will always be superseded by a “Custom outfit” that you didn’t create. This occurs when you put on an outfit and go outside, it becomes a “Custom Outfit”. If there’s no slot for it, it replaces one.

You can have 5 outfits on the horse (with the upgraded Saddle Bags), but any combination of Crafted/Purchased/Custom – but only 5. If your Custom Outfit doesn’t work, try deleting all your custom outfits, removing all outfits from the “store on horse” section, changing into a preset like the Summer Gunslinger, and creating a new save file.

Occasionally, custom outfits will disappear from your horse, forcing you to go back to camp to resave the outfit. To change outfits from your horse inventory and store outfits on the horse, follow these steps:

1. Go to your wardrobe, put on the clothes you want on the horse and save them as a custom outfit. Then, go to the outfit screen and click the button to store it.

2. Check if you are wearing a hat picked up from an NPC. If it can’t be stored, you won’t be able to save the outfit.

3. Go to “outfit sets” at the top of the list and tab over “custom outfits”. Press Square (or Xbox equivalent) to store/save. Some players have reported that the issue resolves after additional playtime and can be worse by deleting all of their custom outfits.
